In response, Guardiola said: “They’re doing really well. Really really well for the way they played. Top clubs and teams like Arsenal and Liverpool have struggled to win, it will be the same for us.

“Hopefully it doesn’t make us weaker, thank you for the words. It’s a football game and at that moment, we are not the best team in the world as we are not getting results.

“When you are winning games, you are the best team in the world. When you are not, it’s a crisis. It can be exaggerated on once side but that’s the reality.”

EPL: Guardiola blames City players for playing 3-3 draw with Tottenham

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has heaped blame on his players for failing to kill off the game in their 3-3 draw with visiting Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at the Etihad.

Heung-Min Son opened scoring for the Visitors against the run of play in the 17th minute  and equalized for the opponent via an own goal in the 9th minute before Phil Foden  scored to put the Citizens in the lead in the 31st minute.

Guardiola’s men looked as if they were going to take all three points until Dejan Kulusevski’s late header in the 90th minute ensured the match ended in a stalemate.

The City boss, speaking after the game, said: “Unfortunately, against Liverpool as well, this happens [City do not kill the game]. This was a moment where we get to see the team, how they react, how we step forward. It was a top performance again against a top, top team.

“Second half, Spurs stepped forward, a little higher up the pitch. But when you concede just three or four chances to them, of course, they have important absences but even with that, they get the result. But yeah, it is what it is.”

I benefited from Guardiola’s idea at Barca – Cucurella

The Manchester City manager, Guardiola, and Cucurella came through the La Masia system at the Spanish club.

“The philosophy in the Barcelona academy changed because all the time, they play the same style, the same formation with the same mentality and I think this is very good. We can see they do the same here at Manchester City.

“The team plays really well and they have good things to show; every year they change some things to try to improve on this.

“I don’t have a relationship with him, I’ve seen him at some events and I can speak a little bit with him. He’s a very good person.

“Not for me personally but in my academy stage, they showed me a lot because they changed their mentality and a lot of things I can learn are from his ideas that he brought to Barcelona,” Cucurella added.

When asked if Rodri had let him down, Guardiola replied: “Yeah. I don’t like to play with 10 because it is our fault.”
