    Again, one injured as Soldiers, Police clash

    There was pandemonium on Saturday, in Osun state when Soldiers and Police operatives clashed in Ajegunle spare parts Market in Osogbo the Osun state capital after a heated argument ensued.

    It was gathered that one of the policemen got injured in the fracas.

    The cause of the disagreement and the identities of the police and soldiers involved could not be immediately ascertained.

    According to an eyewitness account, a policeman was severely beaten up by some soldiers to the surprise of many traders and onlookers present at the scene.

    “But the situation became tense when some police operatives from Dugbe Police Division, located a few meters away from Ajegunle spare parts market arrived at the scene and engaged the soldiers in an argument.

    “The matter soon degenerated and there was an exchange of gunshots for some minutes. The incident occurred some minutes past 5 pm on Saturday. We all fled the scene to escape being shot,” an eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said.

    Meanwhile, the Osun State police command has confirmed the incident but claims that the matter is being resolved by the management of the two security outfits.

    Police arrest couple for stealing new born baby in Osun state

    A couple ,Ganiyat Abass and Olatunbosun were paraded by the Osun state police command for allegedly stealing a six-day -old baby from his mentally -ill mother at Agbele area in Iwo, Osun state.

    Both suspects have pleaded not guilty and denied the theft allegation.

    The Iwo Division of the Nigeria Police had alleged that she was arrested after an alarm was raised of a missing child and the child was found stuffed in a shopping bag.

    Fielding questions from pressmen, Ganiyat said she was a friend to Jemilat, the mentally challenged mother of the child and had given her money to buy bean cake.

    She claimed to have fed and clothed Jemilat all through her pregnancy period.

    She also said she wanted to see her husband who had moved to his new house, so she hurriedly carried the infant in her hands before she was apprehended and an alarm was raised.

    However, Ganiyat’s husband Olatunbosun gave a different account of the story, he said that his wife was always claiming to be pregnant and collecting money from him to do scan. He claimed ignorance of the child theft saying he knows nothing about it.

    He stated that he was not aware of any plans by her to steal any baby.

    Investigation still ongoing by Osun state police command to unravel the mystery behind the child theft.
