    Imo: Gunmen set ablaze Police Station, kill officer, injure DPO

    In a resurgence of violence in Imo state, unknown gunmen on Tuesday invaded and set ablaze the Arondizuogu divisional police headquarters in Ideato Local Government Area of the state.

    The gunmen reportedly killed a police officer and injured the Divisional Police Officer of the station.

    It was learnt that the assailants struck at about 2 am on Tuesday.

     

    The Imo police spokesman, Michael Abattam, confirmed the attack and noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hussaini, had ordered investigation into the incident and was on his way to access the damage done.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the attack came barely 24 hours after some gunmen allegedly killed a soldier during a shootout with Nigerian troops at Awo Mmamma in Oru East Local Government Area of the state.

    Unknown gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have razed down a police station at Arondizuogu in Ideato Local Government Area of Imo State.

    TheNewsGuru learned that the incident, which started on Tuesday morning, led to the demise of a police officer.

    The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Michael Abattam, confirmed the attack to newsmen but was unable to give details.

    Some yet to be identified gunmen have attacked another police station in Ebonyi State leaving three policemen dead.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the attack happened on Sunday morning at the Police Divisional headquarters at Unwana, Afikpo North local government area of the State.

    The gunmen were said to have attacked the Division around 2am and killed one Police constable and two Inspectors.

    A source from the area noted that the gunmen wore masks.

    The source also said one of the gunmen was killed by the police who repelled the attack.

    He said: “They killed three policemen – one constable and two inspectors and the police killed one of the gunmen.

    “Nobody knows the identity of the gunman and police have taken the remains away.

    “The incident happened around 2am, nobody knows the route they came from, all we hard were gunshots for about 10 minutes.

    “At the moment there is no information to know if they destroyed or stole anything from the police station.

    “The men were masked but the one killed had his face unveiled by the police to ascertain his identity. He also had red cloth tied around his waist believing it was a charm.”

    Police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, could not be reached for confirmation or otherwise of the incident as at the time of this report.

    Five killed in fresh attacks on Imo Police Station

    Two policemen and three gunmen lost their lives on Friday when a group of armed men attacked a police station Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Michael Abattam, confirmed the incident and casualty figure in a statement on Saturday, one week after another police station in the state was attacked and set ablaze.

    Abattam, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), identified the assailants, who swooped on the station around 2:45 am, as “armed bandits suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra)/ESN (Easter Security Network) terror group”.

    The attackers, he said, “came in their numbers to attack Izombe Police Station but could not gain access to the station due to the swift response of the ever-alert Imo Command’s tactical teams and personnel of Operation Restore Peace of the Command who intercepted and repelled the bandits”.

    After a gun battle, the police were able to repel the attackers.

    “They (the assailants) fled into the bush and in the process three of the bandits were neutralised … while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds,” Abattam said.

    “Unfortunately, the command lost two of its gallant officers in the attack. Their arms – one pump action gun with two rounds of live cartridges, and one locally made double barrel pistol with two expended cartridges, were recovered from them to the station.”

    The tactical teams, according to Abattam, are already in pursuit of the fleeing gunmen and combing the bush with a view to bringing them to justice.

    As the police pursue to attackers, he called on the people of Imo, especially the residents of Izombe community where the station is located, to assist the police with credible information that would lead to the arrest of the assailants.

    The command’s spokesman urged residents to notify the police immediately they see anyone with bullet wounds.

    He also asked hospitals in the area to report anyone who seeks treatment of bullet wounds to the police.

    Friday’s incident followed the attack on a police station in Orsu Local Government Area of the state.

    Although the police said the attack was also repelled, they confirmed the death of an inspector and three assailants in the incident which occurred on Thursday last week.

    Gunmen on Monday reportedly attacked Nnewi Police Area Command, Anambra State, carting away some arms.

    The incident, which witnessed heavy shootings between the gunmen and Police, caused pandemonium amongst residents of the industrial city.

    According to reports, the gunmen, who stormed the area around noon with seven vehicles, engaged the Police in a gun duel that last for one hour.

    An eyewitness said the gunmen overpowered the police and carted away with their arms.

    He however said no casualty was recorded in the incident.

    “Even though reinforcement from the Navy arrived the scene shortly after, the gunmen had left before their arrival. Efforts to pursue them were unsuccessful,” he added.

    Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said he was yet to receive the report.

    Some daredevil robbers on Wednesday had a field day attacking commercial banks and police station in Osun State.

    According to reports, the robbery incident which left five persons dead happened at Ikire and Apomu, Irewole and Isokan local government areas of the state.

    It was gathered that the armed robbers had earlier robbed a bank in Apomu town around 5:00 p.m. before proceeding to Ikire where they killed three persons at a commercial bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

    Two other persons were said the have been killed in the community during the sporadic shooting.

    The police spokesperson in the state, Yemisi Opalola, while confirming the incident said she cannot confirm the casualty figure, but the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, is already at the scene of the incident.

    The police spokesperson was also unable to establish how much the robbers carted away in the separate attacks on commercial banks in the state.

    A resident of Ikire, who witnessed the robbery from a distance said: “The robbers came into the community around 5:55 p.m. and were shooting. I don’t know maybe they were able to enter the bank and cart away money but I am sure that some persons were killed.”

    Gunmen attack another police station in Delta, kill three officers

    Three officers have been killed in an attack on the Umutu Police Divisional Headquarters in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.

    The Acting Public Police Relations Officer Bright Edafe confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

    Edafe noted that the incident started at about 2.am when armed men in their numbers stormed the Umutu police formation, shooting sporadically at the station.

    While explaining that the attack was repelled by men of the command, the police spokesman noted that “unfortunately, two policemen were gunned down in the attack while one other is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital”.

    “The Commissioner of police is assuring members of the public that every measure has been put in place to arrest those responsible for this act, and also urges members of the public to help with useful and timely information,” the statement added.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Friday’s attack is the second assault on a police formation in the oil-rich state in less than two weeks.

    Recall that gunmen had on May 16th stormed the Nsukwa Divisional Police Station in Aniocha South Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, setting some vehicles belonging to the security outfit on fire.

    The attackers invaded the police station in the early hours of the day with three officers feared dead.

    DELTA POLICE COMMAND REPELS ATTACK ON UMUTU POICE STATION

    In the early hours of today 28th may 2021 at about 0130 hours, armed men in their numbers stormed Umutu police station, they shot sporadically at the station, but due to proactive measure already put in place by the Delta state commissioner of police, they were faced with stiff resistance by the men on duty, as the policemen on duty gave them a tough fight.

    The armed men had to retreat when they saw that the policemen on duty were not relenting, two of the armed bandit were gun down while others injured.

    They had to take a retreat, they quickly carried their dead and ran away. The Command lost two policemen, while one ASP died out of High Blood pressure in the hospital.

    The armed bandit who came with the intention of causing mayhem and burning down the station and carting away arm did not succeed, as they could not penetrate the station, no arm loss, the station was not burnt, normalcy has been restored.

    The Commissioner of police is assuring members of the public that every measure has been put in place to arrest those responsible for this act, and also urges members of the public to help with useful and timely information.

    Again, unknown gunmen demolish police station in Abia

    The Apumiri Ubakala Police Station in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State has been attacked by unknown gunmen in the early hours of Monday, May 17, 2021.

    It was gathered that the thugs attacked the facility around 2am.

    No causality has been recorded as the state Police Command had yet to react to the incident.

    TheNewsGuru recalls that two police stations in the state were razed down by gunmen last week.

    Also, the Independent National Electoral Commission and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency offices located at Amaekpu Ohafia were also attacked by unknown gunmen between Monday and Tuesday last week.

    Gunmen attack two police stations in Akwa Ibom, kill officer

    One police officer, Edogi Bassey, has been killed in the early hours of Wednesday as gunmen attacked two police stations in Akwa Ibom State.

    The officer was killed after the gunmen around 6.30 am attacked Etim Ekpo Area Command and Division.

    A portion of the police station was also razed by the gunmen.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Odiko MacDon confirmed the in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

    “At about 6:30 a.m. today, armed men, in their numbers, armed with AK 47 Rifles and other dangerous weapons, in two vehicles attacked the rented building housing the Etim Ekpo Area Command and Division.

    “The undaunted and vigilant Police Officers on duty gallantly fought back, repelled them, and averted the intended carnage.

    Unfortunately, a dedicated Officer, one PC Edogi Bassey paid the supreme price while a small portion of the building was touched,” MacDon said.

    He added that the gunmen also attacked Ika Division but were successfully repelled by the officers, “without loss of lives or arms.

    The police spokesperson however lamented over the “unacceptable worrisome trend” of incessant attacks on police facilities and officers.

    He assured that Police authorities are working to nip the ugly trend in its bud.

    “The Commissioner of Police, CP Amiengheme Andrew who is going round formations and Divisions to ensure alertness and safety of officers, men, and the people has called on law-abiding citizens to volunteer timely information that will enable the Police to tackle the present security challenges”, he said.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that there has been a spate of attacks on security agencies in the South-east and South-south which has compounded the security challenges in the two regions.

    Last week, five police officers including the wife of an officer were killed by gunmen during an attack on Divisional Police Headquarters, Odoro Ikpe in Ini Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State.

    Also in April, two police officers were killed and a vehicle attached to the division burnt down during an attack on Ika Divisional Headquarters vicinity.

    Information reaching TheNewsGuru.com, TNG on Saturday has it that daredevil gunmen again launched fresh attacks on police officers and facilities in Akwa Ibom State.

    TNG gathered that this time the gunmen took the attacks to a police station in Ini Local Government Area, a border area with Abia State killing eight officers on duty.

    The ruthless assailants also killed an unidentified woman during the attacks.

    TNG reports that the attacks on public facilities particularly police stations in the state has intensified in the last one month.

    On Sunday, May 2nd, hoodlums attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state and also set the building ablaze.

    On Saturday, May 1, unknown gunmen invaded the Ikono Police Divisional Headquarters at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo around 3 am, killing no fewer than two policemen on duty.

    They also burnt down five police vehicles and injured a policewoman on night duty.

    The daredevil gunmen also struck on Wednesday, April 28 killing two policemen manning a checkpoint at Urua Inyang, headquarters of Ika local government area of the state.

    Inimfon Silas, a journalist and chairman of the Federated Chapel of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), who hails from the area, said: “the armed hoodlums on several motorcycles, stormed the checkpoint and shot the two officers dead, while others fled, leaving the hoodlums to seize their riffles and set their patrol van ablaze.”

    Meanhwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command is yet to confirm the latest attack.
