Surajudeen said when public holidays came close to the weekend, many workers would rather extend the break to the weekend and resume work on Monday.

“A lot of people do not find it easy travelling back on the second day of the holiday, especially when the holiday is very close to the weekend.

“Most workers that travelled for the celebration would probably be coming back tommorow or Sunday, from their villages or states where they went to celebrate the Sallah with their family and loved ones,” he said

He said majority of those that would be at work on Friday would be those that did not travel or those whose home towns is within Osun.

  • Osun govt begins staff audit

    Osun govt begins staff audit

Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has commenced staff audit across the public service with a plan to fill existing vacancies within the education, health and other sub-sectors in the state.

This is contained in a statement by Malam Olawale Rasheed, the Spokesperson for the governor, on Saturday in Osogbo.

The statement said the exercise started with the biometric capture of the governor, his deputy and the Speaker of the House of Assembly at the governor’s office on Friday.

It said that data capturing was preceded by a close door meeting with the state labour leaders, where processes and procedures were concluded to ensure the protection and fulfilment of the interest of all stakeholders.

The statement said that the governor assured that the exercise was not a witch-hunt, but to strengthen the capacity of the state government to satisfy the needs of the workers, members of the public and the state leadership.

“I want to assure workers and other stakeholders that the staff audit is not a witch-hunt.

“Our administration has workers’ welfare as number one on our governance agenda. So, we will not take any action that will negatively affect formal and informal workers.

“The audit is to achieve several goals namely; cleaning up the payroll system, validating the actual number of state workforce and establishing areas of vacancies across various sectors of the public service.

“We need to authenticate the data of our workforce. We also need to confirm existing vacancies within the public service.

“I have earlier issued a directive for the collation of vacancies for teachers and health workers. The compilation is almost completed. The outcome will then provide what we call data driven management of our public service.

“We are ascertaining the number of teachers we need in our schools. Our team is checking out the number of science, English, Mathematics, Social Science and other teachers as well as which schools need what type of teachers.

“I assure the public that we are aware of the existing vacancies in our schools and health facilities.

“The audit report will provide a strong foundation for the recruitment of new teachers and health workers which our administration will embark upon after the ongoing exercise,” the governor said.

  • Osun Government accuses Senator Bashiru of instigating violence in the state

Osun Government accuses Senator Bashiru of instigating violence in the state

The governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke has accused former Senator Ajibola Basiru of planning to cause violence in the state.

Senator Basiru represented Osun Central Senatorial District at the 9th Senate and was also the Senate spokesperson.

In a statement signed by Olawale Rasheed for the Osun government, Governor Adeleke declared Basiru a direct threat to the peace of the state.

The statement also accused the former Senator of importing unauthorised policemen into the state to create confusion and mayhem to disturb the state’s peace.

Rasheed in the statement said the ex-lawmaker had submitted names of top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and that of the state government to the police so as to cause instability and tension in Osun.

“We urgently bring to the attention of the Inspector General of Police, the State Commissioner of Police and the general public that former Senator Ajibola Bashiru has imported some unauthorized policemen into Osun State to create confusion, mayhem and destabilise the peace and stability of the state.

“The former Senator is reported to have submitted a list of top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party and Osun State government for arrest on trumped up charges. We reliably gathered that the Osogbo-born politician is personally coordinating the team in gross violation of extant laws and practice of law enforcement.

“We call on the Inspector General of Police to order the immediate withdrawal of such policemen as their invitation under the control of a politician constitutes a grave threat to the peace and stability of Osun state. We urge the Commissioner of Police to urgently look into the matter before a breach of peace across the state.

“We use this medium to inform Osun people that the said Senator is today a direct threat to the peace of the state. At a time when the state is witnessing a return to good governance, it is reprehensible for any stakeholder to decide to create mayhem and instability.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke hereby restates his resolve to tackle this matter headlong and ensure that no individual no matter how highly placed is allowed to plunge the state into conflict.”

Reacting swiftly, Senator Basiru in a personally signed statement expressed disbelief that the statement emanated from the state government.

Noting that illiteracy is a disease, Basiru maintained that the accusations by the state government were ridiculous.

Basiru also revealed that he has instructed his lawyers to consider possible legal action against the Governor’s spokesperson for defamation of character.

“That I sympathize with Osun people for allowing comedians to get close to the government house in Osogbo. They are obviously jittery already that our party, the APC, will kick out their incompetent government in 2026.

“Obviously, illiteracy is a disease! The accusations by the governor are ridiculous, baseless and could only come from such unserious quarters.

“If indeed, Jackson Adeleke is concerned with the peace of the state, he should immediately hand over the Police declared criminals that he is harbouring at the Country home in Ede.

“If the intention of Adeleke and his minions is to harass or intimidate me, they are embarking of a failed venture.”

  • Govt vows to seal fuel stations hoarding products

Govt vows to seal fuel stations hoarding products

Osun State Government led by Governor Ademola Adeleke has vowed to seal off filling stations hoarding petrol.

The state government threatened that: “Any fuel station found guilty of hoarding fuel to create artificial scarcity shall be sealed off and operators prosecuted for crime of economic sabotage,” the governor said in a statement on Tuesday by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed.

The fresh fuel scarcity in the country followed the inaugural pronouncement by Nigeria’s new President, Bola Tinubu who said on Monday that the era of subsidy payment on fuel has ended.

“Fuel subsidy is gone,” Tinubu declared in his inaugural speech at the Eagle Square on May 29 after he was sworn in as Nigeria’s 16th President.

The former Lagos State governor said the 2023 Budget made no provision for fuel subsidy and more so, subsidy payment is no longer justifiable.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has since backed Tinubu on the removal of fuel subsidy.

Fuel queues have since resurfaced across the country since the presidential pronouncement as Nigerians forage for the premium product.

In its warning to marketers, the Osun State Government said the deliberate hoarding of PMS by the fuel dealers within the state as a result of Tinubu’s statement has caused unnecessary hardship on the people of the state.

“This deliberate action is not only inhumane but unpatriotic and will not be allowed by the government. To this end, the Special Monitoring Team on fuel scarcity set up by His Excellency, Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke headed by the Chief of Staff, Hon Kazeem Akinleye is still effective and shall not condone any form of economic sabotage.

“As from today, 30th May 2023, the Committee shall begin special monitoring of all the filling stations across the state in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders,” the statement partly read.
