Lagos PDP chairmen reject LG election results

The Forum of Lagos State PDP Local Government Chairmen has vowed to challenge the outcome of Saturday’s council elections in court, alleging subversion of public will.

Chief Adegboyega Adegbesan, Forum Chairman and PDP leader in Oshodi-Isolo LGA, disclosed this during a joint press conference on Tuesday in Lagos.

The event held at the PDP Secretariat in Lagos Mainland LGA and attended by party chairmen and state chieftains.

“What occurred on Saturday was no election. It was a charade and a criminal conspiracy against the people’s sovereign will,” Adegbesan said.

He declared that the PDP would not recognise the “fraudulent election” or its “alleged winners”, describing the process as deeply compromised and undemocratic.

Adegbesan added that the PDP had compiled video recordings, testimonies, and evidence of irregularities to legally challenge the election and retrieve its stolen mandate.

He accused the APC-led government and Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of colluding to rig the elections through orchestrated violence and manipulation.

According to him, armed thugs brazenly attacked polling units, snatched ballot boxes, and beat voters while security agents and LASIEC officials stood by silently.

“In PDP strongholds across the state, ballot box stuffing occurred at a massive scale. Pre-thumbprinted ballots were delivered in bags,” he said.

He claimed that LASIEC officials either did nothing or aided those trying to legitimise fraudulent votes and suppress genuine voter expression.

“In some LGAs, PDP agents were assaulted, chased away, and denied access to collation centres,” he added.

He stated that figures were crudely manipulated, with votes in some wards exceeding the number of registered voters on record.

“In many areas, election materials arrived late or not at all, and documentation was deliberately incomplete to frustrate PDP supporters and reduce turnout,” he said.

He said LASIEC had lost its moral and constitutional right to act as a neutral electoral umpire, due to widespread irregularities.

Adegbesan called on the National Assembly to protect grassroots democracy and enact policies to stop systemic electoral sabotage in local elections.

“This issue goes beyond PDP. It is about justice, fairness, and the future of democracy in Nigeria. If we ignore this injustice, we risk normalising rigging and silencing voters permanently,” he warned.

He declared that the PDP was committed to fighting for electoral integrity and restoring the people’s voice in Lagos governance.

Alhaji Isiaka Shodiya, PDP chairman in Alimosho LGA, also demanded the scrapping of state electoral commissions to preserve grassroots democracy.

Mr Alade Yusuf, PDP councillorship candidate for Ward F in Yaba LCDA, alleged that no collation occurred at his ward before a result was declared.

“We demand the total cancellation of the Ward F election and a fresh poll with proper security and civil society monitoring,” Yusuf said.

Other aggrieved PDP LGA chairmen and candidates from various councils echoed similar calls for the elections to be nullified.

According to LASIEC, APC won all 57 chairmanship seats and secured 375 of the 376 councillorship positions across the state in Saturday’s election.

PDP cautions candidates ahead FCT council polls

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned its candidates for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections against pursuing personal ambitions that could undermine the party’s chances of victory in Feb. 2026.

Chairman of the PDP FCT chapter, Ismail Dogara, issued the warning on Monday in Abuja while handing over INEC nomination forms to the party’s candidates.

Dogara announced that the PDP would field six chairmanship and 62 councillorship candidates, expressing confidence in a sweeping victory.

“During my campaign before emerging as state chairman, I said it time and again, this party is too big to remain silent. And that is why we will not be silent.

“The nomination forms are here, including those for vice chairmen. Our goal is to win. Personal ambition, if it doesn’t align with the party’s, can cost us the election,” Dogara said.

Former House of Representatives member Micha Jibah, urged the candidates to be bold and persistent in their campaign efforts, commending their courage in stepping forward.

Speaking on behalf of the candidates, Gwagwalada chairmanship, Kasim Mohammed, thanked party leaders at all levels for the opportunity to contest under the PDP banner. He called for unity within the party to ensure victory.

“We have been mobilising voters for PDP ahead of Feb. 2026, but we also need your continued support. Politics is about people, and this is the people’s party. We believe they will give us victory.”

Mohammed also appealed to party leaders to remain responsive throughout the campaign period.

“Please, if there’s anything we need, be there for us. Don’t hesitate to respond in times of need,” he said.

  • PDP, APP reject Lagos LG election results

PDP, APP reject Lagos LG election results

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Action Peoples Party in Lagos State have rejected outcomes of the Saturday’s Local Government Elections in the state, saying the outcomes did  not reflect the will of residents.

Officials of both parties spoke with NAN on Sunday.

Recall APC won all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship seats in the council election held on Saturday, according to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

Reacting, Chief Sunday Olaifa, the PDP Deputy Chairman (Lagos West), told NAN  the results of the election  were manipulated to favour APC, saying the ruling party did not win as claimed.

Olaifa said: “PDP in Lagos State rejects in totality the outcome of July 12 council elections in the state. It is nothing but a mockery of democracy going by the  manipulations and scenes of  inducement of voters  that we saw.

“For a party that has been in power for over 20 years under various names to depend on rigging before winning a local government election, shows the party is already rejected.

“APC didn’t win that election. The election didn’t hold in many polling units and results were written.

“For instance, at Ajao Estate of Isolo LCDAs, out of 36 polling units, till the close of the election, LASIEC officers were not  in about 22 polling units. This happened in few other areas.”

Olaifa, who noted that the process leading into the election was flawed with many candidates not cleared, said that the election fell short of all known democratic standards.

The PDP chieftain said that the ruling party would be rejected in 2027 general elections given  the”true  outcome” of the council polls.

Similarly, Mrs Abiola Adeyemi, the APP Chairman, described LASIEC’s disenfranchisement of some candidates properly nominated by their political parties as uncalled for.

Adeyemi told NAN that the just-concluded election was not an improvement in any way on previous exercises, urging the commission to go back to the drawing board.

“This election is not free fair and credible by any standard. It is the worst of elections ever conducted in Lagos State.

“So many candidates were not screened and their candidacy not validated by LASIEC for different flimsy reasons even after those candidates were duly nominated by their political parties.

“How can an election where so many candidates were disqualified by the umpire for no just cause and party   logo missing on the ballot be regarded as credible.

“We complained ,  but the commission turned deaf ears to all appeals to accept our candidates.

“Our logo, APP logo, was not even on the ballot paper in Badagry.  LASIEC officers even came late to many polling units,” Adeyemi said.

According to her, the exercise  many stakeholders, especially the political parties, were disappointed in the conduct of the election.

LASIEC Chairman, Retired Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, disclosed on Sunday admitted that logistics issues cussed late arrival of electoral personnel and materials in some areas which was quickly attended to.

  • 2027: PDP vows to unseat APC in Katsina

2027: PDP vows to unseat APC in Katsina

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its loyalists to remain committed and stand firm to reclaim their mandate in 2027 general elections.

Its governorship candidate during the 2023 general elections in Katsina, Sen. Yakubu Lado-Danmarke stated this in Katsina on Sunday, during a rally which drew party’s officials from the 34 Local Government Areas of the state.

The PDP former governorship candidate further declared that: “I am still a card carrying member of PDP and I have no plan to leave the party for any coalition.”

According to him, all his supporters across the state are still members of the party, and will continue to remain.

Recall that a faction of the party led by Dr Mustapha Inuwa, on Sunday, officially announced its decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Lado-Danmarke said the news going round that PDP had collapsed to another party was not true, hence the party members and the general public should disregard such fake news.

He attributed the failure of the PDP in the last general elections in the state to lack of competence of the campaign coordinator in the state.

The former governorship candidate explained that PDP remained optimistic in the next general elections, while calling on members of the party to be committed to the success of the party at all levels.

He said : “I want to assure you that there is no political party in this country that can reduce the current hardship faced by the people, except our party, the PDP.

“Everyone of you knows the kind of good governance experienced during the leadership of PDP at the national, state and local government levels.

“I believe if the eight years of PDP were to be rewinded, Nigerians will definitely feel as if they were in paradise. Therefore, you should not allow anyone to change your mind.”

He called on the party officials to cascade the message to supporters across local government, ward and unit levels.

Earlier, the PDP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Nura Amadi-Kurfi said the party was too big to join any political party as coalition, saying: “if anyone wants us to join hands as coalition, it must be under the PDP”.

  • PDP breaks APC’s clean sweep, clinch councillorship seat in Yaba

PDP breaks APC’s clean sweep, clinch councillorship seat in Yaba

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) achieved a surprising win during the Lagos State Local Government elections, securing a single councillorship seat out of the 376 available across the state.

This breakthrough occurred in Ward D of the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), where Babatunde Dosunmu, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated the APC candidate to claim victory

Dosunmu, who recently defected from the APC to the PDP in the lead-up to the elections, delivered what many political observers have called a symbolic blow to the ruling party’s dominance in Lagos.

His defection, backed by strategic grassroots mobilisation, proved decisive in the tightly contested ward.

According to Vanguard, the Yaba area experienced minor clashes between supporters of both parties during Saturday’s polls, resulting in a brief disruption. However, the Lagos State Police Command quickly intervened, restoring calm and allowing voting to proceed.

The situation was tense but manageable, thanks to the swift response of security operatives.

Though the APC, which is the ruling party in the state, swept all 20 chairmanship seats and 375 of the 376 councillorship positions, PDP’s win in Yaba has injected fresh hope into opposition ranks.

Despite over seven million registered voters, the exercise witnessed low voter turnout in many areas, although LASIEC insisted turnout might have been underestimated due to the fast voting process.

Defection: We’ll support your decision – Osun PDP caucus tells Adeleke

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in Osun says it will support the decision of Gov. Ademola Adeleke amid speculation of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

There had been speculation of Adeleke defecting to APC ahead of the Aug. 8, 2026 governorship election in the state.

Malam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for the governor in a statement on Saturday in Osogbo, said the PDP caucus gave their support during a meeting on Thursday in Osogbo.

Rasheed also said the caucus passed a vote of confidence in Adeleke, urging him to continue consultations with all stakeholders locally and nationally.

He said the caucus also commended the governor’s leadership style and performance in office.

Rasheed added that the PDP caucus, in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting held at the Government House, resolved to follow Adeleke wherever he goes.

He, however, recognised the fact that the governor was still consulting on the next line of action.

According to him, the meeting has in attendance members of the national and state assemblies, the state executive council, executives of the party, the Special Advisers’ Forum, the Elders Caucus, and the state chapter of ALGON leadership.

  • Why PDP will continue to lose elections in Lagos – Jandor

Why PDP will continue to lose elections in Lagos – Jandor

A former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has said the main opposition party would continue to lose elections in the state because of its weak grassroots structure.

Adediran, who defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) recently, said this after casting his vote during the state’s council election on Saturday.

Adediran voted at Polling Unit 001, Ward D ,Irewe,a riverine community in Ojo area of the state.

He said for the PDP to win the state and displace the APC, it needed to work very hard at the grassroots. He, however, said he did not even see any party displacing APC in the state now or in the future.

“While in the PDP we came with fresh ideas and we did our best, but could not make headway because PDP as a party is rarely known at the grassroots.

“APC as a party in Lagos State, has over the years built strong grassroots structures. The party is a household name in every community.

“Based on this, people like us, with host of followers, joined the train to build on the legacies of previous leaders rather than stay in opposition.

“As it stands, PDP does not have the grassroots stature to contend with APC in Lagos State. I salute President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for laying the foundation of the progress of the party in the state as governor,” he said.

He applauded the outgoing Ojo LGA executives, led by the Chairman, Mr Idowu Rosolu, for the projects executed in the area.

He charged incoming executives to emulate the outgoing team through delivery of people-oriented projects.

Jandor later paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Irewe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Abideen Adikanbi Durisimi, the Osolu of Irewe Kingdom.

  • Yobe PDP passes confidence vote on Damagum

Yobe PDP passes confidence vote on Damagum

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yobe Chapter, has declared its loyalty to its Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Damagum, and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

This is contained in a communique issued by the state PDP Chairman, Sen. Umar El-Gash, at the end of the party’s expanded executive committee meetings held in Damaturu on Saturday.

He said the chapter fully aligned with the vision, policies and strategic direction of the party, and remained a committed partner in the collective effort to rescue and rebuild Nigeria.

He refuted a baseless and mischievous rumour suggesting that the chapter’s structures had collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“The party remains intact, focused, and loyal to its identity as a proud and enduring pillar of Nigeria’s democratic process.

“Any such speculation is the handiwork of political mischief makers aimed at sowing confusion and disunity within our ranks,” he said.

He charged members to show unity from the wards to the national level by promoting peace, inclusion, and collaboration.

He cautioned members of the party against indiscipline, saying discipline remained the bedrock of any organised political structure.

“The State Executive Committee, in consultation with local government chairmen, resolved to uphold party rules and discourage acts of indiscipline, anti-party behaviour and disloyalty.

“Mechanisms will be strengthened to ensure compliance with the party’s constitution and code of conduct,” he said.

The PDP chapter resolved to embark on a massive and inclusive membership mobilisation with a strong focus on women and youths.

He said that each local government chapter had been tasked to inaugurate a structured grassroots campaign to attract new members and re-energise existing structures.

  • “What do they have to offer?” – Makinde queries antecedents of coalition politicians

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said that the ongoing coalition of some politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections was not a threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Makinde stated this on Friday shortly after the South-West PDP caucus meeting held at the zonal secretariat of the party in Ibadan.

“Who are these people in this coalition? They have been in some political parties before.

“What are their antecedents, and does it mean that every time they move from one party to another they have repented, changed or they have something new to offer the people? Those are the salient questions.

“If the roof of this PDP building here is leaking, as leaders of the party are we going to abandon the building and go elsewhere to take refuge?

“We will stay inside here, fix it and let the people know that we are responsible leaders and that we have the interest of the people at heart.

“That will be my expectation for anybody that have anything against this party,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, a communique issued by the zonal Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Sanya Atofarati, the party demanded immediate release of the withheld local governments allocation in Osun.

The party asserted that the withholding of the allocation by the Federal Government was unconstitutional, unwarranted and a violation of the rights and wellbeing of the people of Osun.

It further urged members of the PDP to remain united, steadfast and continue to stand behind its zonal leaders in navigating through all issues at the zonal and national levels.

The caucus reaffirmed that the PDP in South-West is intact and urged all organs and relevant bodies of the party to remain focused.

It charged all members to continue working assiduously towards the successful conduct of the scheduled national convention, to further strengthen and reposition the party for the task ahead.

The caucus commended Gov. Makinde, his Osun counterpart, Sen. Ademola Adeleke and other leaders of the PDP in the zone for their untiring roles in ensuring the stability and growth of the party.

  • Coalition: Bode George begs Atiku, Mark, others to remain in PDP

Coalition: Bode George begs Atiku, Mark, others to remain in PDP

Former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to remain in the party and work for its progress.

George also appealed to other PDP leaders, including former Senate President, Sen. David Mark, the force behind a coalition of opposition parties, which adopted  the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for 2027, to return to the party.

He spoke at a social engagement, tagged: “Restitution of Restoration” on Thursday in Lagos.

George said PDP remained a strong political  platform, offering great opportunities for members.

According to George, it is only in the PDP that the interest of the estranged party leaders can be better served.

Several opposition figures, mainly from PDP, Labour Party, and others, including some aggrieved APC chieftains, recently adopted ADC as the opposition platform for 2027.

He said: “There is no coalition in today’s Nigeria that can be stronger than PDP.

“The PDP is a reborn political party that has weathered all storm and can never go under. All these leaders must return to this Iroko political party.

“Those forming coalition should not forget they have traveled that way before, and it amounts to nothing and it will be good they remain in the party to help build it.”

According to him, party leaders  leaving the party to join the opposition  coalition are desecrating the grave of the founding fathers of the party, who sacrificed everything to give birth to the party.

“It is a disservice to the party whose platform they used to get to higher position in the country,” he added.

George noted that that the PDP crisis, especially at national level, had been resolved.

He added that the party had bounced back to take over its place as the major opposition party in the country.

George said with the resolution of the issues in PDP and return of peace, all the reasons cited by Atiku and others for forming the coalition were no more tenable.

“The party has weathered the storm, this party is re-born, those that have attained higher position in the country on the platform of the party should do a re-think.

“They should take it easy, there is no way their congregating can pass the PDP strength.

“They have done it before, there is no major issue of contention in the PDP that can make them leave the PDP,” he said.

He, however, said the party had not changed its  decision  to zone the presidency to the south in 2027.

“What is the contention about? Why do they want to leave the PDP? They want to be presidential candidate?

“Positions are zoned in the PDP.The founding fathers of the party zoned position because lack of zoning of positions led to the collapse of the first and second republic,”he added.
