    Anambra PDP rejects coalition talks

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in  Anambra has rejected any planned political coalitions with other political parties and strongly advises its members and stakeholders to steer clear of such coalitions.

The party made this known  in a communique issued at the end of an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting.

The communique was signed by the Chairman of the party  Anambra, Chidi Chidebe.

The party said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP was not engaged in any coalition discussions with any political party and consequently, the PDP in Anambra was not involved in any coalition talks.

The party called on party faithful to remain focused, resolute, and unwavering in their support for the efforts of the national leadership, the Board of Trustees, PDP Governors’ Forum, and other stakeholders who were working to reposition the party.

“We strongly advice our members and stakeholders to steer clear of such activities, as they lack legitimacy, approval, or endorsement from the leadership of the party at both the state and national levels.

“As the saying goes, no man abandons his house because of weed, we continue to pray that any man or woman raised and nurtured by this party whose intention is now to destroy it shall be put to shame,” it said.

The PDP SEC in Anambra expressed solidarity and respect for the party leaders including Sen. Ben Ndi Obi, the Southeast Zonal Leader, Gov. Peter Mba, and the National Leadership of the party.

It commended their efforts and aligned fully with their pursuit of peace, unity, and restoration of the PDP as ‘the true hope of the Nigerian people’.

The  PDP warned members to steer clear of any form of coalition meetings or political gatherings that was not approved by the party leadership as participation in such gatherings constitutes anti-party activity.

“Any State, Local Government, or Ward officer whose name is enlisted or associated with any unauthorized coalition group will be deemed to have exited the party.

“Consequently, any office such an individual occupies shall be declared vacant with immediate effect.

“SEC remains committed to upholding party discipline, unity, and the democratic values of the PDP, we urge members to remain vigilant, loyal, and focused as we collectively work towards a rejuvenated and victorious party,” it said.

  • Secretaryship tussle: South-East PDP threatens to exit party over Ude-Okoye

Secretaryship tussle: South-East PDP threatens to exit party over Ude-Okoye

The South-East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has threatened to review its relationship with the party if its recommendation of Sunday Ude-Okoye as national secretary is not honoured.

The body made this known at the end of its meeting held at the government house, Enugu, the capital of Enugu State on Wednesday.

While reading out the communique, the zonal chairman, Ali Odefa, said that the South-East has consistently served as a stronghold of the PDP with unalloyed loyalty to the party since inception and even as members in other regions continue to defect.

The group also want the National Working Committee to uphold its decision and ensure that the Deputy National Secretary of the PDP functions as the Acting National Secretary pending the ratification of the nominee for the Office of the National Secretary by NEC in line with the recommendations of the PDP Governors’ Forum as adopted by the NWC.

“The South East ZEC exhaustively deliberated on the directive of the NWC and came to the conclusion that it offered a sure pathway to peace, unity, stability, and progress of our party. Consequently, the ZEC unanimously recommended Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the candidate to complete the term of office of the National Secretary.”

The South-East caucus threatened to reconsider its continued membership in the party if its position is further delayed, despite its longstanding loyalty to the PDP.

“The South East has consistently served as a stronghold of the PDP from inception. In PDP’s near three-decade existence, we have given our loyalty and all to the party.

“Currently, while the party has been losing key members post-2023 general elections, the South East PDP is at the vanguard of strengthening the Party by rallying major opposition figures such as in Enugu where the Labour Party, LP, gubernatorial candidate, two LP House of Representatives Members, numerous members of the House of Assembly, among other stalwarts into the PDP fold.

“Therefore, we hope that this time around, the position of the South East PDP regarding the Office of the National Secretary is accorded the honour and immediacy it deserves. This would bring to a closure to the needless lingering dispute over the matter.

“However, in the event that our position is not promptly implemented by the Party, the South East PDP, as a family, will be compelled to reconsider our relationship with the PDP going forward,” the communique concluded.

There has been a tussle between Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu over the position of the PDP National Secretary, with both men laying claim to the position.

  • South-East bloc threatens to dump PDP

South-East bloc threatens to dump PDP

The South-East bloc of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has threatened to reconsider its relationship with the party if the zone was denied the position of the party’s National Secretary.

This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of South-East PDP Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) meeting held on Wednesday in Enugu.

The document was signed by Chief Ali Odefa, Chairman, PDP, South-East Zone.

He said the ZEC unanimously recommended Mr Sunday Udeh-Okoye for the office of national secretary of the party.

“Therefore, we hope that this time around, the position of the South-East PDP regarding the Office of the National Secretary is accorded the honour and immediacy it deserves.

“However, in the event that our position is not promptly implemented by the party, the South- East PDP, as a family, will be compelled to reconsider our relationship with the PDP going forward,” he said.

Odefa urged PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to uphold its decision at its 600th meeting on April 29 which allowed the party’s Deputy National Secretary to function as Acting National Secretary.

This, he said, would be pending the time a substantive national secretary would be confirmed.

“The South-East ZEC further noted that the zone had to go through this process for the umpteenth time, unlike what obtains in the filling of vacant national offices by other zones.

“It is recalled that the South East ZEC met in October 2023 and nominated Udeh-Okoye to serve out the remaining term of the National Secretary.

“This position was reaffirmed during the Feb. 20, 2024 meeting of the PDP South-East ZEC. We also reiterated this during the meeting of ZEC in Enug today,” Odefa said.

The zonal chairman said that South-East had consistently served as PDP stronghold from the inception of the party.

He said that while the party had been losing key members following post-2023 general election, the South-East PDP was at the vanguard of strengthening the party by rallying major opposition figures into its fold.

“In Enugu State, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party is back to the PDP; two members of the House of Representatives are equally back from Labour Party.

“Furthermore, PDP seats in the Enugu State House of Assembly have grown from 10 at the inception of the Assembly to 20 today,’’ he said.

He recalled that on March 21 the Supreme Court brought to a close the protracted legal tussle over the position of the National Secretary of the PDP.

According to him, the apex court, in its ruling, held that the issue of the leadership of a political party was the internal affairs of the affected party.

“The PDP Governors’ Forum, at its April 14, 2025 meeting held in Ibadan recommended that the South-East PDP should nominate a candidate.

“This followed the consideration of the report of the panel it set up to review the Supreme Court judgment.

“Their position is that the candidate would serve out the remaining tenure of the National Secretary of the Party zoned to the region,’’ Odefa said.

Uproar as Edo assembly appoints new PDP whip

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday nominated Mr Eugene Inegbeboh (PDP, Igueben) as the new Minority Whip of the Edo State House of Assembly.

His nomination came following the defection of the former Minority Whip, Mr Yekini Idiaye (Akoko-Edo I), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the plenary in Benin, the Speaker of the House, Mr Blessing Agbebaku, read a letter from the state PDP chairman, Dr Anthony Aziegbemi, officially nominating Inegbeboh for the position.

The announcement, however, triggered a rowdy session after Mr Addeh Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I) challenged the legitimacy of the nomination, claiming that Aziegbemi’s chairmanship was being contested in court.

His objection was quickly countered by other lawmakers, including Minority Leader Charity Aiguobarueghian, who described Isibor’s claim as misleading.

Agbebaku intervened to calm the situation, stating that the House had no authority over internal party matters and urged members to let the issue rest.

Meanwhile, the House also passed a bill to establish the Edo State Public-Private Partnership Agency, aimed at enhancing infrastructural development across the state.
