APC bigwig, Onakoya, loyalist dump party for PDP in Ogun state

Babatunde Onakoya, politician and ally of former Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun has defected to the opposition  Peoples Democratic Party with his loyalists.

Onakoya popularly referred to as Debasco led his group to defect to the PDP.

Onakoya and his followers officially joined the party on Wednesday at an event held in his Atiba residence in Ijebu Ode.

He disclosed that he was forced to leave the ruling party because of the unsettled rift in the party.

Onakoya, who used the occasion of his 69th birthday to join the opposition party, said that though Amosun and the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, are his brothers, he has no choice than to leave the ruling party due to the lingering crisis in the party.

Speaking before handing over the PDP flag to Onakoya, the Ogun PDP Chairman, Sikirulahi Ogundele, disclosed that people are daily trooping into the opposition party because it is so glaring that the ruling party has failed woefully both at the state and national level.

Ogundele disclosed that just last Friday, over 10,000 people defected into PDP in the state saying that even before the 2023 general elections people have made up their minds to end the hardship foisted on them by rejecting the APC.

Ogundele, described the decampee as a big fish and a big infuencer in Ogun East politics.

He further revealed that he has joined the PDP with about 5,000 followers .

Similarly, the  governorship candidate of the PDP, Ladipupo Adebutu described PDP as the only party that is committed to saving the country from iminent collapse.

He said, “It is however becoming so glaring that come 2023, the party is returning to the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta to continue its good works.”

Adebutu lauded Onakoya for being courageous enough to leave APC with his followers put at over 5000 to team up with PDP whose sole aim is to wrestle the people of the state from the insensitive government of APC.

Speaking earlier, Segun Oyesanwo, Head of Media of Debasco Group, in his welcome address disclosed that the choice of PDP as the party to join was influenced by the commitment of the party to always prize citizens’ welfare above any other considerations

Oyesanwo said, “In Debasco group, we are also of the strong opinion that if someone from Remo land in the person of Governor Dapo Abiodun starts something and another person from Remo land, that is Hon Ladipupo Adebutu who is also from Iperu like the sitting governor finishes the assignment, there is no crime here and that is why all of us in Debasco group are ready to work for the emergence of Hon Ladipupo Adebutu as the next governor of the state come 2023.”

The Ogun East politician used the avenue of his official unveiling as a PDP member to empower the people of Ogun East  by distributing,  grinding machines, generators, dryers, clippers among others to skilled persons in the community.

  • 2023 Elections: APC cannot secure 25% of votes in most states – PDP

2023 Elections: APC cannot secure 25% of votes in most states – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised that the All Progressives Congress (APC) should not bother to campaign in the 2023 general elections, saying it has set out to fail.

This statement was made by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ologunagba posited that the APC cannot secure the statutory 25% of votes in most states in the country.

He said the crowd that attended its recent rallies in Kano and Katsina States are clear messages that Nigerians have rejected the APC ahead of the 2023 general elections.

According to the PDP, the solidarity its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar was shown in Kano underscores their determination to break through all barriers, vote APC out, and return it to power.

It added that the mass exodus from the APC into the PDP in most states including President Muhammadu Buhari’s home State of Katsina further confirmed its position that the party has failed Nigerians.

The Publicity scribe added that PDP remains the only vehicle to rescue and rebuild the country from the misrule of the APC.

His statement reads in part “the takeover of President Buhari’s campaign office by the PDP in his home Katsina State following the defection of critical APC stakeholders in the State, signals the surrender of the APC and its structure to the PDP in President Buhari’s supposed strongholds.

“Nigerians have seen through the lies and falsehood of the incompetent, rudderless, insensitive, divisive, bloodthirsty, and terrorism-enabling APC that has brought nothing but misery, economic hardship, hatred, unprecedented disunity, and bloodletting to our nation in the last seven years.

“Nigerians have seen the APC in its true identity; a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV); a pirate ship of inchoate sailors and strange bedfellows clobbered together for remote personal gains, not for governance and the public good.

“This is more so, as the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT); the national leader of the failed APC government is no match to PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who has established his capacity to lead our nation out of the wood where Asiwaju and his failed APC plunged her.

“From all indications, under a credible, free, fair, and transparent electoral process, the APC cannot secure the statutory 25% of votes in most States across the country”.

The PDP also commended the former Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, and other well-meaning Nigerians for their patriotism in rallying on its platform to rescue and rebuild the country.

2023: Fayose distances self from online post linking him to Tinubu

Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele  Fayose has distanced himself from online reports linking him to the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2023 general elections in the state.

Fayose was accused to have said that he had nothing against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party,  (LP ) but Tinubu is his choice.

“I have nothing against Atiku, Peter Obi is not my enemy but JAGABAN is my choice,” Fayose was alleged to have tweeted.

Debunking the statement, Lere Olayinka, Fayose’s media aide described the report as fake news.

“It is not true. He never said anything like that. Disregard the fake news,” he said.

Peter Ayodele Fayose is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who contested in the party’s presidential primary but lost to the eventual winner Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

  • Stop living in denial, face reality – PDP attacks Ogun governor, Abiodun, APC

Stop living in denial, face reality – PDP attacks Ogun governor, Abiodun, APC

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has encouraged the ruling All Progressive Party in the state to continue to live in self denial despite been faced with realities.
The Publicity secretary of the party, Akinloye Bankole gave this advice in his reaction to a release by the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Tunde Oladunjoye on Monday, Bankole told the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun and his ruling party party to face realities and accept their fate of loosing their members to the Peoples Democratic Party on daily basis.
He said “one will not be surprised with the denial of Oladunjoye that notable members of their party left for PDP, because he (Oladunjoye) is known to be a perpetual confusionist, and he keeps justifying the position of Otunba Gbenga Daniel on his person as OGD described him as a “tragic character”.
“The same he said when our Deputy Governorship candidate Hon. Adekunle Akinlade dumped their failed party; one wonders when Oladunjoye will ever face reality and be truthful. Instead of him to concentrate on redeeming his dented image by Otunba Gbenga Daniel, he continues to add salt upon injury with his illusions just because he wants to always react.” Bankole added.
He went further to clarify that “the PDP is not a party that will call blue as white but a party that always uphold the truth. Against the APC proclamation some months ago that 5,000 members of PDP decamped from Iperu to their sinking party, we (PDP) had open declarations by the leaders of Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Chief Olusegun Osoba groups in APC; and other groups from ADC , Labour Party as well as other parties”
“PDP is proud of all democratic structures that are embedded in the administration of our great party and that explains our unrelenting determination to woo and bring all men of good conscience on board, in progressive partnership to wrestle power from Dapo Abiodun and his wrecked ship, the rudderless APC come 2023”.
“As we have our eyes on the ball, we are not bothered by the APC response to the gale of defections from its ghost house to our party. It still confirms the fact that Dapo Abiodun and APC still dwell in self denial”.
“Governor Abiodun and his team should note very quickly, that his emergency populism in terms of last minute appointment of new commissioners, members of governing councils of some tertiary institutions in the state, the photo ops around Ota and its environs, emergency visits to wards and Local Governments which were hitherto abandoned before the PDP’s victory in the Osun guber election, and several other panic measures, calculated attempts to diminishing the rising acceptability of the PDP and our candidates for the 2023 general elections by the good people of Ogun, can not and will not save the governor and its APC from incurring the wrath of the people just as demonstrated in osun state. OGUN people are wiser than his antics and fake show of compassion”.
“APC should note that the gale of defections that took well over 10,000 people from the APC and other political party to PDP last Friday, in Abeokuta was just the first batch. It was a preamble to burial of agony and misery that Abiodun and his APC represent. Ogun state PDP shall continue to receive new people, especially high profiled members of the ruling APC every week as we build up to the election next year”.
Bankole concluded by saying “While we encourage Mr governor and its APC to continue to bask in self consolatory photo ops and press statements, we make bold to tell the public to get their permanent voters’ card ready. That is the only legitimate tool with which Ogun state would be ushered once again, into an era of socioeconomic abundance and unlimited prosperity”.
  • 2023: Dele Momodu relays encounter with Oluremi Tinubu, reveals who he will support for presidency

2023: Dele Momodu relays encounter with Oluremi Tinubu, reveals who he will support for presidency

Ovation Magazine publisher and presidential aspirant under the auspices of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Dele Momodu has recounted his encounter with the wife of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Oluremi Tinubu at an event in Lagos.

Momodu recounted what transpired between him and Oluremi on his Instagram page.

He said his decision to support the PDP candidate was born out of respect for his party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

Momodu noted that the ruling APC hasn’t done well and his mission is to support someone to unseat them.

He said,  “Only two people, apart from the photographers, witnessed what happened between me and Senator Oluremi Tinubu yesterday, at the funeral service of Chief Kemi Nelson at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church in Ikeja, Lagos.

“Before some people add salt and pepper (sic) to it, I need to state precisely what happened. Senator Tokunbo Abiru and Dr. Tunji Olowolafe and I had walked in about the same time and we went to greet my very dear sister, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Immediately she saw me, we exchanged our usual pleasantries, and then she asked me, “So, Bob  Dee, you’re not going to campaign for my husband?” I smiled and remained very calm before replying, “Your Excellency, I’m in PDP.” She didn’t find it funny and regaled us with the past I shared with her husband and I tried to calm her down.

“Anyway, I went back to my seat and pondered on what just happened and I soliloquized. Before the PDP primary, I had been asked repeatedly by journalists if I’ll dump PDP if I don’t get the ticket, and my answer was NO (sic). So if I had gotten the PDP ticket, would I step down for TINUBU of APC, the answer is No (sic).

“I joined PDP because APC was leading Nigeria to Golgotha. APC candidates are promising to continue BUHARI’S ‘good works!’ (sic) I joined PDP to sack APC from power and to do this I needed a strong opposition party. I had preached to my younger friends that only a mainstream party like PDP can achieve this in 2023.”

Momodu, however, said that while he would respect the opposing views of his friends, he chose to place Nigeria over friendship.

He added, “This remains my conviction. I practice what I preach. Those who disagree are in other parties and I respect their opinions and wish them well. I’m in PDP. I love ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU. We’ve truly come way back. I love PROFESSOR YEMI OSINBAJO. I love RT. HON. CHIBUIKE  ROTIMI AMAECHI… And all my APC friends… (sic) But APC has done too much damage to Nigeria.

“I choose to place Nigeria above friendship… I will try my best to support and encourage our PDP candidate ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR  (sic) to do the right things in our party and to rescue our dear beloved country from the vestiges of oppression, religious intolerance,  poverty, terrorism, infrastructure decay, economic wows, unemployment. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

  • Tinubu stopped PDP from turning Nigeria into a one-party state – Keyamo

Tinubu stopped PDP from turning Nigeria into a one-party state – Keyamo

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, (SAN) has eulogized Tinubu, saying that he stopped the Peoples Democratic Party from turning Nigeria into a one-party state.

Keyamo posited that Tinubu’s vision and forthrightness put stop to the PDP’s plan to turn the country into a one-party state.

The senior lawyer made this disclosure in Abuja on Tuesday

He recalled that the PDP “wiped out” all the States in the South and Northern parts of Nigeria, except Lagos State which was under Tinubu’s leadership in 2003.

According to Keyamo, Tinubu’s insistence made Nigeria a multiparty democracy.

He said: “Without Tinubu, we will not have a multiparty democracy today. That’s the truth! He has earned it.

“If you are wise enough, 2003 was a turning point in Nigeria’s democracy. The PDP wiped out all the people and States in both the South and the North.”

Keyamo said when PDP failed to infiltrate Lagos State, they approached Tinubu to join the party.

Keyamo said “they came to him and said, ‘Oya, Asiwaju come to PDP so that you won’t have problems in 2007.

“It takes a strength of character and conviction to say ‘No, I won’t join the ruling party.’”

The minister stressed that Tinubu’s insistence brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power in 2015.

“From Lagos, he started to fight back before he stretched his hands over the Niger, and today, we have General Buhari in power.

“That is why we have a multiparty democracy today. If not, this country would have ended up as a one-party State,” he said.
