    JUST IN: Three policemen killed as gunmen invade, burn Delta police station [Photos]

    Gunmen have reportedly killed three policemen during an attack on Nsukwa Police Divisional Headquarters, Aniocha South LGA.

    It was learnt the attack, which occurred around 1.00am on Sunday, led to collapse of parts of roof of the police station.

    Details of the attack were still sketchy as at press time.

    According to reports, the gunmen, who arrived on foot, launched the attack from a thick forest behind the ill- fortified station.

    Although identities of the slain policemen have not been declared, sources in the community claimed some of the killed officers include an Inspector, sergeant and a Corporal.

    Sources in the community said that there were sporadic shootings that lasted for about one hour.

    Several policemen have been killed in attacks in different parts of Delta State but no police station has been razed until this.

    Gunmen attack police patrol team, kill one in Anambra

    Gunmen on Thursday attacked a police patrol team along the Nimo-Neni Link Road in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, leaving one personnel dead.

    A source alleged that three policemen were killed after which their rifles were carted away by the gunmen, who set the police patrol vehicle ablaze.

    But the Police Command in Anambra State said only one officer was confirmed dead at an undisclosed hospital.

    Toochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said no fewer than 20 unidentified gunmen in three Toyota Siena buses and motorcycles engaged the policemen in a gun duel.

    Ikenga said the gun battle lasted about 30 minutes before the assailants fled the scene after a reinforcement was mobilised.

    He said: “There was an attack on Police patrol team at Okacha junction, Neni in Anaocha by yet to be identified gunmen on March 18 at about 4:30pm.

    “The hoodlums, numbering over 20, engaged the policemen in a gun-duel for over 30 minutes before reinforcement from the state headquarters arrived, forcing the hoodlums to escape.

    “As a result, two police operatives sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention where one was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

    Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, visited the scene and that investigation was ongoing to unmask those behind the attack, while assuring that they would be hunted down and prosecuted.

  • Gunmen attack policemen on stop-and-search in Delta, kill corporal

    Unknown gunmen on Saturday attacked, killed a Police corporal on a stop-and-search duty with his colleagues at Kpakiama junction in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

    It was learnt that the gunmen swooped on the policemen, who were on routine duty at the junction, opened fire and killed the corporal, and beat some of his colleagues to stupor.

    However, some of the police officers on duty were lucky, as they scamped for safety while trying to escape the firepower of the gunmen.

    At the time of filing this report, it was not clear if the gunmen carted away any rifle belonging to the policemen.

    When contacted, the Delta state Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa confirmed the report.

    CP Mustafa who could not give the name of the deceased stressed that the matter was a fresh one.

    According to CP Mustafa, “It is true and it is confirmed. It is a police corporal that was shot dead. The police and other security agents have entered the bush in search of the hoodlums. That’s the situation.”

    Just in: Mob invades police station over killing of Lagos trader, Kudirat Adebayo

    Not less than three people sustained gunshot injuries and scores injured during a protest in Mushin, Lagos State, over the killing of a 52-year-old trader, Mrs. Kudirat Adebayo.

    The protesters had dumped the corpse of the deceased at the Olosan Police Station on Tuesday when the policemen allegedly shot and fired tear gas at the crowd.

    “Three policemen alleged to have been involved in the killing of Adebayo had been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.” Punch reports

    Recal that TheNewsGuru.com gathered that some policemen attached to the Olosan division had on Tuesday trailed a suspected fraudster to the Tollgate area of Mushin.

    The suspect was said to have resisted arrest and mobilised his friends, who attacked the cops. The policemen reportedly called for reinforcement from the division.

    The new police team deployed in the scene was said to have opened fire to disperse the attackers.

    However, a stray bullet allegedly hit the victim in the head while she prepared to fry yam cake (ojojo) for her customers around 6pm.

    The mother of two was said to have slumped and died.
