  • Two broke people dating should be a crime” – Cynthia Morgan

Two broke people dating should be a crime” – Cynthia Morgan

Controversial Nigerian Dancehall singer, Cynthia Morgan has said that two broke people going into a relationship should be a criminal offence.

She wondered why people take offence when people say that men should not be dating when they are financially unstable.

Morgan stated that there are three categories of brokenness that exists in her book, which are spiritual, mental and financial.

She added that men are natural providers, and it should not be argued, however, if a guy finds a woman who accepts him when he has nothing, then it is fine.

    Her words:

“Not sure why people take it personal when they say men shouldn’t be broke and dating. Firstly I will like to state that there are three types of brokenness, 1, financial brokenness, mental brokenness and spiritual brokenness.

“But let me expatiate on the financial brokenness. Men are natural providers. If you’re lucky to find a woman that doesn’t mind cool. But two financially, spiritually and mentally broke people dating should be a crime in my opinion”.

  • How they want to govern eight billion people – By Owei Lakemfa

How they want to govern eight billion people – By Owei Lakemfa

Eight billion human beings entered  2024, four days ago with hopes of a better world. But that may be largely determined by rulers across countries who may not even share the same vision.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, whose forces have sustained some 70,000 deaths and over 100,000 injured does not seek a peaceful resolution. Rather, he desires the intensification of the war even when it is clear some of his international backers are getting weary or are diverted by the Israeli-Palestinian  War which began on October 7, 2023.

In his New Year Message, Zelensky  seeks not for or industrial production in his war-torn country,  but of military hardware “All of which we will generously use.”  Perhaps in anticipation that his allies may supply Ukraine fewer arms in his clearly unwinnable war, Zelensky told Ukrainians that in 2024: “the enemy will feel the wrath of domestic production. Our weapons, our equipment, artillery, our shells, our drones, our naval ‘greetings’ to the enemy and at least a million Ukrainian FPV drones.”

In contrast to Zelensky’s twenty-minute message, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s New Year message was four minutes during which he avoided direct reference to  the war with Ukraine. He simply wished   ”every Russian family all the best.”  He added: ”We have proven time and time again that we can tackle the most difficult tasks and will never back down, because no force can tear us apart. We say goodbye to 2023, which will become part of history, and we need to move forward to create the future.”

United States President Joe Biden who is clearly more concerned about his re-election and the possible challenge of his predecessor, Donald Trump, than international matters,  struck a similar cord as Putin.  In a New Year interview, he simply hopes: “everybody has a healthy, happy and safe New Year.”

In what may be an indirect  response to Trump’s  ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan, Biden arrogantly said: “ I hope that they  (Americans) understand that we’re in a better position than any country in the world to lead the world.”

Similarly, Biden ally,  Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of Britain is bogged down by electoral challenges more so when his Tory Party is lagging behind in the polls.  His message was primary on his claimed achievements in 2023: “We’re getting the economy growing. We’ve cut inflation in half. We’ve delivered the biggest business tax cut in modern British history.” He added that in 2024, the Conservatives  would “keep driving forward”  with tax cuts, lowering inflation and “cutting the cost of living for everyone.”

Canadian  Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, like Putin and Biden,  also addressed local issues:  ”This year, Canadians stood strong through some difficult times. Despite geopolitical instability, global inflation, and Canada’s worst wildfire season on record, Canadians didn’t give up. We rolled up our sleeves, looked out for our neighbours, and were there for each other.”

However, Germany which had been dragged into the Russo-Ukrainian War  after striving to avert the conflict, is understandably worried about peace. Its  Prime Minister Olaf Scholz  lamented: “So much suffering, so much bloodshed. Our world has become a more unstable and a harsh place. It is changing at an almost breath-taking speed.” Scholz added: “As a result, we also have to change. This is worrying for many of us. For some people, it also causes dissatisfaction…Our strength lies in our willingness to compromise – in the efforts we make for each other.”

The  President of the United Arab Emirates, UAE, Sheikh Mohamed whose country is enjoying prosperity is understandably for peace. He said: “As we welcome the New Year, let us stand united and pray for peace and progress for all people in the UAE, region, and the world.”

Pakistani  Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said his country cannot celebrate the new year given the situation in the Palestine. He called on Pakistanis to “show solidarity with the oppressed people of Gaza” by shunning festivities.

Democratic People’s Republic of Korea President Kim Jong Un said: “2023 was a year of great turn and change both in name and reality when the DPRK left a great footprint in the glorious course of its development in the efforts to improve the national power and to enhance the prestige of the country.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told his people: ”The true measure is the well-being, welfare and prosperity of the people … for those facing hardships in their lives and with the cost of living, it must be promptly addressed.”

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa who has played a salutary role  in the strive to stop the genocide in the Palestine, in reference to internal challenges told South Africans “not to lose hope,” adding  that 2024 is “an opportunity for positive change and progress.”

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel told his people to embrace 2024 with “passion and joy.” He added that with socialism: “ each goal is a new starting point.”

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria whose people are witnessing unprecedented inflation rates, told them that hard times don’t last. In 2024, he promised them reliable electricity supply, a  restart of  local refining of petroleum products, boost in food supply  and making Nigeria a preferred location for both domestic and foreign investments.

Maltese   Prime Minister Robert Abela said it is forward ever for his government and people as: ”We believe in people, we believe in peace.”

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro  who scored a diplomatic victory on December 20, 2023, when the US released  his country’s ambassador, Alex Saab in exchange for ten jailed Americans, highlighted ”the struggles and successes” of his in country. He  is hopeful that 2024 would bring “prosperity and new opportunities.”

French President Emmanuel Macron said 2023 witnessed bloody wars in Ukraine, the Middle East and Gaza.  He said 41 French citizens were killed and some taken hostage.  He said the new year would be one of hope and pride as his country hosts the  Paris Olympic Games.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said the wars in the Palestine and Ukraine negatively affected lives. He added: “Perhaps people will feel sad when they look back on the past year. But we should continue to stay united and support each other in the New Year.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke confidently about his country’s  achievements in 2023. The list   included the  introduction of the C919 large passenger airliner into the market,  the trial voyage of the Chinese-built large cruise ship,  Shenzhou spaceships continuing their missions in space while in the sea, the submersible Fendouzhe reached the deepest ocean trench.  Internationally, Xi says his country  wants  a shared future for mankind.

In analysing these messages by world leaders, little or nothing will change in 2024; the hope is some progressive movement for the better.

  • Why people take me for granted – Asake

Why people take me for granted – Asake

Nigerian singer, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake has revealed that some people used to take him “for granted” because he was “too humble.”

In a viral video, Asake, while chatting with a group of friends, stated that it is better to be egoistic than “too humble,” emphasising that excessive humility often results in disrespect.

According to him, To me, humility is like a waste of time. People don’t appreciate it. At the end of the day, life is about your perception. That is how I think. It’s my world.

“I’ve been around people, that I tried to let them say who I am but they didn’t appreciate it. As an artiste, if you come to somewhere, if you’re humble, they will take you for granted. But if you have ego, they feel like you’re not accessible so they will like you more. People would rather see what you’re doing than you showing them humility. So, just do what you need to do.”

People will be judged by God according to how they treat their partners – Solomon Buchi

Relationship therapist, Solomon Buchi, has revealed with strong conviction that people will eventually be judged by God according to how they treat their partners..

Buchi in a post  shared on X noted said that before assuming duties as husband or wife in relationships, people should first acknowledge themselves as God’s children.

The Relationship therapist adopted the idea that a person should treat their partner with great care and respect, stressing that they should be cherished as valuable people rather than as possessions.

He  wrote: “God will judge you for how you treat your partner. They are first God’s children before they are your husband/wife. You don’t own them; you’re taking care of them for God. Do it well. Do it like God will like it done.

“Before marriage, people make babies by going close to the opposite sex Imao, but in marriage, you’ll plan, you’ll eat healthily, reduce this and that, exercise, and it dawns on you that making babies in marriage can become a chore.

“If I never had to work again in life. I’ll love a big family! Probably 6 kids. But there’s work that takes time, so we’d do half of that. Lol.”

  • People stopped associating with Baba Suwe after NDLEA saga –Son

People stopped associating with Baba Suwe after NDLEA saga –Son

Adesola Omidina, a son to late comic actor, Baba Suwe, has said friends stopped associating with his father after the NDLEA saga.

TheNewsGuru recalls that the NDLEA detained Baba Suwe on October 12, 2011, at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his way to Paris, France, for allegedly swallowing hard drugs. But after three weeks of detention, no drugs were found in him.

A Lagos high court then ordered the NDLEA to pay Baba Suwe the sum of N25m for unlawfully detaining him and also tender an apology to him.

However Adesola said “The case is not about what he told me. Rather, I was involved in the case from the beginning to the end. I was the one that hired the late Bamidele Aturu to handle my father’s case.

“I wouldn’t want to go deep into this issue; it is a story for the future. All the accusations that were levelled against my father were false. My father couldn’t even kill a rat, not to talk of what he was accused of. That was too expensive”, he told Punch.

Speaking further, Baba Suwe’s son stated that the late actor lost some friends and also got denied opportunities of earning money as a brand ambassador to corporate organizations.

“There were some people who loved to associate themselves with my father but after that incident, they withdrew and were also trying to be careful to protect their image.

“My father was not able to enjoy certain privileges which could have come from the government, both state and federal; and also brands. As a young guy, all my income was spent on my father till he died just to make sure he was fine. We thank God for everything.”

  • No single day passes without people being killed in North, Sultan cries out

No single day passes without people being killed in North, Sultan cries out

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and the CAN President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, have lampooned the Federal Government for the poor management of the nation’s security.

Following the recent escalation of attacks in the Shinkafi axis of Sokoto, they called for a collective and coordinated approach to solve the nation’s security problems.

Speaking in Abuja at the 4th Quarter 2021 Meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, NIREC, on Thursday, the Sultan said everything was not right with the country, citing the increased level of crime and criminality across the federation.

The Sultan said, “If I continue talking about the insecurity in the North, we will not leave this room, some few days ago, we are witnesses to the media report on how people were killed in a bus in Sokoto, even though the figure is not correct, but even one life is important, there is no single day that passes without people being killed in the North especially in the North West now, but we don’t hear it.

“Let’s not deceive ourselves, everything is not alright, I have said this so many times, and to know that you have a problem, you have part of the solution. The earlier we rise up to the occasion, come together, the better for us.”

Citing the recent threat letter by bandits to Christians in Zamfara state, the Sultan also came hard on the security agencies for not doing enough to investigate and authentication the source of violent message.

He lamented that the lack of due diligence by the police before informing Christians of the planned attack on Churches in Zamfara could have frightened worshippers and dampened their faith.

Sultan said, “When I saw a note that the bandits are threatening Christians in Zamfara, I asked what is the work of our security agencies? Why will they come out and make such comment when they have not verified it? You are making people to be more frightened.

“I will not stop going to mosque to pray because I saw in a paper that if I go to mosque I will be killed, let me be killed. I must die. So, Christians should not be afraid of going to church to worship because an anonymous person is threatening them.”

While advocating for a new approach and strategy to address some of the challenges in the country, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar said some religious leaders have been part of the major problems the nation is facing.

“We have to be careful in the way we handle, say and do things as religious leaders. We are not political leaders. Therefore, we have to be wary of what we say, where and how we say such things, because our followers will definitely believe in what we say. They will believe and feel that it is from the Holy Koran or the Holy Bible.

“We cannot go on telling things to people without thinking that they will believe. We cannot go on saying things that we know we don’t have full knowledge of,” the monarch cautioned.

On his part, Ayokunle who co-Chairs NIREC with the Sultan, described the nation’s highways as “den of kidnappers and a no-go-area for travellers.”

He wondered why the security forces could not trace the kidnappers to their hideout and rescue the victims.

According to him, “Travelling from one point to another by road in particular have become a very great risk, kidnapper are everywhere and they don’t only come out to kidnap but also to kill, so you don’t know who the next victim is going to be.

“Why should these people be killing and hiding people in our territory without being challenged, why should it be easy for them to hide people somewhere within the state and the security agencies in the state within few days or weeks will not be able to fish them out?”

Above all, the CAN President called for increase in intelligence gathering; urging the public to also volunteer information to the security agencies to help the tracing and apprehension of the criminals.

He also advocated for increased investment in the military to enhance their performance, and warned the security forces to purge themselves of elements who aid and abet criminality in the country.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of NIREC, Prof. Cornelius Omonokhua, called on Christians and Muslims to join hands to fight terrorism and insecurity.

“No terrorist can be a religious person and no religious person can be a terrorist. We must come together now to pray and fight those who have waged war against humanity in Nigeria,” Omonokhua noted.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: A new wave

    By Oke Chinye

    Read: MATTHEW 28:16–20

    Meditation verse:
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14)

The coronavirus pandemic that hit the world in 2020, took everyone by surprise. Suddenly, the world stood still and watched in horror as the death toll increased by the second. It didn’t matter how much you had in your account or how many luxury cars you owned or which exotic destinations you could vacation in. All that mattered was to be able to breathe on your own.

However, amidst the horror and hopelessness, scripture was being fulfilled. From the ashes of despair arose a new wave of glory. The knowledge of the glory of the Lord began to cover the whole earth. As the world went online, carrying out processes and activities virtually, God’s word was not left out. The gospel was being preached continuously. Church services took place online. Bible studies and prayer meetings were held online. We listened to the word of God and prayed whilst cooking, bathing, eating, and walking. In the twinkling of an eye, physical pulpits became virtual ones.

Before Jesus left the earth, He gave us the great commission; to go make disciples of all nations. God will not initiate the advancement of this cause and halt it midway. This new wave will continue even when the tides of the corona plague have been stemmed. The world is witnessing a revival. A new wave of glory has been ushered in. The pandemic opened our eyes to the fact that we can preach the word of God and share the good news of salvation to anyone in any location in the world. It showed us that we can pray for anyone at any time and from any place. The salvation message can no longer be restrained by geographical location, time, or space.

How can you and I plug into this new wave? Wherever you find yourself, share the good news. Your kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, office, school, and shop have become churches. Your social media handles, phones and laptops have become pulpits. You no longer need to wait to enter a physical pulpit before sharing the gospel. And you do not have to be a pastor. The great commission is for all of us.

  • People said I’d die carrying you-Toyin Lawani celebrates two-month-old daughter

People said I’d die carrying you-Toyin Lawani celebrates two-month-old daughter

Popular fashion designer, Toyin Lawani, has said that some unidentified people wanted her dead during the pregnancy of her two-month-old daughter.

The mother-of-three took to her Instagram page on Tuesday to gush over her newest baby, stating that some people still wanted her dead.

Sharing photographs of the child, the founder of Tiannah Place Empire showered her baby with prayers.

In one of the posts, she said, “They still wish you death now that you are here. They wished me death while you were in my stomach and said I would die carrying you but God over them.

“You are here and still overcoming their daily wishes. May God continue to protect you, my child. Happy two months birthday @kingtinukeleora. Continue to shine, our love.

Sharing another set of pictures, Lawani said, “Two months of knowing you, two months of being a mom again, two months of thinking I couldn’t go down this journey again and two months of fighting against all odds to have you.

“At times, they don’t see the pain and struggles , they see just the glitz. Well, Imole-ayo, like your grandma fondly calls you. Eleora, you are my light and you are God’s gift to this swag fam. We love you and we are happy to share our lives with you.” (sic)

Eleora is Lawani’s third child as she has two other children, 16-year-old Tiannah and 6-year-old Tenola.
