2023: Ignore Keyamo’s rants over alleged Peter Obi’s self assassination plot-Aide

…says Obi is hale and hearty

Valentine Obienyem, an aide to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has advised Nigerians to discard comments made by the spokesperson of APC, Festus Keyamo, SAN claiming the party’s flag bearer is hatching a self assassination plot.

TheNewsGuru com, (TNG) reports this was contained in a statement issued by Obi’s aide, Valentine Obienyem.

    Hear him:

“The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, and by the grace of God, fueled by his merit, the next President of Nigeria, Mr. Peter Obi, is back to the country. In the last three weeks, he transversed the world, convincing Nigerians on the need to take back their country and move in sync with the rest of the world.

“Kindly ignore the falsehood making the rounds that he was attacked. May God forbid that even the very thought of such barbarism be visited on him.

“Obi has consistently reiterated his belief that politics should always be devoid of violence. This remains his political credo.

“It is pertinent to note that the news, coming shortly after Barr. Festus Keyamo’s press release, alleging plan by Obi to stage manage his own assassination is worrisome. It shows that the devil may be at work in endless and familiar scheming. We shall continue to entrust Mr. Peter Obi into the protection of the Almighty, while he ensures he is adequately protected to see through the work of re-building Nigeria that providence has entrusted unto him.

2023: APC Campaign Council denies offensive viral video of Peter Obi+video

The All Progressives Congress, APC has denied a trending video attributed to the Presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu support group circulated by LP’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports this was contained in a statement issued and signed by Spokesperson of APC Campaign Council, Fetus Keyamo, SAN, stating that:

“Our attention has been drawn to an offensive, hate-filled video made and circulated by the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, in which he accused an amorphous and non-existent “Tinubu’s Group” of spreading a Whatsapp message calling on the Yoruba not to vote for him.

“The purported message, according to Mr. Obi, forewarned the Yoruba that a vote for Peter Obi would be a vote for a seaport in South/South and South/East.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this is a transcript of the so-called message as relayed by Mr. Peter Obi:

“Yoruba shine your eyes o, if you vote for Peter Obi, it is automatically voting for seaports in South South and South East. The Igbos will stop coming to Lagos State to invest, rather they will go to Delta and Rivers States, they may even stop building houses in Lagos. It will affect a lot of Yorubas. Yoruba ro nu o.”

“Firstly, we vehemently deny the existence of any of such “Tinubu group” that made and circulated such a message. All groups supporting the APC Presidential Candidate and his running-mate have clear designations with well-known promoters.

“In addition, it is only messages released by the APC Presidential Campaign Council that are officially authorized and for which we take responsibility.

“We challenge Mr. Peter Obi to reveal the source and name(s) behind that nebulous Whatsapp message.

“We wish to state that it is obvious Mr. Peter Obi deliberately concocted that message and circulated that offensive video himself as a campaign strategy in order to come across as a victim of some kind of ethnic agenda, whereas in truth, he is the real agent provocateur of an ethnic agenda.

“As the takeoff date for campaigns draw closer, Mr. Peter Obi has suddenly realised that Nigerians are beginning to burst his bubbles as his messages are bereft of ideas, depth and clear-cut solutions to our challenges.

“His messages are only full of false data and highfalutin jargons in what is clearly a disingenuous ruse to distract a scrutiny of his empty records as a Governor of Anambra State and nothing else. Hence his easy recourse to playing ethnic card and fanning the ember of hate.

“We have in on good authority that part of the “US Strategy” (just like the failed “Dubai Strategy” his former boss and himself adopted in 2019) was to return to the country and spread ethnic hatred amongst the voters and cause chaos, then pose as the victim. They have just kick-started that plot by orchestrating and circulating the said video.

“We find it utterly disgusting, demeaning and insulting to the sensitivities and sensibilities of Nigerians for a Presidential Candidate of the ilk of Peter Obi to make such a video parroting a spurious, unverified and sham message that has the potential of deepening our faultlines as a nation and further promoting ethnic tensions.

” This is completely unbecoming of a Presidential Candidate that hopes to unite this country. Again, we note that Mr. OBJ’s latest stunt is consistent with what is now widely perceived as his adoption of hate as campaign strategy, having consistently failed to rein in his known and identifiable supporters, mostly domiciled on social media, threatening political opponents with violence and death.

“Moreover, here is a man known as a sectional irredentist, with public records showing him expelling Nigerians from a section of the country from Anambra State while he was Governor and has decidedly resorted to ethno-religious card in his activities and messaging thus far, now accusing his better of being an ethnic champion. What a supreme irony!

“We are also aware that plans are afoot by Mr. Peter Obi to fake an assassination attempt on himself and hire Labour Party boys dressed in APC caps and T-shirts to attack some Labour Party offices. It is all part of the “US Plan”. It is the first in a series of incendiary actions planned by this ill-prepared but desperate candidate.

“We call on all well-meaning Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic origins or political divides, to rise up and condemn this tactless tactics and cheap manoeuver by a desperate non-starter of a presidential candidate who has decided to resort to crude revisionism, ethnic jingoism and crass insensitivity with a view to whipping up undeserved sentiment to fuel his faltering ambition that is nothing but a flash in a pan.

“Our advice to Mr. Peter Obi is to quit the race if he has nothing more to tell Nigerians.

“We also wish to use this medium to debunk the false and misleading posts on various social media handles of supporters of Mr. Peter Obi that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is withdrawing from the race on health grounds.

“This is nothing but a figment of their warped imaginations. Our candidate is strong, healthy and fit enough for the coming campaigns. The opposition will hear loud and clear from him soon.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the royal family, the entire United Kingdom and the Commonwealth nations, over this irreplaceable loss.

  • 2023: Peter Obi meets Okonjo-Iweala, Nigerians in diaspora

2023: Peter Obi meets Okonjo-Iweala, Nigerians in diaspora

Former Anambra state governor and  the Labour Party ( LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has met with the Director General of World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the World Trade Organization.

Okonjo-Iweala made this announcement via her verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.

Her post reads: “With Governor @PeterObi at the @WTO discussing Nigeria’s economic recovery and the role of trade.”

The Anambra -born politician is on a tour to Canada, Germany, London, Rome, the United States, Switzerland, as part of preparations for next year’s general election.

The Nigeria in diaspora is making plans to open a crowdfunding portals for the presidential candidate to help during campaigns and electioneering.

Meanwhile, another prominent member of the Labour party, Professor Pat Utomi, recently revealed that the crowdfunding portals Nigerians in the Diaspora planned to launch for Obi, would be unveiled in few days time.

Recall that Nigerians in the diaspora had formed groups to launch crowdfunding initiatives for Obi. They planned to unveil crowdfunding portals with a target to raise $150 million from Obi’s supporters in the diaspora and N100 billion from those in Nigeria.

However, the plan by Nigerians abroad to create the crowdfunding portals has generated divergent views from legal practitioners in the country.

Although, Obi has urged Nigerians in disapora not to relent in contributing their quota to Nation-Building and electioneering in the country.

He pledged that his administration, if elected, would have zero tolerance for corruption and cut cost of governance.

“Our total commitment to transparency and accountability in government business is the only credible way to achieve limited to zero corruption.

“Africa will remain the centrepiece of our foreign policy. We will improve Nigeria’s diplomatic sphere of influence via peacekeeping, trade, and investment initiatives. We will pursue aggressively modalities for raising the national Internet penetration, as well as increase contribution of ICT to overall economic growth to aid national development.

“We intend to lay special emphasis on critical infrastructure, especially power, to ensure a clear measurable increase of 200 per cent of today’s generation, transmission and distribution within the shortest time possible through public private partnership.

“We will pursue intangible assets of good governance, rule of law, security of lives and properties, through an aggressive increase in personnel and equipment and inclusive training of operatives in our security agencies.

“We will emphasise patriotism, national interest, and national morale, quality of government, political will and character, which are all complimentary to the other assets. We will ensure that we have these assets in place and stress asset optimisation.

“Thinking through 2023 and beyond, we must think seriously about a leadership that is imbued with competence, capacity, credibility and commitment.  The 4 Cs will be required to turn Nigeria around. Patriotism cannot be imposed; just like respect, it must be earned through dedication, responsiveness, active engagement, orientation, and prioritising of Nigerians in diaspora. The ripple effect will be rapid and will rub off positively on the country’s economy.”

  • ASUU strike: Why TETFUND is being mismanaged – Peter Obi

ASUU strike: Why TETFUND is being mismanaged – Peter Obi

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has aired his opinion on why the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) is being mismanaged.

Obi attributed the incessant lack of funds available to address the problem of funding to universities to a situation he tagged “State Capture”.

The Labour Party presidential candidate disclosed this in a statement released on his Twitter handle as part of his administration’s plan to bring permanent solutions to the intractable ASUU strikes if elected.

The statement reads “within available national resources and (TETFUND), there should be funds to reasonably tackle the problems of our tertiary institutions and prevent ASUU strikes. Unfortunately, due to State Capture, TETFUND has been grossly mismanaged.”

The statement went further to read that “we intend to change extant and enabling policies to make access to such funds seamless, transparent, and dedicated for prescribed purposes”.

Mr. Obi who has over one million, nine hundred followers on Twitter is said to command the highest number of followership especially among the Nigerian youths.

The youths who are the most affected in the ongoing ASUU strike readily responded in the twit by calling on the Federal Government to urgently address the lingering ASUU strike.

  • Peter Obi Phenomenon: Sitting On A Time Bomb

Peter Obi Phenomenon: Sitting On A Time Bomb

    By Mideno Bayagbon

    mideno@thenewsguru.ng

Like most Nigerians, I have watched with awe the phenomenon that is the OBIdient-Datti Movement. From seemingly nowhere, Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor, former Vice Presidential candidate and new entrant into the Labour Party, has captured the national imagination. Like magic, he has ingrained himself into the imaginations of the youths, the elites and ordinary Nigerians spread across the nation’s geographical spectrum. From absolute nothing, and without the backing of the political who-is-who in the land, the Obi/Datti movement has evolved into the nemesis of the established political candidates and parties.

Earlier mocked as a social media phantom and structureless; predicted to fizzle out in no time, the contrary has become the reality. Now there is palpable fear in the camps of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidates. Officials of both parties now spend more time attacking and denigrating the OBIdient movement than on selling themselves. As it is, no one in his right political senses today describes the movement as a fluke, or as a Shakespearean tale, full of sound and fury, yet signifying nothing. The fear of Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti, the potential earth shakers, is now the beginning of wisdom. Still evolving and full of possibilities, it is nevertheless, far from its goals of taking over the reins of government. Critically, it is yet to ground itself in the Northeast and Northwest of the country.

However, despite the speed of its spread, the ObIdience phenomenon is a mere coincidence. Not even Peter Obi can boast that he planned or even anticipated what has become of his campaign so far. It is a chance encounter. An opportunity, an anguish, wanting a way to express itself. A frustrated body of youths and the elites, caged in the hopeless political quagmire which has grounded the economy, and every aspect of society, found an outlet in the ambition of Peter Obi. But the movement, at first, had nothing to do with Obi in the truest sense. He is just the adopted symbol whose lifestyle and politics resonates with the groaning and wishes of the people. On him, and on his running mate, is now vested the frustrations, hopes and expectations of nearly 200 million Nigerians. A heavy, national burden rests on their shoulders. They now embody the dreams, the aspirations, the future, at least in the thinking of their supporters.

At no time in the nation’s recent history has the hope of the entire country be invested in an individual as we now have. The #ENDSARS movement has reincarnated in the ObIdience movement. Recall  that, nearly two years ago, there was an insurrection of the youths who vented their frustration in mega rallies, mostly at the Lekki Toll Gate and in Abuja, Enugu, and some other cities. Their immediate bone of contention was the brutality of the special police unit: Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS. SARS operatives arrested, detained, robbed, maimed and killed at will, with apparent impunity. Immediate cause of the protests, however, was the viral video of a young man allegedly being killed by SARS operatives. This became the springboard on which their collective frustrations, and anger at the poor way politicians have ruined the nation, was vented.

After days of massive protests, the Buhari government on October 20th, 2020,ordered a scotch earth action against the protesters who were singing the national anthem and waving the Nigerian flag. A yet to be determined number of them were allegedly slaughtered by the military who were deployed to end the protests. And in that crazy night of bullets and bloodshed and tears, the youths were pummelled and driven off the streets.  President Buhari was to later confess that the protests were organised to truncate his government and remove him from office.

But they are back now, in full force. They have rechristened themselves the OBIdient Movement. More than ever, before our eyes, a revolution of sorts is shaping up.  And it is not led by urchins. Diverse and seemingly unstructured, a  determined body of youths, who want to use the political process to change theirs and the nation’s ugly story is amalgamating. The same coordinated tactics used in organising the #ENDSARS protests is being deployed. The social media which the Tinubu and Atiku camp so derided, is the weapon for strategic organisation and mobilisation. This can be attested to by the hugely successful One Million Man marches. Without any visible structure, they have continued to mobilise millions of youths to the streets. They are marching;  showing their might in humongous numbers, in cities across the South and Middlebelt.

They are self funding and determined to have their say and way in the coming elections. That is why to every careful political observer, Obi and Datti are convenient tools in the determination of the youths to end the terribly poor leadership, the downward slide of the country in all development indices. It is their own way of saying Enough is Enough; their own way of issuing a red card to the old guard political gladiators who have misruled the country into becoming almost the worse country on earth to live in.

Should they win and Obi emerges the President of Nigeria, there is little to envy President Obi about. The job is already cut out for him. It is huge and almost insurmountable. This is because, for a people who have been persistently gang raped by those who call themselves their leaders in the last 23 years, Obi is a hope long lust for. On him will be placed the all encompassing virtues of a messiah, a superman, a magician with the wand to right all wrongs, fix all the problems bedevilling the people. They will hold him to his rhetorics, the solutions canvassed, the opportunities promised. They would hold him to a working, better Nigeria forgetting the huge bottomless rot he will inherit.

However, should the dreams of a better way of governing, of a better, caring, selfless leadership coalesced into a victory for the Obi-Datti ticket, one thing is sure. They can only be foundation builders. The rot is too deep for any significant impact in their first four years. Yes, they can arrest the drift into anarchy on all fronts. They can make the youths, the elites and ordinary Nigerians believe in Nigeria again. They can begin the right stimulation of the mentalities of the youth and elites, redirecting and empowering them, upscaling their skills and engineering them towards production; releasing their creative juices to lay a new foundation for a new Nigeria which must now begin to climb the ladder of development, howbeit from the very bottom rung of the ladder. That will be the hope of the common people in the villages and towns and cities across the length and breath of the country.

But should the Obi-Datti ticket lose the presidency next year, especially if the youths are convinced they were cheated , robbed and the system unfairly manipulated, trouble looms. The aborted #ENDSARS protests might just be resurrected. The season of the  Nigerian spring might just happen on us. That truly might be the real revolution.

Things cannot be any longer as they have been in the last almost 23 years. This is why all men and women of goodwill must come out now to be counted. The 2023 elections is a double edged sword. It could bring about the long awaited seed of good governance or it could led to street protests never imagined or seen in the country before. INEC whose chairman says it is ready to conduct the elections in all the territories of Nigeria must do more than talk. I am sure a repeat of the farce of 2019 where over 80 percent votes were allegedly recorded in the terrorists hotbeds of Borno, Yobe, Zamfara and so on cannot be tenable in the 2023 elections. Nigerians must see that the elections are transparently free. The electronic transfer of results must not only be deployed nationally, its must be convincingly free of manipulations.

While any of the three major candidates: Atiku, Obi, Tinubu can win the elections, INEC must be proactive. Rigging and vote buying must be checkmated. The Police, the DSS and the military who are usually accomplices of the systematic rigging machines of the parties must be patriotic. Or they must be brought to book if they are involved in any infractions. We cannot continue with politics as usual and expect different results. The country is in death throes, walking blindly in the dark valley, at the tipping point of anarchy. Whoever emerges winner of the 2023 presidential elections must be seen to have done so freely, fairly and acceptably.

  • Diaspora funds: Peter Obi’s trip is to give Nigerians hope to believe we still have a country – 3rd Force Spokesman

Diaspora funds: Peter Obi’s trip is to give Nigerians hope to believe we still have a country – 3rd Force Spokesman

Spokesman of the Third Force and Chairman National Conscience Party, NCP, Dr Yunusa Tanko has said the essence of Labour Party ‘s Presidential candidate going abroad is to galvanise diasporans into believing that in the near distant future a country known as Nigeria still exists.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports Dr Tanko made this disclosure in an interview with a national television at the weekend.

Tanko while reacting to a question on diaspora funds as alleged by APC, he explained that “what our candidate had done was to tell them that in no distant time they should come back to Nigeria and help rebuild the nation; these are people who have been contributing to the development of the country even when they are outside the country, they send billions of naira back home to their families to take care of them and so therefore such a constituency cannot be ignored.

“What they simply did was, he went there, meet with them, have a consultation with them and tell them that look yes I know we have had series of bad leadership in the past but here we can have hope because I have this capacity to turn around the fortune so that you will not only be sending money home you will be able to use your money for the betterment of your people back at home and that is exactly what he is going outside the country to do.

He further explained that there was no time party members or one of the leading personalities said they were going to challenge the issue of getting funds from abroad: ” No not at all, as our name implies he said obedient simply means that we are obedient to the laws of the land and everything we do is going to be within the ambience of the provisions of the law, as Nigerians also we have the power or at least we have the right to challenge the laws if they are not suitable to us but that is not the issue at the moment.

“Every Nigerian has his right to do what is within the ambience of the law and we will respect that accordingly we will not go against the provisions of the laws of Nigerian nation that is the reason why we want to empower it and make sure that it works for the Nigerian people.

“Exactly Peter Obi did not go outside this country to solicit for funds that is affirmative, what he did was simply to visit our brothers and sisters who are in the Diaspora, who have been pushed out of this country due to bad leadership.

” Many of them left this country not because they are willing, they want to go but they felt that the country was not working and I think credit should be given to Peter Obi for the ability to galvanize the Nigerian people in the Diaspora giving them hope that yes Nigeria can work and work under his leadership.

“Now let’s look at it, these are people in millions who have left the shore of this country; doctors, teachers, technocrats, businessmen, persons with disabilities, all of them have left this country not because they want to leave but because they felt that the country is not working and so therefore he traveled to tell the Nigerian people outside the country that there is capacity in him and that he can move Nigeria from a docile country to a workable country.

“He also told them that yes whatever it is that they are trading outside can be done in Nigeria.

On Prof Utomi’s comments, he said “Let’s be clear I listened to Prof. Pat Utomi’s position which is very very clear there’s no ambiguity in what he’s saying and what I am saying. What we are saying is simple these are Nigerians living outside the country and they have a right to, they have been giving money to their own brothers and sisters at home, do you call that money laundering?

“They give their people who are in total abject poverty which has been the position in which the government have put them into or leadership of the past have put them into and so they’ve been helping their people, would I call that money laundering?

“They’ve been helping, they’ve been even building businesses at home some of the businesses that they built at home are so large and economically endowed, would they call that money laundering?

“They are helping their people, are we now saying that we are exorcising, Nigerians who are living outside the country in order to help the country, no,
I think we should give kudos to the ability of Peter Obi for him to have gone outside the country to mobilize Nigerians and giving them hope rather than castigating him.

  • Hope amid desolation – By Sonnie Ekwowusi

Hope amid desolation – By Sonnie Ekwowusi

Unmistakably the battle line for 2023 Presidential election has been drawn among three competing groups-the Obi-dients, BAT and Atikulation- even though it appears Atikulation, which is still battling to survive the phenomenal internal squabble threatening its very soul, is yet to throw down the gage. The Obi-dients affirm again and again that theirs is not a political party: theirs is a mass movement comprising the country’s vibrant young people that constitute the bulk of the Nigerian population. Theirs is a mass movement of the oppressed, University students left to rot at home, ASUU, the hungry, the sick, the dying, the suffering, pensioners, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), men and women who have not been eking out a simple living in the last seven years. The aforesaid categories of Nigerians come from a variegated bloodstream of Nigerian society. They are united in their unalterable resolution and demand for a breakaway from the ruinous pre-existing legal order. They are demanding for a creation of a new Nigerian order where work culture and serviceable public ethics would guarantee hard work, honesty, diligence, meritocracy and human flourishing.

Unfortunately we live in a time in which brainlessness and stupidity are being assumed into politics. Most Nigerians have lost faith in the Nigerian project. Walk into a beer parlour, for instance, and say you feel optimistic about the future, and you may be asked to vamoose on account of your reveling in an uncommon utopia. That is how bad things have become in Nigeria. With its separation from reason and noble ideals, the banal politics we play in Nigeria finds itself unable to distinguish the good from the ugly. Certainly a political culture that creates perennial loopholes for flourishing incompetence, parasitism, official corruption, graft and conversion of the people’s commonwealth into personal fiefdom calls for an immediate change. Merely casting hope in an empty democracy run by brainless men to provide the much-needed instant miracle to improve the living condition in Nigeria is to live in a fool’s paradise.

The truth is bitter. But the bitterness ingrained in the truth does not alter the truth. The truth remains the truth even if it is hotly contested. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. We should reflect on the fact that BAT has publicly vowed to continue the perfidious legacies- official corruption, nepotism, insecurity of lives and property, islamization of Nigeria, incestuous narcissism, stone-headedness, cluelessness-of President Buhari. Ask BAT about national rebirth they would mumble something to the effect that it is their turn to rule Nigeria or they will throw their overflowing colourful agbada attire here and there in a way that suggests that insanity has taken a permanent residence in the land. It beats the imagination that amid the grounding, ambushing, conquest and occupation of Nigeria by the Jihadists, and, of course, amid the endless killing and persecutions of Nigerian Christians, BAT is remorselessly fielding a Muslim-Muslim team in the Presidential race. This is evidence that BAT has no respect for the teeming population of Nigerian Christians. Another evidence is that BAT has never condemned the escalating ethno-religious killings in the country. For instance, BAT finds nothing wrong in the recent massacre of innocent church worshippers at St. Francis Catholic in Owo, Ondo State by terrorists. After Deborah Samuel was murdered by fanatical Muslim students and the whole country was thrown into mourning, BAT did not condemn the murder. When a member of the Vigilante Group was stoned to death and set ablaze by Muslim extremists for allegedly insulting Prophet Mohammed or an Imam, BAT also kept mum. BAT did not publicly condemn the Abuja-Kaduna-train bombing and abduction which occurred on March 28 2022. Amid complete collapse of State security architecture, the terrorists have laid monumental siege not only in Kaduna State but in Niger, Bornu and Nasarawa States murdering, maiming, raping, intimidating, and terrorizing their victims unabated. Yet BAT has not uttered a word in condemnation. Instead BAT is busy saying that it is their turn to be crowned the President of Nigeria. The politics of BAT is not the politics imbue with ideas but the politics of entitlement.

This is BAT for you. It is obvious that BAT lacks a sense of justice. It is clear that if elected President BAT would make a disaster President. Electing BAT as President of Nigeria would trigger off more Islamic terrorist attacks in different parts of Nigeria. By his action and inaction, BAT has shown that they are in sympathy with the Islamic terrorists. Can you believe what I am about to say now?. Can you believe how debased the political culture of BAT is?. How broken is their politics? How intimidating and barbaric their political campaigns are?. Ostensibly unable to match the Obi-dients’ wisdom; Obi-dients’ sustained mass mobilization of the people; Obi-dients’ call to a return to the fundamental values that once made this country a great country, BAT has recently resolved to, among other things, threaten the lives of key Obi-dient figures on social media. They also intend to threaten the family members of the Obi-dients so that they would be compelled to abandon the Obi-dient movement. Keyamo is already issuing some violent and intimidating statements against political opponents. Also the DSS and security agents are likely to be recruited to go after key members of the Obi-dient movement. They will likely link some Obi-dients with IPOB and thereafter bring trumped up charges against them in order to arrest them and charge them to court, if possible. Many Obi-dients are likely to be arrested and falsely accused of financing IPOB. The businesses of some Obi-dients and the businesses of their respective family members are likely to be threatened as well. They may recruit the EFCC to intimate the donors to and fund- raisers of the Obi-dient movement. It is not unlikely that they are also planning to use prominent members of BAT to intensify their false accusations against the Obi-dients through the electronic, print media and on social media too. They are not unlikely to use the Igbo language to link Peter Obi to IPOB in order to call for his arrest. Already Malami is threatening that Peter Obi might be prosecuted for allegedly receiving financial sponsorship from abroad. At the moment they are compiling a list of key Obi-dients who must be stopped before they use the Obi-dient movement to stop BAT. Already instruction has come from the top that public advert spaces should be denied the Obi-dients in Lagos so that they would not use them to advertise the Obi-dient political campaigns when the political campaigns kick off on September 28.

With BAT in power, there would never be a separate place for Christianity in the public order except on the terms defined and dictated by BAT. Truth would become a matter of indifference. And peace would disintegrate when truth becomes a matter of indifference or a purely interior sentiment. Thus peace would not be that “tranquility of order” that St. Augustine had postulated wherein the individual persons saw and understood the truth of things and agreed to live accordingly. Peace would be built on the supposition that no truth existed or could exist.

This is why you and I must fight now for the future of our country. The Nigerian nationalist taught us many lessons. They taught us that freedom is a cause worth fighting for. “Give me liberty or give me death,” said Patrick Henry. So many brave country men and women of ours have died in the pursuit of freedom. As we see threats to freedom and those ideals which our nationalists lived for and died for, we need to fight to reclaim our freedom. Even though Nigerians have lost faith in President Buhari and the APC they have not lost faith in themselves. We will defend Nigerian values, rights, and freedoms. We will not let President Buhari ruin this great country. We can retake our Nigeria from Buhari in February 2023. But before that can happen, BAT is advised to eschew bitterness, violence and intimidation. Violence has never been used to solve the problems of mankind. Violence is a recipe for anarchy. We don’t want anarchy that could stall the elections next year. BAT should play the politics of ideas not the politics of violence and intimidation of political opponents. INEC must jealously guard its independence and its impartiality.

INEC must conduct a free and fair Presidential election to prevent the Nigerian young, majority of whom would be monitoring the election, to attempt to set Nigeria ablaze. President Buhari has publicly said that he is looking forward to handing over power to his fellow BAT member. This is probably why some of the 19 newly-nominated Resident Election Commissioners (RECs) Are members of the APC. SERAP and others are calling for inclusion and transparency in the nomination of RECs. He who pays the piper dictates the tune. If the Presidency is the sole nominator and financier of INEC’s RECs it means that the RECs are under control and bidding of the President. This is why SERAP and others are saying that the power of nominating the RECs should be taken away from the Presidency and given to an impartial and independent body comprising Nigerians from different cultural, religious and political spectrum. Therefore the National Assembly, political parties and Nigerian stakeholders should reject 19 newly-appointed (RECs) so that the 2023 election results will not be compromised.

Finally, it is true that the day is dying but we must be hopeful. We must be optimistic. The rock rejected by them would soon become the corner rock. A rock that will make them stumble, a solid rock on which foundation a flourishing Nigeria will be built. So, be ready to vote wisely in February 2023. This is the only way you can account for the hope that is in you. And say to those whose hearts are frightened: be strong, fear not. Do not return evil for evil, reviling for reviling; but on the contrary, bless those who oppress you, for the eyes of the Almighty are upon the just, the face of the Lord is against those who concoct evil and his ears are not open to their prayer. With the sun rising from the East and setting in the West, North and South, streams of living water will flow out in abundance for all; the lame will leap like a stag; streams will burst forth in the desert, and rivers in the steppe. The burning stand will become pools and the thirst ground springs of drinkable water.

Diaspora donations to Obi’s campaign lawful – Lawyer says

A human rights lawyer, Festus Ogun, says donations by Nigerians in the diaspora for the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, are legal in Nigerian laws.

He said such do not violate any law and are therefore acceptable.

The lawyer who is the principal of Festus Ogun Legal, stated this in a press statement he made available to the press on Monday.

According to him, those who hold otherwise rely largely on Section 225(3)(a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as altered) and Section 85 of the Electoral Act, 2022.

However, he said these provisions of law are generally inapplicable to this instant case, and those who rely on them to demand from INEC the disqualification of Mr. Peter Obi, which is itself laughable, are either mischievous or misconceived.

The statement read, “Following the pledge of a Diaspora Support Group to crowdfund $150m for Peter Obi’s campaign, concerns are raised in some quarters over the legality and constitutionality of diaspora donations made in respect of Mr. Peter Obi’s Campaign.

“In fact, some groups reportedly called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ‘without delay’, disqualify Mr. Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, from the 2023 Presidential race.

“To be clear, donations made by concerned citizens and support groups (either in Nigeria or in the diaspora) to Peter Obi and his Campaign Team are not in violation of any living law in Nigeria.

“Those who hold otherwise rely largely on Section 225(3)(a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as altered) and Section 85 of the Electoral Act, 2022. With greatest respect, these provisions of law are generally inapplicable to this instant case, and those who rely on them to demand from INEC the disqualification of Mr. Peter Obi, which is itself laughable, are either mischievous or misconceived.

“Section 225(3)(a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as altered) provides that: ‘No political party shall hold or possess any funds or other assets outside Nigeria; or b. be entitled to retain any funds or assets remitted or sent to it from outside Nigeria’.”

“A careful consideration of the sections of law reproduced above shows that the 1999 Constitution simply prohibits a POLITICAL PARTY from holding or possessing any funds or other assets outside Nigeria and from retaining any funds or assets remitted or sent to it from outside Nigeria. The Electoral Act, by virtue of Section 85, only complements the constitutional provision by prescribing punishment for its breach.” Ogun further explained.

“Having cleared that, it is safe to say that donations made to Mr. Peter Obi or his Campaign Organization in furtherance of his Presidential Campaign cannot be said to be made to a Political Party as envisaged under 225(3)(a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution. Neither Mr. Peter Obi nor his campaign Organisation is a ‘political party’ and must not be mistaken or confused for Labour Party, a duly registered political party under the law. It would have been a different ball game entirely if the donations were made to Labour Party as a political party.

“Donations made to political candidates or their campaign teams are not caught under 225(3)(a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 85 of the Electoral Act and are therefore not illegal and unconstitutional.”

His statement is in reaction to a call by some groups for the Independent National Electoral Commission to disqualify Obi from the 2023 presidential race for allegedly seeking funds abroad, contrary to the Electoral Act.

I’m richer than Joe Biden, I can’t steal your money – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of Labour party,  Peter Obi, has revealed that he’s richer than  Joe Biden the president of the United States of America.

Obi said he is richer than Biden, who is worth $8.9m, because God had “over blessed” him.

Obi made this statement in America when giving assurance that he would not steal public funds if elected into office in 2023.

“If I take public money that I’m not entitled to, God should punish my children and me, not because of anything but God gave me enough.

“I say to people, President Biden is worth 8.9 million USD. Why should somebody like me steal public money when I am richer than the American President? I am already over-blessed by God. We just need to develop our country.

“I’m not looking for a private jet, sophisticated house or to buy a house in America because I can’t live in America.

“What we are doing is not about the normal politics or contesting elections.”
