PDP NEC drags Tinubu’s govt through mud, says ill-advised and ill-implemented polices led to massive poverty, insecurity

… vows to challenge drift to one party State

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP on Tuesday said the President Bola Ahmed led administration ill-advised and ill-implemented policies has led to massive poverty and insecurity across Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports this was contained in a communique issued by NEC and signed by the party’s acting chairman, Ambassador Illya Damagum.

In the communique Issued at the end of the 99th Meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP, highlighted ten major issues threatening democracy and Nigeria’s survival.

Firstly, NEC expresses serious concern over the sorry and melancholic state of affairs of our Nation under the irredeemably exploitative insensitive and anti-people All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Secondly, NEC condemns the worsening insecurity; the wanton killings, banditry, kidnapping, marauding of communities and other acts of terrorism in various parts of our country, emboldened by President Tinubu’s apparent negligence and abdication of his Constitutional duty to ensure the safety and security of the nation and her citizens.

See other issues raised by the PDP below:

    3. NEC also laments the worsening economic hardship and extreme poverty in the country occasioned by the ill-advised and ill-implemented polices of the Tinubu administration; hike in fuel price, wanton increase in electricity tariff, multiple taxes and unexplained charges on services, resulting in collapse of the productive sector, closure of millions of businesses, massive loss of jobs, rise in criminality and general sense of misery across the country.

    4. NEC condemns the policy inconsistency, wholesale corruption, massive treasury-looting, budget padding and diversion of public funds that pervade the Tinubu administration resulting in infrastructural retrogression and loss of investors’ confidence in our system.

NEC restates the PDP demand that President Tinubu administration should rescind all its anti-people policies and take practical steps to address the insecurity and economic recession in the country.

    5. Furthermore, NEC stands in firm resistance to the sinister plot by the Tinubu-led APC to turn Nigeria into a one-Party totalitarian state as evidenced in the desperate attempts to stifle and annihilate opposition parties through open siege, threats and intimidation of opposition figures and institutions of democracy in Nigeria. It is clear that this plot is borne out of APC’s mortal fear of inevitable defeat in 2027 due to its dismal failure in government.

    6. On the part of the PDP, NEC restates our Party’s belief in Democracy, the Rule of Law and the Supremacy of the Will of the people as expressed through their free and unhindered democratic participation in multi-party politics and governance.

The successful convening of the 99th NEC meeting clearly communicates our Party’s unity and focus despite the challenges.

    7. Pursuant to the provisions of the PDP Constitution, NEC received and ratified the composition of the Committee on the National Convention and approved the conduct of the National Convention on Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th August 2025.

    8. NEC also received and ratified the composition of the Committee on the Zoning of National Offices ahead of the National Convention.

The members of the Zoning Committee are Gov. Douye Diri -Chairman, Gov. Dauda Lawal -Vice Chairman and Gov. Caleb Mutfwang -Secretary.
The members of the National Convention Committee are Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri- Chairman, Gov. Ademola Adeleke- Vice Chairman and Gov. Peter Mbah – Secretary.

    9. NEC also received the Resolution of the South East Zonal Executive with regard to the issue of the National Secretary of our Party. NEC resolved to consider the Resolution of the South East Zonal Executive at the next NEC meeting scheduled to hold on Monday, 30th June, 2025.

    10. NEC reassures Nigerians that the PDP remains strong, resilient , united and determined now, more than ever before in leading the charge to rescue our Nation from the vicious grip of the APC.

  • PDP fumes over sealed national secretariat

PDP fumes over sealed national secretariat

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) sealed its National Secretariat on Monday.

Speaking following the National Caucus Meeting of the PDP held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum described the action as “irresponsible”.

“I want to use this opportunity to tell you that, you are aware, that our office has been sealed. That is the highest level of irresponsibility from this government.

“If they are encouraging it, we are not going to take it lightly. In fact, they can come and arrest all of us. We are ready for that. We condemn this in totality and we will not tolerate it.

“They are trying to mark democracy day; and this is unacceptable. We condemn it and we will make sure they have us to contend with,” Damagum said.

Recall the FCTA took possession of Wadata Plaza, the building used by the PDP as its National Secretariat due to 28 years of unpaid ground rent.

Director of Lands at the FCTA, Mr Chijoke Nwankwoeze, said the action followed the revocation of the property’s land title, which was formally served on the property owner, Sen. Samaila Kurfi, on March 14.

Nwankwoeze explained that the property, located on Plot 1970, Michael Okpara Street, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, was officially reverted to the FCTA after repeated failure to settle outstanding annual ground rent spanning nearly three decades.

He noted that the revocation notice was properly delivered to Kurfi’s registered address in Kaduna.

When asked whether the PDP had been notified, Nwankwoeze clarified that the FCTA did not deal with tenants, but only with the rightful property owners recorded in its database.

The property, he said, was among 4,794 titles revoked in March due to unpaid ground rent totaling more than N6 billion.

“The PDP property is the sixth to be sealed so far. This enforcement exercise will continue until all revoked properties are addressed,” he added.

Also speaking, Mr Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, rejected any political interpretation of the action.

He emphasised that the operation was purely administrative and conducted in line with the provisions of the Land Use Act.

“This is not a political witch-hunt. It’s an enforcement of land administration regulations,” Olayinka said.

Other sealed properties in the FCT include a Total petrol station, Access Bank, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office, Ibro Hotel, and Mamuda Group Warehouse, all located in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

  • PDP prays court to sack Osun Reps lawmaker, Oluwole Oke

PDP prays court to sack Osun Reps lawmaker, Oluwole Oke

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to order the removal of Rep Oluwole Oke as lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP, in a fresh suit filed on Monday by its lead counsel, Raphael Oyewole, prayed the court to make an order of mandamus compelling the Speaker, House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to, forthwith, declare Oke’s seat vacant.

It said this would be in strict compliance with Section 68(1)(g) and (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), having defected without any verifiable division, merger or faction within the  political party.

The PDP urged the court to direct Abbas and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discharge their constitutional duties as provided by the law by declaring the seat vacant and initiating processes for the conduct of a bye-election into the vacant seat in the constituency.

The party sought an order directing the Clerk of the National Assembly (NASS) to withdraw all entitlements and stop payments of salaries, allowances, including benefits to Oke.

It equally sought an order directing the embattled lawmaker to refund all salaries, emoluments, benefits and allowances received from the date of his resignation from PDP to the date of judgment, having unlawfully retained a legislative seat in violation of Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.

NAN reports that the plaintiff (PDP) had, in the originating summons marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1040/2025, sued Oke, House Speaker, Clerk of NASS, Tajudeen Abbas and INEC and 1st to 5th defendants respectively.

The party sought seven questions for determination and eight reliefs.

One of the questions is “whether by virtue of Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), a member of the House of Representatives, such as the 1st defendant is not liable to forfeit his legislative seat, for resigning his membership of the plaintiff’s political party upon whose platform he was elected, to join another political party, in the absence of a division, merger or faction in the plaintiff political party.”

The matter is yet to be assigned to a judge.

Oke, a six-term lawmaker, who represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun, had said his decision to leave the PDP was after consultation with his political associates, friends, and family members.

Oke, in his resignation letter, dated April 16 and addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 7, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun, also copied the national and state chairmen of the party.

Meanwhile, in a related development, prominent legal practitioner, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has indicated interest in the seat for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, and has begun to canvas support from his people, following the development.

  • Wike pulls out of PDP peace deal

Wike pulls out of PDP peace deal

Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has pulled out of all previous agreements reached to resolve the lingering crisis in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike, who said this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, vowed to fight on until he got justice.

He said he had told Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State that non-adherence to agreements reached was the bane of the party.

The minister insisted that the resolutions reached was that Sen. Samuel Anyanwu remained the National Secretary of the PDP, in line with the Supreme Court judgment.

He added that other parts of the agreement was that all legal matters relating to Rivers must be withdrawn by the National Legal Adviser.

Additionally, Wike said that it was agreed that the suit on the state of emergency in Rivers be withdrawn forthwith and that nobody should deviate from the agreements.

He argued that since the 2023 general elections, PDP had been swinging from one part of a slippery precipice to another, owing fundamentally to dishonesty and lack of trust amongst its key stakeholders.

He added that efforts had been made to arrest the ‘virus of dishonesty and treachery’, and enthrone fidelity to agreements with a view to stabilising the party and move it forward.

“To this end, a meeting of the G5 was held in Lagos. In that meeting, I made it clear to Gov. Makinde that he was the architect of our problems.

“I pointed out to him that non-adherence to agreements reached was the bane of the party, and that he was the chief culprit of this anomaly.

“At the end of the meeting, we resolved to bury the hatchet and make progress,” he said.

Wike also said that as a follow-up to that meeting, there was an expanded meeting in Sen. Bukola Saraki’s guest house in Abuja, attended by Makinde, Gov. Umaru Fintri of Adamawa and Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.

He said that he made it clear at the meeting  that he had no personal problems with Mohammed, except that he had been hiding under the facade of Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum to serially renege on agreements.

“Tensions rose mightily in the meeting and it took all concerned to calm frayed nerves.

“At the end of the meeting, we came to some resolutions, including that Sen. Samuel Anyanwu remains the National Secretary of the PDP in tandem with the Supreme Court judgment and other aforementioned agreements.

“In the light of the foregoing, they pleaded with me to attend the stakeholders’ meeting at the Bauchi Government’s Lodge, regardless of my many engagements.

“I attended the meeting and clearly reiterated my earlier concerns, and to this end, and to resolve all other lingering issues, a committee was formed, headed by Saraki.

“It is disheartening to note that even before the Saraki-led Reconciliation Committee began its work, the gentleman’s agreement we reached at Saraki’s guest house was already being crudely violated,” he said.

The minister said that to his annoyance, Makinde had allegedly connived With Gov. Peter Mba of Enugu to orchestrate the summoning of the meeting of the South-East leaders.

He said that the leaders insisted that if Ude Okoye was not adopted as secretary, they would pull out of PDP.

“I have since granted an interview to the effect that the resolution of the South-East leaders would not hold.

“Again, Makinde organised some people in the National Secretariat to insist that the Deputy National Secretary should act as National Secretary.

“This is also in violation of the agreement earlier reached.

“To attempt to give credence to this farce, a letter was written by the Deputy National Secretary, calling for a meeting of the NEC of the party,” he said.

Wike further stated that the letter confirming the governorship candidate of the party in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra, duly signed by Anyanwu and the acting National Chairman, was portrayed as rejected by the party.

This, he said, was done through a rebuttal letter signed by the National Publicity Secretary, allegedly acting on the orders of Makinde and Mba.

All these actions, he said, were in complete violation of the agreements reached and would not do the party any good whatsoever.

“On May 24, in Jos for instance, a well publicised and properly attended zonal elective congress of the PDP was aborted because the letter inviting INEC to the congress was signed by the Deputy National Secretary of the party.

“INEC refused to attend because the proper signatory recognised by law, that is Sen. Anyanwu, was not a signatory to the invitation notice.

“This is undeniably distasteful, provocative and annoying, to say the least.

“I have painstakingly put out all these facts so that PDP members and the general public would know the truth,” he said.

The minister stated that he had been in the party since 1998 and had worked tirelessly for its survival with all his strength.

“It is on record that none of these persons have done anything close to what I have done to sustain this party.

“What is more painful is that I contributed substantially to most of these governors winning their elections, yet I have not made any personal demands on any of them and I would never do so.

“Most importantly, I had thought that we could keep the trust amongst us, but since it is now obvious that they would continue to play games to the detriment of the party, as is the case in the current debacle in the North-Central zonal elections, I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached.

“I have decided to fight on until justice is attained,” Wike said.

  • Current crisis won’t be the end of PDP – Agom-Jarigbe

Current crisis won’t be the end of PDP – Agom-Jarigbe

Sen. Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe has said that the current crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not be the end of the party.

Agom-Jarigbe, who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas, expressed this optimism at a town hall meeting in Obudu on Sunday.

He represents Cross River North in the National Assembly.

Agom-Jarigbe, who used the town hall to reelout his scorecard in the last two years, debunked his planned remoured defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said that the crisis rocking the party would soon be resolved to the benefit of all.

He assured his constituents of the plan by the PDP to receive what he described as “political heavyweights” from the state’s All Progressive Congress (APC)

According to him, “It is true that there are some issues at the national level. But those issues are going to be resolved. The election is not tomorrow. The election is not next week. It is not next year.

“I don’t want us to distract ourselves with all of that. It’s time for governance. We have no excuse not to deliver. We want you to hold us accountable.

“Party politics is different, but I have to share a few things with you. There are issues surrounding who will be National Secretary and who will not be. But those issues will be resolved. There is nothing like the PDP will not be able to file candidates.

“By the grace of God, I will be on the ballot. Nothing is going to stop you from voting for your son and the person you want. I want to correct the impression that I’m moving from this party. I’m not moving.

“If our president, Bola Tinibu, did not stay in opposition, he will not be president today.

“If our governor, Prince Otu, did not stay in opposition, he wouldn’t have been governor today. So nobody can come and coerce me and say that I must move to any party.

“In Obanliku Local Government, we chose one of your sons and sent him to the national assembly as member of the House of Representatives.

“Today, there are insinuations that says that there will be no tickets for us on the platform of PDP. Please, there will be tickets for us. If he wants to leave the party, it’s for personal reasons. I am not part of it.

“It wasn’t the name of any party that voted for us. The people that voted for us are seated here. We will go by your decision and not the decision of anybody in Abuja or Calabar.”

The lawmaker explained that it was very necessary for him to interface with the people whose mandate he held to give account of his stewardship for the period of two years in the 10th assembly.

Agom-Jarigbe charged the people to draw his attention to areas of concern where he needed to focus on in the next two years.

Meanwhile, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu has declared his intention to formerly join the PDP in Cross River.

Akpagu, who joined Agom-Jarigbe at the town hall meeting, expressed satisfaction at the overwhelming demonstration of love and support for the senator.

“I want to thank you all for this show of love you have shown to your son, Sen. Agom-Jarigbe. I congratulate you for this solidarity.

“When we go back, we will discuss with others and plan a bigger rally to join the PDP. I won’t move alone. I will bring others, including (one) engr. Jacob to the PDP,” he declared.

Speaking, the state party Chairman of the PDP, Mr Vena Ikem, described Prof Akpagu as “an uncommon Vice Chancellor, who used the office to empower the people.

According to him, “I can tell you here that Ipong ward was blessed with two leaders, one a governor and the other a Vice Chancellor, and both occupied a place of prominence.

“While the former governor was busy doing food on the table, Prof Akpagu preoccupied his thought process with giving the people employments.”

PDP ‘wahala’ escalates as Wike ‘pulls out of all agreements’

…promises to fight on till justice is served

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his total withdrawal from all previously reached agreements aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pledging to continue the struggle until justice is achieved.

In a personally signed statement on Sunday titled “PDP Crisis: My Position,” Wike expressed concerns over what he described as consistent breaches of agreed resolutions, specifically blaming Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for fueling the party’s internal problems.

“I told Governor Makinde that non-adherence to agreements is the root of the PDP’s current troubles and that he remains the chief culprit in this regard,” Wike stated.

He stressed that the agreements, including the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary in line with the Supreme Court judgment, withdrawal of all legal cases involving Rivers State by the party’s National Legal Adviser, and the immediate discontinuation of the suit seeking a state of emergency in Rivers, must be upheld without deviation.

Wike maintained that since the concerned parties had failed to honour these resolutions, he was left with no choice but to withdraw from the reconciliation process and continue his fight for justice within the party.

The statement read in part, “Since after the 2023 General election, the PDP has been wantonly swinging from one part of a slippery precipice to another, owing fundamentally to dishonesty and lack of trust amongst its key stakeholders. To stem this ugly trend, efforts have been made to arrest this pernicious virus of dishonesty and treachery and enthrone fidelity to agreements with a view to stabilizing the party and moving it forward.

PDP must ensure Makinde gets 2027 presidential ticket — Group

The Brave New Vision Support Group, a group mobilising for Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State ahead of 2027 presidential election, has called for support from the South-West members of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

The Convener and chieftain of PDP, Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, told NAN on Saturday in Lagos, that the zone must ensure Makinde emerged the party’s presidential candidate in 2027.

Appealing to the newly inaugurated Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe-led South-West PDP Zonal Executive Committee, Pearse said that the task before party leaders in the zone should be to mobilise for Makinde’s emergence.

“The primary objective of any political party is to win elections so that it can implement its policies to improve the quality of life for the electorate.

“At this point in time; as we enter the 2027 election cycle, the main task ahead of Ajisafe and his committee is to unite the South-West PDP political family.

“We must strengthen our structures in preparation for electoral victory at all levels of government.

“Makinde remains our best product for PDP in 2027 presidential election. We must work towards actualising this project.

“The zonal exco must hit the ground running and start collaborating and mobilising all regions behind Makinde to liberate the masses,” Pearse said.

PDP ‘wahala’: Saraki, Dickson, Dankwambo storm Enugu, meet with Mbah

…southeast is vital to PDP – Ex-Senate president

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Special Reconciliation Committee, headed by ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, on Friday met with Enugu State Governor and Southeast party leader, Dr. Peter Mbah, as part of efforts to resolve internal crises threatening the party’s unity in the region.

The closed-door session, held at the Enugu Government House, had in attendance key committee members including former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, and former Gombe State Governor, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo.

The visit comes amid growing tensions within the PDP in the Southeast, following a recent communiqué from the Zonal Executive Council (ZEC), which re-nominated former National Youth Leader, Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, to complete the tenure of the National Secretary.

The leaders warned that failure to honor their decision could force them to reconsider their continued loyalty to the party.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Saraki said the committee’s mandate was to ensure a peaceful and united front ahead of the party’s forthcoming National Executive Council meeting and potential convention.

“We are here as members of the PDP Reconciliation and Strategy Committee, set up by the PDP Governors’ Forum, to ensure that the coming NEC and convention are smooth and free of rancor,” Saraki stated.

“In line with that, we are here in Enugu State to consult with one of our leaders, Governor Peter Mbah, who is the leader of Southeast PDP.

“This is the first state we are coming to because we appreciate the importance of the Southeast in our PDP family. As you all know, the Southeast has played a key role as the bedrock of the popularity and the strength of our party.

“In recognition of that, we are here to consult with him and first to commend him on the leadership role he has been playing in the party. More importantly also, to commend what he is doing in Enugu State, which is a reflection for Nigerians to see what happens when you have a PDP government.

“In doing that, we discussed how we will ensure that we carry out the assignment given to us and go ahead to have our NEC and our convention. We will have one that is rancor-free and smooth, peaceful and lays the foundation for the PDP that we all are wishing for.

“We have had a very good discussion. Frankly, we have had a very, very useful discussion. We are going away with some of the suggestions that we have here and hopefully work on that.

“With this, we can say here in Enugu we laid the foundation for a greater new PDP that is coming.

“What we have also seen today is that there is nothing insurmountable in the challenge ahead and the spirit, the commitment of all of us, especially our leaders, is very very inspiring,” he stated.
