Why we lost Osun election to PDP – APC chair, Adamu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu has given the reason why his party lost to the opposition party, PDP at the just-concluded Osun governorship election.

Adamu in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Tuesday said the APC will now return to the drawing board “and change our tactics”.

“We lost the race not because we are incapable but because of the crisis within. We had a massive gathering of supporters a few days before the election in Osogbo. No one could ever anticipate that we would lose the election.

Osun defeat doesn’t in any way mean that we will lose at the general election. We only lost one state out of the 22 we have; you see, we are still strong.

We will sit and check ourselves. We must ask ourselves what is right and wrong and what needs to be corrected.”

“This has shown that we have a big task ahead. We must see what we can do and change our tactics.

  • Osun 2022: Real reason Adeleke defeated Oyetola revealed

Osun 2022: Real reason Adeleke defeated Oyetola revealed

The real reason incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of APC lost to Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP at the just concluded Osun guber polls has emerged.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports the real reason behind why Oyetola failed to clinch a second term to Osun government house has been largely attributed to his alleged ‘ self-aggrandizement policy’ while in office.

Sources privy to this development who spoke to TNG on the condition of anonymity claimed that the outgoing governor was essentially too self centered.

One of the sources in the State said”the man had an excuse for his collosal failure each he is asked why he’s is not performing.

“One of such occasions when he was asked what was affecting his performance considering the fact that he manageably won the 2018 guber election, he laid the blame on the doorsteps of COVID-19.

“But the gospel truth is that the former Governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola was sidelined from day one and the man too snubbed Oyetola and waited to prove a point that after running Osun for eight years he knew where the hidden votes were kept.

Another source gave credence to this fact as he spoke in a similar vein describing the incumbent Governor as a “very selfish man who only cared for himself and his godfather brother from Lagos.

“He locked up the vaults and thought the 2018 inconclusive experience will resurface in 2022 but Osun people are wiser now and you can see the results now.

“The 2018 election was a daylight robbery and Nigerians knew Senator Adeleke was robbed and our Osun people rejected money for votes which they largely relied on.

“Don’t also rule out the new Electoral Act that made rigging virtually impossible because this election could have been properly rigged.

“The Electoral Act, the heavy mobilisation of CSOs, security operatives voter education of INEC killed anything rigging and ballot box snatching.

Giving credence to adequate preparation and mobilisation, Chairman of the Situation Room, Prof Adele Junaidu also praised INEC as 35percent of the registrants participated unlike Ekiti that only 15percentet of PVC bearers participated.

“With this development ballot boxing and massive rigging have been eliminated from the electoral process through the 2022 Electoral Act

The police in Osun have warned cultists and hoodlums planning to celebrate the July 7, (7/7) Day to desist from such plans, warning that unlawful gatherings or assembly will not be tolerated.

Newsmen reports that 7/7 is a day set aside by some cult groups to celebrate what they call ‘cultism day’, when they initiate new members and engage in other violent activities usually at night.

The warning is contained in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, on Tuesday.

“The intelligence that availed the police command revealed that cultists are planning to mark the 7/7 to celebrate cultism.

“In view of this, the Commissioner of Police, Julius Okoro, warned cultists and other unscrupulous elements in the state to stop the plan or any of such action(s) forthwith.

“Consequently, the command, in collaboration with other security agents and Civilian JTF, will not tolerate any unlawful gathering or assembly that will endanger the peaceful atmosphere of the state.

“Any unlawful assembly will not be tolerated, especially during this electioneering period as the plan to mark 7/7 may lead to bloodletting and destruction of properties, ” she said.

Opalola said the CP has given marching orders to the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical units to be at alert and nip in the bud any act capable of truncating the peace of the state.

She said the CP advised parents and guardians to caution their wards to be law-abiding, and desist from any act or unlawful gathering/ assembly before, during and beyond the said date.

“The state Police Command will arrest and prosecute defaulters.

“Also, hoteliers, recreation, event centres and landlords/landladies are by this announcement warned not to allow their facilities to be used for any cult-related activities/meetings, as owners of such facilities are liable for prosecution.

“Citizens are urged to be security conscious, vigilant, co-operate and collaborate with the security agents by giving useful, credible and timely information and report any suspicious movement or activities,’ she said.

  • Stop malicious campaign against Buratai, traditional ruler warns critics

A traditional ruler in Osun, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Makama, has warned against the campaign of calumny against the former Army Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.

Oba Makama, while addressing a news conference on Tuesday in his palace in Kuta town, said that a smear campaign against Buratai, that huge cash and other luxury items were recovered from his Abuja residence by ICPC, was malicious.

The traditional ruler said though the ICPC official statement had confirmed that Buratai had no link with the property, it was necessary to correct the misinformation in the public domain.

” After several unsuccessful attempts to get him removed, attempts to get him removed before his time, they have now begun to run a smear campaign against him.

They are doing this “by ascribing the ownership of a house in Wuse, Abuja, where operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices raided and recovered huge cash and other luxury items to him”.

” The misinforming reports, I stand to confirm, are purely malicious and another fabricated tale published to tarnish Buratai’s brilliant image.

” But this has failed because the ICPC’s official public statement has confirmed that Buratai has no link with the said property or the cash and other items found in the building,” he said.

The traditional ruler said that credible information had it that several faceless NGOs had been paid to embark on a campaign of calumny and destruction against Buratai.

” I make bold to say that Ambassador Buratai remains a man of immense honour.

Therefore, he needs the support of all well-meaning Nigerians to succeed in his current assignment, notwithstanding the avoidable distractions.

” Ambassador Buratai has and still serving Nigeria without any blemish despite the unwarranted attacks, having chosen to serve without bias, which is fetching him a recommendation,” he said.

Oba Makama, however, called on Nigerians to support Buratai in his new assignment as an Ambassador, rather than joining in the ‘pull him down’ antics against his honour and dignity.

  • Osun not for sale to highest bidder – Oyetola campaign council to Adeleke

Osun not for sale to highest bidder – Oyetola campaign council to Adeleke

The Gov. Gboyega Oyetola Campaign Council has said that Osun is not for sale to the highest bidder in the July 16 governorship election.

Reacting to comments purportedly made at the weekend by Sen. Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, the group described the statement as absurd and unacceptable.

A statement by the Director-General of the campaign council, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru, on Monday in Osogbo, said that the boast by Adeleke to have enough money – both local and in foreign currencies – to execute his political ambition was embarrassing.

It would be recalled that Adeleke had at the weekend during the party’s Osun Central Campaign, said “Osun people, you are the ones to decide.

“If it is about money, I have enough. I came with plenty money.

“And it is not only naira; I came with dollars, pounds and Euro. This time around in Osun, it is fire for fire”.

Bashiru said that on daily basis, the PDP candidate was proving to the electorate that he had nothing to offer.

“Osun people are not gullible. We have left them in no doubt of the quality of our party, the APC and our administration are made of, including the capacity of our candidate to deliver in the past three and half years.

“We have proved through our inclusive governance strategy that our people are our strength and that we do not take them for granted and we will never take them for granted.

“This explains why in spite of the way the 2018 election went, our administration began infrastructure intervention from Ede, the hometown of the PDP candidate.

“Osun people are enlightened, they Know that the state and its citizens are not up for sale to the highest bidder.

“Therefore, the PDP candidate should keep his money. Or better still, he could deploy those resources to establish industries to provide jobs for the people.

” This way, he will also be supporting the present administration’s noticeable efforts in the last three and half years to industrialise the state and change its narrative as a civil service state, to one bubbling with economic activities.

“It is on record that the Oyetola-led administration has since inception taken concrete steps to open up the state for investments, and has been able to attract a number of investments into Osun, contributing to the economic growth of the state.

“We assure the PDP candidate that like the administration did to other players in the private sector, we will provide a level playing ground for his business to thrive and ensure Osun and its people derive maximum benefit from the investment”, he said.

Bashiru also cautioned Adeleke against overheating the polity with his incendiary comments and violent tendencies, wondering what he meant by saying ‘its fire for fire this time around’.

“As a responsible party, we urge Senator Adeleke and his party to embrace peaceful conduct and decorum in their political engagements and electioneering.

“We must avoid any comment or action that can jeopardise the peace and stability of our state,” he said.

    Osun 2022 Election: Why I’ll be re-elected – Oyetola

Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun says keeping to promises he made to the people of the state in the last three and half years of his administration with limited resources, will give him victory in the July 16 governorship election in the state.

The governor said this at an engagement programme organised by the State’s Civic Engagement Centre with the Osun Chapter of the Association of Master Bakers on Sunday in Osogbo.

Oyetola, who was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said the masses could testify to his achievements in all areas, which would make them support his re-election.

The governor, who noted that he would continue to focus on quality service delivery to the people, said the will of God would prevail through the popular support of the people.

Oyetola said that with the available meager resources accrued to the state, he had turned the economy of the state around positively for the benefit of those who elected him.

The governor, who described the masses as the pillar of his administration since its inception, said that he would continue to make sacrifices that would make life more comfortable for them.

Oyetola also said that he remained the candidate to beat in the election, adding that Osun belonged to the progressives, and nothing could change the status quo.

“My re-election is God’s project because the masses are behind me, and they will return me to office in the next election.

“I kept the promises I made with the good people of the state within the limited resources, and I know that they will keep faith with me on the election day.

“I will not in any way relax in my second term in office, but rather continue to build on the solid foundation we have laid,” he said.

Oyetola appealed to members of the association, who were yet to pick their Permanent Voter Cards at the Independent National Electoral Commission office to do so and use the same to support his re-election.

He said he would continue to provide the enabling environment for the growth and expansion of their businesses.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the association, Mr Bakare Ganiyu, commended the governor for various developmental projects in the state.

Ganiyu promised that members of the association would support the re-election bid of the governor for his administration to continue with the good works.
