  • Write a petition if you doubt authenticity of Tinubu’s wealth – Magu tells journalist

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has challenged a journalist questioning the source of wealth of All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu.

He simply asked the journalist to write a petition against Tinubu and substantiate his allegations.

Magu gave the charge in Abuja on Monday while fielding questions from reporters at an event held in commemoration of his third year in office.

A journalist had asked Magu when he would probe Tinubu who had purportedly claimed in a video in August that he was richer than Osun State.

The journalist also asked why Magu was refusing to answer questions on the video which allegedly captured the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, receiving bribes from contractors.

In his response, Magu said, “You know what? If you are really interested, write a petition and see whether I won’t act. Go and write a petition and substantiate in the petition and find out if I won’t act. It is not for us to listen to people on radio and begin to act. Yes, we have intelligence but the surest way to get action is to go and write a petition and substantiate the contents of the petition and see whether I will not act.”

  • Ekiti poll: Fayemi, APC hire 35 SANs, lawyers for defence against Eleka, PDP’s petition

Ekiti poll: Fayemi, APC hire 35 SANs, lawyers for defence against Eleka, PDP’s petition

The Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday filed his defence to the petition by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and outgoing Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Kolapo Olusola.

The defence team, comprised of 35 lawyers, would be led by eight Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

The SANs are Prince Lateef Fagbemi, Chief Akin Olujimi, Jelili Owonikoko, John Baiyeshea, Segun Ajibola, Mr Hakeem AfoIabi, Mr. Yomi Aliyu and Dr. Kayode Olatoke.

In the 2,558-page defence with over 3,000 documents as exhibits, Fayemi averred that he won the gubernatorial election of July 14, 2018 and urged the tribunal to dismiss Olusola’s petition for lacking in merit.

The team of lawyers armed with 3,500 exhibits and 1,009 witnesses were led to the tribunal by three Senior Advocates of Nigeria:

Addressing the press after filing the petition, Olatoke who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said Olusola’s petition was a waste of time as it lacked substance and was sure that the case would be dismissed by the tribunal.

He explained further that Fayemi won fair and square in 12 out of the 16 local government areas of the state, while Olusola won in four.

Olatoke dismissed Olusola’s claim of over voting in some polling units as frivolous and baseless.

He said Eleka’s first ground in his petition was based on Fayose’s phantom indictment, which had been nullified and set aside by a competent court.

The second ground of Eleka’s (Olusola) petition is alleged over voting, which is another false claim. In any case, the petition in itself is self-defeating.

The third ground is on deliberate voiding of votes as alleged by Eleka but in actual fact, majority of the voided ballots were votes meant for Fayemi, while the fourth ground is on vote-buying which is baseless as it was, Eleka’s sponsor, Fayose that was guilty of this.

Fayemi won convincingly based on his popularity,” Olatoke said.

No date has been fixed for hearing.

Recall that the governorship election in the state was held on July 14 2018 and INEC had since declare Fayemi the winner.

Ekiti poll: Fayemi reacts to Eleka’s petition against his victory

The Ekiti Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has hailed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the July 14 governorship election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, for going to the tribunal in the resolution of the dispute arising from the Ekiti election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election.

But on Friday, the PDP’s candidate filed his petition at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, seeking to upturn the victory.

Olusola claimed he scored the majority lawful votes cast in the election, as according to him, the poll was marred by results falsification, ballot stuffing and ballot snatching.

A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Wole Olujobi, said filing the action was the right of the petitioner as it would strengthen democracy.

“Even though it is the petitioner’s right to seek legal redress in his complaint, it is a fact that the July 14 governorship election that returned Dr Kayode Fayemi is one of the best elections conducted by INEC in this country in which the will of the people was freely expressed.

“For this reason, Fayemi won one of the best, freest and fairest elections in Nigeria as attested to by the elite election monitoring group, Transition Monitoring Group, which rattled Governor Ayodele Fayose, who thereafter assembled fake observers’ group populated by PDP members who tried to discredit the exercise.

“We won the election in a very free and fair manner and we have no doubt that the tribunal will find this to be the case too in their final judgement.

“Judgement on the petition will be in accordance with the law and not to the terms of the petitioner, and so Eleka cannot be a judge in this case as he sought to do in his petition.

“Now that he has filed his petition, he should leave the tribunal to decide if he won or not and not to prejudge, as the petitioner tried to do in his complaint to the tribunal.”

The statement, however, faulted claim by the petitioner that APC members and Ekiti people, in general, did not celebrate Fayemi’s victory.

“Immediately results started trickling in, almost all towns and communities erupted in jubilation.

“In Ikere-Ekiti country home of the PDP candidate, there was blaring of horns and trumpets while all relaxation points were jam-packed by a deluge of revellers celebrating their freedom from a callous and greedy administration of PDP that reversed all the fortunes recorded by Fayemi’s administration between 2010 and 2014.”

Fayemi also faulted Olusola for complaining that the closure of Ekiti radio was part of measures to rig the election.

“It is baffling that Eleka, who conspired with Fayose to commit treason by illegally seizing a radio station to criminally announce a fake result, still had the temerity to complain that the closure of the station is part of measures to rig the election,” the statement added.

In Mayowa’s words: “Funke Felix Adejumo is one of a group of Nigerian religious Charlatans who regularly visit the UK to defraud the people and the country. They ask people to sow seeds for miracles and breakthrough and flee from the country with the funds without paying tax. They go from Churches to churches; this is a religious cabal network.”

  • Rivers community petition Buhari over incessant bunkering, pipeline damage

Concerned youths of a riverine community in Bille, Rivers State have written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari over the activities of bunkers in the area.

The letter undersigned by the Bille Youth Vanguard and sent to TheNewsGuru.com on Wednesday fingered operatives of the Nigerian Army as accomplice to the criminals.

The youths, however, want the president to swing into action before things get out of hand.

Read the unedited copy of the letter below:

OPEN LETTER TO MR PRESIDENT ON MASSIVE OIL BUNKERING, THREAT TO LIVES AND DESTRUCTION OF NEMBE CREEK TRUNK LINE IN BILLE

We, the good youths of Bille Community in Rivers State, are again crying out to President to save us from a new problem that is coming from the very security people that are supposed to be saving us from the problem. Our case is now like a man who is taking medicine to cure headache and the medicine is now causing him migraine that is far worse than his original problem.

Every single day, oil bunkering and pipeline damage is happening in Bille. Even though there are security officers in the area, this crime has increased more than ever before. Our community is normal in the day time but at night it will turn into a marketplace for crude oil, whereby oil is lifted openly like they are buying and selling in Aba market, yet we have a security base around there. Please Mr President send people to Bilie without notice at night, you will see trading activity is like that of Ojuelegba that the great Fela sang about.

You will be shocked that armed men who are supposed to protect the pipeline have changed their job to protector of thieves. They are guiding the vessels of people destroying pipelines and loading crude oil. Sometimes, in broad day light, big vessels come in and out of BIlle freely surrounded by escorts. We have heard that security officials are making millions from protecting these criminals and participating in illegal bunkering. Some even fight for posting to Bille to make illegal money.

Mr. President, we beg for your strong and urgent intervention. We call on the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, other security agencies and the general public to help us reduce this evil. We also request that the Head of Operation Delta Safe should be questioned immediately. These oil thieves enjoy the protection of officers throughout the long distance they cover before they get to where they offload. Bille Youths have decided to support peace but the head of Operation Delta Save, is putting our youths under pressure to join their stealing.

We want the Federal Government to send fresh army to save us. The security officers in the area can no longer protect us, they are the ones stealing now. Oil thieves are destroying the pipeline and oil spill is destroying our land.

    Signed

    Bille Youth Vanguard.

  • NLC, TUC submit new petition, demand increase in minimum wage above N56,000

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have submitted a new request for an increase of the national minimum wage above N56,000 per month to the tripartite committee on minimum wage.

This was disclosed by at the 11th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Civil Service Union by the acting NLC chairman, Kiri Mohammed, on Thursday in Abuja.

The current national minimum wage is N18,000 per month.

Mohammed said the demand for its upward review was as a result of inflation and other economic realities in the country.

“We submitted our request, NLC has decided to look at the figure and modify it, we actually modified it, an upward review above N56,000.

“We have submitted it to the secretariat of the tripartite committee. The review is in conjunction with the TUC. You can’t do it alone, all of us met and decided to put heads together and look at the realities on the ground.”

When confronted with reports that indicate that the new minimum wage may not be paid this year as it was not captured in the 2018 budget, Mr. Mohammed said President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to implementing the outcomes of the ongoing negotiations for new wages for workers.

He said this is the reason why the government would implement the recommendations of the tripartite committee on minimum wage.

“Who made the budget? I believe if they (government) are serious, we can finish this matter towards the middle of this year, June, July.

“If we can finish at that time, then before the end of the year, certainly the President must send whatever we agreed to the National Assembly for them to look at it and for him to assent it as a law. But I know that once we agreed, government would implement whatever is agreed,” the acting NLC chairman said.

However, Mr. Mohammed lamented the slow pace of negotiations by the tripartite committee. He also said that the committee had not held any meetings since the inaugural meeting.

“We had an inaugural meeting and they have not called for a meeting. I won’t call it a deliberate delay, but it looks as if there is a deliberate delay. We have not started discussion or anything,” he said.

  • PRNigeria publisher petitions IGP over alleged harassment, intimidation of family

The publisher of PRNigeria, a press release platform for critical institutions, Yushau Shuaib, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, over alleged harassment and intimidation of his family members living in Abuja, especially the Gestapo style his family members were allegedly subjected to by a team of police officers from Lagos.

In a 30-paragraph letter addressed to the IGP dated September 11, the petitioner noted that the team from Lagos had claimed that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State was aware of an alleged massive fraud committed in Lagos involving his son, Gidado Shuaib.

The police team, led by one Inspector Babatunde, who claimed to have arrived from the office of the Lagos State Governor, had initially informed the wife of the petitioner by telephone that they were from an MTN team to deliver a seasonal gift to her, which raised suspicions from the wife before her eventual alarm, suspecting them to be a kidnap gang before nearby residents came to her rescue.

The petitioner also resisted the attempt to be taken to Lagos for questioning by the team stressing that he was not the suspect, a move also supported by the Divisional Police Officer of Wuye Police station, Solome Hardy, who reportedly told them she would never allow them to take him to Lagos because he was not the suspect of their investigation.

The petitioner, Yushau Shuaib, in the petition to the IGP is demanding the “reason and justification for the harassment of himself and especially his wife who has been traumatised since then and undergoing medication and counselling.”

Mr. Shuaib wrote: “The ridiculous treatment of myself and my wife with the detention in Wuye Police Station before our eventual release is not only appalling and scandalous but a calculated attempt to rubbish our hard-earned reputation, having used the last five years protecting and promoting the activities of security agencies in Nigeria.

In fact, through PRNigeria Platform alone, we have syndicated and published over 300 official Press Releases from the Police in the last two years of the current administration as part of our social responsibility to our fatherland.

While we have been threatened by terrorists and their sympathisers in the cause of our services, it is rather unfortunate that the police are now our tormentors.

My fear, currently is not about me, my family or my son who will surely confront the police with his lawyers over the reckless allegation on his return. My fear is: what may be happening to other ordinary Nigerians who do not have people in police or security agencies to put words on their behalf?

Only God knows how many lives could have been lost with the kind of recklessness exhibited by the Lagos Police Team that engages in the gestapo-like operation of picking up people without providing the information on their alleged offences.”

The petitioner, therefore, urged the police boss to “provide clear information of the alleged offences purportedly committed by his son; to direct one Inspector Babatunde to stop threatening them with phone calls insisting they must be in Lagos in the absence of their son. He also urged the police to tender unreserved apology for treating his family like a common criminal without adequate proof of the allegations.”

Mr. Shuaib further said his ordeal contravenes a clear provision of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 which prohibits the arrest of another person in place of a suspect. He also pointed out that with the “questionable manner” of the Lagos police team, the police boss should transfer the case to “any of your Special Investigation Units in the Force Headquarters or to the FCT Police Command.”

Mr. Shuaib said that with his strict monitoring and parental guidance over his children, he should also be held liable if his son is found guilty of the alleged offence.

I am not only a guardian but a father in every sense of the word,” he concluded.

BREAKING: S’Court affirms Obaseki’s victory as Edo Governor, dismisses Ize-Iyamu’s petition

The Supreme Court on Monday affirmed Godwin Obaseki’s victory as the duly elected governor of Edo State.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had launched a suit against Obaseki’s victory in last year’s gubernatorial election.

Dismissing the appeal as lacking merit, the Supreme Court promised to release reasons for its judgement on July 24.

On June 9, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate’s appeal at the Appeal Court in Benin City was dismissed by a five-man panel led by Justice M.B Dongban-Mensem.

Ize-Iyamu challenged the outcome of the election, accusing Obaseki and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) of manipulating the process.

The aggrieved PDP candidate claimed that the September 28 election was marked by corrupt practices, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of not complying with the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act 2010.

INEC, Obaseki and the APC were listed as first, second and third respondents respectively in the dismissed suit.

He filed his suit with the appeal court after the state’s election petition tribunal upheld the results of the election in favour of Obaseki, who was sworn in on 12 November 2016.

  • INEC to formally receive petition recalling Dino Melaye Wednesday

All is now set for the formal receipt a petition to recall Senator Dino Melaye tomorrow (Wednesday) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This was confirmed to newsmen by an anonymous source in the Kogi State Government.

The source explained that all that needs to be done has been completed and “it is left to INEC to take the next course of action.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that a total of 188,580 electorates from Kogi West Senatorial District already signed the recall register form of the senator.

Announcing the figure at the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Secretariat in Lokoja, the returning officer for the recall of the serving senator, Adamu Yusuf, explained that out of 360,098 of the total registered voters of the seven western senatorial districts comprising Yagba, Mopa Muro, Kabba Bunu, Yagba East, Koton Karfe, Lokoja and Ijumu, 188, 588, signed the recall register constituting 52.3% of the voters in senatorial district.

“Going by the above figures, it is important to let Nigerians know that we have met the Constitutional requirements of 51.1%. Dino has failed to represent Kogi West so we are calling him back home,” Yusuf added.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that INEC had last week denied knowledge of the recall process of Senator Melaye.
