APC NWC disclaims ‘Leadership Council’ for Delta, as Omo-Agege, Nwaoboshi distance selves from the illegal contraption

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclaimed the setting of a “Leadership Council” for the party in Delta State.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, Felix Morka, Esq, National Publicity Secretary of the party, disavowed the council.

“The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party has been drawn to reports circulating in sections of the media regarding the inauguration of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) Leadership Council ‘approved by the National Leadership of our great Party.’
“This is to clarify that the NWC did not grant approval for the inauguration or operation of the “Leadership Council” in the Delta State Chapter of our Party, as claimed by reports.

“The said “Leadership Council” is not a body created or recognized under the Party’s Constitution which clearly spells out the statutory organs, structures and committees of the Party, and their respective powers and functions. The “Leadership Council” is not one of such constitutional organs, adhoc – structures or committees of the Party”, Morka stated.
In an earlier press release, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq, State Publicity Secretary of APC Delta State, claimed that the ‘national leadership” of APC has approved the “inauguration of the Delta APC Leadership Council under the co-chairmanship of Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN and Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege CFR.
The leadership council was slated for inauguration on March 8, 2025, according to Onojeghuo.

This effectively puts paid to the controversial move set up a parallel collegiate arrangement in the running of Delta APC.

Meanwhile, the leader of APC in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi among other top leaders have dissociated themselves from the purported parallel “College of Leaders.

They stated in a statement that:
“We, the undersigned, are shocked and outraged to discover our names inexplicably linked to a purported Delta APC Leadership Council in a Notice of Inauguration signed by Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., which is currently in circulation.

“We categorically and unequivocally deny any involvement, association, or knowledge of this council, and we condemn in the strongest terms the blatant and egregious attempt to falsely affiliate us with this illegitimate and unconstitutional entity.

“The creation of this council is a flagrant and reprehensible affront to the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the principles of democracy. Its establishment is a brazen and unauthorized act that contravenes the party’s constitution and the laws of Nigeria. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that it did not grant approval for the inauguration or operation of this council, contrary to their claims.

“Furthermore, we do not support the proposal that the College of Leaders should nominate party executives and select party candidates. This proposal contradicts our party’s constitution, which grants the power to elect party executives and nominate candidates solely to registered members. Our party’s constitution and extant laws clearly outline the democratic process for electing party executives and candidates, leaving no room for the College of Leaders to usurp this power.

“We therefore strongly object to our names being surreptitiously included in this document without our knowledge, consent, or participation. This is a clear and blatant violation of our rights, and an attempt to maliciously drag us into an illegal and unconstitutional venture. We will not allow our names to used to legitimize this sham contraption.

“We uphold the sanctity of the APC constitution, which emphasizes the supremacy of the party constitution for effective governance and promoting its ideals. We recognize and support all the organs established by the constitution for our State. These organs are the legitimate and constitutional bodies that govern the affairs of the party.

“While the creators of this contraption have the right to establish their own structures or pressure groups to advance their interests, they have no right to include our names without our consent. We will not participate in or support their illegitimate and unconstitutional activities.

“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its constitution. We will continue to work tirelessly to promote the party’s interests, unity, and values. However, we will not recognize or subscribe to any non-constitutional organ, regardless of its name or claims.

“We demand that our names be immediately and unconditionally excluded from any documents or publications related to this council. We also demand that the creators cease and desist from using our names to lend legitimacy to their illegal venture.

“We urge all party members and stakeholders to reject this illegitimate council and its unconstitutional proposals. We must stand together to protect our party’s democratic foundations and uphold the rule of law.

  • Heavy fight in Delta APC, as Ibori, Omo-Agege reportedly battle for control

Heavy fight in Delta APC, as Ibori, Omo-Agege reportedly battle for control

Ex-Delta Governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, and immediate past Deputy Senate President, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege are reportedly enmeshed in a Titanic battle for the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The battle, which has snowballed into a cold war, has reportedly polarized the APC into factions, with each of the two gladiators insisting that the leadership of the party belongs to each of them.

Findings revealed that the state chairman of the party, Chief Omeni Sobotie, reportedly suffering from an unknown ailment, has been dragged into the tussle, with Ibori and Omo-Agege demanding loyalty from the chairman.

Sources claim that the battle for the control of party became intense after Ibori’s daughter and member representing Ethiope federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Ehriatake Ibori-Suenu decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently.

Although Omo-Agege was in Oghara, headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government of Delta State, ostensibly as leader of the APC to welcome her to the party, insiders maintain that all is not well with the party.

The former DSP, who was the governorship candidate of the APC in the 2023 general election in Delta, has reportedly been trying to maintain control of the party, insisting that all structures must subordinate to his leadership.

However, Ibori, who was responsible for Omo-Agege’s entry into politics, was said to be using his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to ensure full control of the party, a development said to have unsettled the former DSP and his supporters.

The former Governor, although still retaining his membership of the PDP, has reportedly leveraged on his relationship with the President to secure key appointments at the federal level for his allies, including his daughter, who was appointed chairman of the NDDC committee in the House of Representatives.

By contrast, Ibori has allegedly blocked Ovie Omo-Agege and his associates from getting federal appointments, insisting that he, and not DSP, should be the clearing house for appointments for APC members in APC.

A reliable source disclosed that the present crisis in Delta APC was caused by the rivalry between the two gladiators, but maintain that DSP may have lost out of the power game.

“Everyone knows President Tinubu does not like Omo-Agege. None of his men have been given appointments by Abuja. But we all know Chief Ibori is a friend of Aso Rock. He is always with the President. That’s why we all want him as leader of our party.

“Omo-Agege has virtually lost out. But, he is still fighting to control the party. It will not work because all the major stakeholders and appointees at the federal level are not with him. I can tell you that DSP is a drowning man”, disclosed the source.

It is yet to be known how the crisis in the APC would be resolved as Ibori was also said to have started moves to make Olorogun David Edevwie, a trusted ally, the next governorship candidate of the APC in the 2027 election, a development said to have infuriates Omo-Agege.

  • What Omo-Agege said as Ibori’s daughter joins his party

What Omo-Agege said as Ibori’s daughter joins his party

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the 9th Senate and Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has said the defection of Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu to his party is a welcomed development.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Ibori-Suenu, who represents Ethiope Federal Constituency in the Nigerian House of Representatives, left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday and pitched tents with the ruling APC.

“I am thrilled to welcome Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the Honourable Member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Her joining our party is a monumental boost to our party’s surging strength and influence in Delta State.

“Ibori-Suenu is not just a valuable addition to our party; she is also a long-time ally and friend. We have collaborated on various projects and initiatives, and I can attest to her exceptional leadership skills, unwavering dedication, and unshakeable commitment to the welfare of our people,” Omo-Agege said.

He went further to say: “As the leader of Delta State APC, I’ve always been driven to build a strong, inclusive party that represents the best interests of our people. Ibori-Suenu is a seasoned leader with a wealth of experience and expertise that will undoubtedly propel our party’s growth and success.

“Her decision to join us is a powerful endorsement of our party’s unwavering commitment to progress, development, and transformation in Delta State. I’m excited to work with Ibori-Suenu to build an unstoppable APC in Delta State.

“Our party remains unshakeably committed to providing a platform for like-minded individuals to come together and work towards a common goal of building a better future for our people. Once again, I welcome Ibori-Suenu to the APC and assure her of our unflinching support and cooperation as we work together to build a new Delta State”.

    Ex-Gov Ibori, Omo-Agege mourn over Utuama’s death

Former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori has said he would have halted the death of a former Deputy Governor of the State, Prof Amos Agbe Utuama, if it were within his power to do so.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Prof Utuama, who served as Delta’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice during the tenure of Chief Ibori, died at the age of 77 in the early hours of Saturday in Warri.

In his tribute, Ibori described the late Utuama as a humble, loyal aide who executed his duties with utmost professionalism during his lifetime.

“Professor Amos Agbe Utuama, my humble, loyal, and esteemed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. You were my steadfast legal foundation, executing your duties with unwavering commitment. If it were within my power to halt death, I would have done so for you. Farewell, dear Professor. May your pure soul rest in eternal peace,” Ibori stated.

Born on June 5, 1947, Utuama served as Deputy Governor from 2007 to 2015 during the two-term tenure of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Omo-Agege mourns, says Utuama was a defender of rule of law

Meanwhile, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has described Professor Amos Agbe Utuama as a legal luminary that distinguished himself in fighting for the rule of law to prevail in all affairs of state and levels of government.

Utuama, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who was Deputy Governor of Delta State between 2007 and 2015 when Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan was governor, passed at 77 years.

Earlier, the professor of law in University of Lagos was Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Chief James Ibori’s administration in Delta State.

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, while reacting to the death of the legal luminary said Prof. Utuama was one of the persons that headlined the emergence of a stable federation at the onset of the Fourth Republic.

“Having come into Chief Ibori’s government as a accomplished law teacher, Prof. Utuama was very instrumental in using his stature to instill a level of stability and respect for states at a time the Fourth Republic was still wobbling as a Federation where different political parties held sway in different states.

Senator Omo-Agege said: “I recall the days where Chief Ibori initiated the legal battles that preceded the commencement of the payment of 13 percent derivation fund as enshrined in the Constitution. Prof. Utuama’s stature and  expertise drove the legal process that gave victory to the Niger Delta states,” the former Deputy President of the Senate said in his tribute to the late Deputy Governor.

“Indeed, the Niger Delta, not just Delta State,  has lost a great son. His legacy will never be forgotten and Nigeria was lucky to have had him in government at the time his calibre was desperately needed,” Omo-Agege stated.

He commiserated with the Urhobo nation, Delta State and the Niger Delta region on the death of the former Deputy Governor.

  • I owe late Ubah eternal debt of gratitude – Omo-Agege

I owe late Ubah eternal debt of gratitude – Omo-Agege

The immediate past Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has said he owed the late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah an eternal debt of gratitude for his sacrifice and loyalty to good friendship.

Omo-Agege, in a statement he issued in Asaba on Sunday, said Ubah was a friend and confidant, whose sudden death he described as shocking and depressing.

Recall that Ubah, the senator representing Anambra Senatorial District, died in his hotel room in the early hours of Saturday in London.

Omo-Agege said: “Sen. Ubah was a committed patriot, greatly respected business tycoon and passionate parliamentarian.

”He handled every private endeavour and public governance duty with extraordinary dedication and resourcefulness in our nation’s collective interest.

“He was a rallying point of hope for a great many in our country; ebullient, positive-spirited and result-driven.

“Sen. Ubah selflessly chaired the campaign committee that convinced and mobilised our distinguished co-equal colleagues in the 9th Senate of the Republic to elect me as Deputy Senate President.”

He said words were, therefore, not enough to convey the exact feeling of a loss so touching and painful.

”Indeed, Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah’s sudden exit from this earthly realm raises really painful questions about human life and its ephemeralness.

”A great Nigerian; a good man; a beloved leader; a helper of multitudes is gone just like that! But then, we cannot question the Almighty God, who decides our earthly journey as humans.

“As the nation mourns the huge loss of this truly distinguished Nigerian, I enjoin our people to pray to God to comfort and strengthen his wife, children and his entire family,” said Omo-Agege.

  • How Oborevwori defeated Omo-Agege at Supreme Court

How Oborevwori defeated Omo-Agege at Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Nigeria in a unanimous judgement on Friday affirmed Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as the duly elected Governor of Delta State.

The apex court dismissed the appeal brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Ovie- Omo-Agege, against the election of Governor Oborevwori.

The court in the lead judgement delivered by Justice John Okoro held that Omo-Agege, a former Deputy Senate President, failed woefully to establish that the election was invalid for alleged corrupt malpractices.

Okoro said that none of the allegations against the March 18, 2023, was established as required by law.

While Oborevwori scored 360,234 votes to win the governorship election, his closest rival, Omo-Agege of the APC, polled 240,229 votes.

The Supreme Court rejected the plea by Omo-Agege that the election be nullified on the allegations that the election was not conducted in substantial compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act.

Okoro also rejected the claim that the results of the governorship election were not properly recorded in some polling units and the allegations that the forms that contained some of the recorded results did not have serial numbers.

While affirming Oborevwori as the lawfully elected governor for Delta, the apex court affirmed the judgements of the Delta State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal which had earlier dismissed Omo-Agege’s petition for want of merit.

PDP congratulates Gov. Oborevwori on Supreme Court victory

Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, on the Supreme Court  judgement  affirming his victory at the  March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state.

The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba in Abuja on Friday,  described the verdict of the Supreme Court as another resounding victory for democracy and the  rule of law.

Ologunagba also described it as expressing the will of the people of Delta in the determination to sustain peace, good governance and development in their state under the banner of the PDP.

“Oborevwori’s overwhelming victory at the polls, as affirmed by the Tribunal, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court is a celebratory testament of the triumph of the will and aspiration of the people of Delta

“This is in resistance to anti-democratic forces that sought to forcefully take control of their state,” he said.

Ologunagba saluted the people of Delta for their support to the PDP and Oborevwori, who epitomised their collective will for purposeful, transparent, people-based and development-oriented leadership in the state.

“Our party is proud of Oborevwori’s capacity for leadership as evident in his achievements in the delivery of life-changing citizen empowerment programmes and projects in critical sectors.”

This according to him includes agriculture, education, healthcare, power, industrialization, oil and gas, housing, road infrastructure among others since his inauguration on May 29, 2023.

He congratulated the people of Delta for the victory and charged Oborevwori to remain steadfast in  delivery of people-oriented programmes and projects in line with the policy thrust and manifesto of the PDP.

Oborevwori’s victory: Omo-Agege reacts over Supreme Court verdict

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has asked his supporters to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court affirming Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as the duly elected Governor of Delta State.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Omo-Agege is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 2023 governorship election held in Delta.

The Supreme Court today affirmed the declaration of Oborevwori as Governor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Reacting, Omo-Agege said all citizens are bound to accept and abide by the decisions of the apex court even if they do not accord with their personal or collective expectations of justice.

He, however, congratulated Governor Oborevwori and wished him well, while praying to God for good health, strength and wisdom for Oborevwori to govern the State well.

A statement by the former Deputy Senate President reads: “The Supreme Court today disallowed our appeal in respect of the March 18, 2023 Delta State Governorship Election and affirmed the return of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oberevwori as the duly elected Governor of Delta State.

“As the final court of the land, all citizens are bound to accept and abide by its decisions even if they do not accord with their personal or collective expectations of justice.

“So, we ask our people to respect today’s decision and give their best to promote peace everywhere in our beloved Delta State. The unity, peace, and general good of our dear State are bigger and more important than any individual or group interest.

“Having responsibly and fully played our role in principled defence of our fervent belief in the truth, honour and justice of our case and cause as democrats, we must now yield all to posterity, even as we thank God Almighty who gave us the grace to stand in the first place.

“Here, I must first thank my beloved wife, our dear children and great family for their huge sacrifices in my quest to offer innovative and caring leadership to our people.

“I am particularly immensely grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for his genuine commitment and extraordinary support for our cause as the leader of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a great statesman.

“Further, I sincerely thank the National Working Committee (NWC) and indeed the entire national leadership of our party ably led by His Excellency Alhaji (Dr.) Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for their unwavering support.

“We are equally grateful to the Delta State Executive Committee of the APC under the leadership of Elder Omeni Sobotie for its dedication to duty, godly counsel, and support.

“We are also eternally grateful to our Campaign Organisation which, devotedly led by Elder Godsday Orubebe as Director-General, championed our campaign everywhere in Delta for a better State and country.

“Our special gratitude similarly extends to members of our legal team led by Mr. Robert Emukpoeruo, SAN for their extraordinary scholarship, industry and commitment to the course of justice.

“In the same way, we thank all our respected political, religious, community, business, professional, and youth leaders, great friends and indeed all our party members and supporters for all they did to support us. May the good Lord bless you all.

“To my dear and dependable brother and running mate, the Rt. Hon. Friday Osanebi, thank you for your strong character and firm belief in God who gives power as it pleases Him alone. We ran a great race. Hold your head high as a man of honour. I pray the Almighty God rewards your faithfulness and loyalty beyond ordinary human comprehension.

“Now, to my dear brother, His Excellency, Rt. Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State, accept my congratulations for your victory today.

“It has been a long-drawn out struggle to offer our people the best in the governance of our State. It is about the collective interest and good of our people, not our personal interest.

“Having now received the Supreme Court’s seal of approval, I must wish you well as a democrat. May the good Lord guide and abide with you and give you good health, strength and wisdom to govern our State well in Jesus’ name”.
