    Ritualist kills young Togolese girl in Ogun state

    A man suspected to be a ritualist in the Ota area of Ogun state had allegedly killed a seven -year old Togolese girl in the area.

    It was gathered  that the incident happened around 7 am on Thursday at Kilani Street, Iyana Iyesi area of Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun.

    Reports say that a neighbour of the minor’s mother, while in her shop, sent her home to get something.

    The ritualist who had hidden somewhere around the house swooped on the girl, attacked her and smashed her head with pestle.

    The girl’s cry for help had attracted the neighbour’s attention, but she was dead before anybody could arrive at the scene.

    A resident of the area, who identified herself simply as Abefe, said  that neighbours searched for the suspect, but he was nowhere to be found.

    The source informed that police raced to the area to assess the scene of the incident.

    “The police have taken away the body of the little girl. I know the girl very well, we used to call her Mama. The suspect killed her in cold blood. At first, we thought it was a thief, but further findings revealed that the guy is a ritualist,” she said.

    It was  further gathered that the unknown ritualist had been hibernating in an empty building in the area.

    “When we searched further, we discovered that the man had charms and a goat hidden in an empty building close to his victim’s house. When we got there, we saw a goat. The goat attacked one of us, but it was later killed. This is a sad occurrence,” another source stated.

    The Ogun state police command is yet to comment on the matter as of the time of filing this report.

    SAD! Boy cracks stepfather’s skull with pestle, victim dies

    A 17-year-old boy, known only as Junior, has allegedly killed his stepfather, Adebowale Okuwobi, with a pestle in Ekoro community in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

    It was gathered that 42-year-old Okuwobi, a commercial driver, was asleep when Junior allegedly attacked him with a pestle on Monday, July 5, 2021.

    The victim, whose skull fractured from the attack, was taken to different hospitals before he died.

    Junior’s mother, who married Okuwobi twelve years ago, entered the union with three children from her previous marriage. Junior was said to be the youngest of the children.

    Okuwobi’’s elder brother, Sunday Adenuga, said the suspect and his mother escaped after seeing the victim’s life-threatening condition.

    He noted that doctors told the family that the attack fractured Okuwobi’s skull, adding that he was taken to 10 different hospitals before he gave up the ghost.

    He said, “My brother and his wife lived together for 12 years without any misunderstanding. The family just received a call that he was asleep when his stepson took a pestle and attacked him while he was asleep. The boy is known to be a chain smoker on the street.

    “The wife and her son have run away. They knew he would eventually die when they saw his critical condition. Our mother was the one carrying him around hospitals. We were planning to take him to Ijebu before he died today (Saturday). We will bury him at his uncompleted building in Sango Ota.”

    Adenuga said the case was reported at the Meiran Police Station.

    A neighbour of the victim, Bolorunduro Odeniyi, told PUNCH that the deceased’s 72-year-old mother collapsed twice after his death was announced.

    Odeniyi added that Okuwobi remarried after his first wife left him after they had three children together.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said only the attack was reported to the police.

    He said, “The attack was reported, but not his death. When it was reported, the mother and son had absconded before the police got to the place. That was the last time we heard from them. The CP has directed that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for proper investigation.”

    A 34-year old man Ifeanyi Apusiobi on Sunday supposedly killed two of his children in Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

     

    The suspect reportedly attacked his victims, Chinecherem and Obinna, with a pestle while they were sleeping.

     

    The suspect also injured his 72-year old father, Dominic, in the head with the same object.

     

     

    Police spokesman Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident, saying the suspect has been arrested.

     

    He said the situations surrounding the incident were yet to be ascertained.

     

    Detectives who visited the scene reportedly rushed the three victims to hospital where the two children were confirmed dead, while the 72-year-old was responding to treatment.

    Pandemonium as landlord kills tenant’s four-year-old son with pestle

    The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a landlord in Onipanu, Ota, in the Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state, Sunday Omosule, for alleged killing a son of one of his tenants with a pestle.

    The deceased was four-year-old Joseph Akpan.

    According to a report by The Punch, the landlord had allegedly gone berserk and started chasing his tenants with the pestle until he caught up victim’s mother.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said as he caught with the mother who was carrying the boy, he hit the mother in the hand and hit the baby on the head with the pestle.

    He said, “The landlord was arrested following a distress call to the police at Onipanu division.”

    Oyeyemi said the Divisional Police Officer, Onipanu division, Sangobiyi Johnson, led his men to the scene where the suspect was arrested.

    On interrogation, he said the suspect claimed to be under spiritual attacks.

    Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said, “The mother of the deceased, who sustained injury in the attack, has been taken to a hospital where she is responding to treatment.

    The remains of the victim have been deposited in a mortuary.”
