Your Political Rating Is In Tatters, PDP Professionals Tell Gov Eno

Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has said the defection of Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruined his political rating and reputation among Nigerians.

Protem national coordinator CP-PDP, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, who gave the group’s position on the defection, said it was unfortunate that Governor Eno who assumed office with the reputation of a man of God and lover of the people is now shoveled among “the ranks of arrogant, ungodly, thoughtless and notorious lawbreakers whose only desire is to accumulate power and loot the resources meant for the wellbeing of the ordinary people.”

Nwachukwu said the conference, after an extensive review, found it disappointing that Pastor Eno could admire and decide to pitch tents with President Bola Tinubu who, according to group, is “widely adjudged to have failed woefully in his mid-term assessment.”

“By this decision to politically self-destruct, Governor Eno is standing alone in the journey to political oblivion as he can no longer command the solidarity of the people of Akwa Ibom State which remains in the PDP,” he said.

PDP begins membership verification in Cross River

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River, says it has begun the verification of its members in the state as part of efforts to reposition the party.

Mr Mike Ojisi, the Publicity Secretary, made the disclosure while addressing the press shortly after a meeting of the State Working Committee on Friday in Calabar.

Ojisi said that the move was aimed at identifying true members of the party across the 18 local government areas of the state.

The party spokesman also said that the verification exercise would pave the way for a stronger and more united party ahead of 2027.

“The exercise will be conducted by the local government chairmen of the party. We are committed to building a formidable party,” he said.

Ojisi further said that the wave of defections in the PDP was driven by greed and personal interests instead of ideology.

He commended party members who believed in its ability to remain strong and vibrant for their resilience and patience.

“Don’t fall for their empty promises. They only seek to exploit Nigerians because they have institutionalized poverty in the land,” he said.

“We urge our members to remain steadfast and loyal, our party remains Nigeria’s most viable option for a brighter future,” he said.

SURPRISE! PDP pleads with Peter Obi to dump LP to join former party

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra Chapter has pleaded Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election to return to the party.

Obi defected to LP when he felt he could not achieve his presidential ambition within the PDP’s fold.

The PDP made the call after the enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) to review the state of the party and chart a forward in Awka on Thursday.

The communique which was signed by Mr Chidi Chidebe, Chairman of PDP in Anambra said alliances with ideologically incompatible political formations, in the guise of coalitions would likely not yield the desired success.

“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr Peter Obi to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP.

“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria” he said.

He told Anambra electorate to support Mr Jude Ezenwafor, and his running mate, Mr Francis Okeke in the coming election while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial electoral process.

“We call on the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast in their historic support for the PDP and to come out en masse to vote for our candidates,” he said.

He announced the unanimous nomination of Chief Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra.

He urged the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee under Chief Ali Odefa to recognise and transmit same to the national secretariat.

He commended the party leadership for a successful National Executive Committee meeting on May 27 and expressed satisfaction with the template for resolution of its internal crisis.

I have no plans to join APC – Ex-PDP guber candidate

Chief Ifeanyi-Chukwuma Odii, the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 governorship election in Ebonyi says he has no plans to defect to All Progressives Congress (APC).

Odii said this in a statement issued Abakaliki on Wednesday.

APC is the ruling party in Ebonyi as well as at the Federal level.

He said he was yet to see any compelling reason, ideological, political, or developmental that would warrant such a decision.

“My attention has been drawn to public remarks credited to the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi, Mr Stanley Okoro-Emegha, saying that I, Odii, is considering a move to join his party.

“Let me categorically state that I am not considering joining the APC, now or in the foreseeable future.

“I am yet to see any compelling reason, ideological, political, or developmental that would warrant such a decision.

“My commitment remains firmly with the ideals of purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and genuine democratic progress, ” he said.

He said those values continued to guide his actions and political engagements.

“I believe in building a society anchored on justice, equity, and service, not opportunism or political convenience. I acknowledge Emegha’s right to express his opinions and promote his party.

“However, I urge political actors, especially those in leadership positions, to refrain from speculative statements that may mislead the public or distort the political landscape of Ebonyi State.

“My focus remains on contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of our dear state and nation, through platforms and processes that truly reflect the will and welfare of the people,” Odii said.

He said he appreciated the continued support, trust, and encouragement from his supporters, well-wishers, and the entire people of Ebonyi.

Former Ebonyi Speaker dumps PDP for APC

Former Ebonyi House of Assembly Speaker, Chukwuma Nwazunku, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwazunku, the immediate past Member representing Ebonyi/ Ohaukwu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives defected on Saturday at Ugwuachara during the APC meeting in Echiaba Ward of Ebonyi Local Government Area (LGA).

The APC chairman in Ebonyi, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, who received Nwazunku alongside several of his supporters, congratulated them for the decision, which he described as courageous and strategic.

Okoro-Emegha, represented by the APC chairman in Ebonyi LGA, Chief Patrick Orogbo, assured them of equal opportunities within the party structure.

“The party remains committed to internal democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness regardless of political background or previous affiliation,” he said.

The APC chairman in Echiaba Ward, Mr Amobi Nwofoke, commended Gov. Francis Nwifuru for his sterling performances in office over the past two years.

“The governor’s outstanding developmental strides have significantly diminished opposition in the state, gradually transforming it into a unified political entity,” he said.

Nwazunku in his remarks, said his spirit had long departed the PDP due to its diminishing internal cohesion and relevance.

“My decision to join the APC was inspired by the remarkable accomplishments of President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Francis Nwifuru.

“I will mobilise my supporters across the state to ensure the resounding success of APC particularly in the forthcoming 2027 general elections,” he said.

The event attracted key stakeholders from within and outside the ward. The ranks of the opposition in the State has continued to deplete with several figures defecting to the APC.

  • PDP crisis: What party leadership should do – Anyanwu opens up

PDP crisis: What party leadership should do – Anyanwu opens up

The embattled National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, has urged the leadership of the party to do the right thing in addressing the crisis surrounding his position.

Anyanwu, in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, said people would be ready to make necessary sacrifice if the right thing was done.

He said it was very disheartening that the party was plunged into an aviodable crisis because of personal ambitions of some people.

Anyanwu said there was no need putting the party in turmoil for personal or selfish interest, especially when the current National Working Committee (NWC) members had just about five months to finish their tenure.

He also emphasised the need for the NWC members to work together in unity in the interest of the party.

“We came here as a united family. It would be nice for us to go as a united family so that we can still meet tomorrow and say we are brothers, we served an organisation. Let nobody try to fragment the NWC,’’ Anyanwu said.

He insisted that he was on the side of the law and that he remained the party’s national secretary.

“There is no vacancy in the office of the PDP national secretary,” Anyanwu insisted, saying that did not resign his position when he went to contest for Anambra governorship election in 2023.

He said that he only wrote to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his deputy should act while he was on leave, which he did.

He added that even if he was going to be removed, due process must be followed and that the position should remain in Imo.

“I was elected in October 2021 as the national secretary of this party. According to the zoning arrangement, it was zoned to the South and micro-zoned to South-East.

“Just like every other state in the south-east, it was zoned to Imo State. Every state in the southeast has a representative in the national working committee.

“For instance, the national deputy treasurer comes from Enugu State; the National Auditor from Anambra State and the Deputy National Legal Adviser from Anambra State.

“So you can see that it is wickedness for anybody that wants to take something from Ebonyi State and put it in Anambra State when positions are evenly distributed.

“But assuming that I am no longer the national secretary, for instance, whoever that will replace me must come from Imo State,’’ he said.

Besides, Anyanwu said that the south-east Zone of the party could not recommend his removal because the office was not elected by only the zone but by the zones at the party’s national convention.

“I represent the nation but it’s very disheartening that the governor of Enugu State insisted that this must go to Enugu State when Enugu already has somebody,’’ he said.

Anyanwu said that Ali Odefa, a former National Vice-Chairman (South) that they were trying to replace him with was no longer a PDP member.

He claimed that Odefa had been expelled from the party by his ward, affirmed by his local government and then the state.

Anyanwu further stated that the decision was upheld by the judgment of a High Court, with an order of perpetual injunction restraining him (Odefa) from parading himself as a member or National Vice-Chairman of PDP.

He said that the court also permanently banned him from presiding over or even attending any PDP meeting.

According to him, the the judgment delivered on Jan. 26 in a suit number FFC/AI /227/2024 has not been appealed.

Anyanwu also said that he could not do anything to destroy a party that gave him a platform to actualise his political ambition.

He said that he had gone through psychological trauma, unnecessary blackmail, media blackmail and insults because he did not want to talk.

Anyanwu, however, said that while he had maintained his calmness for peace, he would not allow anybody to radicle him or destroy the reputation he had built over the years.

“I will not give in to anybody trying to mess me up or mess my career up. It took me time to build my reputation.

“I’ve been a two-time local government chairman, two+term assembly member, went to the senate, ran for governor twice and now national secretary,’’ he said.

Anyanwu wondered how his office had endangered those who were bent on removing him before the end of his tenure, advising those behind it to allow the sleeping dog lies.

“My position will end by December. Election is 2027. Primaries is 2026. I will not be there. So what would my position now do?,’’ he said.

He accused some of the party leaders of instigating the crisis rocking the party.

“Each time they talk about people demarketing the party, all these PDP leaders who go on national television are the ones destroying the party.

“Instead of saying issues that can build the party, you are saying things that will destroy and demarket the party, and will now be accusing the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, because he’s my friend,’’ he said.

He said that Wike remained his friend and boss and that he would never deny him, no matter the level of intimidation.

Speaking on the Tuesday National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of PDP, Anyanwu said it was not a NEC meeting but a stakeholders’ meeting because he, as the party’s national secretary, was not there.

“If it is a NEC meeting, any decision taken there is an illegality because PDP is a party, an organisation, ruled by law, and we should respect our constitution’’ he said.

On the current discussion about coalition, Anyanwu said that PDP was not party to any coalition or merger.

“PDP is the first party and the only party that retrieved power from the military. At every nook and cranny of this country, you must always find PDP.

“So we cannot (go into any coalition or merger). Rather, it is other parties that will subsume themselves into PDP,’’ he said.

  • PDP crisis: BoT seeks forgiveness

    PDP crisis: BoT seeks forgiveness

The People Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) called for forgiveness, dialogue and unity to resolve the party’s lingering internal crisis.

The Board Chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara stated this in his remarks at the party National Executive Committee (NEC) 99th meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.

“No ambition, grievance, and misunderstanding should ever be allowed to override the collective interests of the party and the hopes of Nigerians yearning for PDP return to national leadership.

“The journey of PDP has been long, sometimes turbulent, but always deeply rooted in members collective aspirations for a united, democratic, and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

He said while PDP had faced internal and external challenges, and in most cases self-inflicted challenges, it had also witnessed enduring strength of members’ ideals, the resilience of its structures, and the loyalty of millions of Nigerians who still believe in the party as the most credible platform for national transformation.

He said that members must be honest with themselves, there were still much work to do.

“Divisions, mistrusts, and lingering grievances within our ranks have at times hampered our progress and blurred our vision.

“As the party of the people, we must recommit to healing these wounds and restoring faith among our members.

“As chairman of the board of trustees, the conscience of the party, I call on all of us leaders, elders, youths, and stakeholders to embrace reconciliation, not just as a political tactic, but as a moral imperative.

“We must open our hearts to forgive, to dialogue, and to debate,” he said.

He urged party leaders to initiate a genuine and structural reconciliation process led by respected elders extending hands of peace to all aggrieved members.

Wabara emphasised the need for the party to remain open to fresh ideas, new members, and all Nigerians who believe in justice, equity, and good governance.

He said that Nigerians were looking for leadership that listens, leadership that delivers, and leadership that reacts, urging PDP to rise to the occasion.

“Let us strengthen our internal democracy, revamp our communication channels, and prioritise policies that directly touch the lives of every day Nigerians.

“We must begin now to articulate a people-focused vision and present a credible opportunity, not just as critics of government, but as champions of the future.

“Let this 99th meeting be remembered as a turning point, a moment where we chose unity over division, hope over despair, and service over self-interest.

“Let us go back to the grassroots with a renewed spirit, a clear purpose, and a firm resolve to reclaim our place as the party that not only knows Nigeria, but truly loves Nigeria,” he said.

The Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum, ov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, said irrespective of intimidation, members of the forum would not abandonee their mandates.

He expressed confidence that PDP governors who defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would still return to the party.

“We believe this is not the first time people left PDP and came back. I’m sure they will come back,” he said.

He said that the PDP leadership remained stronger and would continue to work for the interest of the party.

The Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, pledged commitment of the PDP National Caucus to work with other party organs and stakeholders to revamp the fortunes of the PDP.

Moro dispelled the impression that the PDP was on the verge of collapse due to the recent gale of defection, adding that it will make the party stronger.

“While the defection of very senior members of the party must have a temporary setback, we believe that PDP, with its ideas will definitely be the party to beat, even in 2027,” he said.

  • PDP governors shredded my agreement with them over Fubara– Wike reveals

PDP governors shredded my agreement with them over Fubara– Wike reveals

Former governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has revealed how People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors shredded agreement over Rivers state crisis.

The FCT minister in a series of tweets through his X handle, blamed governor Bala Mohammad led PDP governors and his erstwhile political ally, Seyi Makinde for the crisis rocking the PDP.

Speaking specifically on the state of emergency in Rivers state and governor Sim Fubara’s suspension, Wike disclosed that while himself and the PDP governors had reach an agreement in which they were to withdraw their suit at the Supreme Court which challenges governor Sim Fubara’s suspension by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to necessitate out of court reconciliation and governor Sim Fubara’s return in an unnamed date, the PDP governors failed to act inline with the agreement and for the interest of peace.

The FCT minister thereafter declared that he will no longer be party to any reconciliation move by the party and will thereafter challenge every of the party’s decisions in court.

Nyesom Wike since his failed presidential bid in 2023, has remained a controversial figure in the Nigeria’s political space. His vested interest in Rivers state as well as in the People’s Democratic Party, has resulted in prolonged crisis which threatens the continued existence of PDP as a party.

While governor Sim Fubara was controversially suspended by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a move widely understood as the president’s attempt to pacify Wike his political ally especially due to his role in his electoral victory, the PDP governors seek the intervention of the Supreme Court especially as the constitution appears ambiguous on whether the president has such constitutional power to suspended an elected governor and lawmakers.

As 2027 draws closer, the PDP which has been plagued by alleged sponsored leadership crisis, aims to put its house in order and Wike’s former ally and member of his defunct G5, governor Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammad lead the move for PDP’s revival.

They seek to weaken Nyesom Wike overwhelming grip and influence on the party’s national leadership.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom state has donated a brand new Toyota Prado to Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state

Eno’s wonderful gift comes amid strong indications that the governor has perfected his defection plans to the APC.

Commending the governor for such a rare gesture, the state APC publicity secretary, Barr. Otoabasi Udo, said the party received the gift with excitement, describing the governor’s benevolence as borne out of mature politics.

“The APC Akwa Ibom State, wishes to express our profound gratitude to our amiable governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, on his kind gesture and generosity by doling out to our ebullient state Chairman, Obong Stephen Leo Ntukekpo, a brand new SUV Prado Jeep,” he stated.

Appeal panel declares north-central PDP congress free, fair

The Appeal Panel for the North-Central Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the exercise as free, fair and credible.

Sen. Sunday Marshal, the Chairman of the panel, said this during a news conference on Tuesday in Jos.

According to Marshal, the panel did not receive any petition challenging the exercise.

“You will recall that last Saturday, the north-central zone of our party held its congress.

“We were earlier appointed to serve as an appeal panel to entertain complaints that may arise from the outcome of the zonal congress.

“This is in line with the guidelines and constitution of the PDP; we have been on ground since Sunday.

“But in the last 48 hours, we have not received any petition challenging the outcome of congress.

“It simply means that the exercise was free, fair and credible,” Marshal said.

The chairman called on party faithful in other zones to emulate the north-central in ensuring that their congresses are conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner.
