Mob kills Kano Pastor, burns house, church, school

Mobs have reportedly killed a pastor identified as Reverend Yohanna Shuaibu in Massu, a village in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State.

It was gathered that the mobs also burnt down the slain pastor’s house, church and mission school.

It was reported that the incident happened when a young Muslim man who converted to Christianity allegedly killed his brother’s wife during a fight and the mobs suspected that the pastor has hand in the alleged conversion.

A statement by the Hausa Christian Foundation said the incident occurred in the early hours of September 23.

The statement reads: “A few days ago one young man who converted from Islam but has neither been going to Church nor mosque fought with his brother’s wife. In the cause of the fight, he hit her with pestle and she died, the young man surrendered himself to the Mopol that are stationed in the area and was taken to the station for further prosecution.

“The place became so tense as people who heard the position of the Moslems in the area advised the Reverend to leave the area for a safer place because the Moslems felt the young man who killed a woman in a fight is a Christian, sensing that as usual, they may attack the Reverend as the main target especially because of his obvious exploits.”

The pastor, however, left for one of the neighbouring villages called Biri where he stayed for a night, the next day he came back to vacate the school pupils to avoid any eventualities knowing that if the school activities continued, the children can easily be targeted and killed.

“Late Reverend Shuaibu noticed that the tension was doused and he thought he could stay with his family and people, but the Moslems gather their mob, descended on him, macheted him badly and burnt down his house, the church as well as the school in the night. His wife was able to sneak out with the children in the midst of the mob since it was dark already,” the statement further read.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the incident, but said normalcy has since returned to the area.
DSP Haruna said six persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of the pastor and one other who allegedly murdered the lady.
“A peace committee to ensure peaceful coexistence in the area has swung into action and normalcy has returned to the area,” DSP Haruna stated.

  • Borno Church Demolition: Gov Zulum visits pastor whose son was killed, says shooter is in police custody

Borno Church Demolition: Gov Zulum visits pastor whose son was killed, says shooter is in police custody

Borno State governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday night, visited Pastor Bitrus Tumba, whose son, Ezekiel, died when violence broke out between a demolition task force of Borno Geographic Information Systems (BOGIS), and worshipers at a branch of EYN church in Maiduguri on August 5, 2021.

The governor was received by the family and some officials of Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by the association’s chairman, Bishop Mohammed Naga.

Zulum had on the day of the incident sent Borno’s deputy governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, to meet victims of the incident. The governor also invited and met with Christian leaders, led by CAN chairman, Bishop Naga, after which he directed the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and report to him.

Zulum was scheduled to visit Ezekiel’s family on the day of the incident, but had to abort visit to allow the tensed situation to douse.

The governor, instead, sent a private delegation to visit the family on his behalf while he worked behind the scene to calm down situations between religious leaders to prevent potential crisis between youths from different faiths.

At the pastor’s house alongside the deputy governor, Kadafur, Zulum said, “Let me start by apologising for delaying my visit even though I had sent a delegation to explain this to you. We deliberately delayed because of the tension in town. We thought it was not a good time to pay you a visit then. I am here to commiserate with your family over the unfortunate death of our brother, Ezekiel Bitrus. My coming here today, weeks after that very unfortunate and painful incident, is a proof that we have not forgotten the issue.”

“So far, suspects have been quietly arrested and all those involved in that dastardly act are being detained and God’s willing, they will face justice as soon as the Police complete investigation and make appropriate recommendations. We shall do justice to the matter without fear or favour. We share your pains.

“No exercise of government is ever aimed to cause injury let alone the death of any citizen. Every person in Borno has equal rights and we have a duty to protect the rights of all persons, top of which is the security of lives. We are pained by what happened and we condole you and your family.

“Although, I had sent people to you, I was morally and officially duty-bound to visit your family. Please accept our deepest condolences,” Zulum said.

The governor was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Isa Marte Hussaini, and one of his commissioners, who is a Christian.

Responding on his family’s behalf, Pastor Tumba expressed appreciation to the governor for the visit, saying he considered Ezekiel’s death as an act of God and the family has accepted same in good faith.

He added that everyone dies in a different way, and God has destined Ezekiel to die from gunshot which no one could have stopped.

“Whatever we do, we cannot bring the dead back to life; as true Christians, we have accepted it in good faith. Your Excellency, we express our appreciation to you for the visit, I have followed all your efforts on the death of our son, and we show your concern and the fact that you did not forget us, we really appreciate you,” Pastor Tumba said.

  • Wife Snatching: A Pastor’s Moral, Ethical Infraction, By Michael West

Wife Snatching: A Pastor’s Moral, Ethical Infraction, By Michael West

    By Michael West

In what looks like an adultery scandal, the news went viral a couple of weeks ago about one Pastor Moses Adeeyo, General Overseer of Word Bank Assembly, Eneka, Obio/Akpor local council area of Rivers State, who was alleged to have “snatched” one Tina, from her husband who is a member of the church. The matter was made public by the aggrieved former husband of Tina, Bright Ben, through his Facebook account.

Interested and concerned parties in the case have been speaking except the accused clergy who is yet to respond to the allegation. Bright alleged that the Pastor, who had been settling disputes between him and his wife, harboured his wife for months until August 8, 2021 when he saw their wedding photographs social media.

Bright also claimed that he had no quarrel with Tina before she absconded from their home. He then cried foul for losing his wife to his reverred pastor. “It is true life story. My pastor married my wife. I have been married to Mrs. Tina Bright for over 12 years with two kids, a girl and a boy,” he stated.

Tina, her mother, Mrs. Christiana Everest, and younger sister, Elizabeth Okonkwo, were unanimous in debunking Bright’s allegation that Tina absconded from home, saying Pastor Adeeyo did not snatch his wife. In their separate statements, they alleged abuse and domestic violence all through the years the marriage lasted. While Tina claimed that for her, the marriage had been years in captivity, huge debts, fighting, threats to her life, neglect, hunger and maltreatments.

Tina went ahead to exonerate her new husband, Pastor Adeeyo, from Bright’s allegation of snatching her from him. She said she left Bright November 28, 2020 and not a recent happening as Bright was making the public to believe. While her mom claimed that Bright was not lawfully married to her daughter because he didn’t pay her bride price, Tina insisted that while she stayed outside Bright’s home, Pastor Adeeyo was not in the picture at all. But when and how she met and agreed to marry her pastor is still shrouded in mystery though her family stoutly supported her new marriage as evidenced in their presence at the wedding ceremony and according to their statements in the media.

Meanwhile, Adeeyo’s son, has come out to say his dad is still legally married to his mom as they are yet to divorce. But what is glaring is that Adeeyo and his first wife are separated. Still, in all of these, the main player, Adeeyo is yet to speak on the matter.

In view of the issues presented, is the Pastor guilty of adultery or he’s wrong to have engaged in unbecoming attitude of a pastor?

    My take:

Had Adeeyo not been a Christian let alone a Pastor, it would have been a different matter. From the statement of Bright himself, it is obvious that the marriage was turbulent and abusive. For Tina to run for her dear life is in order. Traditionally, since he’s yet to pay the bride price, despite going to the registry, the marriage is illegal and non-existent. That Adeeyo is yet to divorce his first wife before solemnising another one makes him liable to bigamy which is an offence in Nigeria. Being a pastor to the estranged couple, it is morally wrong for him to marry Tina no matter how much he loves her. The Bible insists that men of God must be blameless (1 Timothy 3: 2). On account of that, Pastor Adeeyo’s marriage to Tina is not right as it has violated moral and ethical tenets of his calling as a servant of God.

    The Mystery of Erectile Dysfunction

All through the weekend till now, I have been inundated with hundreds of mails and messages over the issue of erectile dysfunction. Not a few are suffering in silence as a result of weak erection and quick ejaculation problems.

Many respondents requested that I should prescribe food supplements that would help them regain their virility and be able to sustain erection for long. As much as I wish to volunteer such information or prescription, the need to do some background checks on the medical history of the concerned men is key. No matter how potent a drug or supplement is, it may not work on anyone that has certain underlying health condition that has direct adverse effects on his sexual performance.

Take for instance, high blood pressure is capable of rendering a man inactive in the bedroom regardless of aphrodisiacs the person may use. Ditto diabetic patients and those with acute or chronic stress condition. These health conditions have a lot to do with the sufferers’ sexual performances. Unless the ailments are first treated and brought under control, using food supplements or any other aphrodisiac products would be of very little help or no help at all. Remember that sex enhancement pills are meant to facilitate blood streaming into the penile track to gain erection and sustainable turgidity throughout the time sexual activities would last.

The side effects of using sex enhancement pills to achieve satisfactory moments during sexual intimacy could be devastating and lethal. There had been reported cases of cardiac arrests, palpitations and seizures in the course of sexual activities due to the reactions of sex drugs on men. Therefore, I declined to recommend food supplements to those requesting for such unless I know their true health statuses.

Apart from the aforementioned, those battling with infections are many. The condition becomes worse when sexually transmitted infections, STIs, stay longer in the body or when the infections are not well treated. The infections will hide in the body system to further wreak havoc on the carrier. Prevention, they say, is better than cure. It is much safer to stay faithful to one’s partner than risk your health through philandering.

The third phase is that weak erection could be hereditary. This has little or nothing to do with age or health condition. I’m not aware of any contradictory scientific proof to this opinion because there’s a possibility that just as high blood pressure (hypertension) and some blood diseases are hereditary, for those having erectile dysfunction in their genes, at certain age, it would surface. It requires early attention and profound treatment to improve the situation in such men. Inability to sustain erection before and throughout sexual intimacy is a major cause of anxiety and loss of confidence in any man.

There are men who have never used sex enhancement drugs even in their 60s and 70s years of age, yet, they are like “kick-and-start” engine, always on the standby for action. Such men have high libido and firm penile erection at close encounter with the opposite sex. Some of such men I discussed with revealed that it is in their genes.

“My late grandfather was an herbalist who was versed in the use of herbs. I knew him before he died 30 years ago and he personally prepared some herbs which were cooked as spices in soups and we licked the soups. He had tincture and boiled herbs in mud pots that he gave to every male child in the family including my dad and his siblings. I remember the old man saying none of you will experience “failure in your duty to your wife in the bedroom. No woman will forsake you because of unsatisfactory sexual intimacy. It is a taboo in my lineage. Till you guys will bow out of this planet, no man will run your race for you.” He was not praying for us but assuring us that it was the heritage of his father’s household as a renowned traditional healer and herbal medicine specialist. My dad knew the formula but I regretted not writing the details down in my diary. None of us have an idea of the herbs. To my amazement, my two boys are “top strikers” in their homes. The same story was said by my cousins’ wives. I guess the thing is already in our bloodline. So, I do wonder when 30 something years old young men are complaining of erectile dysfunction. Some of my age mates will consume different kinds of stuff in readiness for sexual intimacy. Thanks to my grandfather for this invaluable fortification.”

SAD! Gunmen kill RCCG Pastor on pulpit

A Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Bolanle Ibrahim has been murdered by suspected assailants in his church at the Mile 12 area of Lagos State. The deceased, who was an assistant pastor at the King of Kings parish of the Church, at Maidan village, was said to be praying for mothers and their children during their child dedication when the suspected assailants invaded the church.

It was gathered that the gunmen went into the church during the service, tried to drag Ibrahim out, but another senior pastor in the church approached them and demanded what they wanted from him. The deceased aunt, Mrs. Justina Alebiosu said when the senior pastor was asking the assailants who they were; they hit him with the butt of their gun in his mouth.

Alebiosu said what happened to her brother was a clear case of hired assassination, “even before they killed him, they showed him his picture to identify if he was actually the right person they came for.” She said: “his death was an unfortunate one, we have lost a gentleman, it was true we were born as Muslims, but we converted to Christianity. My thinking is that my brother had busi-ness transaction with someone.

“I was told when the assailants wanted to drag him out of the pulpit where he was praying for women who brought their children for dedication, he begged them to kill him there and that was where he was eventually killed by the gunmen.” She added that, “the assailants also threatened to shoot any of the members of the church who dare come close to them.

“We still have an aged mother, and his wife just gave birth, his children are still young. I am appealing to the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu to release his remains for us to bury, presently we are all down morally, because of his sudden death.” The distraught wife of the deceased, Mrs. Kudirat Ibrahim said on the fateful day her husband was killed, he was fasting. She said for the period they courted she never suspected her husband to be a cultist, wondering where people heard that he was a cult member, “what they are saying about him are blatant lies, my late husband was a man of God and he served him to his death.

“I wasn’t at home on the fateful day of the incident, I went to take care of my sick mother at the hospital, I had no premonition about his death, after the deed was done, nobody called to inform me. “I never knew my husband had been killed, I was still busy calling him to bring something for me from home, not knowing that he had already been killed, whenever I called him the person who is picking his call kept telling me my husband is preaching, it was later around 7pm that my elder brother came to break the news to me about the gruesome murder of my beloved husband.”

The grieving aged mother of the deceased, Mrs. Agnes Ogunowo who spoke with New Telegraph said the gunmen have taken away her son and her friend from her. Ogunowo said they bid each bye when they were going to church on the fateful Sunday.

“I am a member of Catholic, but he attends Redeemed Christian Church of God and he was the assistant pastor of the Church, I still don’t understand why they killed my son. He was an easy going person. “My son has a new baby we are yet to take to church for dedication, now my son is no more. I want to appeal to the police to get involved in my son’s death, arrest and prosecute them.

I want God to expose those behind it, I cannot bear his death.”

  • I have right to sack unprofitable pastors – Oyedepo

I have right to sack unprofitable pastors – Oyedepo

President, Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo blew hot on Sunday as he said he has right to sack pastors who are sick and unprofitable, warning critics to face their jobs.

Oyedepo, during a service at Faith Tabernacle, Ota, Ogun State justified the sack of some pastors in his church, saying that even in the secular, workers who are not profitable are always sacked.

“Rural Church is going on. All the offerings from rural Churches for the next 40 years cannot build what they are building for them because I learnt some fellows were saying that, “It is because they don’t have offering that is why they said they should go.”

“It is because you are sick, you are unproductive, you will be plucked out. We sent you to go to the villages to reach out to minimum of 12 souls in a week and ensure that minimum 6 of them come to Church. Then 6 months, you don’t have 10. You are unprofitable, you shouldn’t survive.

“Sound management brought us here Sir. Keeping unprofitable servants makes you a poor manager. Businessmen hear me now: keeping unprofitable servants makes you a poor manager. You have a right to resign, we have the right to sack you. It is a system, it works like that everywhere,” he stated in a post by Church Gist.

Oyedepo also spoke on the church’s ongoing 100,000 capacity auditorium, warning critics to stay clear as the church was not using their money to build the massive edifice.

According to him, “We are building 100,000 seat auditorium; did they collect money from you? ‘They should have built a factory’: who told you? Do you budget for somebody’s resources? Keep quiet my friend and face your job.

“They enjoy hearing from me, so I like speaking to them. Even UK government agree that our Churches are one of the best run charity in UK. Well, God is faithful.

“That is how your business will be. You will never keep unprofitable stewards in your system. If you have a driver who is always bashing your car, will you retain him? Before he will bash you yourself.”

  • Police arrest pastor after church service for allegedly collecting ransom for kidnappers

Police arrest pastor after church service for allegedly collecting ransom for kidnappers

A 45-year-old pastor, Ndifreke Udo Amos, has been arrested by operatives of the FIB Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT) for allegedly helping a kidnap gang in the abduction of an 80-year-old man, Pa Anthony Ugbuzor Idornigie.

The octogenarian victim was said to be sitting in his house at No 7, Garage Street, Itoki, Lagos on November 14 last year when Amos walked in with a bible in his hand and started preaching to him.

In the middle of Amos’ sermon, another stranger was said to have walked into the compound and claimed to be in search of accommodation. Pa Idornigie was said to have offered him one, but the stranger said he should follow him to collect the amount demanded as rent because he did not have the money on him.

While Pa Idornigie was said to have been reluctant about following the stranger, Pastor Amos allegedly urged him to do so. In the process of following the stranger, however, Pa Idornigie was abducted by some people the police now believe were working in cahoots with the pastor.

Three days later, Pa Idornigie’s abductors were said to have called the family, demanding N20 million as ransom.

The police was said to have become curious about Pa Amos’ involvement in the kidnap saga on realising that a POS account belonging to him was being used by the gang to receive the sums paid in installments as ransom.

FIB-IRT operatives were said to have swung into action immediately they learnt about Pa Idornigie’s plight, rescuing the octogenarian from his abductors and tracing Amos to Agbado/Crossing part of Lagos State where his POS kiosk was situated.

The police source said investigation into the matter revealed that Pastor Amos was a member of the gang with the specific role of going to the houses of would be victims to prepare the ground for their abduction.

Members of Idornigie’s family were said to have paid various installments beginning with N850,000 on November 17, 2020. Other payments made to the gang, according to the police source, include another N850,000, N250,000, N50,000, N50,000, N200,000, N650,000, N350,000 and N150,000.

The last payment of N150,000 to the said account was said to have been made by the police themselves and tagged “payment for ransom” after the matter had been reported by the family; a development said to have made Amos very uncomfortable.

A visit the FIB-IRT operatives made to Amos’ kiosk was said not to have yielded any result as they met Amos’ absence. They were, however, told upon enquiries that Amos was the pastor in charge of a nearby church where a service was going on.

The operatives then joined the congregation for service during which they monitored the suspect and planned how to arrest him without causing a steer or disrupting the service.

They were said to have allowed the service to end before they started following Amos to his house without him suspecting that they were on his trail.

He was eventually picked up in a dramatic manner as he was about to enter his house.

The operatives were said to have stopped him as he was about to get into his compound, flashed their identity cards and told him that he was under arrest. Thereafter, they told him to lead them to his POS kiosk where they recovered some vital documents, including those that were used in transactions involving the kidnapping gang.

Amos was said to have admitted ownership of the account number into which the ransom of N150,000 was paid, and upon interrogation at the Southwest office of FIB-IRT headed by Joel Igbinazaka Ugowe, a Superintendent of Police, he was also said to have confessed that he removed the female attendant at the POS kiosk, and conducted the transaction himself because he feared that the secret deals could become known to the young lady.

Explaining his side of the story to reporters, Amos said: “I am a pastor with The Will of God Gospel Mission church in Agbado/Crossing, a suburb of Lagos State, and my residence is very close to the church.

“I became a pastor in 2015 and I have been with the church since then. I was not on salary, but the General Overseer pays me a monthly stipend as upkeep money and also pays my children’s school fees.

“Rich men and women as well as others who God has blessed in one way or the other also give me money, especially when they are giving testimonies and thanking God for what He did for them.”

Asked why he displayed his account number on his POS kiosk, he said it was so that his customers who had need of it would have access and not for criminal purposes.

He added: “I was riding a commercial motorcycle to augment the upkeep money my General Overseer was giving me.

“In 2019, my General Overseer and founder of the church gave me N300,000 to start a POS business and I started it between September and October.

“I reside very close to my church, so I put a female operator there because I would not be able to do the two works at the same time.”

On the allegation that he sacked the lady attendant at his kiosk because he feared that she could leak his deals with kidnappers, he said: “I did not sack the girl. I only told her that I wanted to manage the POS by myself because from what was happening, I felt she would not be able to manage the problems with the operation of POS.”

He also denied being the one that gave the kidnappers his account number, saying: “Yes, it was my account details that were sent to the victim’s family to pay in the ransom. But I was not the one who sent it and I did not know who sent it.

“I pasted my account details in front of my POS kiosk for easy access by my customers who might have need for it. I did not paste it there for criminal purposes.

“Eight hundred and fifty thousand naira (#850,000) was paid twice through my POS. They had started paying in money when my girl was still operating the POS for me. They were paying bit by bit: N25,000, N50,000, N50,000, N100,000, N200,000 and so on.

“The one of N150,000, I was in the church when she called me and said the customer was in a hurry and asked me whether the money had entered and I said yes I saw an alert with ‘ransom demand’.

“I had to call her back to explain more because I suspected that something was fishy with the tag ‘ransom demand’.

“I later went to the nearest police station to report the strange occurrence. When I got there and reported the matter, the police gave me a sheet to write a statement.

“After writing my statement, they asked me to go home and relax and see it as one of the troubles one usually experiences in that kind of business.

“But to my greatest surprise, on the 24th February, 2021, the same police officer who asked me to go home and relax was the person who came and arrested me.

He took me to the police station and handed me over to plain-clothed operatives who had been there waiting for my arrival at the police station.

“They were very happy to see me, and that was how I was arrested.”

Pastor dies separating fight between couple

The police command in Imo has confirmed the death of a senior Pastor in Owerri, Thompson Onyekwuru, while trying to separate a fight between a couple in the state.

The police confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Mike Abattam.

Abattam said that the incident occurred at Umukoto Nekede in Owerri adding that Onyekwuru was a pastor with the Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the state.

The police said that Onyekwuru, 62, was trying to prevent Obumneke Onyemechileuzo from stabbing his wife, Ogechi Onyemechileuzo, during a fight between the couple, before he was allegedly killed.

Abattam said that the husband, Obumneke, later died of gunshot wound he sustained.

“Following a distress call on 19/7/2021 at about 1400 hours, at the Divisional Police Headquarters Nekede, Owerri, that one Obumneke Onyemechileuzo armed with a kitchen knife was beating his wife, Ogechi Favour Onyemechileuzo.

“When a pastor with the Redeem Christian Church Owerri, Pastor Thompson Onyekwuru, intervened by stopping him from stabbing his wife, the suspect rushed at him, stabbed him on his back and he fell down unconscious.

“On arrival at the scene, the police team saw the suspect seriously beating his wife, threatening to stab her and ran to prevent him from stabbing his wife.

“On sighting the police, he attempted stabbing one of the officers on the neck and he was shot on the leg in self-defence.

“He fell down and was immediately disarmed.

“But the victims and the suspect were rushed to Rosana hospital where the doctor on call referred the victims to Human Race Hospital, where the pastor and the suspect were confirmed dead.

“The woman was admitted in the intensive care unit of the hospital and she is responding to treatment, while the corpses were later deposited at Agbala Mortuary, Agbala,” Abattam said.

The command’s spokesperson said that the exhibit knife was taken to the station, while the Commissioner of Police had ordered a discreet investigation into the case to unravel the cause of the incident.

“The CP also advised the community to maintain peace, be law-abiding and go about their legitimate businesses pending the outcome of the investigation,” he said.

TRENDING: Video of wanted drug baron, Tony Chidi Onwurolu spraying wads of dollars on his pastor

A video has emerged showing a suspected drug baron, Tony Chidi Onwurolu, who was declared wanted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) spraying dollars on a man of God as if it is water.

Recal TheNewsGuru had earlier published a report detailing how Onwurolu was declared wanted for a consignment of 26.15 kilogrammes of heroin with a street value of over N6.5 billion intercepted at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

In the new video, the suspected drug baron could be seen spraying what many believe are millions of dollars on a pastor inside a church.

    WATCH VIDEO:

Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, said in a statement Sunday that the seizure was made at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO) shed of the Lagos airport.

According to him, the illicit drug had arrived in Lagos in 25 parcels from South Africa through an Air Peace Airline flight on June 30.

He said it was, however, detained for screening following reasonable suspicion of the content of the consignment.

“A follow up operation was subsequently carried out the following day, 1st July when narcotic officers of the MMIA command trailed the driver and a clearing agent that were assigned to deliver the consignment.

“Investigation revealed that they were to deliver to the house of a baron, Tony Chidi Onwurolu at No. 132 Lateef Adegboyega Street, off Ago Palace Way by Grandmate bus stop Okota, Lagos.

“During the follow-up operation, Tony Chidi Onwurolu, who obviously mounted a counter-surveillance around his neighbourhood, fled his home before the arrival of the team of operatives who stormed his residence.

“They were, however, able to search his home and recovered a number of documents to establish his true identity,” he said.
