My wife demands bribe before sex, says pastor

A 48-year-old pastor, Abayomi Adegboyega, is seeking dissolution of his 16-year-old marriage, alleging that his wife always demands `bribe’ from him before sex.

Adegboyega told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos State on Wednesday to end the marriage on grounds that his wife, Risikat, denied him sex.

“My wife starves me of sex, she will never allow me to sleep with her unless I give her money or buy her a gift,” he said.

He said that he would kill himself if the court would not dissolve the union which produced four children.

“Risikat should never come near me. I do not want to have anything to do with her again.

“She is irritating me. I will kill myself if the loveless marriage is not dissolved,” he told the court.

The petitioner also alleged that his wife cooked his food late and tarnished his image in public.

“My wife wants my ministry to collapse, she defames my character before my members and others; people who want to help me refuse because of what they hear from her,”he said.

He added that Risikat fought his church members.

However, 39-year-old Risikat, denied all the allegations and accused her husband of threatening her life with charms.

“My husband told me that he would use charm to destroy my life; indeed, after few weeks, I was very sick; everywhere my family took me to, they said it was a spiritual attack, the trader alleged.

The mother of four claimed that she never denied Abayomi sex and did not cook his food late.

She also denied fighting her husband or members of his church.

The respondent accused her husband of beating her at the slightest provocation.

She added that Abayomi chased her and the children out of her matrimonial home since nine months ago, without sending money for their upkeep.

“He is just looking for an excuse to dump me. If he wants to marry another wife, he should go ahead instead of making false allegations against me,” she said.

She prayed the court not to dissolve the union, saying that she still loved him in spite of his misbehaviour.

The President of the court, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, urged both parties to maintain the peace and forgive each other for the sake of their children.

He adjourned the case till July 11 for judgment

Mr Ejike Orji, the Prosecuting Counsel averred that the victim had attended Emmabeth Academy, Mpape, ran by the defendant.

  • My wife is destroying my ministry, pastor tells court

A 51-year-old Pastor, Rotimi Michael, has told an Oke-Ogbere Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve his 11- year-old marriage to his wife, Dolapo, alleging that she is destroying his ministry as a cleric.

Michael, resident at Olubonku-Olodo area of Ibadan told the court that his wife had made nonsense of his calling as a minister of God and might end his ministry if he did not end the marriage with her.

“To say the least my lord, I have for too long tolerated Dolapo’s arrogance, disrespect, stubbornness and stone-heartedness to me, probably due to my silence.

`She doesn’t even take instructions from me; instead, Dolapo consults other pastors around.

“Rather than supporting my ministry, she causes pandemonium that leads to crises in the church.

“In fact, Dolapo keeps nagging and I am completely fed-up with her, ‘’ Rotimi said.

The respondent (Dolapo) who consented to the suit could not deny the allegations levelled against her but explained the reasons for her action.

According to the 48 -year-old Prophetess, God had ministered to me that I must marry Pastor Rotimi.

“Rotimi no longer wants to see me because he now knows that my anointing is greater than his.

“Anytime I have a revelation for our congregation in the church, Rotimi, as the church overseer will not want God’s revelation to be shared because he feels that I might be greater than him.

“He prefers to tell lies to the congregation and his attitude is against my calling.

“For two years now, Rotimi has been starving me of sex. This is due to the fact that he has another wife in Lagos State.

“Besides, Rotimi is making desperate moves to terminate my life in another revelation by our son.

“He is currently blackmailing me around that I am a fake prophetess.

“Rotimi lacks any milk of human kindness because he no longer fends for the children and me.

“The land on which his church is built is jointly owned by both of us,’’ Dolapo said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that most of the witnesses called to testify in the matter wanted the marriage to be dissolved for peaceful coexistence.

However, some senior pastors of the church prayed the court to give them a grace of four weeks to intervene for amicable settlement.

The court’s President, Alhaji Suleiman Adeniyi, however, said that he was adjourning the case for the last time because he had done it on several occasions without any remedy.

Adeniyi adjourned the case till March 20 for judgment.

  • Being a Pastor doesn’t stop me from doing secular music – Soul E

Afro-pop singer, Soul E made waves in Nigeria over a decade ago with his velvety voice and his unique sound .

After a stormy breakup with his ex-wife and a strained relationship with his former records label, Colossal Entertainment, the singer relocated to Lesotho to focus on his work as a preacher.

Speaking in a chat with Punch, the singer noted that he has no reason to complain.

“God has blessed me abundantly. I have no reason to complain. God exposed me to people who I never believed I could meet. Working for God opens doors for you. In my church in Lesotho, there are Nigerians, Zimbabweans and South Africans. When God calls a man, he fights his battles and He convinces everyone to follow you. We will be two years-old this month as a ministry. We have almost 300 members. The name of the church is The Evidence Church,” he said.

Asked if he had really quit making secular music, he said being a Pastor doesn’t stop him from recording secular songs.

“My spiritual life is different from my talent. People always think that once you are doing God’s work, everything that comes out of you must be gospel. My new songs will be inspirational and about love. But my spiritual life is more important to me now than my music career.”
