  • 500 Clerics kick- off 21 days prayer for Nigeria’s unity against destabilization

500 Clerics kick- off 21 days prayer for Nigeria’s unity against destabilization

The clerics drawn from various churches across the country said with the present situation of things in the country, prayers and fasting is urgently needed to salvage the Nation.

Led by Bishop Sunday Garuba, the President of the National Interfaith and religious organization for peace, NIFROP, he said the prayer session that will end on the 15th of February will afford the clerics to intercede so that Nigeria can be healed.

Speaking from the second book of Chronicles 7:14 (New International Version) which declares that “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Garuba said, “We have come to that point when we can no longer persist in our division and way of life that rend us asunder contrary to God’s will.

“We can no longer continue to posture that all is well when it is clear that God wants us to repent of the sins we commit against ourselves and the glorious land that the Lord has provided for us in Nigeria.

The Cleric said NIFROP have made Agape its creed, doing onto others as the Lord ordained irrespective of sectarian variations.

He said this is done to the extent that compatriots call upon God in their own understanding in a manner that does not violate the tenets of true worship as revealed by the spirit.

He added that there is no basis to go to war with a fellow human over theological divergence.

Continuing he said, “it is for this very reason that prayers offered by NIFROP are answered when we continue to hear from God each time we gather to seek understanding through supplications. We had prayed in the past and God exposed the sponsors of the herdsmen/farmers crisis.

“We had also prayed in the past and God humbled the Boko Haram terrorists since President Muhammadu Buhari came on board. God brought President Buhari on board after the prayers of this group to redeem Nigeria and the many blessings. These terrorists had thumped their nose at God in their ignorance but they were put to shame because they never knew that President Buhari was coming as God’s right hand against their evil intentions.

He said not to be forgotten are those that had kept Nigeria backwards by stealing our commonwealth.

“They pushed God’s people to the wall to the extent that we had to again resort to prayers until God exposed all these looters since President Buhari came on board as a servant of God.

“Our perseverance and persistence in prayers has been of help in warding off the sustained evil and demonic attacks which has made the devil to continue to fail in all his machinations against our nation, Nigeria. Brethren I can tell you that all these are the reason why the devil is out to destabilize this nation. They do not want to see anything good in the country”he added

The Man of God implored brethren not to allow these evil ones regroup after God has given the nation victory over them. It is for this reason that Nigerians, irrespective of faith, must rise up in prayers for the unity of the country. The intention of these demons is to turn our land into their own killing field but our intercessions to God has not allowed them to prevail over us. Rather, we shall eternally triumph over them.

Garuba said their latest strategy of using terrorists to attack Christians is meant to provoke believers in Christ Jesus to forsake their faith and become vengeful in contravention of the Lord’s charge that we should not embark on vengeance. They want to make us lose the grace of the Lord that abounds in our life.

“Their expectations are that Christians will launch reprisals against Moslems and shed blood for their demons to drink. But the wisdom of the Lord that profited and the spirit of discerning have laid bare their plot to us such that no one fell into the snare they had set out for us.

Brethren, knowing the powers of prayers, we exhort you all to again resort to prayers in asking God to ward off these latest rounds of spiritual and terrorists’ attacks directed at tormenting God’s elected. We shall again triumph and have cause to sing songs of thanksgiving onto the Lord”he said

They were various prayer session, song rendition at the flag off ceremony.

  • Obaseki, Oshiomhole feud: Oba of Benin calls for fasting, prayers

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has urged traditional rulers in the state to fast and pray for peace ahead of the Edo governorship election in 2020.

The Oba gave the charge at the quarterly meeting of Edo Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs in Benin on Saturday.

The monarch said the prayers and fasting should go along with offering of sacrifice to God and the ancestors.

Ewuare, who is the chairman of the council, said that the call for prayers became necessary in view of the current political crisis in the state, a situation, which he stressed had “become a serious concern to everyone”.

The Oba said that he was sure that the state would be peaceful in spite of the current face-off among the political gladiators.

He reiterated the need for traditional rulers to continually maintain absolute neutrality as fathers to all.

“And as royal fathers we must act within the ambit of the law,” he said.

Oba Ewuare further urged the traditional rulers and chiefs not to allow labours of the founding fathers of their traditional heritage to be in vain.

Impeachment: Say a prayer for me, Trump begs Americans

United States of America President Donald Trump took to Twitter to ask his millions of followers to say a prayer, as the House of Representatives moves to impeach a president making it the third time in the country’s history.

On his Twitter page, he wrote: “Can you believe that I will be impeached today by the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats, AND I DID NOTHING WRONG! A terrible Thing. Read the Transcripts. This should never happen to another President again. Say a PRAYER!” Trump posted.

If the articles of impeachment are approved, as expected, Trump would become the third U.S. president to be impeached.

The president was also rapidly retweeting supporters in the conservative media and quoted a leading Republican in Congress who denounced the impeachment process and slammed Trump’s opponents as people who “all they had was never to let him have an easy breath.”

Similarly, Trump is “frustrated” by the impeachment process against him, White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told Fox News.

“He’s frustrated, as evidenced by the letter yesterday,” she said, referring to a seething six-page letter sent by Trump to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in which he accused his opponents of waging open war and seeking to overthrow democracy. At the end of the day he did nothing wrong,” she said.

She insisted he remained “focused” on his job as president.

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on Wednesday to impeach Trump for obstruction of Congress and abuse of power related to his dealings with Ukraine.

  • The prayer of faith – Femi Aribisala

    By Femi Aribisala

Jesus says: “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

But can we pray without Jesus? Certainly not! Prayer is only acceptable in the name of Jesus. Moreover, when we want to pray, the host of spiritual wickedness in the heavenlies is determined that we should not. Therefore, we fall asleep, are distracted and “buy and sell.”

    Offensive prayers

When we offend God, we cannot even pray. The sky over our head become bronze, and the earth beneath us iron. (Deuteronomy 28:23). Our vitality is turned into the drought of summer. (Psalm 32:4).

Therefore, we are desperately in need of God’s help even in order to pray to God. The psalmist confirms this. He tells God: “Quicken us, and we will call upon your name.” (Psalm 80:18). This means before we pray for anything, we need to pray first for the grace to be able to pray. Otherwise, our prayers become a waste of time.

As a matter of fact, our prayers easily become offensive to God. This is what happened to Israel. As a result, the psalmist pleaded: “Lord God All-Powerful, how much longer will the prayers of your people make you angry?” (Psalm 80:4).

For this reason, the disciples came to Jesus with a simple petition: “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:1). They did not ask him to teach them how to pray. Prayer is simply talking to God. They asked him to teach them to pray. This is because, as with everything else, the grace to pray comes from God.

Many do not know that the acceptable prayer is always according to the will of God. Therefore, Jesus answered the prayer of some disciples by saying: “You do not know what you ask.” (Matthew 20:22). Paul also observes that: “We do not know what we ought to pray for.” (Romans 8:26). Therefore, before we can pray, we need to ask the Alpha and Omega to give us the grace to pray and to direct our prayers aright.

    Healing prayers

How does this relate to healing?

When the disciples of Jesus could not cast out a dumb and deaf spirit, he rebuked them, saying: “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.” (Mark 9:19). When they asked him later why they were unable to cast out the demon, he tells them that type of demon does not go except through prayer.

However, prayer by itself does not heal. Certainly, the prayer of a faithless generation is ineffectual. What heals then? It is faith in God that heals: “The prayer of faith will save the sick.” (James 5:15).

Jesus emphasized this again and again. When a woman with an issue of blood touched his garment, believing she would be healed by so doing, Jesus pointed out to her that her healing did not come from his garment. He said to her: “‘Daughter; your faith has made you well.’ And the woman was made well from that hour.” (Matthew 9:22).

    .

It is our faith that heals. As a matter of fact, if you have faith, you don’t have to pray for healing. You simply decree a healing and the healing is established. (Job 22:28).

Jesus says: “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:22-24).

    Gift of faith

So, the critical issue is faith. How do we get it? Faith comes from God. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17). Jesus is the author of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2). When some Jews asked him: “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” he told them: “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he sent.” (John 6:28-29).

But we cannot just decide to have faith and then get it. Faith is not of works. It is, first and foremost, a gift of God. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8).

Therefore, we need to ask God for faith and pray earnestly for it: “Ask, and it will be given to you.” (Matthew 7:7). We must come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to have faith in God. (Hebrews 4:16). When we do this, God gives us individually “a measure of faith” required to fulfill our petition. (Romans 12:3).

If you want the faith to fight cancer, he will give you the faith to fight cancer. If you want the faith to fight a headache, he will give you the faith to fight a headache. The faith to fight a headache is not the faith to fight cancer. The faith to move a car is not the faith to move a mountain.

    Prayer of faith

So, let us go back to the earlier question we started with. Why could the disciples not cast out the dumb and deaf spirit? They could not because they did not have the faith to cast it out. They did not have the faith because they did not ask for the grace to have it. They did not pray for the faith.

James explains this common predicament: “You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss.” (James 4:2-3). But he notes that to those who ask aright, God gives “more grace.” (James 4:6).

How do we ask amiss? With regard to healing, we ask amiss because we ask for healing instead of asking for more grace and for more faith. If you have faith, you will be healed by decree. If you don’t have faith, you won’t be healed. According to your faith, so will it be unto you.

For those who have been paying attention, Jesus emphasized this again and again. When two blind men asked him for healing, he asked if they have faith. When they answered in the affirmative, he opened their eyes by saying: “According to your faith let it be to you.” (Matthew 9:29). When blind Bartimaeus came to him for healing, he healed him by saying: “Your faith has made you well.” (Mark 10:52).

Therefore, it is imperative for us to keep coming to the throne of grace to receive more grace and more faith to deal with the vagaries of life. When the disciples understood this, they said to Jesus: “Increase our faith.” He replied: “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” (Luke 17:5-6).

  • 2019: CAN declares nationwide three-day prayer programme

The leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Tuesday declared a three-day prayer to be observed in all churches.

  • Court grants EFCC’s prayer, to continue Metuh’s trial in his absence

…Summons Channels TV reporter, General Manager

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that the criminal trial of a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, will henceforth proceed in his absence.

Justice Okon Abang, in a ruling on Wednesday, said the court was entitled to proceed with the trial in Metuh’s absence, considering the defendant’s previous several attempts to frustrate the trial and the way he allegedly conducted himself after he fell down in court on Monday.

Recall that the EFCC had prayed the court on Tuesday to continue the trial in Metuh’s absence.

The judge ruled, “The application by prosecution deserves to succeed.

“The trial shall proceed in the absence of the defendant. See Section 266(a) and section 352(4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.”

The court also summoned the General Manager of the Channels Television in Abuja and a presenter with the television, Mrs. Maupe Ogun-Yusuf, to appear before the court on May 25.

The judge said the television’s officials were being summoned in respect of the prosecution’s allegation that the television aired prejudicial statements allegedly made by a lawyer in Metuh’s defence team, Mr. Ben Chuks Nwosu, during the medium’s Tuesday’s edition of Sunrise Daily.

Metuh fell down as he was making his way to the dock on Monday.

He was later taken away in the court’s ambulance and has since been absent from court during both the Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s proceedings.

But Justice Abang held on Wednesday that Metuh deliberately fell down on Monday.

The judge noted that Metuh chose to deliberately ignore the lawful directive of the court instructing him to remain seated and not to go into the dock.

He said Metuh chose to move towards the dock and then fell down.

He said Metuh went on to disturb proceedings by whimpering and groaning loudly “to give the impression that he was in pains” and made the court to look like an accident scene.

  • Christians rise up in prayer for abducted Dapchi girl who refuses to renounce Christianity

The Christian world in Nigeria has risen up in prayer for Liya Shuaibu, one of the 110 girls of Federal Government Science and Technical College, Dapchi, who was kidnapped by the terrorist group, Boko Haram, but was not released along with the 104 girls who were released by the group, yesterday, allegedly because she refused to renounce Christianity and convert to Islam.

According to the girl’s father, Nata Sharibu, who spoke on Raypower FM radio, he was informed that his daughter was not released along with the 104 girls whose release set Dapchi and indeed the entire country agog in joy, yesterday, because she refused to renounce her faith and convert to Islam.

Sharibu, said even though he is sad his daughter, though still alive, was not among those released, he was still very happy that she did not denounce Christ even at the risk of her life. “They gave her the option of converting in order to be released but she said she will never become a Muslim”, she was quoted as saying. “I am very sad but I am also jubilating too because my daughter did not denounce,” Sharibu said enthusiastically.

His call for Christians to rise up in prayer for his daughter’s safe return has been taken up by several Christian groups who have been sending WhatsApp, text messages and emails to Christian groups and individuals to rise up in prayers for Liya Shuaibu.

The chain messages which have been circulating since last night urge Christians to rise up in fervent prayers for the exemplary Christian girl who refuses to renounce Christ and Christianity.

“Pray for Liya Sharibu, the Dapchi girl who Boko Haram has refused to release because she refuses to renounce Christ and convert to Islam”, one of the messages said, while asking them to “Pray for her safe return. Pray for her to remain strong in her faith. Pray that God will stamp out the terrorist group”, some others urged.

Others said “People of God, please let us raise prayer for Liya Sharibu that the hand of the Lord will be upon her, that the Lord should deliver her from the den of lions den and bring her safely without being molested. Please let us arise and pray for this girl. If you are a true Christian, send this message to other Christians and dedicate at least three minutes to pray for this girl till she is released.”

Of the 110 students who were kidnaped on February 19, 104 of them were released and brought to Dapchi by the terrorists yesterday, while five of them were said to have died in circumstances yet to be known.

Only Liya Sharibu, remains unaccounted for though some of the released girls told the father she was alive but remained in captivity because of her refusal to renounce Christ and convert to Islam.

  • Pope Francis declares Feb 23 world fasting, praying day

Pope Francis has invited Roman Catholics, all Christians and members of other religions to observe Feb. 23 as a day of prayer, fasting and initiatives for peace.

Francis while addressing tens of thousands of people in St. Peter’s Square for his weekly blessing, on Sunday urged everyone to ‘say no’ to violence and conflict.

According to him, the appeal is because of the “tragic prolonging” of conflicts around the world.

Feb. 23 is a Friday in the first full week of the Christian season of Lent, during which fasting from food and extra acts of charity are encouraged as a sign of penitence.

He said “everyone, in their own consciences, before God, should ask ‘what can I do for peace?’”

Surely, we can pray but not only: each one of us can say ‘no’ to violence in their own way, because victories obtained through violence are false victories while working for peace benefits all,” he said.

He specifically invited non-Catholics and non-Christians to join the initiative in any way they saw fit, “but altogether”.

Francis said the prayers and fasting should be offered in a particular way for the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.

South Sudan has been hit by a prolonged civil war and humanitarian crisis. The Democratic Republic of Congo has been hit by unrest this month following the shooting of protesting pro-democracy churchgoers opposed to President Joseph Kabila.
