VIDEO: WATCH moment Oshiomhole told Philip Shaibu off

Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC-Edo) on Thursday told the embattled Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr Philip Shaibu he is not welcome in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oshiomole said this in Benin when he spoke with newsmen on his reaction to the rumour of Shaibu’s planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC due to his current rift with Gov. Godwin Obaseki.

WATCH moment Oshiomhole told Philip Shaibu off below:

  • No plan to impeach deputy governor, he’s planning to defect – Obaseki

No plan to impeach deputy governor, he’s planning to defect – Obaseki

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has explained that there was no such plan to remove his deputy, Philip Shaibu from office.

According to Obaseki, the move by Shaibu seeking a court order to stop his purported impeachment was preemptive ahead of his alleged plan to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) over his governorship ambition.

Obaseki made this known  while briefing journalists in Benin City during a visit by the Edo North leaders, alleged that the deputy governor had been actively engaging with senior actors both at the national and state level of the APC, negotiating his way into their party, adding that he was on the verge of finalising moves to defect to the APC.

He said, “Let me put it on record that I am not aware of any plot or any scheme to impeach the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu. I have also checked and there was no such plan.

“So, the court action taken, for me, is a thing of shock and disappointment. I am trying to reflect on the move made by somebody that I have given a broad latitude to do his work as deputy governor. So, for him to take this kind of action is shocking.”

The Edo governor explained that Shaibu never discussed his governorship ambition with him.

“The last time we spoke of my successor after the House of Assembly election, I did say that we should be patient and that our task is to try and finish well and conclude all our projects we started. It’s only when we do this right that we will have the support of the people for my successor.

“I believe that this action by him is a preemptive move to get a court order, keep his ticket and move to another party. I think it’s unfair for our party. We don’t need this sort of crisis. I have been getting calls all over the world and it’s rather sad that somebody who is part of an administration will do this to the administration because of his personal ambition.”

Obaseki said he was not angry “but naturally I should be disappointed.”

It was gathered that the state Assembly made no mention  of the alleged impeachment move against the deputy govenor of the state.

The Edo state Assembly  adjourned the plenary till next Monday, August 14.

Edo Deputy Gov., Philip Shaibu retires from professional football

Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu on Friday announced his retirement from professional football.

Until his retirement, Shaibu, 52, was a signed player of Bendel Insurance FC, a club that he helped to secure a ticket to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

The deputy governor announced his retirement in Benin at a news conference, shorty after the Insurance’s last match in the Nigerian National League (NNL) against Vandrezzer FC of Lagos.

Insurance won the week 22 by a lone goal to end the 2021/2022 soccer season, amidst jubilation among the fans at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

He had earlier distributed souvenir which included jersey with his name and balls to scores of fans who were present at the venue of the final league play.

Briefing newsmen, the Edo deputy governor said he was elated that his six years sojourn with the Benin side ended with a ticket to the Nigerian apex league.

Shaibu commended stakeholders, who helped to restore the past glory of the ancient football club.

“I am so excited today that in good health, I am retiring from professional football and thank the stakeholders in Bendel Insurance for this historic moment of retiring with jersey number 40.

“It’s first of its kind and I am so excited and happy about it,” he said, noting that he was more elated that his commitment to and rebranding of Bendel Insurance yielded the desired result.

The deputy governor, who recounted his football stints in Federal Capital Territory with YSFON U-20, Foreign Affairs FC as well as defunct Ijesha United and Nigerian Prisons FC, said he won all matches in the clubs except for a draw.

The retiring player, who noted that he exited without any injury, said the qualification for promotion of Bendel Insurance to the elite NPFL was his happiest moment in the football career.

He recalled winning a gold medal for Edo during the 20th National Sports Festival.

He urged Coach Monday Odigie to live up to the bidding in the NPFL, assuring the club of the necessary state government’s support.

The club, he noted, could not afford to go back to the lower league, as they were back to where they rightly belonged.

He said the present government in Edo had demonstrated genuine love for sports with the upgrade of facilities at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and rebranded both the men and women football clubs in the state.

According to him, Edo Government has returned the state as a home to sports, and a tourist site for sports development in the country.

  • Why we want passenger airport in Edo North – Shaibu

Why we want passenger airport in Edo North – Shaibu

Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu has explained the rational behind the ongoing efforts by the Federal and Edo State Government in ensuring a standard passenger airport in Edo North Senatorial District.

According to him, “airports are important parts of economic infrastructure which significantly contribute to economic growth and overall development. When completed, the airport will fuel economic development in Edo North by attracting investors and promoting commerce due to massive raw materials naturally deposited in the district”.

He maintained that Governor Godwin Obaseki administration is deliberate and methodical in ensuring that no economic potential is neglected but must be exploited by creating the enabling environment for investors to take over the driver seat through the provision of necessary infrastructure, like airport and other social amenities to enhance economic growth.

The Deputy Governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Jimoh Ijegba Esq, said the decision to establish the airport in the location was taken by the State joint committee and the choice of Uzairue was unanimous due to the high presence of industrial and agro processing factories in the area with access to good road network. “Our decisions are always based on the economic value and benefits to our people.”

The Chief of Staff said the “presence of officials from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) here today to inspect the project site is a confirmation of the effort of Governor Godwin Obaseki in spreading massive development across the state. After today’s inspection and all necessary approval secured, work on the Edo North airport will commence immediately”.

While thanking the Governor for his vision, the ,monarch of the community, HRH the Ogieneni of Uzairue Kingdom, Alhaji Imonikhe Omogbai who was represented by Alhaji Baba Saliu Egele who is also the Chairman, Uzairue Community Development Association described the initiative as a welcome development, he assured both the federal and state government officials that the community will give the contractors the needed support and encouragement to ensure that the project is completed on record time.

On their part, leader of the delegation from Abuja, Engr Clement Awogbami who addressed the media after tour said they are in the State to get soil samples and other raw data that will enable them evaluate the suitability or otherwise of the location.

“From what we have seen here today, I don’t think there’s any hindrance or hazard that can stop the airport but based on our final findings we shall come out with our report,” Awogbami said.

Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament: Edo Govt money not involved, says Shaibu

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu has expressed the state’s readiness to host the maiden edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament, revealing that the tournament is purely private-sector driven.

The sports loving Deputy Governor made this known Monday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium,Benin during a meeting with the media and security sub committees of the forthcoming preseason tournament.

“This is the first time in the history of sports in Edo State that we are organising a major tournament without the state government putting a dime of the taxpayers’ money.

These are some of the things we have planned to achieve by creating the enabling environment for sports. This is possible because we put necessary facilities in place to encourage sporting activities in our state.

Let me also appreciate Her Excellency, the First Lady for making the women football tournament a part of her pet project, aimed at promoting the girl child”, Shaibu explained.

The Deputy Governor charged the media and security committees to be alive to their responsibilities during the week long women football extravaganza.

He noted that there have always been issues of paparazzi in conflict with security personnel, especially during presentation of awards, advising both committees to work out modalities to avoid unnecessary tension.

According to him, “Let us set a standard this time around. Our media have been criticised overtime that they are not orderly when it comes to big tournaments like the one we are about to organise here now. I want us to prove those critics wrong that we can conduct ourselves.

Speaking earlier, a member of the Betsy Obaseki women Football Tournament planning committee and former Edo Football Association Chairman, Frank Ilaboya assured that the tournament would be a memorable one of the highest standard.

He said that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the best results are achieved as expected.

The invitational women football tournament, according to the organisers, is scheduled to kickoff on Monday, September 27,2021

  • Obaseki’s deputy, Shaibu opens up on rift with governor, plans to dump PDP

Obaseki’s deputy, Shaibu opens up on rift with governor, plans to dump PDP

The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has denied having any rift with his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He denied any disagreement between him and the governor and restated his unalloyed loyalty to the latter.

“I am happy with my governor; I don’t have any problem with my governor,” said the deputy governor who is rumoured of planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“So, the issue of not being happy with my governor is not there. I remain absolutely loyal to my governor,” the deputy governor said on Monday during an interview on a monitored Channels Television programme.

When asked what went wrong with the PDP on whose platform he was re-elected into office, Shaibu admitted there were some issues within the ruling party in the state.

“There are issues we need to resolve over PDP,” he said, although he did not categorically state whether he would leave the party or not.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the deputy governor’s remarks come amid reports that he had purportedly concluded arrangements to dump the PDP for an undisclosed party, as a result of a rift over matters bothering on the running of the state.

He was said to have held a series of meetings with some party bigwigs outside the country last week where the supposed plans were finalised.

But the Chief Press Secretary of the deputy governor, Ebomhiana Musa, denied the reports in a statement on Monday, saying they were mere speculations.

According to Musa, claims that Shaibu plans to leave the PDP are complete falsehood and the figment of the authors’ imagination.

TNG recalls that Governor Obaseki, with Shaibu as the running mate, first contested the governorship election in the state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and won, defeating Mr Osagia Ize-Iyamu who was the PDP candidate at the time.

Four years into office, the governor and his deputy sought to be re-elected in the September 2020 election and won again.

In what can be described as a dramatic turn, they defeated Ize-Iyamu who had later joined the APC while they ran on the PDP platform, following a disagreement with the former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

  • Edo 2020: I will defeat Oshiomhole even in his ward, says Shaibu

Edo 2020: I will defeat Oshiomhole even in his ward, says Shaibu

Mr Philip Shaibu, Edo Deputy Governor, has said that come Sept. 19, he will defeat Mr Adams Oshiomhole, former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and immediate past governor of the state even in his ward.

Shaibu said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Benin on Sunday.

He said that this was not because he was “one superstar”, but because he was connected with the people.

He noted that he does not do money politics, nor uses money for election or bribe people for election, but does “organic” politics, which is building relationship with people.

He also said that he believed in being the messenger of the people, carrying the dividend of democracy to the people.

He told NAN that not only would he and the PDP defeat the former National Chairman in his ward, but would also win the entire six local government areas in Edo North Senatorial District.

He said that he will win the district with a very wide margin.

He said, “Edo North Senatorial District will be the easiest to win, because the political structure of the place is in our hands.”

He also disclosed that he introduced the former National Chairman of the APC to politics and organised his first ever political meeting that brought him in.

“I introduced Comrade Oshiomhole to politics. I organised his first ever political meeting that brought him in.

“I was in politics before he, I won my election in 2003, without going to court.

“But he came through the court, and I was already a member of the Edo House of Assembly 18 months before he became a governor.

Shaibu who is the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the Edo governorship election billed for Sept. 19, also said that his loyalty to the PDP candidate, Gov. Godwin Obaseki, remained unshaken.

He noted that this was because as the deputy governor of the state, his interest was the development of the state.

He added that the governor was already developing the state in many ways and he would follow and stand with him to the last.

He stressed that he would continue to fight on the side of any government that would make poverty a history in the state.

He noted that he was not just loyal to the governor, but to a vision that the governor, himself and even the former governor had shared.

He noted that Oshiomhole started the vision, which was the vision for development, moving the state forward as well as turning it from a civil service state to an industrial state and a business hub of the nation.

He disclosed that although the immediate past governor of the state was pushed forward to be the leader of that vision, regrettably, he was the only one who had pulled out of that shared vision.

“But the governor came with a promise to take that vision to the next level and he has done that.

“For instance, Oshiomhole built red roofs, but Obaseki put content into the red roofs, that is why we now have the EdoBest, because red roofs without content is zero,” he said.

He further said that if God has sustained the vision to move the state forward, he would remain loyal to the governor.

He added, “It was the same loyalty I gave to the former National Chairman of the APC, when he came to rescue the state and said the people must lead.

“That is because I am constant and that constant thing in me is supporting any government that will sustain democracy, and will make the state move forward.

“That means wealth will be redistributed, and poverty will be history.”

…warns that if care is not taken Edo will be centre of revolution in Nigeria if…

Barely one month to the Edo State guber polls, the deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon Phillip Shaibu has raised an alarm that the former governor, Adams Oshiomhole has started stockpiling arms.

Shaibu made this startling revelation in a national television programme on Monday declaring that Oshiomhole should be brought under control by law enforcement agencies.

He noted that” remember Oshiomhole is my father and before now I was living in his house each time I visit the village.

“I have informants in his house who give me updates on a daily basis on happenings in his house.

“The way things are going if care is not taken Edo State will be the center of revolution in this country.

On whether what happened in Lagos can be replicated in Edo, the deputy Governor said:

“Edo cannot be Lagos because here we are warriors and is going to be one man one vote nothing more nothing less.
