FG challenges Obi to provide clarification on leaked audio conversation

The Federal Government has challenged the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to clarify his position on a leaked audio of the conversation he allegedly had with a prominent Nigerian cleric.

The audio clip as released by an online newspaper was an alleged conversation between Obi and the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo.

Addressing the media on Monday in London, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Obi should clarify what he meant by saying the leaked conversation was “a fake doctored audio call.”

“I need to draw the attention of Nigerians to the recent leaked audio of conversation between the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and the cleric.

“The leaked audio rattled Nigerians because we heard Obi pleading with the cleric to interfere on his behalf to convince Christians that this is a religious war and they should support him,” he said.

The minister said that in the aftermath of the leaked audio, Obi came out to say that it was “a fake, doctored audio call.”

The minister said: ” If it is fake, it means it never took place. But if it is doctored, it means there was that conversation but it was manipulated.

“Obi needs to come out and make the clarification on whether the conversation did not take place or it took place, but it was doctored.

“If it was doctored, which part of it was doctored?

“Is it  the beginning, the middle or the end or is it the ‘Yes Daddy’ part of it, or where he said it was a religious war?”

Mohammed said the leaked audio had corroborated the position that Obi’s electioneering campaign was based on religion and ethnicity.

He said this was the first time in the history of Nigeria’s elections that a politician would come out openly to campaign on grounds of religion and ethnicity.

“From the outcome of the presidential elections you will see that Obi got his vote mostly from areas where he comes from and his religious leaning.

” This is not good for the politics of Nigeria and it is very dangerous.

“As a result of this kind of campaign, Nigeria is more divided than ever and people are being heard commenting either based on their religious position or ethnic origin.

”Many otherwise respected commentators are not left behind on the effect of this divisive politics,”  he said.

Speaking on his mission to London, the minister said it was to defend the legitimacy of the just concluded  general elections and to correct the imbalance in the skewed narrative which had pervaded the air on the polls

He said, like what he did recently in Washington, he would let the world know that the 2023 election was the freest in Nigeria’s history.

The minister is scheduled to hold conversations and meetings with international media organisations and relevant think tanks based in London.

The convocation was tagged ‘Release of Eagles for 2022’.

Fatima Andat, a student in the Department of Accounting, College of Management and Social Sciences, emerged as the best-graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 5.0.

Adebayo said that the institution, on a rescue mission in education, had determined to raise a new generation of leaders that would restore the lost glory of the black race.

“In just two decades of its existence, Covenant University has become a leading world-class university and the best higher education destination for students in Africa.

“In addition, Covenant University emerged as the best university out of the 111 private universities in Nigeria by the Prestige Nigeria Education,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chancellor of the Institution, Dr. David Oyedepo, urged the graduands to be productive and take responsibility in order not to end as liabilities.

Oyedepo said that everyone was absolutely responsible for their outcome in life, as responsibility was the prices of greatness.

“Life begins with a vision, no one arrived at a future he or she does not prepare for. It is time to wake up and take responsibility early because commitment to one’s vision is what is called responsibility,” he said.

He implored parents to allow their children to take responsibility so that they would not end up as liabilities in life.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Covenant University (CU) is a private Christian university in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria.[1][2][3] It is affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Association of African Universities , and National Universities Commission.[4][5] In 2019, Covenant University became the first Nigerian university to be ranked in the top 401-500 category of world universities by Times Higher Education.

2023: I saw a nation going down the drain – Bishop Oyedepo warns

The Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo has warned Nigerians ahead of the 2023 general elections after revealing he was against voting for the current government in 2015.

Oyedepo said this at the ongoing Shiloh program at the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State.

He said, “I think I am prompted by the spirit we need to pray for this nation. I warned this nation in 2015 that we were heading for crisis and trauma, many were washing their mouth. They are off today.

“God does not require consensus to raise a prophet. I saw a nation going down the drain, I cried. There are many prophets of politicians who speak what they want to hear.

“I have been very silent, what we need now is not a leader, it is a deliverer. Almost nothing remains except the church that can be called a nation”.

Why Nigeria is going through a lot – Oyedepo

The Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo has stated that unity is the key to make Nigeria move forward as a nation.

Oyedepo said this at the funeral service of Rev. Isaac Oyebamiji, the Founder and General Overseer, Chapel of Mercy, on Friday in Jos.

According to Oyedepo, the progress and growth of Nigerian society depend on the unity and love that Christians will have for one another.

He decried the challenges currently facing the nation saying they could be surmounted by the time Christians start speaking with one voice.

”It is high time Christians in Nigeria begin to speak with one voice; we must begin to love each other and even non-Christians

”Today, Nigeria is going through a lot because we refused to unite, we have refused to learn to live together.

”So, the unity of Christians is very important for the growth and development of this country,” he said.

The cleric, who described the deceased as a ”true man of God”, called on other ministers of the gospel to emulate the lifestyle he had lived.

He advised family members of the deceased to hold on to the beautiful legacies he left behind for the greater good of the society.

Speaking, the wife of deceased, Pastor Olutoyin Oyebamiji, described her late husband as `honest and one who fears God’.

She said that she was happy that it was the Lord who took him to Himself, hence she strongly believed he was resting and in a better place.

She thanked all church leaders and those who stood by her and the family in their moment of grief and asked God to bless them all.

Oyebamiji, 64, died after a brief illness in the U.S.

He held a doctorate degree in Ministry, with emphasis on ”Leadership and Preaching” from the Asbury Theological Seminary, Kentucky, U.S.

He is survived by his wife, five children and many other relatives.

  • What I will do to whoever tries to run Winners Chapel on borrowed money – Oyedepo

What I will do to whoever tries to run Winners Chapel on borrowed money – Oyedepo

Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has warned whoever succeeds him against obtaining loans to run the denomination.

Oyedepo issued the warning while teaching at the church’s headquarters in Ogun State midweek.

“There are many stupid wealthy people who are owing more than they own,” Oyedepo, whose church is nicknamed ‘Winners Chapel,’ said, according to religious blog, Church Gist.

“Your net worth is N1 billion and you are owing N10 billion. That is minus N9 billion. Is that wisdom? And you will be doing big boy around town but the banks know you are a small boy.

“The day they die, they may sell their wife. Wisdom gives peace, so when you say you are at peace they don’t believe you because of the pressure they are under from living above their means, buying a big car on loan. Is that life?

“People just do some funny things in the name of trying to be big. Such people are not in this church.

“When I am going to heaven at my old age, if Jesus tarries, there will be a curse on anyone who borrows on behalf of this church until Jesus returns.

‘You don’t have to if we got to where we are without borrowing. How dare you? Where did you get it from? I am not owing any man living or dead.

“I am going to heaven smiling. I have not cheated anyone,” the Winners Chapel leader is quoted to have said.

Oyedepo’s Winners Chapel runs many branches in Nigeria and around the world. Canaanland, the church’s cathedral in Ogun State, is one of the biggest worship centres on the planet.

The church also runs Covenant University, which is rated as one of the best institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.

  • Iyiola Oyedepo declares interest in Kwara South senatorial seat

Iyiola Oyedepo declares interest in Kwara South senatorial seat

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, has declared interest to contest for the Kwara South senatorial seat in 2023.

Oyedepo, a lawyer, made his intention known on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.

“I want to pick the Senate seat of the Kwara South senatorial district. I want to displace people who are there now, especially, the one from the south, Sen. Lola Ashiru.

“I want him to start to pack his load. By the grace of God, I shall win. I am prepared for the contest, fully prepared,” Oyedepo said.

The party chieftain said he was interested in the senate seat to do things better than those that have gone there.

“I have antecedent that I can rely on. I am more qualified than any of them that have been there before,” he said.

Oyedepo, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, declared that he has the qualification and experience to serve as a senator.

“I operated in the executive as a commissioner in the state in 1992; I have been a party stalwart and party chairman in two political parties.

“I was the chairman of the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN), and I made a lot of impact, tremendous impact in that party. Later, I became the chairman of PDP.

“What I use the PDP to achieve is what made people be in the Senate and House of Representatives now.

“If there is anybody that is qualified more than any of them, I am the person.

“Apart from that, I have been in the legislature. I was a member of Kwara House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003; my records are there which I will bring out when the contest begins,” he added.

“I am sure that if you tell them that I am going to the senate, they know that I will do it better than all of them that have gone there from the south.

“Is it knowledge, or how to do things in the senate that they can do better than me?

“I am a lawyer, apart from being in the legislature, from being in the party structure, or being in the executive, I understand the judiciary as a lawyer, I have traversed all other areas.

“Who amongst them that had gone before me or are there now that can boast of such credentials? So, I am going to the senate by the grace of God,” he added.

Oyedepo said that he was one of the few that fought day and night to defeat the Saraki dynasty in Kwara.

“I did not ask for any position, other than to go on working day and night to ensure victory for our party, for the success of the party.

“Today, majority of those in power, either at the senate or at the state level reaped from our efforts. We worked and they reap from our efforts.

“Many of them didn’t do any work other than saying they are part of the party and they won, some of them even said they became senators within 30 days,” he said.

Oyedepo declared that some of them in the party have been working for 18 years to ensure success for the party and freedom for the Kwara people.

He added that before he became the chairman of PDP, he has been attacking the establishment in form of written articles, books, and petitioning the EFCC and ICPC.

“When I became the chairman of PDP, I am the first person to institute radio political broadcast in this state,” he said.

Oyedepo added that radio political broadcast was his initiative which he used to sensitise and mobilise the people of the state to vote out PDP in 2019.

“The radio political broadcast worked and that is why many of them are in the senate now, in the House of Representatives, they are in the executive in Kwara, they are in the legislature in Kwara,” he said.

Oyedepo added that he would roll out his plan as soon as INEC give the go-ahead for the political campaigns.

  • Oyedepo advises youths against get-rich-quick syndrome

Oyedepo advises youths against get-rich-quick syndrome

President, Living Faith Church International, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has cautioned young Nigerians to shun what he called get-rich-quick syndrome.

Oyedepo gave the advice at the 8th Convocation of Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State, held on Friday.

Forty-five out of a total of 468 graduates that passed out of the institution bagged first class honours while 196 were in second class upper division; 221 second class lower division and six in third class.

Oyedepo, who is the institution’s Chancellor and visitor, warned youths that impatience could lead to a life of horror.

He said, “Hurry is the breeding ground for horror. It is common knowledge that most victims of accidents are men and women in a hurry, insensitive to road signs and who engage in over speeding, ending their lives before they know.

“The word ‘patience’ is no longer in the vocabulary of our youths. They don’t believe in the dignity of labour, leading to many losing their lives.

“Some other youths are into hard drug business. A number of these may have been shot dead in the course of their business and many may be lamenting in various countries around the world.

“Some youths must have joined armed robbery gangs because they cannot wait, the process is too slow for them. A number of youths today engage in computer scam and many are grieving in prison, while others continue to suffer irreversible curses from their victims.

“Furthermore, today, a particular syndrome is the crave to travel out of the country without a defined mission. You ask some of these youths ‘you must travel, but to where?’ You may be surprised to hear their answer: ‘anywhere’. Or you are travelling to do what? Their response is ‘anything.’

“There is nothing wrong in going out to study, but there is everything wrong in living one’s life to chance. Life without a mission is adventure in frustration. Travelling out of the country is not an Achievement.”

Oyedepo counselled youths to guard their lives jealously, adding that “remember that you have only one life to live and you don’t have a spare.”

  • I’ll chew you raw if you speak negatively about Oyedepo – Ibiyeomie

I’ll chew you raw if you speak negatively about Oyedepo – Ibiyeomie

Founder, Salvation Ministries, Port Harcourt, Pastor David Ibiyeomie has said he would chew anyone raw who speak negatively about Bishop David Oyedepo.

Ibiyeomie said Oyedepo and other top men of God are to be honoured and not to be disrespected or spoken evil against.

“You must honour them in your heart. It is more of connectivity than proximity. You can be close to somebody does not mean you honour him. There are people who honour me who have never met me and there are those who are very close to me that don’t honour me.

“That you are close to somebody does not mean you honour the person. Honour has nothing to do with proximity. It has to do with connectivity. It is heart to heart. I have never gone physically before Oyedepo to do eye service.

“I have never knelt down to greet him. I am not from there. That is their culture. Here, when we respect someone, it is from inside. You can lie down there in hypocrisy and after the person is gone, you stand up and say, “Oloshi ni e* (He is unfortunate person),” he said.

Ibiyeomie stated that honour is not how one knelt down, but a heart issue and that it is more of the heart than physical display.

“You can lie down on the ground and have no honour. I’ve seen people who said they will die with Oyedepo and still turn around to abuse him. I honour him to a point that you can’t talk about him negatively where I am.
“You are not born to talk about him. I will chew you raw. Our heart is the part that connect us to the flow of prophetic blessings,” he added.

Ibiyeomie also said there was no way he could compare himself to Oyedepo as he is far bigger and that there was no way Oyedepo could could compare himself with Pastor Enoch Adeboye as he is bigger in anointing.

“Preachers, there are preachers. Shoes get size. It will be stupid for me to think I am mate with Oyedepo or Oyedepo should think he is mate with Adeboye. Shoe get size. Everybody knows his size. Don’t just wag your tongue about people that are not your mate.

“I don’t even talk about Oyedepo in secret. I don’t even discuss him. I don’t want to know. He is a man of God. If you say you have seen fault, it is your own business,” he stated.

  • Many will go blind, crippled in three days, Oyedepo lay curses on terrorists troubling Nigeria’s peace

Many will go blind, crippled in three days, Oyedepo lay curses on terrorists troubling Nigeria’s peace

Bishop David Oyedepo, president and founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide has rained curses on bandits, terrorists and other criminal elements that have invaded the country.

Oyedepo who was angered by the recent surge in insecurity in Nigeria, said it is time for judgement, saying the blood of the innocent citizens who were slaughtered by the unscrupulous elements will fight against them.

He declared that, “The God of vengeance is rising in defence of this nation today.

“You can tell how many destinies have been unsettled by the unsettlement of this nation: Fulani vagabonds making life impossible for local people and do they claim not to know?

“We heard it exposed but I knew it before. Fire from now. You are sons and daughters of the prophet, go invoke the same fire you hear being invoked on this altar. Heaven will answer.

“And the Church became mute; they cut the neck of a church leader in this kind of age. If nothing happens, God has not sent me, but judgment will be ravaging the land from now.

“Many will sleep and never wake up. Many will be struck with blindness in 24 hours.

“Many will be crippled in 3 days. My God is turning the table against the wicked.

The pastor blamed some Nigerians who could not heed his warning against the present administration during the 2015 general elections. He, however, said the mistakes will not be repeated in the next elections.

“The error this nation made in 2015 will never be repeated forever. The choice of the wicked to sit on the throne of Nigeria will never be repeated. This nation will experience a new order of settlement.

“For the blood of many that they have wasted, their generations will pay for it. Every time the Holy Ghost moves on me in this direction, something happens and I know that, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ whom I serve, judgement begins now,” he added.
