    Tragic! Policeman commits suicide in Lagos prison

    A certain policeman, known as Eze, has allegedly hanged himself in a cell at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

    The cop, who was attached to a Dangote factory, was detained after he allegedly shot dead a man.

    “He was brought to the state CID for investigation and prosecution.

    “But he hanged himself in the cell around 2am today. He was attached to the Dangote factory and shot a man dead,” a reliable source said.

    Suspected armed men have attacked, matcheted and injured some Policemen and carted away their arms in Asaba, the Capital of Delta State, Nigeria.

    The Policemen were said to be on “Routine stop and search duty” when the incident occurred on Friday, January 10.

    The armed men who had laid an ambush in the area inflicted serious injuries on the Policemen before carting away their rifles.

    It was learnt that the injured Policemen are being treated in an undisclosed hospital.

    The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Hafiz Inuwa confirmed the report in a chat with journalists in Warri.

    CP Inuwa said,”An incident was reported about two Policemen who were matcheted by armed men. It was on Friday the incident occurred.

    “They(armed men) also carted away arms but we are doing everything possible to recover the arms as well as to arrest the suspects. “

  • Policeman kills two, injures seven at burial ceremony

    Two persons were reportedly killed and about seven others severely injured in a case of ‘accidental discharge’ by an officer of the Nigerian Police Force.

    The incident, which happened at the burial ceremony of the late mother of the traditional ruler of Umuakoli Urualla in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, HRH Eze Martin Aladi, penultimate weekend, reportedly recorded multiple casualties.

    The policeman who was not immediately identified was said to be an orderly of one of the prominent indigenes of the town, Mr. Remy Chris Nwagbo.

    It was gathered that the incident happened when members of the Ideato Committee of Friends went to the king’s Chambers to pay him a condolence visit.

    According to community sources, members of the group were leaving the king’s chambers when they saw Nwagbo, who is also a member of Ideato Committee of Friends, and decided to accompany him to pay his own visit to the Eze.

    “Before they made to move, they stayed to exchange pleasantries as members of the club. It was then that a police orderly guarding Remy Chris tried to give them some gun salutes.

    “As he made to lift the gun up, it opened fire, destroying the jaws of the man exchanging greetings with Chris as well as injuring about seven other persons waiting to greet Remy Chris”, one of the sources told our correspondent.

    The source added that the last person the bullet touched died instantly because the bullet blew his brains to smatterings while the other person was confirmed dead in the hospital.

    The spokesman of the state police command, Orlando Ikeoku simply responded ‘Get back to you please’ to a text message sent to him by our correspondent.

    However, as of the time of filing this report, he did not get back as promised neither did the state commissioner of police, Rabiu Ladodo answer calls and messages sent to his phone.

  • Gunmen kill policeman, abduct two Chinese nationals in Edo

    Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted two Chinese working at a Glass and Aluminium company at Utese village, Ikpoba-Okha local government area.
    A police personnel attached to the Chinese workers was killed during the operation.
    Witnesses said the incident happened on Wednesday evening after close of work.
    The victims were on their way home when the gunmen blocked their vehicle and abduct them after killing the security office attached to them.
    According to a source: “As soon as the victims came out of the company, the gunmen who apparently have been waiting for them, started trailing them.”
    Edo State Commissioner of Police, DanMallam Muhammed, confirmed the incident and assured that the perpetrators would be apprehended.
    “Yes, the incident was reported to us yesterday. We are working hard to rescue them from the kidnappers”, he said.

  • Gunmen abduct policeman, others in Edo

    A police officer simply identified as DSP Godwin and four other persons have been abducted by gunmen at Ubiaja, headquarters of Esan South East local government area.

    DSP Godwin was travelling to Asaba when the vehicle he was travelling in was stopped by the gunmen who were on the road apparently for kidnapping.

    Police sources said DSP Godwin and others were taken into the bush.

    The source said a Pastor who was travelling along the same route was shot and is receiving treatment in a hospital.

    It was gathered that the police have mobilised tactical team to forest reserves around the Ewatto, Ubiaja, Okhuessan with the view to rescuing their colleague.

    Edo Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident and said good news would soon emerge from the tactical team work in the forest.

    He added the Command is doing something to locate the tactical team at Ubiaja division.

     

  • Mobile policeman rapes ATM user at gun point

    A mobile policeman in Anambra has been detained for allegedly defiling a 35-year-old lady in the premises of one of the new generation banks.

    The victim (name withheld) was said to have gone to make some transactions at the bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in the night when the incident occurred.

    Confirming the report, Commissioner of police, Rabiu Ladodo, said the command was still investigating the matter.

    He said the command would make the report public after investigation being handled by the state Criminal investigation Department CID, Awka

    The Nation gathered that the suspect, employed as a security guard to the bank, had approached the victim, demanding to have sexual intercourse with her.

    An employee of the bank, who pleaded anonymity, said the victim had initially refused the request until she was threatened with a gun by the suspect.

    According to the source: “With her life threatened, and nobody around to rescue her, she submitted and he had his way”

    The source further revealed that the victim stormed the bank the following day with some policemen who arrested the suspect.

    Ladodo said: “Soon after the police received complaint of the alleged rape from the victim, operatives were dispatched and the suspect was quickly arrested and placed under detention.”

    But he said that preliminary investigation was yet to establish whether the victim was raped during the incident.

    Ladodo however assured that the suspect would face necessary punishment if found guilty.

  • Bandits kill policeman, abduct four in Zamfara

    A group of unidentified bandits attacked a mining site on Wednesday in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara, killing one of the six mobile policemen on guard and abducting the others.

    Speaking to journalists on phone, one of the eye witnesses to the attack, Salisu Lawali, said the bandits invaded the site situated in Sunke village after sporadic gun shots, disarmed the policemen, killing one of them in the process.

    He explained that the gunmen abducted the policemen to an unknown destination and released them the following day without their guns.

    Lawali said: “I don’t think there was any negotiation, because the abducted policemen just returned to the site unhurt, the only thing missing were their guns which they said were in the custody of their abductors,” he said.

    Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Anka local government area, Alhaji Mustapha Gado, said the policemen were deployed to man the site.

    He said that the abductees were released after some hours.

    “The Divisional Police officer of the local government told me that the officers were released but their rifles were still in the custody of the bandits.

    “We have earlier ordered for the closure of all the goldmines, but the foreign expatriates can still be found because their machineries are stationed at the sites.

    “We consulted the relevant authorities on the need to close down the sites and we got approval, we served them with quit notice but those operating the sites sourced for security operatives to man the sites for them,” he added.

    Meanwhile, the Police Command in the state could not be reached for comments on the matter.

  • Gunmen kill policeman in Edo

    Edo police command says a police orderly attached to Dr Eric Osayande, Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state, has been killed by unknown gunmen.

    The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosun, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.

    Odumosun said he had visited family of the slain policeman, adding that efforts were on to arrest the killers.

    The slain policeman identified as Oisa Ehigie, was allegedly shot dead on Saturday night at Nomayo Junction, along Upper Sokponba road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

     

  • Court remands eight men for ‘beheading’ policeman

    High Court in Plateau on Wednesday ordered that eight men accused by the Police of beheading a policemen be remanded.

    Abubakar Sani, Abubakar Mohammed, Hussaini Musa, Mohammed Zubairu, Abdulahi Mohammed, Ibrahim Usman, Mohammed Doma and Sadiq Abubakar were charged with culpable homicide of Sgt. Yunana Ishaya.

    According to the prosecutor, E.A. Inigbenoise, it was said that the men committed the offence on September 1.

    Inigbenoise said the accused persons attacked the Sgt. with an axe around Gordons Hotel, Zaria Road, Farin Gada, Jos North and beheaded him.

    He said that charms, which the accused persons believed would make them disappear at will, were found on them at the time of their arrest.

    However, the accused persons, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    Trial judge, Justice A.I. Ashoms, ordered that they be remanded and adjourned the matter to December 14 for hearing.

  • Pandemonium as ‘100 gunmen’ attack Zamfara community; kill policeman, others

    At least six persons including a police corporal were on Friday killed by gunmen in Gurbin Bore village, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the News Agency of Nigeria has reported.
     
    The state police spokesperson, Mohammed Shehu, said the community was attacked at about 10 pm by assailants numbering about 100.
     
    It was not immediately clear why the village was targeted.
     
    Zamfara, located in Nigeria’s north west, has been hit by several deadly attacks in the last one year by people described by authorities as “bandits”, who also steal livestock.
     
    The police spokesman said three people were severely wounded in Friday’s attack.
     
    “Eleven vehicles including a police vehicle, three motorcycles and five kiosks were set ablaze by the hoodlums,” he said.
     
    Mr Shehu said the “bandits” who were suspected to have come from Dumburum forest were engaged by a combined team of counterterrorism operatives, comprising police Mobile Force, and Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) personnel stationed in the area.
     
    He said the attackers were being trailed and would be arrested and brought to justice.
     
    The vice chairman of Zurmi Local Government Council, Abubakar Dauran, told journalists that 13 shops and 15 vehicles were burnt.
