  • How I almost deleted my father’s name to achieve personal fame, wealth – Yul Edochie

How I almost deleted my father’s name to achieve personal fame, wealth – Yul Edochie

Nollywood star, Yul Edochie has explained how hunger for personal fame made him to almost drop his surname, Edochie at the inception of his career.

He also said he is no longer known just as Pete Edochie’s son because of the success he has so far achieved in his career.

Yul, who made the disclosure at the Life Continental Beer’s socio-cultural discourse with the theme, “Bringing Home the Glory: A toast to Progress and Success” in Enugu, said he attended several auditions from Enugu to Lagos without success at the early stages of his career.

“I got admission into the University of Port Harcourt in 1998. By that time, my father was already big in the industry. I had options of studying any other course and grow under his wings. But first, I decided to study Theatre Arts. I graduated in 2003 and did my National Youth Service Corps in 2004/2005. From then, I started hustling and my journey started from here in Enugu. There were times I would board night bus from Enugu to Lagos just to attend some auditions that didn’t work. They would not choose me and I would come back. But I was happy that I was chosen for those auditions despite not making it to locations.

“I knew my father had made a name for himself. But I said I would not ride under his wings. I would make my own name. So, I gave myself time.

“At a time, I even said I was going to change my name and that I was going to remove the Edochie. I wanted to take it out, so that people would see me as Yul, graduate of Theatre Arts, who wanted to make a name for himself. I started from the scratch.

“I gave myself 10 years to see where I would be. (I told myself) That this man (Pete) has made his name, I need to make my own name too. By the special grace of God, I think I have done that. Sixteen years after, I’m no longer known as Pete Edochie’s son. I’m known as Yul Edochie. I excelled and still excelling in Nollywood.

“In 2017, I decided to run for governor of Anambra State at the age of 35. I didn’t win. But it’s all about starting. I have started. In 2021, I declared my intention to run for president of Nigeria in 2023.

“I’m not here to campaign. I’m here to talk about the hard work of Ndigbo, the consistency and progress. That’s what ‘Life is’ is stands for.”

Yul’s father and one of Nigerian’s most celebrated veteran thespians, Pete Edochie, who also featured in the TVC said, “I am delighted to be a part of this era defining celebration of the East by Life Beer. No matter who we are and how far from home we travel in our respective quest to attain success, the greatest reward can be found in coming back home to celebrate your wins and pave the way for others to also achieve progress and success.”

Girls of this generation obsessed with boobs, butt enlargement-Pete Edochie

Veteran actor, Pete Edochie has expressed his reservations about the increasing patronage of cosmetic surgeries by Nigerian ladies.

The veteran thespian, via a video posted on his Instagram page, asked why young ladies seem fixated on boob and butt enlargement surgeries.

In an interview with Adakarl TV, Edochie said, “Today, it is difficult to find a girl who is still what she is. They wear false hair, false lashes, false boobs, false bum, I do not know what is still natural about you, let’s be honest. Why our girls must be obsessed with these things, I don’t know.”

He further stated that he knows he might receive some criticisms over his remark.

“I would want them to insult me and tell me why they are obsessed with those things. I might be insulted, but I mean, I am used to it. Insult me, it does not mean anything to me.

“Some girls now die when they try to operate and inflate their bum. May the good Lord help us.”

TheNewsGuru recalls that back in March, Edochie advised women who feel their husbands cheat to put condoms in their bags when they are travelling.

The actor was seen in the viral video saying, “If you think that your husband leaves the house and says that he is going on tour and he is going to have an affair outside, put a packet of condom into his bag, tell him that you have packed his bag for him.

“When he sees it, psychologically he is going to think, ‘this woman has my interest at heart.’ If it is his intention to stray, he will put himself together.

“The thing is that you women are not creative; you want to be like white women who keep marrying and divorcing and marrying. It does not suit us; it does not go down well with us. No.”

  • Leaving Nigeria is not the answer-Yul Edochie

Leaving Nigeria is not the answer-Yul Edochie

Actor, Yul Edochie has reacted to the remarks by Pastor Paul Adefarasin, saying that running away from Nigeria was not the solution.

Adefarasin, senior pastor of House on the Rock Church, had on Sunday advised his congregation to have a “plan B” in case there is need to leave the country in the wake of insecurity.

Edochie in a post shared across social media platforms on Tuesday said he would not leave his fatherland.

“Jakpa is not the answer. Yes, no one wants to lose his life but truth is, we’ll all die someday, all of us. So what’s the point of running? I’m a man sent by God to liberate his people. I will not run from my fatherland. We must get it right. My plan B is ‘NO LEAVE NO TRANSFER,’” he wrote.

TheNewsGuru recalls that back in February, Pete Edochie endorsed, Yul, his son, for the 2023 presidential race.

Yul broke the news in a video shared on his social media page.

“My Father Chief Pete Edochie endorses my 2023 Presidential ambition… God Almighty, take absolute control,” he captioned the post.

In the less than 3-minute footage, Pete disclosed that the endorsement follows ceaseless pleas from young people asking him to openly back his son’s bid for the country’s highest political office.

He said while he is not interested in politics, he would not hold back his support for Yul who has decided to delve into it.

“My values are very strong. I have my own children and they are very strong in that regard too. I am not one to be involved in politics. But you see, not all your children are bound to follow you,” he said.

“One of my sons, who incidentally is an actor, has decided that he wants to be a politician. Most of the youngsters have been bugging my phone asking me to endorse my son that they want him as president and l get amused. But they keep insisting daddy, we want Yul to be the president of this country.

“We like him. He is disciplined, sympathetic, he believes a lot in people. They have bothered me so much that today, I’m hereby present him to you. He has my blessing. He has my endorsement.

“Any day he decides to veer off from the discipline under which he was raised, l will withdraw him from the race. It shall be well with you son. Since it has been your ambition to go into politics and the desire to run for the presidency of this country, may the good Lord assist you, protect and direct you.”

Bishop Faith Benson Idahosa’s wife Laurie Idahosa has apologized to veteran actor, Pete Edochie over her remarks on his Mother’s Day message to women.

Her apology was contained in a video she shared on Instagram on Wednesday.

Laurie Idahosa said in the video: “Good evening, I’m Pastor Laurie Idahosa and I will like to render a sincere apology to Chief Pete Edochie and his family for the comment that I made on the Linda Ikeji’s post on Instagram. It was never intended to cause you any embarrassment or harm.

“In fact, when I realised that it will be interpreted differently from what I intended to communicate, I quickly deleted the post. Unfortunately it was screen-grabbed and it became a trending topic.

“I want to wish you well sir and wish your family well. My sincere apologies for any embarrassment I may have caused by my comment. God bless you.”

TheNewsGuru recalls that Pete Edochie in his Mother’s Day message had recounted how his 40-year-old father had married his 15-year-old mother, and that the woman remained cautious towards him even after birthing 10 children.

  • Put condom in your husband’s bag if you suspect he’s cheating-Pete Edochie

Put condom in your husband’s bag if you suspect he’s cheating-Pete Edochie

Veteran actor, Pete Edochie has sparked a debate on social media with his advice that women should be submissive to their husbands and not leave their marriage even if the man is cheating.

Edochie made this known in a video in which he advised women to put condoms in the bags of their husbands if they suspect him of cheating.

Hear him: “A lot of you right now are not in your husband’s house. You say that ‘he was cheating on me’. Solomon, I think, had about 1000 wives and 700 concubines. If your husband is cheating on you and now decides to take many more wives, what are you going to do? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

“If you think that your husband leaves the house and says that he is going on tour and he is going to have an affair outside, put a packet of condom into his bag; tell him that you have packed his bag for him. When he sees it, psychologically, he is going to think ‘this woman has my interest at heart.’ If it is his intention to stray, he will put himself together.

“The thing is that you women are not creative; you want to be like white women who keep marrying and divorcing and marrying. It does not suit us; it does not go down well with us. No.”

Speaking further, Edochie who recently celebrated his 74th birthday said “I am not chauvinist, I am not misogynist, and I am not sexist. If you drop your father’s name to answer the name of your husband, you are bound to be submissive to him. How can a woman go out of the house in the morning, come back in the night, reeking of alcohol and the husband wants to know why she is late in coming home. And what does she say, ‘if you know what is good for you, just get out of my way let me go and sleep.’

“Well, they can afford to say that today because the men of today are very weak. If you said it in our own time, you would never be in one piece again. I mean every word of what I am saying. We got married when men were men and women did not insult us that way.”

  • Islamic group slams Pete Edochie

    Islamic group slams Pete Edochie

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, also known as Shiites, have slammed veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, over his role in a new movie, ‘Fatal Arrogance.’

In a statement signed by its Spokesman, Musa Ibrahim, the IMN said it found Edochie’s explanation of his reason for participating in the movie “flawed and his excuses unimpressive, irrational, and at best absurd.”

TheNewwGuru recalls that Edochie had in a-12-minute video clip on his Facebook page, explained his role in the movie which the IMN believes was sponsored by the Nigerian army.

“Firstly, any serious artist worth the name must, first of all, undertake some kind of serious research to get the facts of any script brought to him right.

“This must be done through intense reading of the literature and interviews with scholars who are conversant with the facts. Pete Edochie did none of that.

“Had he been bold enough to cross-check, he would have realized that genocide took place in Zaria in 2015 where over a thousand Nigerian lives were wasted by the sponsors of the film.

“He would have come across the very many attempts by the perpetrators to hide these heinous crimes, firstly by the burial of their victims in mass graves, an internationally recognized crime against humanity as reported by Amnesty International.

“He would have realized that the matter is currently a subject of an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC). He would have realized that the script before him is a continuation of that desperate attempt to distort facts.

“Had Pete Edochie cared to carry out a background check on the scripts given to him to act, he would have realized that the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has been victorious in all the over ten different cases it was in court against the government and perpetrators since that genocide. The government, with all its might and powers, has never proven any case of crime or terrorism against it, its leadership or members in any court of law.

“He would have come across the blunt truth stated by Honourable Justice Gabriel Kolawole, then of the Abuja Federal High Court that, ‘Invidious unobtrusive acts of intolerance by majority Muslims who follow the Sunni school of thought against the minority Muslims who follow the Shiah school of thought is an important factor escalating the current crisis leading to the continued detention of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and the continued incessant persecution of its members.’

“If Edochie has any character as he claims, he would not have accepted to act any role in a film that seems to change the narrative and distort history based on a book distorting facts! If he had any integrity, he would not have accepted to appear in a movie tarnishing the image of an oppressed personality like Sheikh Zakzaky and still think he did nothing wrong because the Sheikh was not mentioned by name.

“Edochie has thrown his professionalism to the winds as he chose to be paid to distort historical facts, yet claiming not to refer to anybody, when clearly the cast bears all the telltale signs of mischievous attempt, at not only demonizing IMN but also Islam as a whole. Peaceful protesters of the Movement are mischievously depicted as armed protesters, with guns and knives tasty for the blood of the innocent.

“Yet, Edochie would rather that we waited for him and his perpetrator sponsors to complete their denigration and manipulation before we complain, even as we have seen enough to convince us of their wicked intentions.

“Pete Edochie also claimed that his life was threatened without saying by whom in an attempt to give the Movement a bad name and to attract cheap sympathy from Nigerians.

“The petition written by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria to the Inspector General of Police and the Film’s Censors Board doesn’t threaten anyone’s life. Issuing of threats has never been in our character.

“Finally, the bottom line is that Pete Edochie should be honourable enough to accept that he allowed himself to be used to further vilify victims of one of the worst state-sponsored massacres of its citizens. He could still redeem his name as other actors in the ill-fated film are doing.”

  • Homosexuality is caused by Ogbanje —– Pete Edochie

Homosexuality is caused by Ogbanje —– Pete Edochie

Veteran actor, Pete Edochie has shared his opinion on homosexuality stating that it is caused by reincarnation,

The bearded actor made this known in a short video circulating online.

Edochie said that when a child is born and looks sickly, he or she is suspected to be an ‘Ogbanje’(spirit child) and a mark is put on the child’s hand. Edochie says that the child eventually dies and then if the child comes back to the world, the spirit of a different gender might still be inside of him.

Back in February, TheNewsGuru recalls that Edochie noted that it is wrong for a man to kneel before proposing to a lady.

In his words: “Any young man who gets down on his knees to propose to a girl is not just an idiot, he is a bloody fool. The reason why I am saying this is simple, we try to copy white people .I believe I the core of our culture. The white man knees down to propose to a girl. You know what it means? The girl takes over the family. This is why whenever you disagree with your wife overseas, you are kicked out and your wife takes over the house.

“I have lived with my wife for 51 years, nobody has come to say, please stop beating this woman. Is it hatred that united us? It means you are an idiot.

“If you call that civilization, it is alright, kneel down before your wife, I will sympathize with you when she takes over the home”.
