Presidency points accusing fingers at Peter Obi’s supporters in planned nationwide protest

The Tinubu administration has identified supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, as the masterminds behind planned nationwide protests against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, made these allegations in a detailed post on his verified X handle, @aonanuga1956. He claimed that the same individuals who hijacked the 2020 ENDSARS protests are now planning demonstrations with hashtags like ‘EndBadGovernance’ and ‘Tinubu Must Go.’ Onanuga labeled these organizers as “anarchists” and “bad losers” who are unwilling to wait for the 2027 elections, accusing them of seeking to destabilize Nigeria through a “civilian coup.” He stated that if the protests turn violent, Peter Obi should be held responsible.

According to the Presidency, key figures, including a faceless internet radio station owner and a Labour Party leader, are involved in the protest plans. Onanuga warned that the protesters’ calls for “revolution” and the removal of an elected government amount to high treason, urging security agencies to take action against those threatening the country’s stability.

The post, titled “REVEALED: Peter Obi’s supporters are the people planning mayhem in Nigeria: Obi should be held responsible for anarchy,” drew parallels with the 2020 ENDSARS protests, which initially started as a legitimate demonstration against police brutality but were allegedly hijacked by other elements, resulting in significant destruction in Lagos State. Onanuga accused IPOB members and supporters of Peter Obi of spreading hashtags like ‘EndBadGovernance,’ ‘Tinubu Must Go,’ and ‘Revolution2024,’ suggesting they are pushing for a civilian coup against President Tinubu. He emphasized that their actions are calls for treason, equating them to a coup d’état.

Onanuga claimed to have been tracking one of the protest planners, an anonymous individual running an internet radio station, PTM100.88 Abuja. This person, who joined X in August 2022 and has 520 followers, is accused of inciting followers to join the planned protest and frequently sharing content related to Peter Obi. Onanuga also highlighted a video of a teenager in the North printing T-shirts with the message “EndBadGovernance in Nigeria 2024” and pointed to a retweeted post by Babatunde Gbadamosi urging people to identify APC members and supporters.

The presidential spokesman stressed that while every country faces economic challenges, civilized nations address leadership concerns through elections rather than violent protests. He highlighted the government’s efforts to tackle the cost of living crisis, such as increasing the minimum wage, providing student loans, and distributing food as palliatives. He also noted improvements in the economy, including reduced inflation, increased revenue generation, and a booming stock market.

The Presidency urged citizens to consider these efforts before joining protests and warned that those advocating for demonstrations should wait until the 2027 elections to enact leadership change. Onanuga called on security agents to begin questioning those behind these destabilization efforts, emphasizing that no country is immune from economic challenges and that civilized and democratic societies resolve leadership changes through elections, not unrest.

Peter Obi: Nothing will stop nationwide protest – Sowore replies Presidency

Former presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has insisted to the Presidency that the August protest against bad governance in the country would hold.

It would be recalled that the Bola Tinubu- led administration on Saturday accused supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi of sponsoring the planned nationwide protests against economic hardship.

President Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, without evidence, alleged that the protest organisers are the same individuals involved in the 2020 ENDSARS protests, which were infiltrated by separatist elements.

Onanuga further warned that the planned demonstrations could lead to anarchy and said the former Anambra governor should be held accountable for any resulting crisis.

Reacting, Sowore said the accusation from the presidency that Obi, was behind the planned protest was a “drivel from a sinking regime”.

The presidential candidate further asserted that the August protest was an idea of Nigerians, and not of Obi.

He said Nigerians are tired of deceit, corruption, wickedness and incompetence of the ruling class.

On his X handle, on Saturday, Sowore said: “The drivel from a sinking regime. There is nothing that could stop an idea whose time has come.

“It doesn’t matter how you frame your fears and shenanigans, and the truth is that Nigerians are tired of the deceit, corruption, wickedness and incompetence of the ruling class and have opted to act from all locations at once.”

Peter Obi should be held responsible for anarchy – Presidency reacts to nationwide protest

The Bola Tinubu- led administration has accused supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi of sponsoring the planned nationwide protests against economic hardship.

Onanuga claimed that the protest, promoted on social media with hashtags such as ‘EndBadGovernance’ and ‘Tinubu Must Go,’ is an attempt to destabilizlse Nigeria due to Obi’s loss in the last presidential election.

Onanuga described the organisers as “anarchists” rather than democrats, accusing them of attempting a “civilian coup” against President Tinubu.

The statement partly reads, “If they understand the meaning of their hashtags, they will realise they are clarion calls for treason. Wanting to end an elected government is high treason. Wanting revolution is a call for a coup d’etat, which is also high treason.

“I have been on the trail of one of the protest planners, who is nameless but claims to have an internet radio station, PTM100.88 Abuja. The anonymous person joined X in August 2022 and has 520 followers today, among whom are FS Yusuf, another rabid Obi supporter, and Professor Pat Utomi, a Labour Party chief and a guy on X who goes by the pseudonym Peter Obi’s First Son. PTM’s profile image has someone holding the inscription` Certificate Forger Not My President, ‘ with a photo of Peter Obi as an inset. Only Obi’s supporters will be talking about certificate forgery long after the Supreme Court dismissed the allegation.

“In the past 24 hours, this faceless X user has been whipping up the gullible to join the protest being planned and also posting the activities of his Messiah, Peter Obi. He retweets Peter Obi often.

“In one of the posts, a video shows a teenager, who is said to be in the North, printing T-shirts emblazoned with “EndBadGovernance in Nigeria 2024′.

“There is also a retweeted post by Babatunde Gbadamosi, a failed and frustrated politician in Lagos. In it, he refers to his earlier post urging people “ to identify APC members, sponsors, supporters, enablers, thugs, promoters, and appointees.” The police and DSS ought to have arrested the man for making a brazen threat to political opponents.

There is “General Oluchi,” a woman who goes by the screen name “A Field Marshall of the Han Dynasty.”

“She has been sending out letters of mobilisation. She even pinned a “Week 6 “ letter urging Nigerians to wake up and take control of their country, using the language of IPOB, Peter Obi, and his supporters.

“Another member of the malcontents is Brother Bernard, also known as Mikael C. Bernard. He is not based in Nigeria because he was once busted over Binance and fraudulent crypto businesses in Nigeria. Bernard was the man who once wrote that the naira should go down to zero.”

Onanuga added, “Security agents should, by now, begin to interrogate these agents of destabilisation. There is no country in the world where people are not going through some economic challenges and where the cost of living is not a major issue. No country is immune from economic turbulence at the moment. Civilised and democratic people wait for another election to make leadership changes. They don’t trigger mayhem in their countries by staging protests, the end of which nobody can predict.

“Nigerian citizens must consider the government’s attitude and concern about the cost of living crisis when deciding whether to join the protests by the Labour Party and IPOB supporters.

“The Tinubu government has not been found wanting in this regard. The minimum wage has been increased by more than 100 percent. Loans are being disbursed to students in tertiary schools. A credit corporation has been launched to promote consumption credit. Palliatives, including the latest distribution of 740 trucks of rice to the 36 states and Abuja, are being rolled out. Businesses, such as pharmaceuticals, are being assisted. The Federal and state governments are investing heavily in agriculture to produce more food.

“The economy is improving, inflation is slowing, the national debt has been reduced in dollar terms, and the FIRS has increased revenue generation to record levels. Investors are coming back to our country. Our stock market is the best in the world, with a 33 percent return on investment.

“President Tinubu has a four-year mandate to run his agenda. Those calling for protest should wait till 2027 to either re-elect him or elect their Messiah, Mr Peter Obi.”

I am humbled by the numerous well-wishers, both locally and internationally, who have already begun sending birthday wishes and organizing events in my honour.

“My appeal to my well-wishers and supporters, particularly in Nigeria and Africa, is to use this occasion to fervently pray for our nation and respective countries. Let us present ourselves, as political leaders, to God, so that

He may touch our hearts to make sacrifices, utilize public resources for the greater good, and prioritize the needs of the poor and marginalized. Let us also provide better opportunities for our youth to thrive.

I have therefore personally, redirected the resources I would have used for celebrations towards supporting critical areas such as health, education, and poverty alleviation. I firmly believe that through these sacrifices, God Almighty will grant your heartfelt wishes for me and answer our prayers.

“Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. I urge you all to remain faithful to Nigeria, our beloved country, and your respective nations. May God Almighty protect, bless, and prosper you and your families, and may He bless our dear nation.

Doyin Okupe reacts as Peter Obi shun Soyinka’s 90th birthday

Former Labour Party, LP, presidential spokesperson Doyin Okupe has taken to social media to share some vital elementarys in politics.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that Okupe made this post while referencing the visit of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi to Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka last year.

According to Okupe, there are no permanent friends and enemies, only permanent interests.

Okupe’s remark comes after the LP candidate and former governor of Anambra state failed to celebrate Soyinka on his 90th birthday.

In the post via his X handle, Okupe wrote,

POLITICS 101: In this game, there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemies, only permanent interests.

“POLITICS 102: If a friend was disagreeable yesterday but can still serve yr interest tomorrow, he remains a friend.

“POLITICS 103: In this game of politics, there is no room for rabid passion, fanaticm, insults and abuses. Caution, restraint, courtesy, diplomacy, temperance, and tolerance are always profitable to employ.

“POLITICS 104: Repeated failures, jeopardy of interest, pain, shame and ignominy are the consequences of not adhering to the above 3 established tenets of politics.

“IF U KNOW U KNOW. IF U DONT, THEN PREPARE TO LEARN.”

Onanuga tackles Peter Obi over his silence on Local governments autonomy

Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga has tackled the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his silence since the Supreme Court gave its ruling granting financial autonomy to Local government areas.

Speaking via his account on Friday, Onanuga claimed that Obi’s silence shows he is only quick to tweet unverified news about President Bola Tinubu and Nigeria.

He insisted that a good opposition must be sincere enough to praise his political opponent when he carries out a great deed.

    “Why is Peter Obi silent?

“More than 36 hours after the Supreme Court gave a landmark ruling, granting financial autonomy to Nigeria’s 774 local councils, Mr. Peter Obi, the defeated Labour Party candidate, has yet to utter a word on the epochal judgment. His silence confirms the belief that he is always quick to tweet unverified news about the Tinubu administration or our country.

“A good opposition statesman must be candid enough to applaud his political opponent when he has done some great deed. The Tinubu administration has succeeded in giving life back to our emasculated councils, using the instrumentality of the law. Even Atiku Abubakar has grudgingly admitted this. But Peter has been silent. He should break his silence and acknowledge that President Tinubu is making a great Nigeria possible.’’

“Learning that Onaogaji Community lacked access to clean water motivated me to take action and donate this borehole.

“Clean water is a basic necessity that many communities in Nigeria still lack. According to the World Bank, about 70 million Nigerians do not have access to safe drinking water, and diarrheal diseases cause the deaths of at least 70,000 children under five each year.”

Peter Obi accused of showing allegiance to Biafra flag

Reno Omokri, a socio-political activist, accused Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), of showing allegiance to the Biafra flag on Sunday. Omokri claimed that Obi declared the end of his presidential ambition by calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Peter Obi had previously urged the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to release Kanu, EndSARS protesters, and other freedom fighters who are imprisoned. Speaking to journalists on Saturday in Anambra State, Obi stated that protesters and freedom fighters have the right to express their grievances through protest.

Omokri posted a photo of Obi and the Biafra flag on his X page, commenting, “The ‘Release Nnamdi Kanu Now’ statement by Peter Obi is the obituary of Peter Obi’s Presidential ambition. By calling for the release of a man who made public broadcasts asking his supporters to kill Nigerian military and paramilitary forces wherever they find them and has neither apologized nor repented of that order, Peter Obi just showed his allegiance to the flag behind him in this photo and which he used for his Hero beer logo! And by the way, anybody or group of people or movement that thinks they can intimidate me and prevent me from saying what I really believe at any point in time obviously does not know me. My body does not secrete the fear hormone.”
