  • Atiku’s aide reveals reason Peter Obi’s brother property was demolished in Lagos

Atiku’s aide reveals reason Peter Obi’s brother property was demolished in Lagos

Paul Ibe, media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has responded to the alleged illegal demolition of a business property owned by the younger brother of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

TheNewsGuru understands that the former presidential candidate condemned via social media, the unlawful demolition of his brother’s property.

According to reports, the Lagos State Government pulled down the property in the Ikeja area of the state.

Reacting, Ibe via X page noted that Peter Obi’s brother’s predicament is due to the ‘sins’ of the former Governor of Anambra State, for daring to contest the 2023 election and stripping the Lagos State emperor naked in his domain.

Atiku’s aide further stated that the country is witnessing a dictatorship.

He wrote, “I thought the so-called progressives said the 2023 politicking season is over, paving the way for governance.

“However, their actions suggest otherwise. Every step they’ve taken since May 29, 2023, reeks of politics.

“The same strategy of divide and rule, bigoted and tribal politics that powered their campaign in 2023 in Lagos and elsewhere is the playbook they’ve continued to adopt in what is supposed to be a season of governance. Meanwhile, the well-being of Nigerians is at an all-time low while insecurity is rife.

“How can any reasonable person explain the destruction of the property of the brother of @PeterObi in the Ikeja area of Lagos State. It is obvious that the brother of Obi is being visited by the “sins” of the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in daring to run in 2023 and stripping the emperor of Lagos naked in his own domain.

“What we are witnessing now is dictatorship 2.0, which makes the jackboot military dictatorship of the past a child’s play. It looks like some people learnt a thing or two from Abacha’s mentorship.

“Today, it is the destruction of the property of the brother of Peter Obi. Tomorrow, it may be the property or even the life of your own brother or sister that may be at risk.”

  • EFCC responds to allegations made by Atiku’s media aide on Channels TV

EFCC responds to allegations made by Atiku’s media aide on Channels TV

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed as false the claims made by Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, during an appearance on Channels Television.

Ibe, speaking on Thursday’s edition of Politics Today with Seun Okinbaloye, alleged that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede had held a clandestine meeting with an unnamed politician. He further claimed that the ruling party is using the EFCC to pressure both current and former governors into leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement released Friday, the EFCC condemned the remarks as baseless and misleading. The agency described Ibe’s assertions as speculative and rooted in political conspiracy theories.

“The claims regarding a supposed meeting between the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Solicitor General of the Federation, and a governor who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) within 48 hours are entirely fictitious and made in bad faith,” the EFCC stated.

The commission emphasized that Olukoyede has consistently declared his neutrality, reiterating that both he and the EFCC are firmly committed to non-partisan conduct.

The agency urged the public to disregard Ibe’s claims, stating that the alleged secret meeting exists only in his imagination

  • Atiku fires back at Tinubu: “He’s known for drugs, money laundering”

Atiku fires back at Tinubu: “He’s known for drugs, money laundering”

The People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has said drug trafficking, money laundering, forgery and perjury are the territories of his All Progressive Congress (APC) counterpart, Ahmed Tinubu.

Atiku’s aide, Paul Ibe, said the PDP candidate is running to make Nigeria better for Nigerians.

On Friday, in Delta State, Tinubu had taken a swipe at Atiku for contesting several times in his quest to become Nigeria’s president.

“There are few of us left running, one says he is Atiku, how many times has he been running? He is always on the run and he is tired. Tell him to go and sit down. Enough is enough,” Tinubu said.

However, speaking to Channels Television, Atiku’s aide said his principal is only concerned about recovering Nigeria for the good of all.

“It’s only in this country that you put people who are sane in the same environment with people who are mental. It is really unfortunate.

“Let me start with where Atiku is not running to. He is not running to drug trafficking and money laundering. That’s Asiwaju’s territory. He is not running to forgery and perjury, forging documents and all.

“He is not running there. He is not running to a shaded past, early stages of life that are unknown. He is not running to hiding one’s medical state,” Ibe said.

After serving as the Vice President of Nigeria from 1999-2007, Atiku contested on the platform of the Action Congress (AC) which had Tinubu as at that time.

He also aspired in 2011 and 2014 but did not get his party’s ticket.

In 2019 when he got the ticket of the PDP, he lost to the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, Ibe said Atiku has enough good reasons to contest in the 2023 presidential polls.

“He is running to make Nigeria better for Nigerians; he is running to use his experience to transform and recover Nigeria for the good of all.

“He is running to unify the country that has been divided by over seven years of a clueless and incompetent APC administration foisted on us by characters like Tinubu. That’s why he is running,” he said.

  • My #NigeriaDecides2019 Diary: And They Came Like Thieves At Night, By Paul Ibe

My #NigeriaDecides2019 Diary: And They Came Like Thieves At Night, By Paul Ibe

    By Paul Ibe

Dateline: Friday, February 15, 9pm, Abuja, Area 3 Shopping Plaza. I dash off to the petrol station to fill up my tank for the assignment of the much awaited presidential election of February 16. On my way home, I get a call from my dear wife reminding me about buying stuff she needs to make small chops, which I had elected to share with my fellow voters, irrespective of which side of the divide they may stand, on the D-Day.

I make a detour for Area 3 Shopping Plaza to purchase the items including bread, butter, sausage, sardine, eggs and fruits, among others. My phone rings and I get a tip off (I am a journalist on sabbatical and my sources are still active and not lifeless) about the prospects of postponing the FailBuhari elections. Hell no, I mutter to myself, can’t return what is already paid for.

Moreover there is no way to confirm if indeed the elections will be postponed. I return home to drop my shopping. And on learning from a journalist that a meeting of INEC and some “stakeholders” is ongoing at the headquarters of the commission, I take my leave from home. We meet at a rendezvous, park my car (and to imagine that the passenger’s car window was open for the over 6 hours I kept the vigil) and mingle with journalists (those brave men and women who keep the vigil to ensure that our destiny as a nation is not mortgaged by the “witches” and “wizard” in some quarters who hold sway while you slumber).

I exchange banters with the journalists around, oblivious of the surreal drama playing out, as top management of INEC, like thieves in the wee hours of the night; attempt to break into our national home to subvert our destiny as a nation. At about midnight, some vehicles depart from the INEC premises. I try to find out who the occupants of those cars may be.

“Those are conference papers”, one of the journalist close by volunteers. “Conference papers, what are those?” I ask out of ignorance. “Editor, you have been a way for too long”, another comrade of the night adds. Not wearing socks, mosquitoes have a field day feasting on me, but the jokes and hearty laughs from this confraternity of pen pushers is the antidote to moments of gloom.

I try to stave off dozing off. Truly, I have been away for long from the rigours and challenges of hunting for, and breaking into the news when there’s a news break such as what was unfolding while the rest of Nigeria slumbers. I have the camaraderie of this group, for whom sleep has been murdered for the night, to be grateful for.

They keep me energized as we await the outcome of this extraordinary meeting that is bound to have a marked effect on the 2019 electoral process. At about 1 am, Yemi Oyekanmi, spokesman of INEC Chairman, Prof Yakubu Mahmood walks out to announce to the anxious horde of journalists:

“A decision has been reached, but you have to hear it from the horse’s mouth”. It takes nearly an hour for the journalists to be ushered into the INEC conference room and the best part of half an hour for the ‘horse’ (Mahmood) to make it to the ‘stable’ (conference room). At 2.40am, yes 2.40am when prospective voters were either snoring (as I am wont to do) or dreaming of casting their votes in the morning, Prof. Mahmood drops the bomb: elections postponed by one week.

The presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on 23 February while the Governorship and State House of Assembly is rescheduled for 9 March. And as soon as Prof Mahmood drops his microphone, journalists race to file their stories while the INEC Commissioners race to their cars. It only reminds me of what happens when someone releases rotten egg-like flatulence (gas) in an enclosed room and everyone sprints for their dear lives.

Perhaps the INEC Chairman’s announcement was noxious and even those who had invented the toxic gas did not want to inhale of it. In the ensuing flight out of the INEC headquarters, one of the National Commissioners walking side by side with Amina Zakari (a pharmacist versed in the science of mixing chemicals) falls flat on the ground. And as he lay prostrate face down, I was, for a fleeting moment, scared that the man is injured from the fall.

I discontinue the tweet I am perfecting, tuck my phone and power bank into my pockets; hands him my two hands (with the five fingers intact and not the leprous four fingers) and pulls him to his feet. He dusts himself while Amina Zakari sympathises with him. He mutters a thank you to me and races for his car.

Is this fall ominous of the fall of Buhari at the presidential election on 23 February notwithstanding the orchestrations, or nemesis playing out before me, I reflect. Like many Nigerians, I am outraged at such tardiness and impunity that is symptomatic of the Gen. Buhari administration. I was still livid when I stepped into the church Sunday morning.

And behold the answers to my concerns came via the word of God in Galatians 6: 9: “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart”. I am aware that across this great nation, men and women made incalculable sacrifices to present themselves at their polling units to cast their votes.

I am aware that this sacrifice has even resulted in the loss of life of some of our dear friends and loved ones like Jeremiah Kyuni Shuki who died in an auto accident on his way to Akwanga, Nasarawa State. He was burnt beyond recognition. It is disappointing that despite all these, the elections were postponed at the last minute and without any warning by the Buhari administration.

We all have good and justifiable reasons to be angry, but my counsel is that we direct our anger and energy at staying the course in our commitment to retrieve our country from the hands of the men the wife of president, Aisha Buhari had alluded to in her alert to the nation. Dear compatriots, no matter how pained you may be, I have good news for you: “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

  • My takeaways from Atiku’s trip to US, By Paul Ibe

My takeaways from Atiku’s trip to US, By Paul Ibe

    By Paul Ibe

Last Thursday, Atiku Abubakar silenced his critics by travelling to America for the first time in 12 years, thus proving false their speculations about his reasons for not visiting the country. Contrary to their cooked up tales and dementia induced narratives that he feared arrest and would be immediately incarcerated by American security personnel if he dared set foot there, Atiku arrived in Washington D. C., spent the next two days meeting with American Congress men and women and officials of US State Department and the US Chamber of Commerce. The PDP presidential candidate also met with officials of Institute of Peace, the business community and the Nigerian community in and around the Washington D. C. area, before returning to Abuja on Saturday afternoon.

Over the years, Atiku had maintained that his reason for staying away from America was administrative: he would go to America if he was granted a visa. And that is exactly what he did. However, Atiku’s visit to America last week was more than just about travelling to prove the naysayers and rumour mongers wrong. These are my five takeaways from his brief but essential trip.

Atiku’s presidential campaign has revolved around his policy framework of JOBS: (J)obs, (O)pportunity, (B)eing United, and (S)ecurity. During his visit to America, he met with congressmen and women, US State department, US chamber of commerce, US Institute of Peace, members of the business community in America, and Nigerians in the Diaspora. With each of these groups, he discussed the relevant aspect of his policy framework, to better understand how they could help him achieve these goals after he is elected president of Nigeria.

Over the nearly four years of the current APC administration, Nigeria’s relationship with foreign allies has grown limp, with many of President Muhammadu Buhari’s trips abroad notorious for blunders and embarrassments and his most recent visit to the US better remembered for descriptions of his “lifelessness” than for any significant achievements. By his trip and during his meetings, Atiku has shown America, a key ally, that Nigeria can offer a more lively and vibrant leadership. They need not fear about dealing again with any form of “lifelessness”.

For the average Nigerian, the severe damage done to our country’s economy by the current administration’s policies, has been felt most painfully in the plunging rate of the naira to the dollar. However, these disastrous economic policies have had even more damaging consequences to us all. They have forced foreign businesses and investments to flee our country. During his trip to America, Atiku assured American investors that the economic atmosphere in Nigeria would change once the current administration is thrown out. Nigeria would once again be open for foreign direct investments as it was before the current administration came in and put a stop to that with its archaic policies.

Many see Nigeria’s bloated youth population as a disadvantage, but this disadvantage can be turned into an advantage. If our teeming youth population is employed, if they have their hands and minds busy, the entire country will benefit from their honest labour, and Nigeria can indeed stand tall in her place as the giant of Africa. If more US firms invest in Nigeria, millions of new jobs will be created for our millions of youth. Atiku knows this, thus his meetings with the business community in America. Atiku understands the enormity of the task that is ahead of him to reverse the negatives (21 million people unemployed and 90 million people made extremely poor with Nigeria being adjudged the poverty capital of the world) that has been enthroned by the Buhari administration and Get Nigeria Working Again.

Atiku believes that trading with foreign allies, like America, should go both ways. As he held discussions to open the doors of investment from America to Nigeria, so also did he do for trade from Nigeria to America. In his own words, “I am also eager to find a market in the US for some of the half a million shoes manufactured in Nigeria’s cities of Kano and Aba everyday.”

In nearly four years of the current administration, Nigeria has been presented to the world by her own leader, as a country of corrupt people and lazy youths. This is not the true picture of Nigeria, a country of 182 million hardworking people, each desperate for opportunities to shine. Atiku’s trip to America is just the beginning of the world hearing about a new Nigeria. This is just the beginning of the story. And, for the world to hear the rest of that great story, we must all unite to cast our votes for Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming elections.
