Police arrest 2 Pastors for killing female Church member

Two pastors, Olusola Akindele, 42, and Ayodele Bamiduro, 42, have been  arrested by Nigerian police for allegedly beheading a female church member.

It was gathered that the victim was killed for ritual purposes, and the victim was later buried in the church premises, after demise.

The suspects; Akindele, and Bamiduro, of the Lion of Judah Church of Christ, 13, Robiyan Avenue, Robiyan, near Ijoko, were arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command.

Their arrest was reportedly facilitated following an investigation after the woman’s remains were found.

  • Christians must beware of dead works (2) – By Femi Aribisala

Christians must beware of dead works (2) – By Femi Aribisala

“Our works are dead when we prefer the glory that fades to the glory that endures”.

Paul says: “I want you to affirm constantly that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.” (Titus 3:8).

However, the pastors of our churches are passionate practitioners of dead works. Paul says: “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossian 3:17).

But pastors preach in their own names. They are “holier than thou,” presenting themselves as exemplars of righteousness. They are proud and boastful. “Everything they do is for show.” (Matthew 23:5).

Jesus says: “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 6:1).

But pastors proclaim their charitable deeds on the rooftops and invite their congregants to do the same. When you hear Christians saying things like the following, know that God is not impressed:

“I was the pastor of the biggest church in Nigeria.” Dead works!

“I preached the gospel in the rural areas of Nigeria for 50 years.” Dead works!

“I established a multi-million-naira fund to help the poor in Nigeria’s inner cities.” Dead works!

“I was a member of the prayer squad in my church. We prayed at midnight every night for 50 years non-stop.” Dead works!

“I am the praise worship leader in my church.” Dead works!

    Filthy rags

Dead works are works of self-righteousness. They are works that bring honour and glory to men. They are works for which we receive praise from men. They are works for which we receive earthly rewards.

Pastors are not only full of dead works; they promote dead works in the churches. You might have heard some Nigerian pastors saying this:

“I know some people are telling you not to pay tithe. Do not listen to them. They want to kill you. You go die quick.” Dead works!

If you do not pay tithe, things will be tight for you.” Dead works!

“Immediately after this convention, restitute your ways with your congregation. Make it clear to them, anyone who is not paying his tithe is not going to heaven, full-stop.” Dead works!

As a young believer, I was obsessed with the desire to end up in heaven. All my prayer points were about going to heaven. But one day, the Holy Spirit engaged me on my preoccupation. He wanted to know why I was so determined to go to heaven.

I could not answer Him because I wanted to go to heaven because I was afraid of going to hell. So, He told me heaven was not for me.

Do not believe the lies of pastors. Heaven is not for those who want to go to heaven out of fear of going to hell. Heaven is only for those who want to go to heaven out of love for God because they want to be with Him.

    Loving others more

Dead works are proclaimed in the name of righteousness but are abominable to God. Jesus says: “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.” (Matthew 15:8).

“I was a faithful husband to my wife for 70 years.” Dead works!

“I faithfully and diligently took great care of my two autistic children and sacrificed everything for them.” Dead works!

Jesus says: “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.” (Matthew 10:37).

Our love for others become dead works unless they come out of our love for God. Jesus says: “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” (Matthew 25:40).

Dead works are works done not according to the will of God. They are works that are not done because of the love of God. They are works that seem to be good but are done from wrong motives.

Jesus is the redeemer. But He only redeems our loses in this world. He does not redeem our gains. If we receive a reward for something in the world, that thing automatically becomes a dead work and we forfeit the great reward for it in heaven. But if we reject the reward of the world, “great is our reward in heaven.” (Matthew 5:12).

    Accepting praise

Jesus says: “I do not accept praise from men. (John 5:41). If we accept praise from men, we forfeit the praise of God. The work for which we are praised become a dead work. Accordingly, I grieved when Newsweek named a Nigerian pastor as one of the 100 most influential men in the world.

Jesus says: “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” (John 15:18-19).

Good works are the works that please God and not men. They are works that redound to the glory of God and not of men. They are works for which we shall get rewards from God and God alone. Once we are rewarded for anything by men, it is a dead work for which we will get no reward in heaven from God.

    Approving the excellent

Paul prays: “That (we) may approve the things that are excellent, that (we) may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:10-11).

God is the only one that is excellent. His name is excellent. (Psalm 8:1). The things that are excellent are the things that pertain to Him. God only does excellent things. (Isaiah 12:5). It is God who is: “wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance.” (Isaiah 28:29).

Therefore, our works are dead when we approve the things of men instead of the things of God.

We are deep up to our necks in dead works when we prefer surfing the net to spending time with God. Our works are dead when we prefer making money to making a joyful noise to the Lord. Our works are dead when we prefer success in the world to the good success of God. Our works are dead when we prefer gain in the world to the great gain of the kingdom of God.

Our works are dead when we prefer the visible to the invisible. Our works are dead when we prefer the physical to the spiritual. Our works are dead when we prefer the glory that fades to the glory that endures. Our works are dead when we love our lives and are determined to save them rather than lose them.

Jesus says: “He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” (John 12:25).

  • Pastoral shenanigans: Why pastors don’t go to heaven – By Femi Aribisala

Pastoral shenanigans: Why pastors don’t go to heaven – By Femi Aribisala

I was a young believer at church in Lagos when I received the gifts of healings. (1 Corinthians 12:9). The owner of the building where the church was situated was one of Nigeria’s pioneer industrialists, a man by the name of Odutola of “Odutola Tyre Soles” fame. He was a multi-millionaire in his 90’s at the time. But he had one affliction: he was paralysed on one side of his body.

The pastor of the church decided that I should go and pray for the healing of the landlord. So, one Saturday, we drove out of town to Ijebu Ode to see him.

The man was in good spirits. But he complained to us that his children wanted him dead so they could get hold of his property. He said he opened the newspapers one morning to discover there were obituaries placed by his children saying he had died.

This made what happened next all the more embarrassing. The pastor introduced me as a gifted member of his church full of the anointing to heal. He told him Jesus had sent us to pray for his healing. But there was one small condition: The Lord wants him first and foremost to give our church his building.

When I heard this, I wanted to crawl into the ground and hide. I was so embarrassed and angry to have been included in these 419 schemes.

Mr. Odutola was not impressed. It was clear that he was familiar with this type of manipulation. He smiled and pointedly refused to say anything about giving our church his building. Nevertheless, we prayed for his healing and left. I realized from then that I had to be careful in my dealings with the pastor.

Pastors enslave some people mentally – Uche Jombo

Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo has opined that pastors are making some people slaves.

The actress, in a tweet on Saturday, advised Nigerians to focus on knowing and worshipping God.

Her reaction is coming at a time when an evangelist, Fumilayo Adebayo, nicknamed Mummy G.O, claimed many people were going to hell fire for playing football, watching comedy, among other reasons.

Mummy G.O, in one of the clips, also claimed that she has been a virgin all her life, despite having had premarital sexual relationship and given birth to children.

Uche Jumbo in a tweet wrote, “Many people are enslaved mentally by pastors when the focus should be knowing and worshiping God.”

Deeper Life founder, Kumuyi rejects COVID-19 conspiracy theories, says virus almost killed one of his pastors

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church (DLBC), Pastor William F. Kumuyi, has said from his observations, the COVID-19 virus is not fake.

Kumuyi referred to theories alleging that the virus was fake or politically motivated, but noted that the experiences of some DLBC members in Nigeria and abroad, showed that the virus is real.

The cleric spoke in Lagos at a meeting with the press ahead of the church’s global crusade which begins on Tuesday.

The event tagged ‘Great Miracle Explosion’, will run till December 26 at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre, Km 42, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Responding to a question on the virus, Kumuyi said: “Concerning COVID-19, I want to say that from my observations, from looking at things, I know that COVID-19 is real; it is not fake, it is not a politically arranged thing to do whatever. It’s real.

“We’ve had people who had real COVID19 situations and they were in isolation.

“In fact, one of our men, one of our pastors was about passing away.

“According to him, he had said his last prayer because in that isolation he had seen other people dying, just going like that.

“I knew about it and I called him on phone and prayed with him.

“Within, I would say, one hour, he was completely healed.

“He went to the toilet, got up by himself, came by himself and the Lord brought him back to life.”

Oyedepo confirms mass sack of Winners Church pastors, gives reasons

President and Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo on Wednesday shed light on the sacking of some ministers on the payroll of the church.

The outspoken cleric while confirming the development that has dominated the social media space for some days now justified the sack of pastors saying they were “unfruitful” in their assignments.

In a video that has now gone viral Oyedepo said, ”When we employed 7, 000 pastors at once, social media was dead. We have more employees than most states in Nigeria and we have neither owed them or taken bank overdraft once.

”The pastors were asked to go because they were unfruitful. Many of the churches built can never pay for the church building in 30 years. We have no patience for failure here.

”We have built more than 1,000 churches in rural areas where in the next 30 years, they can never generate such fund, with each costing more than N14 million. We are hunting after souls, not income.

”People are confused about our Ministry. I learnt some fellows said, ‘you know, they are not bringing income, that is why they asked them to go.’

”We asked you to go because you are unfruitful. Unfruitful! Blatant failure. Doing what there? We have no patience with failure here.

”When we employed 7,000 people at a time, social media was dead.We have more employees in this organisation than most of the states.

”No one is owed a dime salary and we don’t borrow, we don’t beg. Ask our bank whether we take overdraft. We are covenant bound, working in the light of God’ Word, enjoying an open Heaven.

”Money: Nonsense! We have never lacked it and yet we have never prayed for it, we are just simply obeying God and He is backing up what He is asking us to do. Awesome God.

”Now the next set is about to be flagged off, just certifying the landed property issues, nothing else. We have no lack of anything. The world is confused. Walking in the light of God’s Word. Please, obey God to the full and watch out for His manifestations in your life.

”Well, you don’t need so much mathematics to know a thousand buildings; that is not N1,000 each, that is not N10 million each, that is not 12 Million (naira) each, that is not 14 million (naira) each. Some are 35 million (naira). At a go!

”We have never seen it ourselves. We just watch God doing it. The only criteria: How many souls have they gotten there? Then, build for them. How many souls? Not once: how much money do they have?

”You want to see what we see, go and do what we do. But if you are not saved, there is nothing you do that matters.”

  • Two pastors land in prison for brainwashing congregation to disown parents, burn certificates

Two pastors land in prison for brainwashing congregation to disown parents, burn certificates

An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, remanded two pastors: Olumide Peter and Jasulayomi Adetola, for allegedly brainwashing their congregation to disown their biological parents and burn their certificates.

The defendants were charged with criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, wrongful confinement and putting persons in fear of injury in order to commit extortion.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Dasuki, ordered the defendants to be remanded in Oke-Kura Correctional Centre, Ilorin.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Jan. 28, for further mention.
Earlier, Counsel to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Ajide Kehinde, said that two children and four adults, who were reportedly abducted by the pastors, were rescued by the corps.

He said that the defendants, who are pastors at Evidence of Christ Fellowship International Church, Agbo-Oba, Ilorin, kicked against Western education, claiming that it was a sin and that any certificate acquired through it was evil.

Kehinde said that the pastors had been extorting money from international organisations by sending recorded videos of the children, claiming that they were victims of natural disasters and internally-displaced persons.

Kehinde said further investigation revealed that the pastors kicked against Western education, urging its congregation to see it as ungodly.

He said that the offences were contrary to Sections 96, 100, 260 and 293 of the Penal Code Law.

The counsel prayed the court to remand the defendants on the basis that one of them was still at large.

He said that releasing the defendants on bail might jeopardise efforts to carry out proper investigation into the matter.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

  • No tithing in the new testament church (2) – Femi Aribisala

    By Femi Aribisala

At a Sunday service in a New Testament church, the pastor asked the church-members to open their Bibles to Deuteronomy 21:18, and then began to read.

“If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city. And they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones.’” (Deuteronomy 21:18-21).

He informed the church that the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tunde George has been rebellious. The parents, in concert with the church, have exhausted all the available resources for counselling him. They have now reached the conclusion that he is past redemption.

Therefore, the pastor regrets to announce that they are left with no choice than to require that the boy be stoned to death, according to the Law of Moses. This stoning will take place without further delay immediately after the service in the parking lot. All parents should endeavour to attend with their children so that lessons could be learnt by all.

    Tithing deception

I was wondering if this kind of announcement has ever been made in your church. My guess is that it probably has not because, in the New Testament: “We are not under law but under grace.” (Romans 6:15).

There is no scripture whatsoever in the New Testament asking Christians to tithe. When Jesus once referred to the practice, he was talking about Pharisees who were still under the Law of Moses and not about New Testament believers.

Nevertheless, he pointed out that, even under the law, tithing was not an important matter. (Matthew 23:23). The only other scripture that deals with tithing in the New Testament says people only receive tithes “according to the law.” (Hebrews 7:5). It then points out that tithing (and everything else under the law) was annulled.

“The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.” (Hebrews 7:18-19).

Nevertheless, there is one scripture which is the mother of all scriptures. It is the favourite of pastors. It is repeated ad nauseam. And yet, the scripture is also rooted in the Old Testament.

That scripture says: “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,’” says the LORD of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’” (Malachi 3:10).

I am sure many Christians have heard this scripture applied to them in church before. The genius of modern-day pastors lies in their ability to hoodwink church-members into believing that while scriptures like Deuteronomy 21:18-21 are no longer applicable under the New Testament, Malachi 3:10 remains mandatory.

    Thieves and robbers

Therefore, let me state it categorically here: every pastor who collects tithes from his congregation is a thief and a robber. The reason for this is simple. If Jewish rabbis, whose terms of reference remain the Old Testament from Genesis to Malachi do not collect tithes, then Christian pastors who are supposedly under a New Testament built upon better promises, have no business collecting tithes.

Pastors cannot say Christians are no longer under the law in one breath, then continue to insist that their church-members pay tithes in another breath. The payment of tithes is a requirement that comes under the law.

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for keeping part instead of the whole law. That is what tithe-collecting pastors demand of Christians today. But if they insist that tithes must be paid, they must also insist that they keep the rest of the law. James notes that: “Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10).

Therefore, if pastors insist on tithing, they should also refrain from eating pork. They should stone adulterers, execute homosexuals, stone Sabbath violators, sacrifice animals and leave the corners of their fields for the poor to harvest.

Precisely because it would now be inappropriate to do any of these, given the novel teachings about the kingdom of God, Jesus warns that we cannot put new wine in an old bottle. (Matthew 9:16-17).

    More deception

Pastors try to whitewash this contradiction by insisting that while Christians are no longer under the law, the payment of tithes pre-dated the law. Here Abraham is cited as a prime example of someone who paid tithes before the promulgation of the Law of Moses, as also did his grandson, Jacob.

However, such arguments are disingenuous. Before the law, tithing was at best an example but not a commandment. Moreover, pastors fail to mention that Abraham only tithed once in his lifetime. When he did, he did not even tithe his own money: he tithed the spoils of war. He gave ten per cent of the plunder he took when he rescued Lot to Melchisedec, king of Salem. But then he did not even keep the rest but returned it (all ninety per cent) to the king of Sodom.

For his part, Jacob also only tithed once. He did this in a “let’s make a deal” arrangement he made with God that hardly constitutes precedence in righteousness.

“Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.’” (Gen 28:20-22).

This tit-for-tat with God certainly cannot be a term of reference for any serious believer.

    Jerusalem Council

In any case, the Jerusalem Council nailed the coffin on the law. When a dispute arose over whether Gentile believers had to be circumcised according to the law, the disciples of Jesus sent a circular directing that they do not have to abide by the Law of Moses.

“It seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.” (Acts 15:28-29).

No mention of tithing here because it is no longer required. Jesus gave them the authority to give this kind of directive. He said to them: “Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” (Matthew 18:18).

Gunmen kidnap two pastors, member in Delta

Two pastors and a worshipper have reportedly been kidnapped in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the three victims were kidnapped at a building site along Ubulu-Unor/Ogwashi-Uku road on Thursday.

A source in the community told newsmen that a pastor of a church in the area, Paul Okozi, and another pastor newly attached to the church including a member of the church, Mr Obi Dieyi, went to inspect an ongoing church building project when they were kidnapped.

The source said, “The two pastors with a member of the church went to the building site when the incident occurred. The kidnappers were armed and ready to battle any hindrances.

“One of the church members who narrowly escaped ran to town and informed everybody about the development.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the development, saying only one pastor was kidnapped.

“The police are on top of the situation to rescue the victim and consequently arrest the suspects. No information yet on whether the kidnappers have made contact with the victim’s family.”

  • Two Rivers pastors arrested for raping corps member

Two Rivers pastors arrested for raping corps member

The Police in Rivers State have arrested two pastors for allegedly raping a 27-year old member of the National Youths Service Corps.

The corps member is observing her primary assignment at the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The pastors, identified as Austin Emmanuel and Peter Davies, are currently being detained at the State Criminal and Investigation and Intelligence Department, Port Harcourt.

Emmanuel reportedly invited the victim to his house for an indoor birthday party and in the course of the celebration, he was later joined by Davies.

It was gathered that the suspects offered to pray for the victim and in the middle of the prayer, they applied a-yet-to-be-identified liquid on her face which made her unconscious.

Speaking with journalists, the corps member said she experienced pains in her private parts after regaining consciousness.

She said, “Actually, it was after I regained consciousness that I was feeling pain in my vagina. I told my mum and she reported to the police and they said that they should take me to doctors without borders for checkup. I found out that I was fingered according to the report and saw bruises seen all over my body.”

Meanwhile, parents of the victim, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Bonko called on the Rivers State Police Command not to allow the accused persons go scot free to serve as a deterrent to other persons.

The father of the girl said he had approached the International Federation of Women Lawyers in the state to ensure the prosecution of the case.

“When I saw her, she was not in her senses. I started asking questions. Then they told me that they have arrested the suspects. I saw the suspects and they told me what happened.

“We took her to a psychiatric hospital. They tested her and did everything. Wherever we went, the NYSC followed us on the matter. An NYSC official reported the issue to the headquarters. If we allow this matter to die, they will do the same thing to other female corps members. That is why I decided to come to FIDA,” he explained.

The state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, said the matter was under investigation.

“Yes, we refer to this issue, but the matter has not reached my desk. I believe it is still under investigation,” Mukan stated.
