Frontline governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke has restated his commitment to rescue Osun from bad governance despite campaign of calumny from certain quarters.

Adeleke made the disclosure in response to the report of the PDP Appeal Screening Panel which again cleared him to contest the March 7th governorship primaries.

In a statement released to newsmen by the Media & Strategy arm of Adeleke’s Campaign Organisation, the former senator was said to have expressed appreciation to the committee and the national leadership of the party for standing by truth and justice.

The statement partly reads: “My ambition to govern Osun state is people-driven. We are not afraid to face the delegates at the primary and the people of Osun state at the general election. I urge my colleagues to take the contest like a sporting race.

“As for me, I repeat: we are not enemies; we want to serve; our ambition should not be a do or die affair. Let the delegates decide the candidate ; let the voters elect the governor”, Senator Adeleke said.

“We must be mindful of our actions as we belong to the same party and family. We must be getting set for a united front to defeat our common enemy (All Progressives Congress”, the guber aspirant advised.” He said.

Oyetola urges Osun voters to safeguard PVC ahead of guber election

Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun has urged the electorate in the state to safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the July 16 gubernatorial election in the state.

The governor made the remarks on Thursday during what was described as a “strategic tour” of Ila Federal Constituency Area of the state.

Oyetola also urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to keep their membership registration slips safe ahead of the party’s primary.

He appealed to them not to allow any individual to deceive them with ”fake loan” to steal still their PVCs from them.

“I implore you to keep the party’s registration slip issued during the accreditation exercise and your voter’s card safe.

“With the look of things, it seems that the party will opt for direct primary, if it is so, the membership slip will be used for the exercise.

“Some people want to collect your PVC and membership slip with the pretence to give you a loan.

“They are all liars, the loan that they did not give you two years ago, they are lying to give you months to the election.

“They are promising you food now, they are liars. We started our food support programme last year April and we did not stop it.

“We are not doing this because we want to get votes from you, but it is because of our genuine love for the people.

“Let us be prepared for the primary election of our party and the gubernatorial election,” he said.

In his remarks, the Orangun of Ila, Oba Abdul Oyedotun, said the achievements of the governor in the development of the state were enough testimonies for him to be reelected.

Oyedotun, who noted that the governor would triumph in the election, said the electorate were behind him.

“Your achievements speak for themselves and we are proud of what you have done.

“Your second term ambition will be successful and whoever tries to stand on your way, will not witness your success story.

“ Don’t despair, our ancestors were faced with travails and they emerged triumphant, you shall overcome yours too.

“Your detractors will witness your success and you will triumph over them,” the Oba said.

Aregbesola can’t break our Camp in Osun, APC Chairman

Mr Gboyega Famodun, Chairman-elect of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, says the party is too strong for the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, to break.

Reacting to a statement credited to Aregbesola that the party was deeply factionalised in the state, Famodun described the development as unfortunate.

According to him, it is unfortunate that the minister, who was the immediate-past governor of the state, could champion subversive activities against the political party that made him.

It would be recalled that Aregbesola on Friday, during the inauguration of the Digital Nigeria Centre in Ilesa, said that APC in Osun was deeply divided, saying that he belong to the other faction, “The Osun Progressives (TOP).

Aregbesola had said: “For those who don’t know, APC is divided into two here (Osun).

“We have APC, Rauf Aregbesola’s faction, which is chaired by Hon Razaq Salinsile and the other. When it’s time, we will settle it.

“The caucus that birthed our own faction of APC is called TOP.

“Those wondering whether I belong to TOP or not should open their ears widely. I am TOP, body and soul and the Chairman of TOP is Adelowo Adebiyi.”

In a swift reaction, Famodun said in a statement on Saturday in Osogbo that Aregbesola should forget the thought and notion of being “the Alpha and Omega of Osun State Progressive politics”.

“It is unfortunate that Aregbesola, who was the immediate-past Governor of the state could champion subversive activities against APC in Osun.

“This is political party that transformed his life from that of obscurity to limelight, through prestigious offices, as a Commissioner in Lagos State, two terms Governor of Osun and a serving minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“His recent statement in Ilesa reduces his status as a former governor and as a serving minister of a party he claimed to belong.

“Osun APC is too strong for Aregbesola to break.

“He should be told that there is no amount of intrigues by him that is capable of bungling the second term ambition of Gov. Oyetola,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed July 16 for the governrship election in the state.

Police arrest another hotelier in Osun

The police in Osun have arrested the General Manager of Western Sun Hotels, Ede, Mr Samuel Owolawi, over alleged attempted land grabbing, assault and malicious damage to property.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that Owolawi was taken into custody in Ede on Saturday after he allegedly led hoodlums and armed soldiers to demolish an ongoing building construction and chased away workers on a site behind the hotel.

The builder on site, Mutiu Tijani, said in a statement to the police that Owolawi’s gang also demolished the building on the orders of Kamal Ishola Yusuf, a serving Major General in Nigerian Army and Chairman of Western Sun Hotels.

According to him, the gang also beat up the workers and threatened the men never to return to the site, claiming that the General recently bought over the property from Ede North Local Government.

“While bricklayers were working on site, to my surprise, General Manager of Western Sun Hotels, Samuel Owolawi, asked the workers to leave the site on the order of Gen. Yusuf.

“In fact, they demolished all works we have done and wasted the materials – bricks, sand, cement, we had to run for our dear lives,” the builder said in his statement at Oke Iresi Police Division, Ede.

NAN learnt that the police have also invited the incumbent chairman of Ede North local Government, Mr Adeyemi Elliot, for questioning to explain his role in “assisting” the General in the land scandal.

When contacted about the incident, Osun Police Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola confirmed that a report of malicious damage was reported at Police Division Ede.

Opalola said the matter was a land ownership tussle and and appealed to the parties involved to maintain peace while the police carry out further investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, Mr Adeyemi Giwa, counsel to the owner of the property, Prince Akinwale Ojetimi, has vowed to press further charges against the serving General, his agents and some council officials over their roles in the brazen illegality.

“All those involved in this brazen illegality will face full weight of the law and pay dearly for it.

“It is inconceivable for anyone, no matter how highly placed, to surreptitiously want to wrestle our client’s property from him.

“The era of impunity is long over,” the lawyer said.

According to him, the land in question is a local government scheme which was legitimately allocated by the council to Ojetimi since 2004.

He said that the evolving odious developments, allegedly coming from the council, “is an unimaginable travesty and monumental fraud which must be promptly halted.”

Giwa had in a December 7, 2021 petition, asked the council to warn General Yusuf, Western Hotels and his agents against trespassing on the property.
