Pastor Adeboye reveals an unforgettable meal he ate

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has revealed an unforgettable meal that he ate in his village home of Ilesha in Osun State.

Speaking on Sunday on the topic: This Unforgettable Meal, being the 70th series on the theme: Going Higher, with text taken from 1st Kings chapter 19 from verse 19 to verse 21, Pastor Adeboye narrated how he was eating pounded yam when he was informed of the death of Pastor Josiah Oluwafemi Akindayomi.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Pastor Akindayomi is the Founder and General Superintendent of the RCCG, founded in 1952 through a vision God showed to the late founder of the mission.

Adeboye, fondly referred to as Daddy GO, stressed that immediately after he was informed of the death of Pa Akindayomi during the meal, he knew all his plans of becoming the youngest Vice Chancellor (VC) in Africa were over.

“How can I ever forget the meal I was eating as I sat in my little house in Ilesha in those days? I have come to visit my mum and I was eating pounded yam and then I heard a car stop in front of the house.

“And I said who could that be because nobody was supposed to know I was there. And then the door opened and Pastor Mulero came in. And I said what’s wrong? He said finish your food. And I said it’s Papa, is it not? He said yes, papa passed away last night.

“And I knew immediately that all my plans of becoming the youngest Vice Chancellor in Africa were over. That was the beginning of becoming a full-time pastor. I can’t forget that food. I didn’t finish it. The morsel that was in my hand came back into the plate,” Pastor Adeboye recounted.

TNG reports that the RCCG GO, who used to be a lecturer of Mathematics at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) before he resigned to become a full-time pastor, has again and again spoken about his dream earlier in life to become the youngest university VC in not just Nigeria, but the whole of Africa. According to him, becoming the youngest university boss was his goal in life, until 1973 when everything changed totally.

Recall that in the early 1970s, Adeboye was already married to Pastor Mrs Foluke Adeboye (nee Adeyokunnu). He and his wife faced the challenge of having children. They had two children through caesarean section and the doctors had advised them against having more. But the couple desperately wanted more children and they embarked on a spiritual journey to seek a solution. This brought them to the RCCG in the year 1973 which was then headed by Pastor Akindayomi.

In one of his sermons, speaking on the power needed to fulfil one’s destiny in life, Pastor Adeboye said: “I thought I would be the youngest Vice Chancellor in Africa. That was my goal. But somewhere along the line, I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 1973. And before the end of that year, I got baptized in the Holy Spirit”.

Upon being called into the ministry, his initial duty at the church at that time was to translate Pastor Akindayomi’s sermons from his native Yoruba language into the English language as an interpreter. As time went by, Adeboye began organizing Bible Study meetings, Crusades, Revivals, Outreaches and the evangelistic programs known as the Holy Ghost Congress, which proved to be very successful.

Pastor Akindayomi was so impressed by the young Adeboye that he decided that he was the man that would succeed him. In 1981, Pastor Akindayomi died and Adeboye took over the mantle of leadership as the church’s General Overseer based on an instruction left by Akindayomi prior to his death.

“After Pa Akindayomi’s death at age 71, I took over as the General Overseer of RCCG in the year 1981, not by merit but by divine appointment which had already been revealed to Pa Akindayomi before his death. Although there were several controversies after I assumed office, my appointment was formalized by the reading of Pa Akindayomi’s sealed pronouncement after his burial,” Pastor Adeboye had said.

As the new leader of the RCCG, Adeboye worked hard to expand the church’s outreach and in recent times, the church has branches in as many as 179 countries in the world. Pastor Adeboye is today considered to be one of the most influential pastors in Nigeria and one of the richest pastors in the world.

TNG reports that Pastor Adeboye studied at Ilesha Grammar School, Ilesha, Osun State, Western Nigeria in 1956. It was at this time that he discovered his passion for science and mathematics in particular. After his primary and secondary education, he pursued tertiary education and obtained a Bachelor’s (BSc.) degree in Mathematics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria in 1967.

He also got a Masters (MSc.) Degree in Hydrodynamics and a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Applied Mathematics, both from the University of Lagos, in 1969 and 1975 respectively.

The octogenarian preacher stated this on Saturday during the Holy Ghost Service of the 70th Annual Convention of the church which was held at RCCG International Headquarters situated along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The programme, with the theme, “Perfect Jubilee,” began on Monday, August 8 and will end on Sunday, August 14, 2022.

While noting that he would have had 12 biological children, Adeboye said he could not have himself biologically, he had through thousands of his church members whom he tagged his “spiritual children”.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that when Adeboye asked church members who had their babies in the last one year to come out, a large number of parents danced forward with their babies to the altar areas both in the new and old auditoriums of the church.

The former Mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos and University of Ilorin said the RCCG is “a mission where God multiplies and very soon, there will be nothing called barrenness in our midst”.

“See the homes where there used to be sorrow but now there is joy. I love children because my father in heaven loves them. If I had my way, I would have had 12 of my own but what I couldn’t have biologically, I can now have,” Adeboye said as he received the women and their babies.

He added that God asked him to name what he wanted for this year’s convention of the church and he asked for babies. He said God promised him 110,000 babies for waiting couples.

While speaking on the influx of worshippers at this year’s convention, Adeboye said the church would build more dormitories before next year to accommodate the overflow.

Reacting to the shock news of his son’s death last year, Adeboye said God carried him when he was in the saddest period of his life in May 2021 after the death of his 42-year-old son, Dare.

He said, “Some of you have heard this before: when I was in the saddest period of my life, with so many questions and I know that even in my deep sorrow some people were still laughing at me, I got a text from one of my daughters.

“All she said was: ‘Daddy, let God carry you’. And that put an end to any problem; it ended my sorrows. It renewed my faith.”

Dare, the third child of 80-year-old Adeboye, died on May 4, 2021 in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was based with his family. Married to Temiloluwa, the deceased was the Assistant Pastor in charge of Region (Youth) 35 before his death and father to three daughters.

However,  there was massive shake-up in some leadership positions at RCCG, and it was announced on Monday at the Redemption camp.

Self-protection: I never asked Christians to buy guns – Pastor Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) says he never asked Christians to buy guns for self-protection.

“I never asked Christians to go and buy guns. Samson in the Bible did not fight with guns,’’ the renowned cleric said on Sunday at the monthly thanksgiving live television programme of the church.

The clarification came against media reports that the general overseer said it was now “fire-for-fire’’ for any attack on Christians.

“Don’t buy guns. You don’t want to kill anybody. We just must make sure that unwanted visitors don’t come to our churches, so don’t go and buy guns,’’ he said.

At the July Holy Ghost Service, on July 2, Pastor Adeboye had urged members of the church not to be afraid to attend church programmes because of terrorists attack on a church in Owo, Ondo State.

Terrorists attacked Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo, on June 5, killed more than 40 worshippers and injured many others.

Adeboye urged Christians to rise to the occasion and call the bluff of the devil.

  • Christians should defend themselves – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A. Adeboye, has advised  Christians in the country  to defend themselves against attackers.

The cleric made this statement at the July Holy Ghost congress on Saturday while reacting to the high rate of insecurity and incessant attacks on churches  in the country.

Lately, churches in Nigeria have suffered deadly attacks with the recent being Saint Francis Catholic church Massacre in  Owo, Ondo State, where scores were killed and many injured.

Adeboye clarified that the bible doesn’t condemn self -defense.

The cleric said it is now in the hands of the Children of God to defend themselves amidst rising insecurity in Nigeria.

According to him, when God is silent, it simply means it is now the responsibility of his children to act.

“I don’t want to say much because I know some people may want to twist it but I have searched the bible from cover to cover and there is nowhere in the bible where God said a child of God cannot defend himself, If you find the place let me know.

”He said that if they slap you on the right cheek, turn left, He said that one. If they now slap the left, what did he say? When God is silent, do you know the meaning of that, it simply means over to you.”

“I am only talking to my children. Only my children come to the Holy Ghost Service,” he added.

Adeboye also prayed that every enemy of the church will be consumed if they don’t repent.

According to Pastor Adeboye, the postponement followed the killing of a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Deborah Samuel, for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

The state has seen unrest over the arrest of two persons allegedly involved in the killing, forcing the governor Aminu Tambuwal to declare a curfew.

Pastor Adeboye, in a social media post on Monday, urged members of the church to join the crusade virtually.

“Postponed but God turned it around. We Trust In Our God’s Big Picture Plan! When God turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them in that dream.

“We serve a God who specializes in using the impossible situation for His glory,” Pastor Adeboye wrote.

In the wake of the killing, the Christian Association of Nigeria called for a nationwide protest slated for May 22 to demand justice for the slain Sokoto student.

I can’t tell you who to vote but ensure you vote – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Sunday, said he has never voted in elections in the country saying RCCG is large and highly represented in every political party.

Adeboye, made this statement at the Church’s thanksgiving service, he said voting for one will be unjust to the rest of his children who could be up against one other in elections.

He opined that every eligible Nigerian has the right to join any political party of their choice and he would keep praying for them too.

”My assignment has nothing to do with partisan politics. Politics is not my calling but to be a pastor.

”I have never told you this is the fellow you should vote for or the Party you should vote for.

“In RCCG, every party is mainly represented. I’m a father of all and I like it that way. I’m not a politician and I will never be.

”The only reason I have never voted is that if I vote for one I will be unjust to the rest of my children. I am the father of all.

“As a Nigerian, you must register, vote, and make sure that your vote counts. You are a Nigerian first before becoming a Christian. Nobody is born a Christian, you are a true Christian when you give your life to Christ. You must vote and make sure there is no rigging.

”You have a duty to belong to any party of your choice at the very grass root. You can’t sit down fold your hands, refuse to vote and begin to complain about the government,” he said.

  • Osinbajo pays glowing tribute to Adeboye at 80

Osinbajo pays glowing tribute to Adeboye at 80

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and wife, Dolapo, have congratulated Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), on his 80th birthday.

Osinbajo’s birthday message to Adeboye was conveyed in a tribute he personally authored on behalf of his wife, Dolapo, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The vice president said that Adeboye had impacted many lives and overseen unprecedented growth of the church; yet the achievements had not affected his behaviour.

“Dolapo and I are honoured to write this tribute to Daddy on his 80th Birthday.

“Very few leaders will ever have the geographical and spiritual reach of influence that Pastor Adeboye has.

“He is neither the Pope nor the leader of the free world, but he heads a denomination that, since his assumption of office as its General Overseer, has established churches in over 198 countries and territories of the world.

“He was, as early as 2008, listed by Newsweek, as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

“Earlier in 1998, the Holy Ghost Congress of the RCCG in Lekki, Lagos, was reported to be one of the largest Christian gatherings ever, and every year, the RCCG Conventions and

Congresses have live crowds breaking that record. Through the years, miracles of every kind have been commonplace in his ministry.”

According to Osinbajo, the moral of the story is not in these achievements, but in how Adeboye’s behaviour has remained unaffected by them.

“It was Mummy G.O. who said to us once, “see how God uses your father as a smokescreen to do the miracles He wants to do.”

The vice president said that Adeboye realised that apart from God, one could do nothing and that no one could receive anything that was not given to him by God.

“This realisation probably explains why a man so spiritually and intellectually gifted, so revered, so respected by the high and low alike, would still be so genuinely humble, so self-effacing and so unfailingly respectful, even of his subordinates.

“His impeccable integrity, his measured speech and action at all times, his life of many challenges, many wars, his courage, his unshaken faith, his deep love for God, through phenomenal achievements and numbing personal tragedy, are all together the most persuasive evangelical message to all, even those of other faiths, of the grace and mercy of God
in the life of the Saved.

“For us, we are extremely proud that this man of extraordinary faith, courage and humility is one we can call our daddy.

“Daddy, Happy 80th Birthday! As your days, so shall your strength, wisdom and favour with God in Jesus’ name. Amen,” he said.

  • How God used me to save my ex-lover’s crippled son – Pastor Adeboye

How God used me to save my ex-lover’s crippled son – Pastor Adeboye

Pastor E. A. Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has narrated how God used him to heal the son of his ex-girlfriend who was born crippled.

Adeboye, during a sermon in his church, admitted that he lived a rough life while he was still an unbeliever, stressing that he was unable to count his girlfriends.

According to Adeboye, who is one of the most respected Christian clergymen in Nigeria, one of his ex-girlfriends who unfortunately gave birth to a cripple, was shocked to see him as a pastor when she came to church seeking for a spiritual solution to her son’s health crisis.

The clergy stated that though the woman could not believe in his new life, the son was healed after a simple prayer.

He said, “I have shared with you before my testimony that before I became a Christian I was rotten, I mean very rotten. I had everything needed to be rotten. I was a sportsman, I was a cameraman, I also had one or two things.

“I ended up having so many girlfriends I couldn’t remember the number. But there was a particular one that we did everything together, and I have always told you that what we did together is none of your business.

“But after some time she went her way and I went my way. I was transferred to the University of Ilorin and after some time her own husband was transferred to Ilorin, they had given birth to a child that was born lame.

“So when they arrived in Ilorin, I was lecturing in Ilorin and I was also pastoring our small church in Ilorin.

Someone told her that there is a pastor that God is performing miracles through him, take this child to him.
” If he prays for this child the child will walk. She came to the Mission house and she asked for the pastor and they brought her to my office, she opened the door and we greeted and she said “I want to see the Pastor”, I said “Yes! Can I help you?” she said “Yes! I want to see the Pastor”. I said I am the pastor and she said “You are the pastor?” I said yes! She said, “you will pray and God will answer?”.

“We prayed a simple prayer and the child walked. If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away and behold all things have become new. Alpha can take care of your past”.
