Presidency reacts as Peter Obi accuses Tinubu of implementing four budgets

The Presidency has refuted the claims of a non-profit organisation, BudgiT, alleging that the Bola-Tinubu led administration plans to run four budgets within a fiscal year.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Senate resumed plenary on Thursday to extend the capital section of the 2023 supplementary budget.

BudgIT’s Country Director, Gabriel Okeowo, in a statement said it was worrisome that the Federal Government could be drafting a 2024 supplementary budget to be implemented alongside the 2023 yearly budget, 2023 supplementary budget, and 2024 annual budget.

Okeowo condemned the development, stating it would amount to severe budget credibility issues.

Reacting, Peter Obi in a statement via X on Saturday, described the move as a blatant disregard for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability.

The former Governor of Anambra state, stressed that Tinubu’s action will lead to frivolous items in the approved budgets competing with essential projects for limited resources, further exacerbating the suffering of the Nigerian people.

Reacting to the development, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, in a statement via the microblogging platform X, formally Twitter said the Federal Government is not planning to run four budgets within a fiscal year, as alleged.

Ajayi also slammed Peter Obi for jumping on the unverified report from BudgiT to spread misinformation.

The statement read, “Yesterday, @BudgITng raised a false alarm on the basis of rumours that FG is planning a 2024 supplementary budget. It is important to state that the FG is not planning to run 4 budgets within a fiscal year, as being alleged.

“The National Assembly only approved that implementation of the capital components of the 2023 budget and 2023 supplementary should be extended to December 2024 to achieve its objectives.

“Our country can’t achieve sustainable development when Federal, States and Local governments focus on only consumptive expenditures, which is essentially what recurrent expenditures represent.

“It is the capital expenditures that drive economic growth, strengthen private sector output and create employment opportunities for citizens.

“As a reputable civic organisation, Budgit can not afford to be flippant and be unduly sensational. Expectedly, @PeterObi has jumped on the false claims to push his new round of misinformation.”

“Maybe Obi wants Soyinka to ‘respectfully’ join his Yes Daddy religious war”

Social critic, Reno Omokri has reacted to ormer Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s remark against Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka over the issue of disrespect.

The former Anambra State governor had said he would like the younger generations to respect him when he is Soyinka’s age. His comment was an aftermath of Soyinka’s claim that Obi was unfit to govern Nigeria.

He alleged that Obi was inciting his supporters to attack and insult him online.

But, the former LP presidential candidate said he has never incited Obidients or the younger ones to say anything against anyone.

Omokri, posting on his X handle, said “Peter Obi says Wole Soyinka should behave in a way that makes people respect him. I would laugh, if not that it is so ridiculous for a man who declared religious war on Muslims to say that Wole Soyinka is not behaving in a manner deserving of respect. Maybe Peter Obi wants Professor Soyinka to ‘respectfully’ join him in his Yes Daddy religious war. Anyway, Muslims are waiting for him in 2027.”

Leave Bobrisky, face corrupt politicians – Peter Obi berates EFCC

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has called out the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for arresting of a popular Nigerian crossdresser, Bobrisky and celebrity barman, Cubana Chief Priest, over Naira mutilation.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the EFCC secured a six-month conviction against Bobrisky for mutilating the country’s currency Naira. Similarly, Cubana Chief Priest is facing the same offence for which Bobrisky was convicted.

Speaking during a recent interview on Arise New TV, Peter Obi berated the anti-graft agency, saying they should use the same energy to probe massive corruption affecting poor Nigerians.

According to the former Anambra Governor, Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest’s case are minor issues.

Peter Obi said, the EFFC should look into more important issues, such as budget padding and inflated contracts, rather than using public funds to secure a conviction for abuse of currency.

He said, “If it is not budget padding today, it would be undisclosed subsidy payment, inflated contracts, and all sorts of things.

“These are issues I want our agencies like EFCC to start dealing with by not arresting Bobrisky and Obi Cubana. These are minor issues.

“Our agencies should face budget padding squarely not arresting Bobrisky because he dressed like a woman and spent like N500 notes.

“If someone comes to Nigeria today and says we are going to feed only women in this hunger time, all men would dress like women and go and collect the food because we are all hungry. People will dress like Bobrisky. Everybody will turn into women.”
