    Bundesliga: Nigeria’s Victor Boniface scoops player of the month award in Germany

    Fast rising Nigerian attacker, Victor Boniface has been named Bundesliga Player of the Month.

    The prolific attacker  beats Bayern Munich forward, Harry Kane, to the individual accolade in the bundesliga for the month of August.

    Recall that the 22-year-old last week  won the Bundesliga Rookie Player of the Month for August.

    Boniface scored three goals in two league outings for Bayer Leverkusen in the month under review.

    Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen  from Belgian Pro League clubside  Union St Gilloise this summer.

    He is expected to be in action when Xabi Alonso’s side take on defending champions Bayer Leverkusen this weekend.

    He was invited in the Super Eagles squad that faced Sao Tome & Principe in the last AFCON qualifiers in Uyo but was no fielded.

    Boniface has now scooped two awards in his first season in the German Bundesliga.

    EPL: Awoniyi scoops Nottingham Forest player of the month award

    Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been voted by Nottingham  Forest supporters as Player of the Month for August.

    Awoniyi  scored three goals in three consecutive matches  for Nottingham Forest in August.

    The former Union Berlin forward was massively voted for with an overwhelming 83% votes.

    The 26-year-old also won the club’s Goal of the Month award.

    The forward’s run and finish against Manchester United was voted for by most fans as the best for August.

    Awoniyi got 38% votes to win the second award.

    The striker has so far scored three goals and registered one assist in four Premier League games this season.

    Awoniyi also scored one of the goals for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2024  AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo on Sunday.

    Super Eagles Striker, Iheanacho nominated for player of the month

    Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month for February.

    The Leicester City forward scored a couple of golas and provided assist in the month of February for his club side.

    Iheanacho scored once and provided two assists in the Foxes’ 4-2 away win at Aston Villa.

    The 26-year-old then netted once and recorded an assist in Leicester City’s 4-1 home win against Tottenham Hotspur.

    The Nigerian has hit the net three times in 18 league appearances for the former Premier League champions this season.

    Iheanacho will battle Manchester forward, Marcus Rashford, Fulham goalkeeper, Bernd Leno and Tottenham Hotspur defender for the award.

    Aston Villa forward, Ollie Watkins and Fulham winger, Manor Solomon are the other players nominated for the individual prize.

    The February player of the month award will be announced anytime from now.

    Serie A: Osimhen scoops January player of the month Award

    Super Eagles Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen has scooped the Scudetto player of the month of January, 2023.

    Osimhen’s heroics for Napoli in the past weeks is unprecedented, scoring five goals and providing one assist in four matches for Napoli in the Serie A.

    Osimhen scored highest number of votes to beat countryman Ademola Lookman and host of others.

    The striker previously scooped the Serie A Goal of the Month award.

    TheNewsGuru reports that Osimhen was previously nominated for the award in October and November but lost out to Juventus forward, Moise Kean and AC Milan winger, Rafael Leao.

    The 24-year-old beat compatriot Ademola Lookman, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, Roma forward, Paulo Dybala and Lazio midfielder, Luis Alberto to the individual honour.

    The Nigeria international is third the Napoli player to have won the award in the last five months.

    Osimhen will be presented the award during the pre-match of Napoli versus Cremonese at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

    The Nigerian striker is also in the running to win the Scudetto’s golden ball award after scoring 16 goals in 17 games to top the Serie scorer’s chart.

    Nigeria’s Super Falcons player, Plumptre nominated for Barclays player of the month award

    After helping the Super Falcons of Nigeria to secure a first-leg win against the Lady Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, Ashleigh Plumptre has been nominated for the Barclays player of the month award for the month of February.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Plumptre, who plies her professional football trade with Leicester City in the FA Women’s Super League, was nominated for the Barclays player of the month award alongside Chelsea’s goalie, Ann-Katrin Berger, and defender, Jess Carter.

    Also nominated for the award are fellow Leicester City’s defender, Jemma Purfied, Aston Villa’s forward, Alisha Lehmann, and Tottenham’s defender, Ashleigh Neville.

    In the month of February, Plumptre made two appearances for Leicester City before proceeding to make her official international debut for Nigeria in the first leg clash between the Super Falcons and the Lady Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire.

    Scoring one goal, maintaining one clean sheet, winning two matches with no draws for Leicester City, Plumptre mounted a solid defence for Nigeria to ensure the first leg win for the Super Falcons in the 2022 African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers fixture.

    Currently, Plumptre is in Cote d’Ivoire with the Super Falcons for the reverse fixture of the first leg that was played in the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Nigeria.

    The second leg fixture in Cote d’Ivoire would be played at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan as the Super Falcons, nine-time champions of AWCON seek to book a place for 2022 AWCON scheduled to be held in Morocco in July.

    Alexander-Arnold wins PFA Player of the Month award

    Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for January.

    The England right-back helped his side tally seven points in the division.

    He beat Jarrod Bowen, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Harrison, Joao Moutinho and James Ward-Prowse to win to the award.

    Votes were collated in an online poll of supporters.

    Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho’s brilliant form in March has seen him named the Premier League’s EA SPORTS Player of the Month.

    Dubbed the title ‘Senior Man’ by his friend and team mate, Wilfred Ndidi, the Nigeria international scored five goals in March, including the equaliser against Brighton & Hove Albion, a stunning volley away at Burnley, which was in contention for the Budweiser Goal of the Month award, and a hat-trick in City’s 5-0 win against Sheffield United at King Power Stadium.

    He was one of eight players shortlisted for the award and beat the likes of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Manchester United’s Luke Shaw to the accolade.

    Iheanacho said: “I’m so pleased and honoured to win this award. It’s great to be recognised, but I couldn’t have done it without the support of my team-mates and the manager.

    “I’m really enjoying playing at the minute and hopefully I can push on and help the team to finish as high as possible this season.”

    The Foxes are next in Premier League action against Manchester City at King Power Stadium on Saturday (5:30pm BST kick-off), with the game being shown live on Sky Sports.

    Super Eagles striker emerges Ligue 1 Player of the Month

    Lille striker, Victor Osimhen, has been named the French Ligue 1 Player of the Month for September 2019.

    The Super Eagles star, who joined Lille this summer from Sporting Charleroi, won 45% of the vote to finish ahead of Monaco’s Islam Slimani (37%) and Nantes’ Nicolas Pallois (18%).

    Osimhen was involved in four goals (2 goals, 2 assists) for his new side last month.

    He found the net against SCO Angers and Strasbourg and provided assists in matches against Rennes and Strasbourg.

    With 7 goals in 9 appearances in the Ligue 1, Osimhen is the fourth highest goalscorer in the top five European Leagues, behind Bayern Munich’s Lewandowski (11 goals), Manchester City’s Aguero and Chelsea’s Abraham (both with 8 goals).

    EPL: Arsenal’s Aubameyang named Player of the Month

    Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for September after scoring five goals in four matches.

    The Gabonese topped an eight-man shortlist after a vote by the public, as well as by the 20 club captains and a panel of football experts.

    Aubameyang’s goals during September were worth five points to Arsenal – he scored twice in their 2-2 draw at Watford, the equalisers in draws with Tottenham and Manchester United and the late winner with a free-kick against Aston Villa.

  • Aguero emerges player of the month for January

    Sergio Aguero has won his fifth Premier League player of the month award, claiming the prize after scoring five goals in four Manchester City league appearances during January.

    Aguero has thrived in the injury-enforced absence of fellow forward Gabriel Jesus, with his goals ensuring City are on track to romp to the Premier League title.

    The 29-year-old began 2018 with a goal in a 3-1 defeat of Watford, following up with a brace against Burnley in the FA Cup and a late headed winner in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Bristol City.

    Aguero was not on target in City’s 4-3 loss at Liverpool – their first domestic defeat of the season but he scored a perfect hat-trick in a 3-1 home win against Newcastle United.

    With five Premier League player of the month awards to his name, Aguero is just one behind the joint-record holders, Spurs striker Harry Kane – the December winner – and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

    Aguero, rapidly closing in on 200 goals for City, has continued his blistering form into February, scoring four goals in Saturday’s rout of Leicester City.

    The Argentina international was also on target in City’s last match, a 4-0 demolition of Swiss side Basel in the Champions League last-16 on Tuesday.

    January’s managerial prize went to Eddie Howe after Bournemouth climbed out of the Premier League’s relegation zone and into the top half during the month, ending Pep Guardiola’s run of four successive victories.

    Willian claimed the goal of the month award for Chelsea’s superb team effort in a Premier League win at Brighton and Hove Albion.
