Adeleke vs Oyetola: Falana berates INEC, ask Osun voters to sue them

Senior lawyer Femi Falana, (SAN) has advised the electorates in Osun state to make a case against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for wasting their votes.

The legal practitioner made this known while granting interview questions on Arise Television on Sunday night.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke for overvoting at over 700 polling units in the Governorship election.

The tribunal asked INEC to give Certificate of Returns to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

However, according to Falana “What the voters in those areas have to do is to sue INEC for damages that you have wasted my votes,” Mr Falana said.

Continuing,  Falana also said it will be a daunting task by Adeleke’s lawyers to overturn the verdict of the tribunal.

“Looking at the judgement, I believe very strongly that it is going to be a daunting task to impeach the judgement. INEC has to be held completely responsible for what happened.

“INEC will have to go back to the drawing table so that we will not have this experience. INEC will have to put its house in order, If we have this in a presidential election, where you issue one or two reports, it will have a crisis of monumental proportion,” he said.

Once an appellant or an interested party has filed a Notice of Appeal, the Registrar of the lower Court is required to compile the record of appeal and transmit it to the registrar of the Court of Appeal within 60 days after its filing as provided by Order 8 Rule 1 of the Court of Appeal Rules.

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has said that he will be appealing the Osun Tribunal judgment.

  • Atiku’s Running Mate: Nyesom Wike speaks on defecting to APC

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, has debunked report that he would leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over presidential running mate battle.

This was contained in a statement signed and released by his media aide Kelvin Ebiri in Rivers state on Wednesday.

Recall that a video surfaced online where Wike was threatening to leave PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his statement,Ebiri announced that the video was an attempt to mislead the public.

Ebiri further  explained that the video was an excerpt of an old interview that Wike granted while reacting to the defection of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, from the PDP to the APC.

The statement reads in part: “Governor Wike has repeatedly maintained that he will never, under any circumstances, defect from the PDP, which has offered him the platform to excel in his political career.

“We urge the public to ignore the distorted video. Those behind it are desperately wicked and intend to mislead the public. Governor Wike remains a faithful, committed member of the PDP and will never leave it for the cancerous APC,” the statement read in part.

The PDP is battling ahead of deadline to submit the name of its presidential running mate and Governor Wike has been tipped as one of the favourites to be picked.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that Governor Wike, who came second in the PDP Presidential Primaries has been voted by a selected committee to pick a Vice Presidential candidate for Atiku Abubakar, as the VP candidate. But this is awaiting ratification today by the party

  • PDP will lose if they field a southerner-Reno Omokri explains

PDP will lose if they field a southerner-Reno Omokri explains

Former president Goodluck Jonathan’s aide Reno Omokri, who is also a socio-political activist has explained why the North would obey President Muhammadu Buhari’s direction that the region should vote for Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2023.

Omokri explained that president Buhari has well over 12 million Northerners who would obey his command on voting Tinubu in 2023 presidential elections.

To this end, the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan warned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against fielding a Southerner in 2023.

Omokri stated via his social media page that the PDP must field a Northerner to contest the 2023 presidential election in order to stand a chance.

He wrote: “Buhari has always had a captive audience of 12 million Northerners.

“If PDP fields a Southerner in 2023, his 12 million captive audience will obey Buhari’s command to vote for Tinubu. And he will win. The only way they won’t obey him is if the PDP fields a Northerner!”

Meanwhile president Buhari is yet to announce his anointed candidate but insinuations are rife that Rotimi Amaechi may get the nod.

Recently, the President said he would not disclose his preferred candidate because he may be assassinated.

However baring last minute change, the All Progressive Congress (APC) indirect primary elections holds may 30.
