    Armed policemen and operatives of the State Security Service, SSS, have barricaded the Kano Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu barring entry and exit from the palace.

    Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is expected to escort the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his district posting in Bichi.

    It was gathered that the Bichi palace is also surrounded by armed policemen.

    Insecurity: Lagos, Ogun police operatives begin joint patrol on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

    Police operatives in Ogun and Lagos have begun a joint patrol on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to improve security in the area.

    This development became necessary to curb the incessant kidnapping on the Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

    Recall  that there had been cases of kidnap incidents and other crimes on some parts of the expressway.

    The Lagos State Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a post he shared on his X handle @benHundeyin on Thursday.

    Hundeyin said the joint patrols would cover Kara Bridge to Sagamu Interchange.

    “As part of efforts to enhance security on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Police Command in Lagos State and its Ogun State counterpart have commenced joint patrols of Kara Bridge to Sagamu Interchange.

    “The patrol teams from the Lagos command will comprise mainly the Rapid Response Squad (RRS),” he said.

    Hundeyin pleaded with motorists not to be scared by the heavy presence of police patrol on the road.

    “Motorists are, therefore, enjoined not to panic at the sight of increased police patrols, particularly the RRS.

    “This is a proactive measure to prevent crime and criminality on this stretch of the road, ” the image maker said.

    Police kill two notorious armed robbers, recover arms in Delta

    The Delta state police command has confirmed the killing of two notorious armed robbers terrorizing the community, saying that guns, live cartridges, and ammunition were recovered from the hoodlums.

    According to the Divisional Police Officer, Ovwian Aladja, CSP Aliyu Shaba, they got information that two members of the dreaded Momotimi Gang were sighted in a pub at Opete community in the Owvain Aladja, Udu LGA on the 2nd of December 2022.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Sunday, said Shaba mobilized a team of policemen to the scene.

    The statement reads in part, “On getting to the spot, the operatives found the duo of Gift Famous, aka Bobone, 29, and Edafe Onaibe, aka Laslas 1500, 25, of Enerhen, both of whom had long been on the command’s wanted list for their criminal exploits in Warri and other parts of the state.

    “But the duo, on sighting the police, fired gunshots at the operatives in a bid to escape, while the police officers returned fire and gave the fleeing hoodlums a hot chase.

    “In the ensuing gun duel, both suspects were fatally wounded while the police officers took them to a hospital.”

    The police spokesperson said on the way to the hospital, the suspects confessed to several robberies and assassinations, including the murder of one Douglas Abugu in Ekpan on August 18, 2022.

    Famous, according to the PPRO, claimed to have murdered Abugu “because he took over the position of quarter chairman from him when he was in prison, and he could not get back his position when he returned, hence his decision to kill Douglas.”

    The dreaded criminal also confessed to killing a youth known as small doctor on the 22nd of August in Ekpan.

    However, the two culprits reportedly gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital due to injuries suffered from gun shot.

     

     

  • IGP calls on operatives to embrace holistic intelligence gathering

    The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Usman Baba has called on police operatives to embrace holistic and effective intelligence gathering in the prevention of crime and criminal activities in the country.

    The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this in a statement in Abuja.

    Baba said preventive policing was important because it prevented the occurrence of crime, engendered peace and ensured the provision of optimal policing services to the citizenry.

    The I-G said his administration would not relent in fighting crimes, criminality, and a general state of insecurity to a standstill in Nigeria.

    The I-G commended the Police Command in Oyo State and the Force Intelligence Bureau Intelligence Response Squad (FIB-IRT) for their recent successes in crime-fighting.

    He said the operatives recorded the successes through the deployment of technologically advanced assets, community-based and traditional policing methods and improved police visibility.

    Baba said the achievements were recorded via identification, trailing and arrest of criminal suspects through actionable technical and human intelligence.

    He said the intelligence led to the arrest of six members of a notorious bank robbery gang after concluding plans to execute a bloody bank robbery attack on a new generation bank within the Ibadan metropolis in Oyo State.

    The I-G said the FIB-IRT had also arrested five members of a fraud syndicate specialised in hacking into bank accounts of individuals and corporate bodies to steal monies.

    According to him, the suspects got apprehended while attempting to hack into a company’s account and steal the sum of N3.4 billion.
