Jurgen Klopp lays out his retirement plan

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp doesn’t believe he’ll be working in management when he’s 70.

Currently 55 years old, the German is still some way of this number and cannot see himself still being involved in the game by the time he reaches this point in life.

Klopp, who joined the Reds in 2015, has opened up on why this is the case when speaking on Michael Calvin’s Football People Podcast.

“The job is incredibly demanding, it is, but it’s great as well,” he said. “That’s why I say when Roy Hodgson came back again to Crystal Palace and I ask him ‘why go out again?’ and he said ‘I love it’.

“I cannot see myself being 70 and being on the dugout in whatever weather and training for one or two hours. I can’t see that but I understand a little bit where they are coming from. I hope then that other things are that interesting to me and I am really fine with not being involved anymore.”

Manchester United coach, Erik ten Hag, has named Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta as the best manager in the Premier League currently.

The Dutchman spoke before Manchester United’s Premier League 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday night.

“I think in the Premier League, there are many incredibly good coaches at the moment,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports.

“He [Mikel Arteta] is definitely one of them. What he is doing, he is the best in this moment because it is really a big performance, it is huge what he’s doing.

“He is managing his team and they are so consistent, the most consistent team in the Premier League at the moment, playing incredible football. It is fantastic.”

Antonio Conte finds positives in Man City defeat

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte admitted mixed feelings after their 4-2 defeat at Manchester City.

Spurs were 2-0 up at halftime before City, inspired by Riyad Mahrez, clicked into gear.

Conte later said, “We played a good game with personality. We put a lot of pressure on City and created problems for them. They are always really difficult to play, but I am disappointed too.

“I hate losing – especially when we scored the two goals first.

“We have to continue to work and have patience. We need to create something important with this team. We are ready to improve and grow from this game. That means we have to adapt. We have experience in our team so we need to use that.”

EPL: Our plan is to hurt Man City – Conte

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte says his team will have to hurt Manchester City tonight in their Premier League fixture.

Conte said he and the players must continue to work as hard as possible if they’re to take anything away from the Etihad.

“You know very well that we are facing, in my opinion, the best team in this moment and one of the best teams in the world,” said the Head Coach. “We are talking about a team that is full of top players and for this reason we have to perform, to over-perform, to try to get a good result.

“Last season the result was good but you know very well, when you play against City, you have to concede possession of the ball for a long part of the game and in the part that you have the ball, you have to try to hurt them. We are working very hard to do it.”

Offering his thoughts on City striker Erling Haaland, who has plundered a remarkable 27 goals in all competitions, Conte continued: “We are talking about a young player but at the same time, I think his status is an important status. He is showing to be a really strong player, he has scored over 20 goals – it’s incredible in your first season in the Premier League to score in this way. Yes, we have to pay attention (to him), but we have to pay attention to all of Manchester City’s players because we are talking, I repeat, about a really good team.”

Spurs face City again in the League on February 5.

“We have to play game by game,” Conte added. “For sure, they will be two difficult games because they are second in the table, usually they win the league, and also this season I think, with Arsenal, they are the two title contenders to win the Premier League. It won’t be easy, it’s normal, but at the same time it can also be a big push for my players to try to give everything to deliver a good result for our fans.”

EPL: “It’s my fault” – Pep Guardiola takes blame for Haaland

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says it is his fault for Erling Haaland’s poor run of form.

Haaland has hit an incredible 27 goals in all competitions since joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

But he has failed to score in his last three outings and Guardiola says the supply to the striker needs to improve.

“We have our game, we have our principles but the way we played in last two games didn’t help Erling to score,” Guardiola said.

“In the build-up you can be wider, but in the final third you have to have players in the middle. If Erling is not there we are not going to score goals.

“In the past we have always had incredible movements in the final third, in the small spaces. Now, in the last two games, we haven’t had it. I would say it was my fault. I didn’t make them understand the way we have to attack.

“We need runners, not just Erling. If we had just Erling he would be controlled by two or three central defenders. We need more players in those positions, definitely. We have done it. We have to do it more often.”

City host Tottenham on Thursday night.

Guardiola continued: “I prefer to be eight points in front but I like to handle this situation, I love it.

“I have to find something to make the team better. I’m the man responsible. When the players don’t play good, if they don’t have the desire to do it, it is because something is wrong in my decisions. We have to find it.

“People don’t think about the memories, how good we were. When I die people will talk about how good Pep was. That’s for sure.

“But since we are here, people expect us to perform well, win the games and try to find the way. Otherwise – Pep out.

“This is how our jobs work – and I want Pep in! I want to stay here, this is what I want, and for that we have to win games and be there in all the competitions.”

We have a lot of faith in Rashford – Fernandez

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has hailed in-form attacking teammate Marcus Rashford.

After scoring in victory over Manchester City, Rashford now has 16 goals and provided six assists in 26 competitive games this season.

Fernandes said, “He has always been unstoppable, but he didn’t get his goals, his rewards. He’s always been like this. The thing is, the ball is going in now, he’s getting his goals, he’s getting his rewards for the effort he’s put in for the team. Everyone is really happy for him, he deserves it.

“He is one of the best players in the world, without a doubt. Not just now, he was before too.

‘He will be even better in the future. We have a lot of faith in Rashy and he just has to keep his head down and work as he has been doing.”

Joao Felix sees red as Fulham defeat Chelsea

Joao Felix was sent off on his Chelsea debut as his new side lost a west London derby at Fulham to increase the pressure on Blues boss Graham Potter.

Joao Felix, who only joined Chelsea on Wednesday in a £9.7m loan deal until the end of the season from Atletico Madrid, was shown a straight red card for a horrible lunge on defender Kenny Tete after 58 minutes.

It was 1-1 at the time, with Willian putting the hosts ahead against his former side in the first half, before Kalidou Koulibaly equalised early in the second.

But the 10 men of Chelsea could not hang on to a point as Carlos Vinicius headed in a 72nd-minute winner.

Willian later said, “We deserved the win. We know how difficult it is to play against Chelsea. They are in a difficult moment but we are a really good team. We deserved it and we have to carry on.

“I had an amazing seven years at Chelsea. I have a big respect for the fans and the club. I play for Fulham now and have to do my best. It was a special night.”

  • It was a risk to axe Ronaldo – Ten Hag reveals

It was a risk to axe Ronaldo – Ten Hag reveals

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed dropping Cristiano Ronaldo was a “risk”.

However, he says the decision was to create a winning attitude and a winning culture.

Ronaldo eventually was released and signed for Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr last week.

“Maybe it was a risk but if you want to develop something, if you want to create a winning attitude and winning culture, you have to go this way,” said Ten Hag.

“Everyone will do it their own way. But if you allow them to be ill-disciplined, if you don’t match the standards, values and rules we set together as a team and as staff —and if you don’t have that togetherness in the dressing room — then it will come back and it will blow up in your face.

“‘On the pitch that will happen if you do not have the discipline needed to win games. It’s about big responsibility, so you have to go that way.”

  • Man Utd previous signings are average players – Ten Hag

Man Utd previous signings are average players – Ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says the club has suffered due to poor work in the transfer market.

Ten Hag knows arresting that wretched record in the transfer market is fundamental to turning the club’s fortunes around.

The Old Trafford boss told Voetbal International: “The club has bought an unimaginable number of players in recent years who have not been good enough.

“Most purchases have been average – and at United average is not good enough.

“United’s shirt weighs heavily. Only real personalities, who can perform under great pressure, can play here.

“We needed personalities. That’s why the acquisition of Casemiro was so important. Along with Raphael Varane, we now have a second player who has experience of winning titles.

“Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Antony are all fighters, while Christian Eriksen is a technical winner and a great personality.

“We want the best of the best. Any players we bring to Manchester United must meet the highest standard.”
