‘Peter Okoye did more than Harry to protect his wife’-Nigerians liken Prince Harry, Peter Okoye’s marriages

Nigerians on social media have compared the situation Prince Harry and Meghan Markle encountered in the royal family with the marriage between Peter Okoye and his wife, Lola.

In a no-holds-barred interview with talkshow host, Oprah Winfrey, Markle said that she faced aggression from royals while she lived in the palace due to her race.

This made her husband, Prince Harry, to take sides with her and they decided to step down from royal duties and moved to America.

Twitter users have taken to the platform to reexamine the case of popular singer, Peter Okoye, fondly called Mr P ― one half of the defunct singing group, P Square.

There are speculations that the music group, which consisted of twin brothers, Peter and Paul, began having issues after Mr P decided to marry Lola. It was also alleged that their mother was not in support of the marriage before her death, but the singer went ahead to fulfil his wishes.

Nigerians took to Twitter to compare both situations

A Nigerian entertainment writer, Joey Akan, noted that Peter Okoye did more to protect his wife than Prince Harry. He tweeted, “Peter Okoye (Mr P) did more than Harry to protect his wife. Fought his family and left them; quarrelled with his twin, scattered Psquare ― a legacy world-beating successful music group ― for his wife. But he was still villainized here by men and women. Is he not a Nigerian man?”

Another Twitter user, @Letter_to_Jack, in several tweets, queried why Peter Okoye was not praised the way everyone was hailing Prince Harry.

A Twitter user, @uncle_ajala, wrote, “When Peter Okoye ( P Square) stood with his wife against his family’s wish, moral lessons, praise & worship were not flying up and down. Now that Prince Harry is standing with Meghan against the royal family, see praise & worship of Harry & dragging of Nigerian men up and down.”

He wrote, “Peter Okoye was not celebrated this way for standing with his wife against his family. Why?? I mean the story kinda looks similar in a way.

Peter of defunct group, ‘P-square’ has joined many Nigerians in rejecting the approval for reopening of Lekki Toll Gate.

The Chairman of the panel, Justice Doris Okuwobi, delivered the ruling on Saturday.

However, many young Nigerians kicked against the decision, describing it as an act to obstruct justice.

They noted that the Lekki toll gate should remain shut till investigation is concluded by the judicial panel.

Peter Okoye, reacting, kicked against the ruling, declaring that the toll gate will not be opened until justice is served.

The singer made this known on his Twitter page.

His tweet read: “If una like make una go hand over Lekki tollgate to Jesus( If you like handover toll gate to Jesus) No justice, NO LCC.

“End SARS, No more toll gate.

“Make them no think am! We will never forget what happen at that Tollgate on the 20th of October 2020.”

However in a chat with Punch, Paul Okoye noted that the feud has been ongoing for a long time.

“Our case is like that of a husband and wife whose marriage is not working but post lovely pictures on social media. People who don’t know the details would see the rosy pictures and plead for the union not to break up. But, they don’t know what is happening behind closed doors. The best thing is actually for them to go their separate ways.

“Some people think that all these started recently but it has been going on for a long time. I can confidently tell you that my first solo album was supposed to be ‘Game Over’ (released in 2007). That title, ‘Game Over’, meant I was done with the group. I recorded the album as a solo artiste and sent it to some people but they were surprised that I was the only one on the album. People said different things and I later shelved my plan.”

We are not the first group to split — Peter Okoye fires critics

Peter Okoye better known as Mr P has condemned critics who constantly ask him to “bring back” Psquare, the now-defunct music group he shared with Paul Okoye, his twin brother.

The pop star took to social media on Thursday to state that the group have moved on, adding that he has no intention of going back to the group.

In the extensive post, Peter asked why people are so concerned about Psquare when they are not the first group to split.
“Let me get this off my chest before some people start their usual preaching. Listen, nothing lasts forever and change is constant. Everyday they continue barking; apologise to your bros, bring back our Psq, we don’t know Mr P, we only know Psq, he doesn’t know how to sing, he is nothing but a dancer, his career is dead, such a noise maker, why is he so Childish, you are now an upcoming artiste. Waa! waa!! waa!!!,” he wrote.

“Mr P’s fans is all that matters now. If you are still angry that my handle still has Psq come and remove it yourself. We have since moved on and its best y’all do the same. Support who you wish to support and move on. It is not a competition and I am not even giving any room for that.

“This is no longer about what you want! It is about what we want, so respect our decisions. We are not the first group to split or make such decisions. Plantashun Boiz, StylePlus, Mohits and Remedies. So enough of the time wasting. Blood is thicker than water! Blood is thicker than water! Please my wife and children are they the water or Zobo?”

Speaking further, Mr P also addressed those who humiliated him for his Zoom Lottery business while sharing his plans for the forthcoming year.

“I’ve been attacked and shamed because of my Zoom Lottery platform with some people going as far as saying I’ve become Baba Ijebu; for all those who have used this line. I hope you are aware that that organisation employs hundreds of people, puts money on the table for some and as at 5 years ago, the owners networth was put around $500m (think about it),” he added.

“So in 2021 asides The Prodigal Album, get ready for my major hustle starting from January. Zoombet (Sport betting), ZipRepublic (Clothingline), ZipAwoof (Bidding Platform), The Okoyes (reality tv series), and Aphro (Liquor Drink).
“Our first single from the shelves of the Prodigal Album, ‘Follow my Lead’ is out tomorrow.”

  • Osaze Odemwinge ends rift with Peter Okoye after Instagram spat

Osaze Odemwinge ends rift with Peter Okoye after Instagram spat

Peter Okoye, Nigerian singer better known as Mr P, and Peter Osaze Odemwingie, ex-Super Eagles player, have apologised to one another over their recent spat on Instagram.

Osaze had rebuked the music star on Tuesday for sharing a video of a dance challenge that involves people breaking bottles on their heads to his fans. He had also accused him of “robbing people in broad daylight” with his business.

Okoye, who didn’t take the admonition flippantly, took to his Instagram story to say that the football star’s comments were indicative that he is “sick and needs help.”

Realizing his remarks had offended the singer, Osaze shared a video on the social media platform wherein he apologised to Okoye for judging and condemning his business.

“My bro, I didn’t mean no offense, to be honest, but you know we are brothers… As you offered to pray for me, feeling like things no dey alright for me, I thought I’ll do the favour back because what you sow is what you reap. So you pray for me and I pray for you… You were my favourite singer of all time, and you will remain my favourite,” he said.

Speaking further, he explained that the reason he earlier condemned Okoye’s business was because he doesn’t support gambling.

“When I watched the video about the guy that took his mum’s last N500 to gamble, basically what you are doing is encouraging gambling. Some people win and some lose. He went into tears saying his mother is ill, she has cancer and she is on chemotherapy. He said you asked him why he is crying and he said he took his mum’s money from her account, her last N500 to buy the ticket,” Osaze said.

“Luckily he won but I believe there are some guys who didn’t win on that day and possibly took their dad’s or mum’s or friends last money because they believed they will win. So in that situation, I think you should have said to him that he is lucky today, but don’t do that again because if he didn’t win that means they might not have a meal that day or next. And I believe some people borrow money to do this thing and when they are in debt they end up arrested, beaten up and all that, so that was my worry really.

“In 2019, I was offered endorsement deals from gambling companies that were launching in Nigeria. I went to God with it…but my conscience didn’t let me do that in Nigeria, because our people don’t have money, they will go gamble their last money on Arsenal, Chelsea. What next, they go home beat their wife slap their kids after being disappointed. So I said no.”

In the same vein, Mr P took to his Instastory to apologise to Osaze.

We will not want to answer whether she is in Canada for now but she is not in the country and she is safe.

He continued, “I cannot tell you if DJ Switch testified at a Canadian parliament, but if you see that the Canadian parliament posted it, then she probably did it. “She got threats from every angle; she received death threats from every angle; so, she just had to leave. I am just going to say this because of her safety, we just have to keep things quiet low.”
