A video of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party(LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has caused a huge stir on social media.

The video which has become a growing sensation captured the moment the former governor was pictured serving food at an event called, ‘The Jubilee Of Hope’ yesterday, July 10th.

The viral footage captured the politician carrying several trays with plates of food as he went about serving the meals.

The video has since elicited mixed reactions, as many condemned the former presidential candidate for seeking attention, while others noted that what Obi did was a tradition in Igbo culture and had nothing to do with politics.

Media personality Morayo Brown in reaction, publicly urged President Bola Tinubu to take a leave of absence and permit Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, to lead the country for six months.

She wrote: “Dear @officialasiwaajubat, please allow him become ppresident for 6 months while you take a leave of absence. Let’s even see what magic he wants to do. The desperation is rather sickening.”

While Noble Igwe, a media personality defended Obi, saying: “Everyday it becomes clearer that we were all raised differently.Where I come from, when someone close to you loses a loved one, you join them in serving food and drinks at the reception. I’m glad I don’t know most of you beyond this app.

“You cannot use your background to judge every Nigerian. The fact that you didn’t have a computer or a landline at home doesn’t reflect the reality of other families. You have the power to break the chain of poverty in your family today.”

Another user commented : “I love you PO but I no understand this one wey u dey do now o. My president. I no understand this one.”

Obi: The desperation is rather sickening – Morayo Brown makes strong demand from Tinubu

Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the managing director of TVC Entertainment (TVCe), has publicly urged President Bola Tinubu to take a leave of absence and permit Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, to lead the country for six months.

This comes after the former Anambra governor was spotted in Imo state yesterday, July 10, serving food to guests at the event.  The viral footage captured the politician carrying several trays with plates of food as he went about serving the meals.

The videos elicited mixed reactions, as many condemned the former presidential candidate for seeking attention, while others noted that what Obi did was a tradition in Igbo culture and had nothing to do with politics.

However, reacting to the development in an Instagram post on Friday, Morayo, who also hosts Your View on TVC, tackled politician Obi for projecting what she described as signs of desperation.

She then urged the sitting president to take a leave of absence and give Obi a chance to govern for six months, adding that she’s curious to see the magic he will perform.

Abacha: Obi releases appointment letter, says “I never met’ him

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has released an official appointment letter from 1996 to address the increasing allegations that he served under the late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, who is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most repressive leaders.

TheNewsGuru reports that the military leader, Abacha ruled Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998. His regime was notorious for widespread human rights violations, suppression of dissent, and large-scale looting of public funds.

However, controversy started after some critics accused the former Anambra governor of secretly collaborating with the Abacha regime, of which he denied.

In a new development, Obi on Wednesday shared a document appointing him to a Federal Government Task Force on Ports Decongestion, clarifying that his role was purely economic and civic, not political.

Dated April 24, 1996, the letter was issued on the official letterhead of the Federal Ministry of Finance, signed by then Minister of State for Finance, Alhaji Abu Gidado.

It was addressed to the Secretary of the Lagos Commerce Association, and formally appointed several individuals—including Obi—as members and coordinators in the national task force created to resolve port congestion issues.

Obi was appointed to serve at the Apapa Port alongside Edwin Okeke. Others listed in the letter include:

Mr. Okey Ezibe – Coordinator for all ports

Chief Chike Chigbue – Assistant Coordinator and liaison with the police at FIIB Alagbon

Joe Best Okoye and Prince Tony Akanegbu – Tin Can Island Port

Patrick Chibueze and Chief Okey Okereke – Murtala Mohammed Airport

The letter also instructed relevant security and customs agencies to cooperate fully with the appointees to ensure smooth port operations.

“You are hereby appointed as co-opted coordinators and co-opted members of the Ports Decongestion Committees in Lagos… You are urged to cooperate with the Team Leaders of the various Committees of the Ports,” the letter read in part.

Peter Obi reacts as Auchi polytechnic’s SUG election turns bloody

A former presidential candidate, Peter Obi has outrightly condemned the violence that led to the death of two students in the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State.

TheNewsGuru reports that the Student Union Government (SUG) election of the Auchi Polytechnic, took place over the weekend, but turned chaotic after thugs allegedly evaded the election ground snatching ballot boxes and other election materials.

In the video that surfaced on social media, captured the moment students were running for their lives as security operatives used teargas to bring the situation under control.

Reports indicated that at least two people died in the incident while several others were left with different degrees of injuries.

In reaction to the incident, Peter Obi described the incident as a “national indictment”, saying“The society we abuse today will eventually take its toll on our children, because they will only learn by our example. Everything we are experiencing in our country today is a reflection of the decay of civility and orderliness.

“When we choose to conduct both our public and personal lives with bad behaviour and rascality, we normalise bad behaviour, lawlessness, and criminality.

“I watched a heartbreaking video that showed students in Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State running for their lives as they were being shot at during their student election yesterday which left 2 students dead and several injured.

“The question is: Where did they learn it from?

“Are they cursed, or are we the political leaders who are cursed?

“When we have chosen to “fight, snatch it, grab it, and run with it” how can we expect our children to do it rightly and democratically when they have learned from us?

“This is not just disgraceful, it’s a national indictment. When we, the leaders, have chosen to fight, snatch, grab and run with it, our children have learned similar and rascality is now a normal situation.

“It is now up to us, the leaders, to learn how to restore civility, order, and core values in our society by ensuring that our character and behaviour reflect the change we seek in our society.

“We must do better, for our students, for our children, and for our country.”

Daddy Freeze: Peter Obi speaks on meeting Abacha, working for him

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has stated that he never knew nor met former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha during his time in power.

Obi made this known while speaking during an appearance on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, where he dismissed speculations that he worked with Abacha.

The clarification comes in the wake of recent allegations by Daddy Freeze, a media personality who accused Obi of working with the Abacha regime.

However, speaking during an appearance on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Obi stressed that everything he has done throughout his career remains in the public domain.

The former Anambra State Governor said, “There was a time during Abacha’s government, because, you know, when Abacha took over, he said, all ports, and everything closed.

“So they came out with a policy that caused congestion in our ports. Goods were not being cleared, goods were not being exported and everything. And some of us felt we needed to go and see the head of state then, or at least the Minister of Finance.

“So we came to Abuja, we had an audience with the Minister of Finance and the president, and we were able to elucidate the problem we are facing.

“The President then directed his Finance Minister that he should take some of us who are the leaders, should just form a committee to decongest all reports in Nigeria, make sure that in each committee, one of us is involved.

“That’s the only thing that had to do with the port. And then when we finished maybe two weeks, three weeks, they said it is now time to probe and reorganise the port.

“Because I have written in one of my comments that Nigerian Port Authorities, the only port I know in the world that have an office outside its country of operation, and couple that they’ve seen whether they said he will become a member of the panel.

“I have never met Abacha. I don’t know him. I know he was in military. Everything I have done in my life is in the public space.”

  • 2027: Opposition coalition faces major test as Atiku, Obi clash over ADC ticket

2027: Opposition coalition faces major test as Atiku, Obi clash over ADC ticket

A brewing feud between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi has intensified divisions within the opposition coalition that recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The coalition, which includes notable political figures such as former Senate President David Mark (acting National Chairman), former governors Nasir el-Rufai and Rauf Aregbesola (acting National Secretary), and ex-Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, has come together to present a unified front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The unity of the coalition is currently being challenged by disagreements over who should secure the presidential ticket. While many believe that the presidency should return to the South in 2027, Atiku, who hails from the North, has expressed his intention to run for president again. In a video shared on Saturday through his verified X account, the former vice president hinted at his potential candidacy, stating, “We will decisively deal with anyone who says he will steal or engage in any corrupt practice.

“We will fight him, I swear. Enough is enough! Every nation is progressing but Nigeria’s growth is hindered by a few elements.”

Atiku in the caption stressed that the coalition was determined to turn things around for Nigerians:

“Nigerians cannot continue to suffer amidst an abundance of resources owing to bad governance. The coalition of opposition leaders under the ADC umbrella will work hard to transform the lives of Nigerians.”

Atiku’s supporters argue that he is the most experienced and battle-tested politician capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu, especially given the growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration. However, some members of the coalition, particularly supporters of Peter Obi, disagree. Obi’s running mate in the 2023 election, Datti Baba-Ahmed, cautioned that Atiku might not be the most strategic choice for the 2027 election.

“If you bring out Atiku, they know how to work against Atiku,” Baba-Ahmed said during a media appearance.

“He is welcome to win. If he wins, we will support him. But you need that candidate they can’t understand, they don’t know where to catch — that is how to win an election.”

The former senator further argued that Obi, having garnered over 10 million votes in 2023, should not settle for a vice-presidential role again.

“With due respect to Atiku, he has consistently contested all the last six elections, and this will be the seventh.

“Tell me who among us is willing to step aside and support another for eight years before taking a turn?

“Tinubu did it — he supported Buhari before working his way to the presidency.”

“The position of VP is very big. Anyway, I wanted to be, and I was rigged out. But I think Peter Obi should not be a VP, having gotten a disputed 10 million votes.”

The division spilled onto social media, with a top Obi supporter simply identified as ‘Nefertiti’ issuing a warning on X that millions of Obi’s supporters could walk away if the coalition fails to give him the ticket.

“If the Coalition fails to give Peter Obi their ticket, I and the millions that voted wisely will bail,” she wrote.

“This is 2025. Nigerians want the best man for the job.”

She also dismissed the importance of the vice presidency in Nigeria’s power structure:

“The Constitution of Nigeria assigned no specific roles to a Vice President.”

Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe, however responded swiftly, cautioning against threats and urging a democratic process.

“It is a fundamental dictate of democracy for the minority to have their say and majority to have their way,” Ibe said.

“Tickets are not given. They are contested for. Tickets are not earned by threats. They are earned by persuasion. Tickets are not earned through crisis. They are earned by consensus.”

He further advised Obi’s supporters to build bridges rather than burn them:

“It is within your democratic rights to pitch for a candidate of your choice. But it is anti-democratic to threaten, intimidate, or harass others who are also entitled to canvass for the interest of their own preferred candidates.

“Commence the process of building a consensus and not a conflict around the candidate of your choice.”

BREAKING: Peter Obi dumps Labour party, officially joins 2027 opposition coalition, ADC

The presidential candidate of the Labour party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has officially backed 2027 Opposition Coalition, African Democratic Congress (ADC) as his new platform, disclosing that the decision was not taken lightly.

TheNewsGuru reports that the coalition formerly took over the structure of the ADC at an event held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua centre in Abuja on Wednesday.

Former Senate President David Mark took over the ADC as it’s acting National Chairman, while former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, will act as it’s National Secretary.

Reacting in a statement on his 𝕏 handle on Thursday morning, Peter Obi said the coalition’s commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership.

According to the former Anambra governor, the decision to adopt the ADC came from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward.

His statement read: “Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections with Distinguished Senator David Mark serving as the National Chairman and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola serving as the National Secretary.

“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first.

“This decision was not made lightly. It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward.

“No one group can change Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls even when those bridges are uneasy.”

Peter Obi hails Ganduje for resigning as APC’s chairman

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has hailed the resignation of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as an honourable step and a model for leadership responsibility.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, tendered his resignation on Friday, officially citing health challenges. However, insider sources suggest that political realignments and speculations about the 2027 elections, including the search for a potential running mate for President Bola Tinubu, may have influenced the decision.

Reacting to the development in a statement shared via his official X handle on Saturday, Obi praised Ganduje for stepping down in recognition of his health condition.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, went further to frame Ganduje’s decision as a challenge to other public office holders who may be struggling with health-related limitations.

“Ganduje’s Timely Challenge to Leaders I have just read a news report that the National Chairman of the ruling party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position with immediate effect, citing health challenges as the reason.

I must commend Dr. Ganduje for prioritising his health above all else. With his health reportedly in decline, it is both wise and honourable to step aside, knowing that he may no longer be able to render the level of service required by the party, the people, and the nation.

By this exemplary action, Dr. Ganduje has thrown a challenge to other leaders who, due to health-related issues, are no longer able to deliver optimally. I sincerely hope they take a cue from him.

The challenges confronting our nation today require leaders who are not only competent but also physically and mentally fit, leaders with the capacity and agility to respond decisively and promptly to pressing issues.

At this critical point and difficult time, we can no longer afford leadership defined by medical tourism, long holidays, or absenteeism caused by age-related ailments. These things are taking a serious toll on our development. May God Almighty grant Dr. Ganduje a peaceful and fulfilling retirement. Indeed, a new Nigeria is POssible.”

  • Peter Obi’s brother, Ndibe heads to court to challenge demolition of Lagos property

Peter Obi’s brother, Ndibe heads to court to challenge demolition of Lagos property

Mr Ndibe Obi, younger brother of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi in last general elections is heading to court to challenge the demolition of his property in Lagos.

Counsel to Next Foods the company that owns the demolished property, Chief Emeka Okpoko, SAN, said in an interview in Awka on Thursday that the court processes have already begun.

He said: “We will make an order to be joined as parties to the case and seek leave for processes to be amended to incorporate the name of our client. We have an application seeking to set aside that judgment.

“We have a leg seeking to stay further execution. There is another leg seeking an injunction pending the hearing of the substantive matter. We also have a leg where we are saying convert this originating summons into pleading so that parties can defend the matter and for the court to hear from both sides and form an opinion”.

Going down memory lane, Okpoko said the property was purchased in 2011 and the consent of the governor of Lagos State was granted in 2013, adding that the property never had issues until the recent developments.

He added: “The land belongs to a company called Next Foods Ltd. Peter Obi’s younger brother is the majority shareholder of that company.

“The deed of assignment chronicled the history of that property right from Western Nigeria when the land registry was at Ibadan. That was when the last owners sold it. Their predecessor died leaving no will.

The majority shareholder of Next Foods Ltd, Mr. Ndibe Obi, who is the younger brother of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi, has headed to the court to challenge the demolition of his property in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to Okpoko, Judgement was given in 2024 and they waited until this June 2025 to come for execution, when it was supposed to have been executed within six months.

“We have filled our own processes to show that truly speaking, we are the owners of the property.

“Nobody served us and we did not know the pendency of the matter. All we saw was this demolition.

“These are the issues we will pontificate in court and I believe and convinced that after hearing our own side of the story, I see no reason why we will not be successful.

“The case was filled in 2023 and judgement delivered in 2024 , but as I speak, I saw them flash Certificate of Occupancy, C of O, obtained in 2025. Prior to that, we found out that what they obtained was federal C of O obtained from the Federal Ministry of Works in Ikoyi Lagos.

“That was obtained in 2021 but we had our own in 2011 and governor’s consent in 2013. I don’t think federal C of O is applicable to Ikeja GRA, but I will further dip into that. I wonder whether at this point in time, there is still anything like approval in Ikeja GRA at this time everywhere in the area is built up. The C of O cannot change any transaction that has illegality or invalidity under it.”

Okpoko said the company has consistently been meeting its obligations to the Lagos State government.

“We have been making our annual returns to the Lagos State government till date. We have evidence to that and we will annex it”, he stated.

  • Peter Obi knocks Wike over prolonged Teachers’ strike

Peter Obi knocks Wike over prolonged Teachers’ strike

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour party in the 2023 general elections, has slammed Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory for ignoring the ongoing strike by its Primary School Teachers.

TheNewsGuru reports that the strike is in its third month and there’s no end in sight and stirred up protests during the week.

Taking to his social media pages, the former Anambra governor  explained that the most critical and immeasurable component of human development today is Education.

He said it is a known and verifiable study that the more educated a nation is, the more developed it is.

He stated that the most critical investment and policy a nation needs is the education of its people, particularly children, to ensure a better future.

He pointed out that Nigeria is not only a signatory to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which highlight education as a crucial measure of development, but it also has legislation for Universal Basic Education. This law guarantees that every child should have access to quality basic education.

“Yet, right here in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, public primary school pupils have been out of school for over three months due to a strike.

“When the strike began, we all thought, ‘This is Abuja; it will only last for a day or two’. But here we are, three months later, our children are still at home and we are busy renovating the infrastructure,” Obi lamented.

He argued that the foundation of societal development is educated citizenry, not physical infrastructure. True development is about building people. It is about educating the next generation.

“A nation that ignores its children’s education” he said “is digging deeper into poverty, insecurity, and underdevelopment.”

He stressed that Nigeria “must prioritise investment in human capital, especially in basic education, healthcare, and pulling people out of poverty. That is how nations grow. That is how we build the New Nigeria that is possible.”
