  • We won’t rebuild PDP house with termites infested woods – Fayose

Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has dismissed comments by those gathered in Lagos Tuesday, by Senator Buruji Kashamu and paraded as PDP leaders in the Southwest, saying; “the Peoples Democratic Party PDP house will not be rebuilt with termites infested woods.”

Fayose’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, who reacted to the call by the Kashamu group that the National Caretaker Committee, led by Sen Ahmed Makarfi should desist from relating with Governor Fayose as it regards the South West zone, said; “Governor Ayodele Fayose will not waste his time on people whose faces are abhorred in the gathering of people of good conscience.”

He said; “Governor Fayose is more concerned with rebuilding the PDP and it is sure that the PDP house will not be reconstructed with termites infested woods.”

The Governor’s spokesperson described those gathered by Senator Buruji Kashamu in his hotel in Lagos today, as pseudo-PDP members, saying “Methinks Senator Kashamu and his men should rather face their Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN).

“As at today, Senator Buruji’s Omo Ilu Foundation’s office in Ado Ekiti is now the State Secretariat of MPN and all his men have openly declared for the party. Or is MPN no longer Mega again?”

PDP suspends former factional chairman over alleged gross misconduct

The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has suspended Chief Ken Emeakayi, a former factional chairman of the party in Anambra for a month over an alleged act of indiscipline.

Mr Dayo Adeyeye, the National Publicity Secretary, PDP National Caretaker Committee made this known at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja.

Adeyeye recalled that the party had on July 27 dissolved all the parallel PDP executives in Anambra.

Adeyeye, however, said that three days after the dissolution of all factional executive in the state, Emeakayi went ahead to summon a meeting of his faction, which was in clear violation of the decision of National Caretaker Committee.

He said when the committee heard about the development, it issued a query to Emeakayi on his action, and that rather than respond to the issue, Emeakayi disparaged the national leadership of the party.

“His reply not only showed total disrespect to the National Caretaker Committee, he disparaged the personality of the chairman and the secretary.

“He issued words of abuse totally unbecoming of a person who claims to be holding an important office as chairman of a state party.

“We found this to be gross indiscipline. And today we took a decision on this matter in accordance with the provisions of our Constitution.

“So, the National Caretaker Committee at its meeting today took cognisance of the violation of the Provision of Section 58 (1A, B, C, G, H, I, J, M) of the PDP Constitution 2012 (as amended) by Chief Ken Emeakayi.

“We took a decision to immediately suspend him for a period of one month, in accordance with Section 57 (3) of the PDP Constitution 2012 (as amended),’’ Adeyeye said.

He said that the case of Emeakayi had also been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party for further disciplinary action.

Adeyeye said that the decision was taken in order to sanitise the situation in Anambra.

“It is also to send a signal to all party members and trouble makers all over the country that those who decide to `trouble Israel’ will not find peace themselves.

“We will henceforth not condone any act of indiscipline.’’

Adeyeye also disclosed that seven aspirants have so far obtained PDP nomination and expression of interest forms for the Anambra Governorship election scheduled for Nov. 28.

They are Dr Alex Obiogolu, Mr Oseloka Obaze, Okechukwu Emeka, Dr Patrick Ubah, Mr Akolisa Ufodike, Lynda Ikpeazu and Mrs Stella Oduah.

  • Stop cutting corners to achieve political ambitions – Makarfi tells PDP members

Stop cutting corners to achieve political ambitions – Makarfi tells PDP members

…Says internal wranglings caused party’s monumental loss in 2015 general elections

The chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi has cautioned party members against cutting corners to achieve their political ambitions.

Makarfi spoke at the party’s Abuja secretariat on Wednesday while receiving PDP stakeholders from Oyo and Osun state chapters.

Warning against cutting corners to achieve ambitions, the party chair said such actions could be counterproductive, stressing that the culture of impunity was partly responsible for the party’s past crises.

He said, “We must stop cutting corners. We live in a high litigious society. When we cut corners thinking that nobody will see you, a lot of people have seen you. At a time you least expect, somebody will drag you to court again. Therefore, what is worth doing is worth doing well”.

Stating that internal wrangling could only weaken the PDP, Makarfi said nobody stands to gain from disunity.

We are not in politics to suffer but (to) form government. PDP was the dominant party but internal crisis caused us to lose election,” he added.

He stressed the need to consolidate the party’s recent victory at the Supreme Court by doing the right thing all the time.

Makarfi said, “Political victory means expanding the scope of the party, reconciling with the reconcilable and attracting members into the party that will enable us regain political power at the centre by overwhelming majority,” he stated.

‎”Some of us that have been occupied by power acquisition, whether they are in the party or they are contemplating to come into the party, ‎they are more glued to the acquisition of political power, that can derail the party.

‎”Let’s build a strong and virile political party. Let there be a level playing field for people to freely choose who they want to present as party’s candidates. That is the surest way to get to power come 2019. That is what internal democracy entails.

‎”While opening our doors wide to all and sundry, the party must be conscious that the structure must not be compromised in a way that diminishes the enthusiasm.

I will stick to the party guidelines and constitution in doing whatever we do. We must consult on fundamental issues, use consensus as much as ‎possible and move forward”.

The party chairman assured the gathering of neutrality, objectivity and transparency in the running of the affairs of the party by entrenching the culture of inclusiveness.

Makarfi enjoined those shopping for platforms to feed their political ambitions rather than building the party to have a rethink.

He warned that failing to follow due process in resolving political issues could lead to litigation, which might eventually lead to crisis situation.

Those at the meeting include Senators Iyiola Omisore, Akin Olasunkanmi, Chief Olu Alabi, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Senator Femi Lanlehin, Senator Hosea Agbooola among others.

Some of the participants from Oyo state announced that they came to represent former Governors Adebayo Alao Akala and Rashidi Ladoja at the meeting.

  • Osun APC, PDP condole Aregbesola over mother’s death

The leaders of both the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State have sent condolence messages to Governor Rauf Aregbesola over the demise of his mother, Alhaja Saratu Aregbesola earlier today (Tuesday).

Although no statement had been issued on the burial arrangement, sources close to the family said the deceased would be buried later in the evening according to Islamic rites.

The APC Chairman in the state, Mr Gboyega Famodun, said in a condolence message in Osogbo that the deceased lived a fulfilled life.

“As we mourn this natural event of the octogenarian, we also have cause to be grateful to Allah for the life of this great woman.

“She had the unique grace of giving birth to a child that has become a jewel not only to the people of Osun and Yoruba land in particular but also Nigeria generally.

“On behalf of the good people of Osun and the numerous supporters of the APC in the state and beyond, we extend our sympathy to our beloved governor and his family for the loss of Alhaja Saratu,’’ he stated.

The Peoples Democratic Party in the state, on its part, described the death of the governor’s mother as painful.

The party, in a condolence message signed by its Chairman, Mr Soji Adagunodo, said the deceased was an industrious, virtuous and religious woman.

Adagunodo said the demise of “ Mama Olobi’’ was not only a loss to her family but also to the entire state.

“May Allah grant the deceased eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the loss,’’ it said.

The Osun House of Assembly also commiserated with the governor over the demise of his mother.

A statement signed by Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the House Committee Chairman on Information and Strategy, described Aregbesola’s mother as charitable and benevolent, adding that she would be greatly missed.

“Mama Olobi was a mother in a million who cared for everyone that came in contact with her.

“She was a very cool, calm and collected personality and a successful woman in kola nut business

“The Assembly prays God to grant Alhaja Saratur Al-Janat Firdaus,’’ the statement said.

The Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association described the death as a monumental loss.

A condolence message by the association’s President, Mr Olalekan Hammed, said the deceased invested in all her wards.

“Alhaja Aregbesola was a highly religious person and a proud mother who possessed all motherly qualities and invested in her wards.

“We thank God for her life, ’’ the statement added.

  • Thugs’ attack: ‘APC already emulating PDP, party may fail in 2019 if…’ – Sanni warns

Sequel to the crisis bedeviling the Kaduna Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the recent attacks by some thugs on journalists covering a press congress organised by Senators Shehu Sanni (Kaduna Central) and Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North), one of the affected Senators (Sanni) has warned the national leadership of the party to fix the rot in the party or get kicked out like Nigerians did to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 2015.

Sani, who represents Kaduna Central in the Senate in company of some APC members in Kaduna, including Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North), discussed with the national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun on Monday in an aftermath of the crisis on Saturday.

He condemned Saturday’s local government elections in the state, saying that it did not hold.

Sani alleged that the delegates list for the election was doctored and did not follow due process.

“They sat down in the palace of their gods to write names and send it down here for us to accept; that can never happen,” he said.

He said that such practice contributed to the problems of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and warned that the APC could go the same way if its leadership failed to address the problem.

“This was the seed of the destruction of the PDP, where individuals considered themselves as gods and any other person a slave; that will never happen in Kaduna state.

“We are here to present our case and to appeal to the instrument of leadership of this party to intervene in the Kaduna issue before it becomes too late.

“We are here to also state it to the party´s national leadership that we are under siege in Kaduna.

“The use of thugs and violence by agents and close associates of the state government is one thing we cannot tolerate,” Sani said.

He decried the recent raiding of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Kaduna by thugs during a press briefing after the councils’ election, during which journalists were injured.

He said that such was the trait of the APC, and urged its leadership to set up an investigation panel to bring the perpetrators of the disturbances.

The lawmaker alleged that the thugs were acting in concert with the police in the state.

“If we continue on this part, where one person feels he is a god, I think we are simply repeating the very problem that destroyed the party we ejected out of power,” he said.

He maintained that there was a need for APC to provide the vehicle for real change for the country to change and tasked members to change the manner they played politics.

Sani stressed that those who resolved to the use of violence or thugs to liquidate perceived political opponent were on the wrong side of history.

He said that members of his faction of the party in the state were not agents of violence but were loyal and peaceful.

He insisted that if the APC must win the 2019 election, it must, apart from fulfilling its campaign promises, set an example for discipline, comradeship and a sense of belonging to all members.

Sani said that what was happening in the party´s leadership in the state was unbecoming and should be addressed before it became late.

He appealed to those in authority to ´´know that the God that brought the APC to power was still alive and will always listen to the cries of the oppressed and marginalised.

“We are here in the spirit of that, and we hope that we will get the cooperation of the national party´s leadership to come to the rescue of the party in Kaduna before it is too late,” he said.

  • Lagos PDP crisis: Makarfi orders hand over of party secretariat to Bode George, BOT

Lagos PDP crisis: Makarfi orders hand over of party secretariat to Bode George, BOT

Chief Segun Adewale, the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, on Saturday handed over the state secretariat of the party to the Board of Trustees (BoT).

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Adewale is the factional chairman of PDP loyal to Sen. Ali Modu Sherrif, recently sacked by the Supreme Court as the National Chairman of the party.

Adewale, addressing journalists shortly after moving his possession out of the secretariat, said that this was in line with the directive from the national headquarters of the party.

He said that a letter from the party headquarters had directed him to hand over to BoT members in the state.

Adewale explained that the National Caretaker Committee of PDP had ordered that the state secretariat should be handed over to Chief Bode George and other members of the party’s BoT in Lagos.

He said that the order was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary, National Caretaker Committee, Sen. Ben Obi, and addressed to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni.

The letter reads in part: “The attention of the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to the occupation of the PDP Secretariat at No. 56, Adekunle Fajuyi Crescent, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, by a group.

“Section 32(5) (e) of the PDP Constitution (2012 as amended) states that the Board of Trustees shall be vested with the assets of the party and shall serve as custodians of such assets.

“This is to avoid negative consequences that may arise from the tussle for the secretariat and in keeping with the PDP Constitution.

“The National Caretaker Committee hereby requests that you hand over the secretariat to Chief Bode George and other members of PDP Board of Trustees ( BOT) in Lagos State.”

According to Adewale, I am going to hand over the key to the BoT as instructed in the letter.

“`As you can see me, I have packed out my things. I am going to drop the key now,” the PDP factional chairman said.

He instructed all his supporters to stay away from the secretariat in the interest of peace, even if the key is given to someone else.

“It is quite unfortunate that those, who as at last week Saturday, were campaigning against PDP while in Labour Party, now want to take over the secretariat.

“I was the one mobilising for the party during last Saturday local government elections in the state.

“Even at that, I am ready to leave the secretariat, the police asked us to sign an undertaking that there will be peace in Ikeja.

“I am not fighting with anybody, because if we continue this way, we will continue to lose elections in Lagos,” Adewale said.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the crisis rocking the party at both the national and state levels made those loyal to Mr Moshood Salvador to make an alliance with the Labour Party.

Salvador is the factional chairman loyal to Sen. Ahmed Markafi, who was declared by the Supreme Court declared as the authentic chairman.

  • Udom, Umahi, other PDP governors to visit Buhari in London today

…as Fayose, Wike did not make the list

Indications emerge on Monday that some governors elected on the platform of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will on Tuesday (today) visit President Muhammadu Buhari in London.

It was gathered that the visit was being organised by the office of the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Munguno (retd.).

It was not clear if the NSA was responsible for the governors who were picked for the trip.

According to a report by The Punch, the six governors were picked from the six geo-political zones of the country.

Listed among the six governors are Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo).

The four governors are from the South-South, South-East, North-West and South-West respectively.

However, the identities of the two other governors, who are expected to come from the North-East and North-Central could not be verified

A governor, who is not among those travelling to see Buhari, said those chosen for the journey were picked outside what he described as the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

He added that he was surprised when he heard about the journey from one of his counterparts, stating that if the secretariat and the governors had been contacted, the governors would have picked at least one of the PDP governors that had been critical of the President.

He said, “Our colleagues are going to London to see the President. But I’m not happy that someone like the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, or his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Nyesom Wike, is not on the delegation.

Though there are PDP governors on the delegation, we know ourselves and also know those we know are truly part of the opposition and those close to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The governors had been directed to be at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, tomorrow (Tuesday). From there, they will fly to the United Kingdom.”

The governors are expected to have lunch with the President before returning to the country on Wednesday.

A governor, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Monday night, confirmed that some governors mooted the idea, but said he would not want to speak on the planned visit.

Yes, they mentioned it (visit); some APC governors mooted the idea but I don’t want to say anything on that for now,” the governor stated.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Buhari on Sunday, hosted the APC’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, other party leaders and some governors elected on the platform of the APC inside the Abuja House in London, United Kingdom.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that President Buhari traveled for medical check-up in London on Sunday, May 7, more than a month he came back into the country from a previous medical vacation.

Lagos LG Poll: APC wins 369 councillorship seats, PDP, Accord take 7

Details of final results of Saturday’s local government election in Lagos released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Monday indicated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won four councillorship seats in the polls.

A statement issued by the commission ‘s Director of Publicity, Mr Oladapo Olatunde, indicated that Accord Party also won three councillorship seats in the election.

According to the statement, the PDP won the four councillorship seats in Agege Local Government Area (LGA) Ward C, Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA)Ward A, Ikorodu LGA Ward G, and Oriade LCDA Ward A.

Aside the seven councillorship seats, the All Progressives Congress swept all the chairmanship seats and the remaining 369 councillorship seats in the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in the state.

The analysis of the results showed that nine out of the 12 parties that participated in the election did not record any win.

The LASIEC chairman, retired Justice Ayotunde Phillips, according to the statement, congratulated all winners and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

She urged them to do so by making impact with their leadership in their respective areas.

Phillips thanked the political parties and their agents for the peaceful way they conducted themselves during the election.

The commission’s Chairman also commended security agents for helping to maintain law and order during the election.

She thanked the media and civil society organisations that partnered the commission to conduct the polls.

Ayotunde said the election was largely successfully conducted, but admitted initial delays in the deployment of materials to polling units.

She attributed the delays to the downpour on the day of the polls, which affected easy movement of materials to polling units.

The chairman thanked all Lagosians for the support given to the commission to ensure successful conduct. (NAN)

  • Bode George should be next PDP National Chairman – Ebenezer Babatope

A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Ebenezer Babatope, on Sunday gave credence to the chairmanship ambition of the former deputy chairman of the party, Bode George.

Mr. Babatope, a former director of organisation in the defunct Obafemi Awolowo’s Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that he was fully in support of Mr. George’s ambition.

He described the former chairman of Nigerian Port Authority as the best man for the vacant chairmanship slot of the PDP based on his fatherly figure.

We will struggle hard to produce a strong, effective and result-oriented party chairman, in fact, the Supreme Court’s verdict has affirmed Ahmed Makarfi as the real power house of PDP.

We are now expecting another chairman and we are going to get that. I am giving my full support for the chairmanship position to George because he is the most experienced.

George being my choice does not, however, have overriding opinion over other members of the party, everybody is welcome to support the candidates of their choice.

I am picking George because of his experience as a party faithful who will ensure reconciliation of all aggrieved members of the party. Experience is the best teacher,’’ Mr. Babatope said.

Mr. Babatope, also a former Minister of Transport and Aviation during the late General Sani Abacha’s administration, advised that whoever emerged as the PDP chairman should ensure full reconciliation of all the members.

Whoever emerges as the chairman of PDP must ensure the full reconciliation of all the members. We need a full house now to fulfil the yearnings of the party.

The chairman should be a rallying point who will be father to all and I know George very well, he is up to the task.
