    JUST IN: 2 pilots killed as military jets crash

    Two French pilots died when their military jets collided mid-flight in eastern France, the nation’s Air Force said in a post on X.

    The two Rafale fighter jets were returning from a mission in Germany when they collided near Colombey-les-Belles, close to the city of Nancy, Wednesday’s post said.

    A third pilot ejected safely and was quickly found, unharmed, the post said.

    French President, Emmanuel Macron, expressed the country’s condolences to the families of the two pilots.

    The aircraft were stationed in Saint-Dizier, in eastern France. No details were initially provided regarding the cause of the accident.

    A passenger aircraft, belonging to Voepass Linhas Aéreas airlines crashed with 62 persons onboard on Friday.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports there was no survivors in the horrifying plane crash that occurred in the city of Vinhedo in Brazil.

    Terrifying footage shows the moment the passenger plane plunged into an out-of-control death spiral before crashing and killing everyone onboard.

    “Voepass has activated all means to support those involved. There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board,” a statement by the airline reads.

    According to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), the plane was an ATR-72-500 turboprop with 68 seats.

    It is manufactured by French company ATR, one of the largest aviation manufacturers in the world.

    The Russian Defence Ministry on Tuesday announced that its Su-34 supersonic bomber has crashed, killing the two pilots.

    The incident happened when the jet was flying a routine training mission at the country’s mountainous North Ossetia-Alania region, RT reports.

    Preliminary assessment suggests that the aircraft had suffered a technical failure, the MOD said, as quoted by the TASS news agency.

    North Ossetia is located in the North Caucasus, bordering South Ossetia and Georgia from the south.

    The twin-seat plane is capable of striking ground targets with high-precision bombs and missiles. Russian Su-34s have flown multiple combat missions in Syria and Ukraine.

    The incident occurred two months after a Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bomber crashed in southern Russia when returning from a raid in Ukraine, killing two of its four crew members.

    In October 2022, a Russian Su-34 suffered an engine failure and crashed into an apartment block in the southern city of Yeysk, killing 16 people. Both pilots survived.

    Russia’s Defense Ministry has confirmed a military transport plane caught fire and crashed in the Ivanovo region northeast of Moscow on Tuesday.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the military transport plane, an IL-76 aircraft, was captured descending toward the ground with one of its engines on fire.

    The footage has been circulating on social media. Other footage showed a column of black smoke rising from the crash site.

    “At about 1:00 p.m. Moscow time, an IL-76 military transport aircraft crashed during takeoff for a scheduled flight in the Ivanovo region,” the Defense Ministry was quoted as saying by the state-run TASS news agency.

    Eight crew members and seven passengers were said to have been on board the aircraft.

    “According to reports from the scene, the cause of the disaster was a fire in one of the engines during takeoff of the aircraft,” the Defense Ministry added.

    It did not say if there were any casualties.

    TASS, citing an anonymous emergency service official, reported that all 15 people on board the plane were believed to have died.

    The crash comes weeks after an IL-76 plane that Moscow claimed had been carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war crashed in a Russian region bordering Ukraine.

    The Ivanovo region is located more than 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

    A plane crash that happened at the Carribean has claimed the lives of Hollywood actor, Christian Oliver and two of his daughters.

    It was gathered that the privately owned, one-engine aircraft, plummeted into the Caribbean Sea moments after takeoff, killing all four aboard; Oliver, 51, his daughters Madita, 10, and Annik, 12, and pilot Robert Sachs.

    According to a statement by the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, the incident happened while the family was travelling from Bequia, a small island in the Grenadines, to St Lucia shortly after midday Thursday.

    Oliver is a native of Germany. He has starred in over 60 movies and TV series. He is most known for his roles in “Valkyrie,” and “The Baby-Sitters Club.”

    Air force confirms aircraft crash in Port Harcourt

    The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that its MI-35P helicopter crashed on Friday in Port Harcourt shortly after take off.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the crash occurred at about 7.45 am shortly after the aircraft took off for an operation against economic saboteurs in Rivers State.

    According to a statement by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, five crew members were aboard the helicopter.

    He, however, said all the five crew members, who survived with minor injuries, were being treated at the NAF Medical Centre in Port Harcourt.

    “The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is currently enroute Port Harcourt to assess the situation, see to the wellbeing of the crew and give further directives.

    “Incident of this nature is yet again a grim reminder of the dangers associated with military flying and the risks NAF pilots and technicians experience in their onerous tasks of defending our nation and deterring criminal elements from their nefarious activities,” Gabkwet said.

    An aircraft, a surveillance helicopter, suspected to belong to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has crashed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the surveillance aircraft crashed at the Port Harcourt military base on Friday morning.

    While details of the crash are still sketchy, NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet did not immediately respond to call for clarification.

    At the time of filing this report, details of any casualty were yet to be revealed. However, it was gathered that two persons and the pilot were on board.

    Tension as another plane crash lands in Abuja

    Barely one week after a private plane crash lands in Ibadan another has gone through similar experience at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and has led to a temporary shut down following a runway incursion involving an Aerocontractors aircraft.

    The Lagos-Abuja flight operated by Aerocontractors landed at the Airport and it was taxiing on Runway A4 when its nose wheel got stuck to the ground.

    However, there was no fatality or injury as passengers were safely disembarked from the aircraft while efforts are currently being made to remove the aircraft from the runway.

    The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigation into the serious incident after it was notified.

    The aircraft involved in the serious incident was a Boeing 733 with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BYQ which occurred around 10:47am (Local Time) on 12th November, 2023.

    NSIB Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr. James Odaudu, who confirmed the incident said, “The aircraft upon landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from Lagos and in a bid to exit the runway via A4 had its nose wheel stuck in the grass verge with its fuselage on the runway.

    “Consequently, the runway was closed pending the towing of the aircraft from the runway.There was no injury or fatality.

    “The NSIB, hereby, solicits information from the general public in form of pictures, video or recording evidences to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.”

    Power Minister, Adelabu breaks silence on air mishap

    The Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, on Tuesday said that his desire was to prioritise national assignment over personal interest.

    Mr Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser, Strategic Communication and Public Relations to the minister made this known in a statement in on Tuesday Abuja .

    Tunji said that Adelabu said this while speaking on the incident on Friday in which an aircraft operated by Flint Aero crash-landed at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, Oyo State on his resumption of duty.

    He said that he left Abuja on Friday because he had an appointment to visit the soon-to-be-inaugurated 2 X 60 Megavolt Ampere 132/33 Kilovolt Ampere (KVA) transmissionsStation  in Ogbomoso, on Saturday.

    ”And to also join the Lagos State Governor,  Babajide Sanwoolu to inaugurate the Oyingbo overpass of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) route on Sunday.

    ”You will recall that we had a ministerial retreat with Mr president till late Friday evening.

    ”However, due to the prior appointment in Ogbomoso. i had to personally pay for a private jet to convey us to Ibadan from the villa where the retreat was held in order to meet the Saturday and Sunday’s  appointments,”he said.

    Adelabu commended all those who showed concern over the incident, adding  that he has put the incident behind him.

    He said, “ We thank the Almighty God that the incident was not more than that, however, we  have a mandate from the president to boost power supply  in the country, we should not let anything deter us from that objective.

    ”You can all see that I am in the office to resume work. That is what matters and in the next few weeks, Nigerians will see further improvements in power supply.”

    According to Adelabu,  since  his appointment,  he had used the opportunity to engage the various stakeholders in the power sector from generation to distribution companies and other related organisations in the  value chain  to identify the issues.

    Adelabu said that he engaged the stakeholders to know the reason  why there  had not been any improvement in the sector in spite of the government’s huge investment in the sector.

    “You all know that I am not the first minister to be appointed in this ministry, we have had a lot of prominent Nigerians holding forth here. the question to then ask is ; why have we not had any significant improvement in the sector?

    ”We do not want to go  the same way, we want to know what the challenges are and these have been identified.

    ”We are interested in delivery – focussed strategy to boost power supply”, he said.

    Adelabu said that a retreat for all the various stakeholders would be held before the end of the year.

    He said that some of the stakeholders would be  the major operators in the industry, adding, ”it is important that we are all on the same page on the steps that must be taken to boost power supply in the country.”

    Air passengers, including an unidentified minister in President Bola Tinubu’s administration narrowly escaped death as private aircraft conveying them skids off runway at Ibadan Airport on Friday evening.

    There was neither reported loss of lives nor property as men of the State Fire Services, Federal Fire Services, and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Fire Services in a combined service arrested the situation.

    The aircraft as informed took off from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

    Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the State Fire Service, Yemi Adeyimika said, “Yes, it is true, Our men are on their way but I don’t have details now.

    He said that his men arrived the scene of the incident on time but met other fire services from other agencies on ground.

    What could have resulted in monumental loss was timely averted.

    There was neither loss of lives or property as the situation has been put under control.
