  • Nigeria Decides: APC denies endorsing governor Seyi Makinde for re-election

Nigeria Decides: APC denies endorsing governor Seyi Makinde for re-election

In Oyo state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied endorsing governor, Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

APC claimed that the speculation that it endorsed Seyi Makinde is false and only aimed at misleading the electorates in the state.

There were reports flying around that about three pro-Tinubu groups in the state had dumped the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Senator Teslim Folarin, for the incumbent governor who is seeking reelection into office.

However, the APC through a statement issued over the weekend, signed and delivered by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, describe the report of such endorsement as a placing undue pressure on the electorates and a form of desperation on the part of the governor and his negligible supporters who have seen the writing on the wall and are now looking for a miracle that could make them escape disgraceful defeat at the poll on Saturday.

“First and foremost, we would like to state that there are no pro-Tinubu groups registered with Oyo APC by the names “Southern for Tinubu BAT Democracy, Yoruba Campaign for BAT and Tinubu Campaign Movement while the two names mentioned in the fallacious news report are fictitious. The latest fake news came from the same unscrupulous elements who promoted one non-existing Alhaji Bashir Adeola as Oyo APC chieftain purportedly supporting Gov. Makinde. We challenged them then to produce that person but they ran away.

“It is an established fact that Gov. Makinde has embarked on a spending spree to get support for another term in office as he invited some stakeholders with Oyo PDP to the Agodi Government House few days ago and gave them N500 million as a bait but the fact remains that no reasonable polician in the state would trust him (Makinde) again in spite of the fate suffered in his hands by those who assisted him to become governor in 2019.

“Among shameful acts being perpetrated by the drowning governor and his lackeys are; coercion of senior public servants (especially tutors-general, education secretaries and headteachers) to turn public school environment into campaign grounds for PDP candidates, sponsorship of miscreants drawn from the PMS to intimidate residents and prospective voters across the state, payment of heavy sums to some media executives so as to influence the content of their news and programmes in favour of the PDP, enlistment of support of pastors and some other religious leaders and so on.

“”As a matter of fact, we have uncovered the plot to dish out many fake news, concocted opinion polls and damaging publications in all the available media apparatuses so to create an avenue for condemnation of INEC after a winner other than Gov. Makinde would have emerged the winner. We are also aware of the preponderance of disgraceful media engagement of some turncoats who left our party last year and are now working for Gov. Makinde but we would not dignify them with any response until our victory this weekend.

“As a serious political party, our focus is on the March 11, 2023 goveenorship and House of Assembly elelction where we poised to better the feat recorded on February 25. We would not allow any confused desperado to distract us and it is at this juncture that we are appealing to the good people of the state to be resolute and stand their ground as ready to prevent Oyo state from falling into opposition again under Tinubu presidency.” Sadare added.

APC postpones presidential campaign rally in Oyo indefinitely

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its presidential campaign rally scheduled for Tuesday in Ibadan indefinitely.

The party’s Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Mr Olawale Sadare stated in Ibadan on Monday that the decision was taken by the Gov. Simon Lalong-led Presidential Campaign Council in view of current realities in the nation.

“We need to allow President Muhammadu Buhari to work around the situation and ensure that normalcy returns, particularly as it concerns fuel and currency notes crises.

“At Oyo APC, we were convinced that it was necessary to go ahead with the event in order not to play into the hands of some antidemocratic forces who do not want the general elections to hold,’’ it stated.

The party expressed regret that current cash crunch and its effect on the populace, fuel scarcity and hike in the pump price of petrol compelled it to take the decision.

“We regret to announce the indefinite postponement of our presidential rally earlier slated for Tuesday. The decision was taken in consideration of the prevailing challenges facing the nation,’’ Sadare stated.

He added that a new date for the rally would be announced in due course, while assuring that the APC would host its presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in no distant future.

The party appealed for calm among its loyalists and assured that the party would be victorious at the forthcoming general elections.

Adeniran admonished them to work hard for the success of the education sector with their new appointments.

“So that, at the end of it all, your names will be written in gold among those that have immensely contributed to the success of this administration,” he said.

Adeniran said he was convinced that their appointment was in recognition of their capacity, capability and contributions over the years to the development of education in the state.

“With you, a new era of primary school administration and leadership has, once again, been ushered in.

“In addition, you are expected to work very hard at your jurisdiction to complement the efforts of the State Universal Basic Education Board in particular and Universal Basic Education Commission in general,” he said.

The executive chairman urged them to buckle up for the few challenges they might be facing.

Adeniran urged them to deal with the challenges accordingly, in line with the dictum that “there are no insurmountable challenges”.

The chairman urged them to take charge of the general administration of the LGUBEA and ensure effective monitoring of schools’ activities within the LGUBEA.

He, however, called for strict compliance with the rules of engagement, so that the whole system would be run as envisioned for the benefit of the state and pupils and learners who were supposed to be the future leaders.

“You are expected to exercise strict caution when making decisions and always seek clearance and advice from the Board on grey areas to avoid making mistakes and mistakes that could be costly while running your office,” Adeniran said.
