  • Psquare is no more, get used to it- Peter Okoye

Peter Okoye has once again declared that Psquare is no more. The pop group comprising of Peter and twin brother Paul, separated after the former stated his desire to walk away from the group.

Reacting to the criticism of his recent performance in the US, where he sang a medley of songs by various artistes, Peter took to Instagram to say it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

He said the video of the performance posted online was “re-edited” to make him look incompetent.

Peter wrote on Instagram: “Whoever posted that video just re-edited it and didn’t tell y’all I was telling a story of how I got inspired and motivated by some of our Nigerian artiste and the rest of the world.

“Besides, we have more than 100 songs which I performed and entitled to.

“We even do dis even when I was still in a group in most of our foreign concerts. You can verify that on YouTube. So it’s nothing new.

“I know it’s because some pple are still sad and mad that Psquare is no more that’s why they want to insult and say whatever.

“But I understand. Take heart guys, change is constant and I have moved on. 30 children cannot be together for 30 years… so pls get used to it.”

  • Peter Okoye’s new deal: The end of Psquare?

The ongoing Psquare crisis has undoubtedly been the recurring subject matter in the Nigerian entertainment scene over the past weeks. Their breakup tales has been a recurring story in the last 24 months.

During their previous rifts, no one ever made the move of signing a personal deal with another record label as the bond was intact then. Peter’s recent new record deal hints at the eventual ‘death’ of the brand Psquare

Peter’s grouse stems from the fact that he is being overlooked in the song writing department and so there has always been this huge need for him to prove himself as a song writer.

In his words: “I’ve been a creative person and I haven’t stopped till today. I’m very creative person but people still look at me as a dancer. It hurts but at the end of the day, I still remain a creative person,” he said in 2016 when Psquare separated for some months.

“There’s no challenges. I’ll do my best, It is something I always wanted. Now I’m on my own, I’ll do what I always wanted. I was limited before but now I’m good.”

The announcement of his new deal with Empire, an American music company officially closes the door to Psquare ever reuniting again. Peter is legally bound to the deal he’s contractually bound to honour it, no matter what. The ongoing interventions by industry stakeholders is not enough to douse the fire of Peter’s new move.

Peter who now bears the moniker ‘Mr P’ has shattered the hopes of a return to Psquare with the new move. Will he thrive in this new journey? Only time will tell

However in a statement signed by the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress(APC) youth renaissance group, Collin Edwin told Peter Okoye to leave the music industry, if he cannot withstand the ‘ heat’ stressing that security agencies will arrest him for disrespecting the government.

According to the statement: “We read the scurrilous remarks credited to Mr Peter Okoye of the Psquare group against the Federal Government’s job-saving policy in the entertainment industry with great anger and vexation.

“Least of all persons to make scathing remark against the government is the Psquare group which the local content policy of the Federal Government dusted-up from the valley of obscurity.

“Where was Peter Okoye or Psquare brand in 1999 when foreign music dominated our airwaves? If not for the government policy which mandated all broadcast stations in Nigeria to pay attention to Nigerian music by playing 95 percent of Nigerian songs every day, would Peter Okoye or Psquare be known to anybody in Nigeria today?
