Justin Bieber denies studying to be pastor

Popular Canadian singer, Justin Bieber has denied reports that he is studying to become a pastor at Hillsong church in New York City.

The singer also made it known that he is not a member of the Australia-based church.

A media outlet had reported that the music star was studying to become a minister of the church in the wake of Carl Lentz‘s sacking.

Lentz was dismissed in November 2020 for “moral failures.” The celebrity preacher was said to have confessed to cheating on his wife.

A source had told OK! magazine that the singer hopes to help lead Hillsong after Lentz dismissal.

“Justin doesn’t plan to give up his music career, but he feels there’s a bigger calling out there for him,” the source said.

Debunking the claims, the 26-year-old singer took to his Instagram story on Monday to state that he is a member of ChurchHome, not Hillsong church.

“And btw Hillsong is not my church… For clarity I am a part of Churchome,” he wrote.

Bieber went on to explain in another post that: “Church is not a place. We are the church. We don’t need a building to connect with God. God is with us wherever we are.”

Pastor bags 7 years in prison over N1m fraud

An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, has sentenced one Pastor Odenigbo Theophilus to seven years in prison for defrauding a retiree, Mr Ojo Gbadebo, of the sum of N1 million under false pretence.

Justice Muniru Owolabi found the defendant guilty in a two-hour judgment delivered on Friday in Ibadan.

Owolabi said that the prosecutor had proved the charge of advance fee fraud against the convict beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge said the convict defrauded the retiree under the guise of helping him to invest his N1 million in engine oil business that would yield an interest of N80,000 monthly.

Owolabi said that the convict admitted using the money to offset a loan instead of investing it in the oil business as agreed.

The judge said that the convict failed to pay the retiree neither the interest nor the capital.

He said that the convict betrayed the trust reposed on him by the retiree being a pastor of the Deeper Life Bible Church in Abolongo, Oyo town.

Owolabi, therefore, sentenced the convict to seven years in prison with hard labour and without an option of fine.

Earlier, the convict’s counsel, Mr Ennis Olayinka, had pleaded with the court to be lenient in sentencing his client, saying he was a first offender and the bread winner of his family.

The Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Oyelakin Oyeyemi, urged the court to impose the sentence as contained in the section in which he was charged.

My husband is a womaniser, sleeps with church members at will, pastor’s wife tells court

“My husband is a womaniser, he sleeps with church members,’’ a 49-year-old evangelist, Chinwe Ekwe, told an Igando Customary Court on Monday in Lagos.

Chinwe spoke while responding to a divorce suit filed by her husband, Pastor Paul Ekwe, who had accused her of planning to kill him.

Chinwe said that her husband was molesting women both single and married.

“I care for him both physical and spiritual but he still chose to be flirting around with different women.

“He even brought a married woman home as wife and chased me out of our matrimonial home,’’ she said.

Chinwe said that her husband was defaming her character by telling people that she was planning to kill him.

“What do I stand to gain if I killed the father of my seven children; he is lying against me just because he wanted to marry another woman which he had done.

“My husband is uncaring, I shouldered all his responsibilities but he spends money and buys foodstuffs for his concubines,’’ Chinwe told the court.

The mother of seven daughters said that her husband got the police to arrest her, alleging that she destroyed his church and stole his five million naira.

She begged the court not to grant her husband’s wish for the dissolution of their marriage, pointing out that she still loved him in spite of his adulterous acts.

However, Ekwe has approached the court to terminate the 28-year-old marriage, accusing the wife of planning to kill him.

“My wife is planning to kill me so that she can remarry,” he said.

The petitioner described his wife as stubborn and quarrelsome.

“Our marriage is full of fights and quarrels. Chinwe makes my home uncomfortable for me and my life unbearable.

“She refused to obey my orders but does things in her own way,” he said.

He accused her of turning all their children against him, alleging that she gave one out in marriage without his knowledge.

He pleaded with the court to terminate their marriage that the love he once had for his wife had vanished.

The Court President, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, adjourned the case until Jan. 19 for judgment.

Pastor condemns use of sex toys

Tajan Moltok, the resident pastor of Shepherd House Assembly International in Jos, capital of Plateau state, has condemned the use of sex toys for sexual gratification.

NAN reports that the cleric condemned the act while preaching during the church’s anointing service on Sunday in Jos.

In his sermon titled ‘Understanding the Anointing’, Moltok said the act is a perversion of nature, a sin of lawlessness and degeneration of morality in the society.

The cleric also cautioned children of God not to indulge in such a lifestyle.

“This act reminds God of Sodom and Gomorrah. Masturbation is becoming a lifestyle, people do not have control over their sexual urges. Do not give Satan a chance,” he said.

He said the church must return to God and be sanitised to live aright to his glory. The cleric added that the anointing is what makes the difference in the life of a believer.

“The church must come back to God . You cannot be in church and you are keeping malice with someone for one year. The anointing will give you a forgiving spirit,” he said.

He also said that the children of God needed the anointing because of the wickedness in the world.

Moltok urged the congregation to yearn for God’s anointing as it would renew their strength and empower them to be victorious against their foes.

He also conducted special anointing prayers for protection, wisdom and mercies of the Lord.

  • The kingdom of the pastor – Femi Aribisala

As a young believer at a Lagos church, I was appalled at the cutthroat politics of the church, all revolving around the pastor. After some time, I found it necessary to confront him. I went to see him, as Nathan did David, and sought his counsel.

I told him I was thinking of resigning from my job because my boss had become a big problem. He knocked heads together, stoked up conflicts, and seemed to thrive only when there was a crisis. We could not get things done the way we should. Under the circumstances, would he suggest I resign and look for another job?

The pastor advised me to resign. He said there was no point in my remaining in the office. He was quite confident I would have no difficulty in getting another job.

Then I turned to him and said: “You are the one.” I told him I was not talking about my office but our church. The church was acrimonious and dysfunctional, and he was principally responsible for this.

The pastor was completely taken aback. He listened to me respectfully and promised to make amends. But soon, we were back to square one.

    Anointing

Some weeks later, I embarked for personal reasons on a hundred-day fast. The Lord told me to stop after fifty-five days. During the fast, I was burdened about the church and several things were revealed to me. I decided to share this with the entire church.

As God would have it, I was asked to minister during one of the monthly night vigils, so I mounted the pulpit and told the church everything that had been revealed to me. It was a strange service because the Lord confirmed his word with signs. The anointing at the service was electric. If I merely breathed into the microphone, some of my listeners would fall to the ground. When I decreed healing, God established it.

The Lord had me minister to all those who were there, and he gave me secret details of the lives of every single one of them which I shared with them individually and personally. The very first person was the most dramatic. I stood in front of an elderly man and knew instinctively he was covered in Juju. The Lord asked me to give him the microphone so he can confess to the entire church what he had done and where he had been.

The man confessed that he had been to a Babalawo seeking protection. As a result, he was covered with “protection.” The Lord told me to remove this false covering with my bare hands and warn him never to return to the juju man: “Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.” (Jonah 2:8).

    Uproar

But by the following Sunday, there was uproar in the church. The pastor was in something of a quandary. He had been fully briefed of the miracle service during the night vigil. However, the revelation God gave me was that he was the principal troublemaker in the church. God’s decree was in no uncertain terms. The pastor had to repent or perish.

Rather than accept the rebuke, the pastor opted for a face-saving response. The decision was taken to inform the church that I must have been suffering from demonic possession. A group of people was asked to conduct deliverance on me in an upper room. But when they did, I confounded them by becoming drunk in the spirit.

I was then summoned before a group of church elders who wanted to know why God would choose to talk to a spiritual novice like me.

One of my inquisitors was the very elderly man who the Holy Spirit had revealed was covered in witchcraft during the service. Although he had confessed at the time that he had gone to the witch doctor for protection, he now insisted that I must have also been demonically inspired. He wanted to know how I got his privileged information. “Why,” he asked, “would God talk to a nobody like Femi Aribisala?”

I offered a simple solution: “Let us fast and pray for three days and God will confirm the same things by revelation to others.” The chairman of the elders’ group agreed with my suggestion. It was resolved that we should all fast for three days and see what the Lord would reveal. But someone quickly rushed to the pastor to inform him that it had been decided that we should go on a fast.

Therefore, the pastor crashed the meeting and declared that no one in the church could fast and pray without his permission. I protested that it was a bit strange that a pastor would prevent people in a church from fasting and praying, but he effectively overruled me. The fast was canceled.

    Lepers’ colony

Thereafter, I was treated like a leper in the church. I was serially attacked by the pastor and his allies every so often from the pulpit. My first reaction was to leave the church, but the Holy Spirit prevented me from doing so. Instead, he directed that I must attend every church activity without fail and without exception, including all the mid-week services.

This was most uncomfortable because the attacks did not let up. Someone taking bible study would stop mid-stream and ask the church to pray for Femi Aribisala “so that demons would stop disturbing him.” The Holy Spirit would tell me to get up, go to the aisle, and kneel. Church-members would then stretch out their hand towards me and cast imaginary demons out of me.

This went on until the next monthly vigil. This time, the pastor took no chances; he decided to minister himself. But some thirty minutes into the prayer-meeting, the Spirit of the Lord took control of the daughter of one of his allies. She seemed to be in a sort of a trance, and she started to prophesy.

Seeing who it was, the pastor stopped the proceedings. He handed over the microphone to her and received the shock of his life. The Lord started speaking through the lady and he was rebuking the pastor for all his shenanigans in the church.

When the woman finished, another lady asked for the microphone. She reminded the pastor that she had been in his office that morning at the instance of the Lord to tell him the same things. The Lord had told her that, if care is not taken, very few people in the church would inherit eternal life.

The pastor retrieved the microphone in tears. He pleaded with us to forgive him and promised to make amends. He said again and again: “You won’t go to heaven without me.” It sounded like he would not allow us to go without him. How, I wondered, was he going to stop us?

However, by the very next Sunday service a day later, the pastor had changed his mind once again. He came to church this time in full regalia, which was rather unusual. He had on the cloak, the cap, the whole nine yards of the pastorate.

“Nobody,” he declared, “is going to take this church away from me.”

Sad! Appeal Court affirms seven-year imprisonment for pastor

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday upheld the conviction and the 14 years detention imposed on a pastor, Basil Princewill, for raping a 14-year-old girl.

The pastor with the title of ‘Apostle’ was also said to have attempted to abort the pregnancy resulting from the sexual scam.

A three-man panel, in an undisputed judgment read by Justice Stephen Adah, held that it found nothing wrong with the June 25, 2019 judgment of Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, which convicted the pastor.

Justice Adah ruled that Princewill’s appeal against the lower court’s verdict lacked merit and struck it out.

He ruled, “Having looked at the arguments in the appeal and the records, as well as the evidence adduced in the case, I hold that the lower court did not do anything wrong by sentencing the appellant to seven years imprisonment.

“The appeal failed and the judgment of the lower court is hereby upheld.”

Princewill, who was then 33 years old, was said to have forcefully had sexual intercourse with the victim between July 27 and December 31, 2011 at Mountain Mover Ministry International and his house in Nyanya, Abuja.

The victim was said to have been impregnated in the process.

He was said to have vowed to kill her if she dared to tell anyone.

The pastor was said to have thereafter given her Postinor tablet and alcohol for abortion of the resultant pregnancy.

He was said to have falsely claimed to be the girl’s father when he took her to a medical centre to procure abortion for her.
