    Ban BBNaija now!-Cleric urges FG

Ven. Ifeanyi Akunna, Vicar of Anglican Church of the Epiphany, Abuja has called on the Federal Government to ban Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) reality show and other similar programmes in the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that BBNaija is a reality show in which contestants live in an isolated house for a period of time and compete for a large cash prize.

Akunna made the call in message entitled: ‘A House Built on Faulty Foundation’ made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.

He said that such programmes promote immorality and erode the moral foundations upon which Nigerian youths should build on.

The cleric also tasked the government on restoring moral values and the dignity of education in Nigeria.

Akunna added that the addiction of Nigerians to reality shows like ‘Big BBNaija does not add to their moral value.

Akunna emphasised that the plan and work of Satan was to constantly pollute the hearts and minds of viewers of the programme with nudity and porn concept to divert them from the ways of God.

“All who watch the reality programme should desist from it and ask God for forgiveness as it does not promote a healthy relationship with God, neither does it promote healthy marital values.

“These things contribute to the faulty foundations upon which people build their lives and future.

“Any foundation that is not built on Jesus Christ must surely collapse — as only Jesus is the sure anchor of our lives and souls,” he said.

He called on the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to scrap the programme and censor programmes that do not teach moral values.

“Our relevant broadcast authorities should work to ensure that any content that does not promote moral values in the Nigerian society should not be broadcast,“ he said.

Akunna regretted that the media and the entertainment industry in Nigeria had paid no attention to the damaging effects of their contents.

  • Pastors who refuse to open churches for fear of COVID-19 are fake – Oyakhilome

Pastors who refuse to open churches for fear of COVID-19 are fake – Oyakhilome

Founder, Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has lashed out at churches that refused to open for worship in Lagos State, describing them as fake.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that some pastors have kept their churches under lock and key despite the lifting of ban on religious activities. Founder, The Citadel Global Community Church (formerly Latter Rain Assembly) Pastor Tunde Bakare; founder, Day Star, Pastor Sam Adeyemi and some others have refused to open their churches for services after the Lagos State Government lifted the ban on religious centres’ re-opening.

But Oyahilome during a service said ” if you refuse to open church for fear of being infected, you were never a believer.

“This is a great concern because there were churches that were thought to be churches until recently. We find a lot of ministers who were thought to be advocates of the gospel advocating for shutting down the churches. (Because they cannot guarantee safety).

“It is pressure like this that reveals what is a church and what is not. Do they really believe in God, the same God of the patriarchs in the Bible?

“I have laid hands on some of the most infectious people on earth and had no fear of being infected. The Word of God guarantees life in Christ.

“When you get to that point where you are afraid of opening churches for fear of being infected, you have denied the faith. You never believed,” he said.

He said one could be a preacher but “your fear and unbelief has put you in bondage. If Jesus is real and you have him inside you, shouldn’t you be a healer of diseases? Should you be afraid? The Bible says ‘if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them’. Don’t you believe that? Do you question the validity of the words of Jesus?
If these things are not true, then what is true? If one part of the Bible is not true, then what is true?

“What the Lord expects us to do: There was a time the Church didn’t have knowledge of anything going on.
I believe why God allowed the Churches to be shut down was because God wanted to get our attention.
Usually there should be a separation of Church and State. But different leaders started making rules about wearing masks before we worship.”

Oyakhilome added that “these guys don’t have any research that shows that using a mask saves you from the COVID-19. On the contrary we have abundant research results that prove that the mask doesn’t save you: in fact it kills you slowly. So why the mask: it keeps you subject to them. It reminds them of their power over you.

“Don’t look at the USA because its not a good example for any country to follow right now. It’s been politicized. They are caving in to the protagonists of the left to reduce criticism. I tell you, after the elections, nobody will wear masks.”

He stated that the testing for COVID-19 is one of the biggest fraud.

According to him, “from different countries we have heard complaints of this fraud of a test. Those who are doing the test are behind the fraud. Every government needs to wake up now and question the fraud! Paid Journalists had better be sincere to themselves, their country and to God. I have done my research. You do yours! Get the right information.”

A teacher, Omotayo Adanlawo, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating the 10-year-old daughter of the General Overseer of his church.

Adanlawo was jailed by an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure presided over by Justice Samuel Bola.

Justice Bola said Adanlawo did not give convincing evidence and testimony to prove his innocence.

The trial judge said the victim was a “witness of truth” because of the courage and precision in her testimony.

Adanlawo was said to have committed the offence at the victim’s house at Iju while she was alone and defiled her with a warning not to tell anyone else she would die.

The bubble burst when the victim could not walk properly and doctor’s examination revealed that she had been raped.

The victim was said to have revealed that it was her father’s spiritual son that was responsible for the rape.

Adanlawo was subsequently arrested and arraigned before Justice Bola on a one-count charge of rape punishable under section 358 of the Criminal Laws of Ondo State.

The prosecution led by a state counsel, Stella Adegoke, called five witnesses, but the defendant testified for himself.

Adanlawo, in his statement before the police, said he was battling hernia and was not medically fit to have sexual intercourse with the girl.

Justice Bola, in his judgement, said the prosecution proved there was penetration of the victim.

He said the defendant gave no medical report to prove his condition as well as any evidence to suggest he was in his house as claimed on the day of the incident.

He, therefore, sentenced Adanlawo to life imprisonment in line with Section 358 of the Criminal Laws of Ondo State.

Pastor kidnaps delivery man, demands ransom in Ogun

A pastor, Adetokunbo Adenopo, has been arrested for allegedly abducting a delivery man, Jonathan Ekpo, in order to obtain ransom from his employers for Sallah celebration.

The 52-year-old who is the founder of the New Life Church, Sagamu, Ogun State, allegedly carried out the act with his gang members, Chigozie William, 22; Linus Ugorji, 30; and Emmanuel Chris.

Ekpo had gone to deliver a package to Adenopo in Sagamu when the four men tied him up and anaesthetised him. They also kept him in an underground room until he was rescued by the police.

Narrating his ordeal to journalists during the parade of the suspects in Abuja on Wednesday, Ekpo explained that he was placing the package on the table at Adenopo’s church when the men grabbed and wrestled him to the ground.

He stated that he struggled to escape, but was injected with a substance by Adenopo, which made him lose consciousness.

“When I regained consciousness, I found my hands tied and my mouth and eyes covered up. They later removed the gag in my mouth and the mask on my face; they fed me with beans, garri and fufu so that I won’t have to go to the toilet,” the victim narrated.

Explaining his role in the abduction, William said the pastor suggested the idea of obtaining ransom to fund his charity activities, adding that Adenopo promised to release Ekpo if his employers failed to meet their demands.

He stated, “The pastor invited the man to deliver some products. He said he wanted to collect money from his company to buy bags of rice and other things for the Sallah.

“I asked him how long would the man stay with us and he said after this month, if there was no money (ransom), he would release the man. When the man came, we took him down and the pastor injected him. We took him to the underground. We used to feed the man every morning and night; that was the pastor’s instruction.”

Adenopo, who claimed to be a former pastor with the Living Faith Church, said he planned to use the ransom from the failed abduction to buy rams, rice and garri, which he intended to share to the poor in his community.

On his relationship with his accomplices, he said they were staying with him for security reasons, adding that he designed the underground room where the victim was kept “for certain situations and threats.”

The pastor, who appeared unperturbed by his arrest said, “A few weeks ago, we were short of funds and the idea of doing something during the Ileya (Sallah) came up because I don’t discriminate against any religion, so we planned to get some bags of beans, garri and ram and share to people.

“That was why we came up with the idea of getting money from rich companies and use it to buy those items to start the project.”

“The Church, after reviewing the report of her investigation, noted that by his conduct, Bakare has not only tainted his personal reputation but has portrayed the Church in a bad light.
