Tribunal Verdict: It’s fake news, I did not congratulate Tinubu – Atiku

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate in the last election, Atiku Abubakar, has said at no time did he congratulate President Bola Tinubu over his victory at the tribunal.

Atiku also declared that he’s not in any hurry to retire from politics.

Apparently replying Vice president Kassim Shettima who said he would buy goats and sheep for Atiku to go into political retirement, the PDP Presidential candidate vowed to continue contributing his quota in deepening democracy.

Atiku, who spoke through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, said, “he is not going into retirement and will instead continue to be part of the struggle to deepen democracy in the country”.

The statement also described as false, reports that Atiku has congratulated President Bola Tinubu over the outcome of the election petition tribunal.

“It is fake news being orchestrated by those desperately looking for validation for the usurpation of the mandate of Nigerians,” he said.

According to Ibe, Atiku couldn’t have validated electoral banditry because doing so would have amounted to a rape on the conscience of Nigerians who have struggled for years to entrench electoral integrity.

“If their conscience is clear and they are convinced that their victory is valid, they don’t have to blackmail their political opponents into congratulating them through fake news.”

“Why should a man be desperate for validation? Does truth require validation? Why should you issue a congratulatory statement and attribute it to Atiku if your conscience is not troubled by the electoral heist you have perpetrated.

“The Waziri has nothing personal against President Tinubu. He owes him no ill will. Let me, however, make it very clear that this struggle is about principle and justice. He is not in this struggle because he hates Tinubu. He is in it to ensure that people who rigged elections are not allowed to get away with it. Injustice and rigging promote bitterness and division. No leader should be proud to lead angry and aggrieved citizens,” he said.

  • Why Wike supported me in the past – Dino Melaye

Why Wike supported me in the past – Dino Melaye

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State, Sen. Dino Melaye, has revealed that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike supported him in the past because he felt he had the qualities and credibility to be a governor.

Senator Melaye made this known while appearing on Arise morning show on Wednesday.

He said that Wike also invested his money in him, adding that he has respect for him as somebody who has assisted him in the past.

Melaye said, “I want to tell you [Wike] that you supported me, doesn’t mean that you would ask for my liver and kidney. I will not give it and let me say that Wike himself has always been supported and he owes PDP a lot and anything he is doing for any individual in PDP is like giving back for what PDP has done for him.

“Governor Odili made him chairman of his local government. So he has been helped by somebody. After Governor Odili helped him, Governor Amaechi made him chief of staff. Governor Amaechi helped him. Governor Amaechi nominated him to be a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Governor Amaechi helped him. Mrs Goodluck Jonathan spent her money, her connection and everything to make him the Governor of Rivers State.

“So everyone gets helped by one person or the other. But you don’t help people with the intention to enslave them, to control them and run their life and decisions. Once you give assistance to somebody, then you should allow the person to exist, but Wike once he assists you and you don’t do his bidding and you try to say I have an idea or decision, he would go all out and advertise you and announce what he has done for you.

“For example, he gave N50 million to the family of a late respected traditional ruler in Port Harcourt. He came to a national TV to announce that he gave N50m to that respected Nigerian, a former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a respected traditional ruler.

“You don’t do things like that. In fact, the holy book said whatever you do with your right hand, the left hand should not even know. So the truth of the matter is that God can assist you through anybody. But because I refused to support his presidential ambition. When he was helping me, I was qualified, when he was helping me, he felt I had the qualities and credibility to be a governor and that is why he invested his money in me and that is why he gave me his private jet.

“So what happened now? The same person you saw quality in him, the same person you saw quality in him, you will not put your money where you have no faith. Nobody will do that. Only a madman will do that. So he invested at that time because he saw quality in me, he saw that I was qualified to be the Governor of Kogi State, but because I refused to do his bidding, because I refused to support his presidential ambition, he now wants to take on me. Throughout the campaign, you will never find a place where I spoke derogatorily about Governor Wike because I respect him as somebody who has assisted me in the past.”

Kogi Guber: Wike knocks Dino Melaye, warns PDP against giving him party’s ticket

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has posited that a spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, doesn’t have what it takes to win Kogi guber elections.

According to Wike, PDP will fail should they give Dino the party’s ticket.

Addressing selected journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, Wike stressed that the former Kogi West Senator lacked the capacity to govern a state.

According to Wike: “If you give Dino the governorship ticket, you know he will fail; there is no way he can win. Why will Kogi people say they would vote for a candidate like Dino?

“People can’t vote for Dino because he is from Kogi; Dino does not have what it takes to govern the state or be a governor. It’s not by coming on television to act drama or insult Wike.”

Last week, Melaye joined the Kogi State governorship race as PDP prepares to hold its primary election in the state.

2023 Elections: PDP scored a political own goal – Segun Sowunmi

A staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has described his party’s performance at the presidential election as a political own goal.

According to Sowunmi, the party lost in the election by giving out itself.

He noted that there were many internal crises within the party prior to the election and it came back to haunt them so badly.

Sowunmi  who was one of the spokespersons for the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Council made his position known while featuring on a political programme  Politics Today on Channels TV where he described the circumstances that resulted in the party’s loss to scoring an own goal.

He said: “I will say that the 2023 election was an unusual election. In 2019, we felt and we really strongly believed we were robbed but in 2023 I will like to say we gave it out by ourselves. I mean you can map the areas where we didn’t get our traditional numbers and you can just see PDP is responsible for not getting it here, PDP is responsible for not getting it there,”

He added, “So, our struggle or if you like their struggle because I wasn’t involved in that, their struggle trying to show we are this and that created a scenario where they were trying to settle a score with the general elections. It was a terrible own goal for our party.”

Sowunmi said the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) did a good job in accreditation of voters during the elections but berated Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to transmit the results of the polls electronically, especially during the February 25 poll.

However, the Ogun state born politician noted that the PDP has got all it takes to bounce back into reckoning.

  • Cross River PDP accuses Ayade of result manipulation, set to challenge guber election result in court

Cross River PDP accuses Ayade of result manipulation, set to challenge guber election result in court

In Cross River state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finalized arrangements to challenge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) declaration of Prince Bassey Edet Otu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as governor-elect at the Election Petition Tribunal (EPT).

The Cross River PDP has also accused current Governor, Ben Ayade and INEC of tampering with election result papers in the state.

They claimed that Ayade and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Professor Gabriel Yomere, and other INEC collation officers have tampered with original results sheets and manipulated BVAS machines used for the Governorship and state House of Assembly elections on March-18, 2023.

In his reaction, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof Gabriel Yomere denied the allegations, dismissing it as untrue.

He said: “There is no truth in the allegations that I held a meeting with the governor and his team in order to reconcile and manipulate the electoral materials used for the gubernatorial election

“The last time I met with the governor was shortly before Christmas and I went with my team. That was shortly before I travelled for Christmas.

“Even if I succeed in manipulating the BVAS, what about the backend at the INEC portal? You can’t manipulate that.

“The only people allowed to check the BVAS are the lawyers to the political parties and they do that in the presence of INEC staff.”

There have been speculations that the governor, the REC and some collation officers have held meetings on how to reconcile the irregularities in the last governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

One of our sources said, “Ayade and the INEC REC are particularly worried at the issue of over voting and some irreconcilable differences recorded at the polling units and the number of votes declared from the polling units.

The sources further revealed that, “They had a meeting on Saturday night trying to come up with modalities on how they can look at declared results in each local government to tally with hurriedly declared results especially where they have over voting.”

PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mike Ojisi, expressed worry and called for genuine efforts to protect the election materials from deliberate manipulation.

“After a series of meetings, arrangements have been concluded between the REC, the electoral officers (EOs) of each LG, and the Returning Officers, to bring out all the BVAS within each polling unit across the state that have over voting in the just concluded elections.

“With the BVAS, they would be able to thumbprint additional ballots papers to balance the votes and the number of persons that were accredited in each of the polling units across the state.

“The governor has concluded the arrangements for this and it will commence today.

“We call on stakeholders and relevant agencies to demand for the original results sheets used in announcing the results from REC before they temper with it,” Ojisi explained.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Cross River, Bassey Otu, as the winner of the March 18 election in the State.

According to INEC, Otu, a former member of the Senate, scored 258,619 votes to defeat his closest challenger and an incumbent Senator, Sandy Onor, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 179,636 votes.
