Anambra Guber: It’s not over, we can still win this election, PDP’s Ozigbo tells supporters

Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Anambra governorship election, says he can still emerge victorious in the exercise that is expected to end on Tuesday.

The Independent National Electoral (INEC) had declared the election inconclusive on the grounds that election did not hold in Ihiala Local Government.

Professor Chukwuma Soludo has the highest votes in the election, having secure victory in 18 of the 20 LGAs where election held.

Although Ozigbo secured the second highest votes in the election, he won only one of the 20 LGAs where elections held.

Addressing newsmen on the eve of the supplementary poll, Ozigbo said the election battle is not yet over.

According to him, there over 248,000 votes at stake in Ihiala and other places where election did not take place.

In his address, Ozigbo appealed to the people of Ihiala to come out en masse and vote for PDP.

He lamented the impact of vote buying which he described as a major issue in the polity.

Ozigbo said as a party without the control of public funds, PDP could not have bought votes.

The PDP candidate asked INEC to conduct election in all the areas where people did not vote.

He said in many places, people came out in large number but were denied the opportunity to participate in the process.

However, he said he was only concerned with the complementary election at the moment, adding that he would decide on next line of action after the election.

Anambra guber election not yet over, still winnable – PDP candidate

Mr Valentine Ozigbo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the ongoing Anambra governorship election, has said that the contest is not over and remains “winnable“ for him.

Ozigbo stated this whole speaking at a news conference in Awka on Monday.

He expressed the hope that the PDP would close the gap if electoral officials and materials were effectively deployed on time for the supplementary election in Ihiala Local Government Area (LGA), slated for Nov. 9.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday night suspended the Anambra election after releasing results of 20 out of the 21 LGAs, except Ihiala.

According to INEC, the top parties and their scores were, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), 103,946, PDP-51,322, All Progressives Congress (APC) 42,942 and Young Progressives Party- 20,917
Ozigbo said the Anambra election would continue beyond Tuesday provided the margin of lead was less than the number of registered voters in places where there was proof that elections did not hold.

He said apart from Ihiala, which had more than 148,000 registered voters, there were places which the party had proven there no election with over 100,000 registered voters.

He said Ihiala alone could upturn the result with the level of awareness going on, adding that INEC must ensure that voters did not encounter the frustration they had on Saturday again by making sure that proper deployment was made and machines were functional.

“I want to assure the good people of Anambra that the election is not over, it is still winnable for us, the PDP.

“The over 248,000 votes in Ihiala tomorrow and other places is enough to change the situation, I call on our people to remain hopeful and make it possible by coming out to vote.

“There was no low turnout of voters on Saturday, what we had was technology induced challenges which denied many people the opportunity to vote.

“While we commend INEC for their effort to improve the electoral process with technology, we want to acknowledge the imperfection that marred the exercise, it was a big experiment we did not deserve,” he said.

Ozigbo blamed ‘denominational’ and ‘money’ politics for the current outcome of the process while calling on Anambra electorate to de-emphase them in order to get the best of the contestants.

Ozigbo expresses worry over poor Internet, asks INEC to extend voting time

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo has expressed worry over the poor Internet connectivity experienced by voters in Anambra state as Independent National Electoral Commission deploys Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BIVAS) machine.

Mr. Ozigbo decried that it took him over 20 minutes to casts his vote and wondered what other voters would experience in various parts of the State.

The business mogul and former Transcorp boss made the call shortly after casting his vote at Social Centre, Unit 010, Amesi, Aguata local government area.

He seized the opportunity to call on eligible voters to come out and exercise their franchise, assuring them of their security.

He further decried late arrival of materials at Awka South, Orumba North, other parts, and urged INEC officials to ensure materials get to those areas to avoid disenfranchising voters.

Anambra governorship debate: Soludo, Uba, Ozigbo take stand on IPOB

Ahead of the November, 6 governorship election in Anambra State, major governorship candidates which include Andy Uba of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have made their stands on the issues concerning the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The aforesaid contenders made their stance on IPOB public during a governorship debate, which is organised by Arise News Channel, with the support of a non-governmental organisation, Enough-is-Enough Nigeria.

Speaking on the topic, Soludo said, ” I am on record speaking, I visited Nnamdi Kanu in 2016 in Kuje prison, with prominent people to ask for his release in line with a court order.

Summarily, he said dialogue is the best solution to the IPOB issue.

Ozigbo said Kanu is a product of leadership failure. He also urged for dialogue and called for Kanu’s release.

On his part, Uba said he believes in engagement. He said the agitation is as a result of joblessness.

On IPOB again, Uba declined supporting or condemning the group. He said engagement is the right step to take. Soludo is a pan Nigerian. He, however, said the IPOB deserves to be heard; dialogue. Ozigbo said there are certain things that IPOB does that he supports. He, however, said he does not support the group’s extremisms.

Infrastructure: Ozigbo questions Soludo, Uba’s integrity having held top public offices yet ignored Anambra’s deplorableness

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Anambra State governorship election, Valentine Ozigbo, has questioned the integrity of his counterparts, Andy Uba of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on the state of infrastructure development in the state.

Valentine Ozigbo says the duo representinh APGA and APC have failed the Anambra people, as far as Infrastructure is concerned in the state.

He stressed that both Soludo and Uba who hailed from his the same Local Government with himself had held top public offices in Nigeria and never did anything tangible with the privilege of holding such offices.

Ozigbo made the remarks during a governorship debate, which is organised by Arise News Channel, with the support of a non-governmental organisation, Enough-is-Enough Nigeria.

“Public-private partnership is essentially government revenue alone cannot fix the infrastructure.”

Ozigbo added that he will also cut unnecessary waste to get funding.”

Soludo speaking on infrastructure admitted that there is a road challenge that needs to be fixed. He said will declare a state of emergency on roads; continuing from where Obiano stopped. He also said he will launch an urban renewal agenda if elected.

He also said he has thought through how the roads will be funded.

On his part, Uba said he will also declare a state of emergency on roads. “Soludo speaking long English here,” Uba said. He questioned the APGA candidate about what he has been advising presidents about. The APC candidate also said he will ensure the state’s airport becomes effective, saying it’s not working at the moment.

  • Ozigbo, Anambra And Tomorrow

    Ozigbo, Anambra And Tomorrow

    By Oseloka H. Obaze

Often, while the past is fraught with bleak history, the future is poignant with imponderables. That cliché fits well into Anambra States governance narrative and leadership needs. A slew of well known names aspire to lead Anambra come 17 March 2022. The qualifying election is scheduled for 6 November 2021. Everyone in the race is running against a glaringly poor APGA governance record from 2014 to date.

The choice of who leads Anambra state in 2021, is now well beyond debate or academic exercise. It is an existential question for the Anambra population. History should serve as a guide. For the past seven years, Anambra has been a case study on lessons learned and hugely missed opportunities. The only apt word for defining governance in Anambra since 2014, is “mistake”.

The choice in 2014, has been affirmed as utterly mistaken. The incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano wrote his own testimonial. The governance scorecard is most unflattering. The decision to keep him in office in 2017 after the first dismal four years was consequential, negatively speaking. It was a factor of a blinkered choice foisted and fostered by traditional emotionalism. Anambra is worse off for it. While the incumbent will bear the historical burden, vicarious responsibility goes to the supporting cast from all sectors.

Since 2014 good governance has eluded Anambra State, despite cosmetic approaches, sloganeering and governance by billboard and media hype. The concrete results are less tangible and less evident, both in-terms of soft power dividends and hard power accruals. Even the touted security sector has suffered evident severe reverse.

Now for Anambra, another opportunity beckons.

Of the contesting lot, just one person will elected. If the choice is left entirely left to Anambra people, it ought not to be a hard sell or difficult choice. Anambra needs a focus, disciplined, down to earth administrator to guide her henceforth. That person, should not be concerned about politicking, but about good governance, period.

The reality is that Anambra stands broken – in infrastructure, governance, as well as morally and fiscally. The state needs to be fixed, very badly, considering that the governance record of ruling APGA party and incumbent Governor Willie Obiano has been nothing but abysmal. This view is bereft of sentiments and partisan fervor. One must call a spade a spade. Already, erstwhile supporters of the APGA regime are jumping ship or recusing themselves, lest they become guilty by association.

Of all those qualified candidates who hold party governorship tickets, only one person, Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag-bearer is eminently qualified on all accounts to lead Anambra going forward. The underpinning qualifier, is not just the credentials, it is a mix of experience, credentials, personality, global worldview and the ability to effectively run the state as an enterprise based on global best practices.

For her inscrutable candidate, APC’s record at the Centre is an albatross. Such record will not sell at Nkwo Nnewi, Onitsha or Eke Akwa. It won’t even sell in Chris Ngige’s hood of Allor and Nnobi. Anambra is not an APC State. It has never been and will not be going forward. A Supreme Court reprise of its affront in Imo, is not possible here.

The ruling APGA’s poor governance record rules her out. No one rewards poor leadership. Regardless of who is her eventual candidate, APGA is toast.

Moreover, Prof. Charles Soludo, who seeks the Anambra mandate under APGA, must now deal with the inconvenient truth; when Anambra was going down the road to perdition and prebendal abyss under Obiano in 2017, rather than speak truth to power and to the Anambra people, Soludu engaged in self-serving obfuscation, by claiming that “IF IT AINT BROKEN, WHY FIX IT.” So if Anambra is not broke and broken, rotten, filthy, decrepit deeply indebted and underdeveloped, what is Soludo coming to solve and why does the state need his solution?

The other parties and their hopping, knee-jerk and forum shopping candidates are in the race only to fill up the rest of the racecourse track. Most of the parties are minor leaguers bereft of grassroots support base or fans, albeit with deep pocket maverick candidates. Try as they may, no one will entrust Anambra to another egocentric persona.

Anambra is a hub begging for good governance. The material, human capital, revenue and fiscal resources required to effectively run the state exist, despite its having been recklessly dragged into a debt peonage. What is needed, is a transformative, adaptive, purposeful and caring leader.

From a policy and governance perspective, Valentine Chineto Ozigbo (VCO) of PDP offers the best possible platform and grand strategy for rejuvenating Anambra and setting her on the part of sustainable development.

From the hard copy and televised defense of his Manifesto, it can be gleaned that Ozigbo is on his marks, set and ready to hit the ground running, in governing Anambra. Indeed, a glimpse into his mindset and template of the policies and programmes he plans to execute in his first 100 days is quite revelatory.

With Valentine C. Ozigbo, Anambra and her progressive future and development will become fungible as well as inextricable. And that is why I have endorsed Ozigbo for Governor. The campaign and race for Agu Awka 2021 is that simple.

“We promised a robust campaign based on the issues affecting the people of Anambra. Other heavyweights named to the Council are the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe; immediate past Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi; PDP BoT member, Senator Ben Ndi Obi; former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu; a former Health Minister, Professor ABC Nwosu; PDP BoT member and a former Women Affairs Minister, Senator Josephine Anenih; the Vice Chairman of the PDP (South East), Chief Ali Odefa; a PDP National Executive Committee member, Chief Barrister Okey Muo-Aroh; a former Aviation Minister and former Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland, Dr Kema Chikwe; Minority leader in the House of Representatives, Hon Ndudi Elumelu; and Hon Boma Goodhead; among others.

He expressed confidence in the leadership of Governors Ikpeazu and Okowa and their capacity to deliver on the party’s expectations.

The respected business leader commended the national leadership of the PDP for putting together such an impressive team to support his campaign and promised to put in his best to make the party and Ndi Anambra proud.

“I am thrilled at the announcement of the Anambra State National Campaign Council by my party, the PDP,” Ozigbo told journalists from his Udoka Estate campaign office soon after the list was made public on Wednesday.

“I am confident in the leadership, capacities, and competencies of His Excellencies, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State to inspire and empower the team to win the November election.

“I consider it an honour and privilege to have such dignified men and women of our great party come together to help actualise our Ka Anambra Chawapu vision for the people of Anambra.

“I thank and commend our party’s national leadership for their vision and foresight. I also commend and thank all the PDP governors for all they have done and will do to make sure that the dreams and yearnings of the people of Anambra for a credible governor and change in fortunes comes to pass. May God bless them all,” Ozigbo, who is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, said.

The PDP also named notable Anambra politicians like Senators Uche Ekwunife, who serves as the Chairperson of the State Campaign Council, and Stella Oduah to the Council. Members of the House of Representatives from Anambra State, Hon. Chukwuka Onyeama, Hon Chris Azubogu, Hon Lynda Ikpeazu, Hon Vincent Ofumelu, Hon Chinedu Onwuaso and Hon Obinna Chidoka were named to the Council along with the party’s 2021 guber aspirants.

  • Ozigbo, Gov Emmanuel, Dangote, others receive awards of excellence as Salvation Army marks 100th anniversary

Ozigbo, Gov Emmanuel, Dangote, others receive awards of excellence as Salvation Army marks 100th anniversary

Valentine Ozigbo, the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, on Saturday, June 19, 2021, received the prestigious award of excellence from the Salvation Army Nigeria to recognise his selfless humanitarian services and charity.

The award ceremony, held at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos, is one of the events marking the centenary anniversary of the Salvation Army Nigeria.

Ozigbo was honoured alongside several other distinguished personalities, including His Excellency Udom Emmanuel, Executive Governor Akwa Ibom State; Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President Dangote Group; His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State; Mr Raj Gupta, Chairman African Industries Group; Pastor Poju Oyemade, Senior Pastor, Covenant Christian Church; and Chief Allen Onyema, Chairman, Air Peace Airlines.

The Salvation Army is a Christian denomination and an international charitable organisation. The organisation reports a worldwide membership of over 1.7 million, consisting of soldiers, officers and adherents collectively known as Salvationists.

In his welcome speech, the host, Colonel Victor Leslie, thanked all the distinguished guests who made out time to come and rejoice with the church as they mark the most remarkable milestone of their existence.

“It is a memorable day in our lives and that of our church, marking 100 years of our existence as God’s messengers on earth,” Colonel Victor said.

“Here in Nigeria, our organisation has been very instrumental in responding to the needs of the people at certain critical times.

“Our various charity projects have also brought us close to many good spirited individuals who have dedicated their lives as well to serving humanity, giving aids, and rescuing the less privileged.

“We could not think of a better day to appreciate these persons and their good works, hence the award we are presenting to them today. We can only praise them and encourage them by these awards, but God in his infinite goodness and mercy will bless and reward them abundantly,” Colonel Victor prayed.

While receiving his award, Mr Ozigbo, the Founder of the eponymously named Valentine Chineto Ozigbo (VCO) Foundation, expressed his pride and delight for being deemed worthy of the recognition. He revealed that the work of his non-profit charity had become something that he lives for.

Ozigbo, a respected community leader and business mogul, also used the opportunity to recount the many positive impacts that God has used the Salvation Army to make possible, especially in Nigeria. He applauded the organisation for its remarkable response at different times.

“This is not the first time I am receiving an award of this nature. However, this one is very close to my heart, especially since it mirrors the core reason of my existence and my deepest passion,” Ozigbo said

“My foundation, the VCO Foundation, was established to cater for the needs of the youths, women and the less privileged in the society.

“Through the foundation, we have raised people from their hopeless and challenging backgrounds, allowing them to maximise their potentials and achieve their goals,” the respected business mogul said.

Ozigbo, who is the frontrunner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial elections, dedicated the award to his wife, Mrs Ojiugo Ozigbo, who accompanied him to the ceremony, his family, and all people of goodwill.

  • Valentine Ozigbo: The Joshua That Will Take Anambra to The Promised Land

Valentine Ozigbo: The Joshua That Will Take Anambra to The Promised Land

If a man’s heart and (capabilities) were to be known by the construction of his face, then a lot of people would likely not reckon with Mr Valentine Ozigbo, immediate past President/Chief Executive Officer of the country’s humongous Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp).

But a closer look by the discerning would however reveal a deep thinker, an innovator and a man determined to change his environment.

Ozigbo easily takes after Peter Obi in looks. Many misjudged Obi upon his arrival to the Anambra scene about 18 years ago, given his “innocent” looks. What followed is however history as Obi went on to set many records, all positive.

Ozigbo has a rich history, transforming Nigeria’s foremost hotel, Transcorp Hilton Abuja into what it is today, and subsequently, moving on to Transcorp to completely transform Nigeria’s leading conglomerate. Before then, he had achieved a lot of incredible feats in his 17 years in banking. His accomplishments go even beyond this as he has led and continued to lead a number of innovative projects like freestyle football championship, where he is the biggest promoter in Africa, Unusual Praise and Unusual Entrepreneur, which he has been a key member of the leadership since 2018, among many.

Ozigbo’s trail blazing feats at Transcorp will however quickly disabuse the minds of doubters as to the sterner stuff he’s made of.

It was where he finally announced himself by transforming the outfit and making it one with the highest number of shareholders in Nigeria (close to 300, 000).

By so doing, he became one of the most decorated men in corporate Nigeria, with a trail of many awards across Africa, Europe and other continents.

Ozigbo’s feats and presence are not confined to national, continental and intercontinental levels. He has an equally appreciable impact at home in his native Amesi in Anambra State where it all began. A typical home boy, he’s always identified with his roots, impacting on widows, the less privileged and youths.

Hear him, “Everyone knows that when the grace of God started to shine on me mightily in my career progression, I never forgot Anambra,. I always came back to give back in my little ways. They know people who have benefitted from my leadership trainings, my youth empowerment schemes, my scholarship programmes, my support for widows, the Church, the community, my talent hunt competitions and carnivals, where I used to bring thousands of youths together.”

Ozigbo did those things out of his own volition, drawing from his awareness that the greatest investment is in people.

Ozigbo is a man who continually thinks outside the box, a man of ideas and innovation. Such has seen him sponsoring such talent hunt competitions like the Oja and Mbem; the Ogene and Mbejiriego Mmanwu Festival, as well as Unusual Praise.

He is also behind the Freestyle Football, an innovative brand of soccer targeted at the grassroots, which is beginning to make waves across the continent.

Ozigbo is also a man imbued with focus, vision and determination. Once he sets his sights on a goal, he pursues it with a single mindedness that ultimately yields the desired result.

One such example was his decision to leave his comfort zone at Transcorp to enter the gubernatorial race for the governorship of Anambra State. It was a decision that shocked many, given the unpredictability of Nigeria’s politics.

However, like he did at Transcorp, Ozigbo is equally determined to replicate it in politics for the benefit of his people.

He is doing so on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.

Having already led the way by covering 17 out of the 21 local government areas of Anambra, even before the first whistle, Ozigbo is confident that if party primaries were to be held today, he would clinch his party’s sole ticket.

“If today primaries are held in Anambra, I will emerge the Candidate of the PDP, without even doing much yet. I think the people have the confidence that if there is anyone that will take them to the new reality, they will see such in me,” he says. Such typifies the kind of supreme confidence of born winners.

All he asks is for people who do not know him to hear his story from those who do.

There is nothing brash about Ozigbo. He is humble to a fault, unassuming, respectful, yet confident.

He also represents a new dawn and comes across as a breath of fresh air at a time Nigeria, nay, Anambra, needs such characters.

Hear him again: “I think the people have the confidence that if there is anyone that will take them to the new reality, they will see such in me.”

Ozigbo is under no illusions about the toughness of the battle ahead but he and his troops are preparing themselves to compete favourably with the best from any part of the world, not least in Anambra.

Having conquered the corporate world, Ozigbo is ready to conquer politics, beginning from his home state.

He will no doubt be telling himself and those around him that once a winner, he will always be a winner.

    Anambra, welcome your JOSHUA!
