Lagosians can’t trust the state in the hands of inexperience people – Gov.Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed confidence that the people of Lagos will re-elect him come 2023.

The Governor who belongs to the All Progressive Congress (APC ) stated this while featuring on a political program on Channels  TV in Lagos.

Asked whether the opposition People Democratic Party’s candidates of Olajide Adediran and his running mate, Funke Akindele, pose any threat to him and the governor posited that Lagos State is not a circus and requires competent hands, stating that the state cannot be left in the hands of inexperience people.

He added that Lagos state economy alone is bigger than the economy of many countries in Africa and such a state can’t be trusted in the hands of people who have never managed an organization of 200 people.

He said, “If you have an emergency at 3 am, who would you call, what are your chances? Will you call a man that has the experience that has gone through the trenches before, that lives with it, that understands what the issues are and that appreciates what challenge you have even at that 3 am? Or will you leave your chance to a man who does not know where the dial is and does not know what the issue of governance is?

“This is Lagos, this is an informed audience. This is not a tea party. We are talking of real governance and the lives of over 20 million Nigerians bigger than the economy of Ghana or Kenya which is in itself a country. It is not a circus, it is a real thing and I don’t want to spite anyone because I have respect for all of the candidates that have emerged and the candidate of the particular party you are talking about.

“But how do you begin to start, what about his pedigree? You can’t run a business of 100 people but you want to run an economy. The governance of Lagos is not a trial and error, you need to hit the ground running. Lagosians have seen the experience and they will vote for a man that will roll up his sleeves to keep the city safe, the biggest and safest city, that provides opportunities for people, and that is Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”

Sanwo-Olu also explained that the state has psychologically recovered from the effects of the #EndSARS protests, but the infrastructural recovery would take a much longer time.

He added, “I can say that we have recovered psychologically, but we are still working out the infrastructural recovery because infrastructure is not something that you can finish in one day, so the infrastructural renewal is still an ongoing budgetary allocation. For example, regarding the major court in Lagos, the Igbosere High Court, we are planning a 15-storey edifice that will take about 60 courts at once. It will be an imposing structure we are bringing back and this will take time.

“However, in terms of the psychology of the people, I believe that the city and myself have learned and understood our lessons because it was collateral damage that ought to have had nothing to do with it. In the last two years, people are more discerning and they can indeed see the reality of a one-day perception and a two-year perception.

“We are not taking anybody or anything for granted and conversations are going and what they want is not about what has happened but what this government is doing to improve every one of us, and what opportunities the government is providing for young people.”

The letter reads, “Dear ASUU, “I am on my bended knees this morning, pleading as a parent that this strike in our universities should end.

“My plea is premised on the confession of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (I won’t address him as a SAN because a SANship is about having sense), that the Buhari’s APC govt of 53 thieves does not have lost every sense of responsibility to end the strike.

“Therefore, it has now become the duty of Nigerians to beg ASUU to end the strike.

“Consequently, In the name of God, I am on my knees begging ASUU to call off the strike so that our children can return to school.

“This is not to say that I do not appreciate the demands of ASUU, but I am sure that when we have a govt in the country, the demands will be addressed.

“More so that the strike NO even KONAN those in this Buhari’s APC government because their children are either in universities abroad or private universities in Nigeria.

“Thank you as you consider this my plea and call of the strike”.

  • Real reasons I agreed to be Adebutu’s running mate – Akinlade

Real reasons I agreed to be Adebutu’s running mate – Akinlade

Akinlade revealed that he chose to run with Adebutu to stop the All Progressives Congress (APC) and prevent the Lagos West Senator, Olamilekan Adeola, from becoming the representative of Ogun West in the Senate. He said there was an urgent need

According to him, there was an urgent need to prevent the APC from being in control of the State for the sake of a secure future.

“I decided to run with Hon. Ladi Adebutu for two important reasons. One is to stop the APC. This State needs to be reset by the PDP.

“Secondly, I will do everything within the ambit of the law to stop the Lagos West Senator in his bid to be elected as a Senator in Ogun West.”

He made this known during a meeting he had with the indigenes of Ipokia Local Government to brief them on the reasons he dumped the APC for the PDP.

In his words, Akinlade explained that the APC leadership betrayed his political father, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, for failing to implement the sharing formula agreed upon by the factions of the party in Ogun, saying that was why Amosun did not stop his foot soldiers from pitching their tents elsewhere.

He said the Electoral Act signed by President Muhammadu Buhari had put an end to rigging, saying all the APC candidates will fail in Ogun.

In addition, Akinlade described Adeola’s candidacy in Ogun West as a slap on the people of Yewa-Awori and Ogun State as a whole.

He frowned at Hon Abiodun Akinlade and Gboyega Isiaka for accepting to step down for Adeola when they were handed the House of Representatives tickets, saying the two of them will campaign for Adeola, whether directly or indirectly.

“The only thing the duo of Abiodun Akinlade and GNI can do is not to campaign at all. But if they refuse to listen, we will teach them a lesson with our votes. They will lose.

“We are Yewa-Awori. We are special, we don’t accept insults. Adeola’s candidacy is a slap on our face. We need to stop these insults. Even people from the North are calling to condemn this aberration. We must stop it.

“Don’t cast any vote for the APC. Give all your votes to the PDP. Let’s prove to them that we won’t allow anybody to rubbish us. We won’t fight anybody, but our votes will speak. They won’t be able to steal our votes as they did in 2019. They will all fail. We will do everything under the law to stop Yayi and to prevent the APC from returning. That’s why I’m on the ballot,” he stated.

Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade is a Nigerian politician. He represented Egbado South and Ipokia federal constituency in the House of Representatives. He left the All Progressive Congress and joined the Allied Peoples Movement to run for Governor of Ogun State in the 2019 election.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has described his re-election bid loss to opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s Ademola Adeleke as a temporary setback,

The Iragbiji-born politician appealed to party members present at the event to return to their various wards and continue regular party activities, stressing that the defeat must not distract them from the bigger project ahead.

“Rumours have been spreading around that I have run away after the election result was announced. We also heard the PDP saying I am trying to convert government assets to mine. Don’t worry about them, they are simply playing to the gallery.

“I summoned all of you here to assure you that the present situation is just a temporary setback. It is a test of our resolve by God and we will continue to stand by him. Ours is God’s project and we shall not despair.

“Go back to your various units and wards across the state and continue with regular party activities, and hold your meetings regularly. We have bigger projects ahead and we must not allow this temporary setback to distract us.”
