*Omo-Agege tasks Delta APC faithful on unity, commitment to party*

Immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has tasked the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and faithful in Delta State to show commitment to the party by working to eschew rancour and unify the party ahead of 2027 general elections.

Omo-Agege who is the Obarisi of Urhoboland stated this at Ovu-Orhie, Ethiope East Local Government Area, during an enlarged meeting of leaders and stakeholders of APC drawn from all the 11 wards.

The Delta APC leader who was the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections also enjoined all well-meaning party members, particularly in Ethiope Federal Constituency, to close ranks and shun divisive tendencies for the development and the greater good of the constituency and the party at large.

Omo-Agege stated that unlike some leaders of the party who after an election would not be seen again until another elections cycle, he has come to interact with them on the way forward, by looking at areas where the party fared poorly in the last election and how to improve on such lapses to ensure a better outcome in 2027.

While commending the feat recorded by the party in the last election, Omo-Agege said: “After an election, we needed to seat down and evaluate our performance, analyse where we didn’t do well and how to prevent such shortcomings in future elections.

“Though, we didn’t win the governorship as expected, not because we lacked the capacity, but for some internal sabotage by some of the party leaders, we lost.

However, for the first time we won two senatoral seats, one House of Representatives. Today, it has become two and seven House of Assembly seats. No opposition party has been able to achieve this feat since 1999 in Delta State.

“What is a ahead of us going into 2027 is to build a united party that is strong enough to uproot PDP and its years of unproductive governace in Delta and with the recent defection of our real lioness of the Niger Delta, Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, member representing Ethiope East/Ethiope West Constituency, Federal House of Representatives and Chairman, House Committee on NDDC and some top PDP leaders, APC is well positioned to sweep Ethiope Federal constituency and Delta in 2027.”

Also speaking, Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu tasked party leaders to show their commitment to APC by investing in the growth and development of the party to position it as a strong force to win elections.

Ibori-Suenu, who is also addressed as real lioness of the Niger Delta, noted that what qualifies anyone as a leader of a party is the level of financial and material investment in the party, charging those claiming to be leaders to live up to expectations.

According to her, “A leader of a party is not the one who will want to divert funds brought for elections purposes, but someone who go beyond what was provided by the party to add his own and ensure that the party wins.

“So, going forward let’s work together, showing commitment to the ideas of the party. When we work collectively, with leaders investing their time and resources, PDP’s days are numbered in Delta.”

Prominent leaders of the party at the meeting include: the acting APC state chairman, Chief Francis Obigbor, Chief Mrs. Judith Emuobonuvie Enamuotor, Chief Francis Atanomeyovwi, Federal Commissioner, National Assembly Service Commission, Mrs. Blessing Brume-Ataguba, Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission.

Others are Hon.Efe Ofobruku, Hon. Oharisi Eric, Hon. Oshevire Joseph,
Hon. Chief Ivwurie Evans, Chief Kent Akigho, Chief Christopher Ominimini, Hon. Innocent Anidi and Mrs. Hopelyn Ayo.

  • NRM Deputy National Chairman discloses why he left party

Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the Deputy National Chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) says he left the party because it lacked internal democracy.

Usman, who resigned his membership of the NRM on Wednesday, told newsmen in Abuja that he left because he was not happy with the situation at the party.

“Taking you back along memory lane, NRM was formed and got registered in 2018.

“I was one of the founding members, that were more than 50 in number, but as of recent, only three of us were still in the party all the rest have gone, maybe because of the way the party is being run.

Nigerians react to distribution of fuel as souvenir at party

Nigerians have reacted to the Federal Fire Service, FFS, who said that the act of distributing fuel as sourvenir at a party is highly condemnable.

The FFS on Twitter said, “how on earth will someone use an inflammable liquid like petrol as souvenir?, thereby endangering the lives of those at that event. This act is highly condemnable.”

According to Ahmad Salisu, “are you talking about safety? Where were you when fuel station and gas station were build within a residence area without proper fire alarms, extinguisher, sand and even blanket?”

Adenrele Babatunde noted that, “it is not within their jurisdiction that fuel station or gas station are built around residential areas. The problem is from state govts granting approval of such. Then greed of owners of such buildings because of money they sold houses that’s been erected for years to highest bidder.”

However, Ejiofor Onyishi, asserted that, “the person has forgotten to consider the danger involved in his actions because of fuel scarcity within that period in a country that have crude oil but can’t fix any of their refineries bc of corruption, leadership failure is the problem of Nigeria, get your PVC enough is enough.”

Kamsy Okoye, opined that “this is as a result of the laxity in your system. Not coming on Twitter ranting. Your impact is rarely felt when it comes to safety concerns. Fix your system and empower your staff.”

Mbonu Patrick, on his part, stated: “What is the difference between keeping fuel at home and serving it as souvenir. Until the right things are done, this question will still come up in 20 years from today.”

Recall that the host of the Lagos party where fuel was distributed as souvenir, Pearl Chidinma Ogbolu, had explained that she only wanted to show appreciation to guests who turned up for her chieftaincy installation ceremony, despite the hard times caused by fuel scarcity.

Taking to her Instagram account on Saturday where she shared a statement, she also apologized for her action which she described as ‘momentary indiscretion.

Ogbolu wrote: “I want to use this medium to apologize for the momentary indiscretion of bringing fuel souvernirs into the hall.

“My intent was just to show appreciation to my guests for turning up at my event at these hard times.

“I have paused to reflect and truly apologize and I thank you all for your understanding and criticisms.”

The state government, in a reaction on Saturday, through the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the development will be investigated.

He pointed out that having jerrycans of petrol as souvenirs is a dangerous development which contradicts safety standards and is capable of causing harm to lives and property.

Omotoso added that the safety of the people of Lagos remains a top priority to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

APC youth stakeholders protest over fear of imposition of member

A group known as All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Stakeholders, on Friday, besieged the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja, as they protested against the imposition of any aspirant.

The party had fixed March 26 as date for its national convention.

The protest at the secretariat followed the report in the media that President Muhammadu Buhari has a preference for Senator Abdullahi Adamu to become the national chairman of the ruling party.

The co-convener of the protesting group, Yunusa Yusuf while addressing journalists said the President, being a democrat, would not impose anyone on the party.

He said: “We are saying that the party should not impose any candidate on the people. Party members and the delegates should be allowed to choose who will lead them at the national level.

Yusuf noted that the mistakes that were made in the past must be corrected by the March 26 convention.

He added. “We have recommended that all party stakeholders be allowed to make their input, should be allowed to say what they want; who would lead them; how, when, where and that is what we have settled for and that is why we are here today.”

The stakeholders insisted that as far as they are concerned, the President has not endorsed anybody until he comes out to say that.

They said they believe the President would allow the party members to express themselves because that was the process that brought him as President.

Sagay reveals why APC allegedly want ex-president Jonathan

Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay, on Sunday, revealed reasons why former President Goodluck is allegedly being pressured to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

PACAC Chairman explained that those trying to bring Jonathan to join APC want him to serve as President for one term and then hand over to Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.

Governor Buni is the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).

“Now we are hearing from the sides, former president, Goodluck Jonathan wants to join APC. Why would a man who had been president before denigrate himself to that level?

“I hear that the conspiracy is to bring in Jonathan as APC presidential candidate and Buni as the vice-presidential candidate.

“If APC wins, Jonathan will go away after four years and Buni becomes the president. That is the rumour I’m hearing now,” Sagay said.
