Amazon consider takeover bid for Man Utd

Tech and shopping giants Amazon have emerged as potential buyers for Manchester United.

The Red Devils are on the market, with the Glazer family officially stating they are open to selling the club.

The American owners are hoping to secure between £6 billion and £7 billion for United.

Per The Athletic, Amazon are a surprise option for committing to a United purchase.

The company does have a previous link to football, as they have a sleeve sponsorship deal with Napoli in Serie A.

Apple had been previously linked to the Red Devils, but those reports were rubbished, as the tech giant rarely acquires outside companies unless they hope to absorb them into their own business.

Man Utd market value jumps 70% since sale announcement

Manchester United’s market value has jumped by £1 billion in three days after the Glazer family announced the club was up for sale.

The Manchester Evening News says United’s stock market value has risen to $3.6billion (£2.98bn) following the announcement from the Glazer family that they are open to selling the club.

United’s shares have continued to rise all week following a statement from the club on Tuesday that the club was looking at ‘different strategic alternatives’ including the possibility of a full sale.

The shares, which are traded on the New York Stock Exchange, rose more than 17 percent to $22.05 (£18.22) in morning trading on Friday, meaning the stock is up almost 70 percent from its Monday closing price of $13.03 (£10.77) a share.

These recent stock gains have pushed the market value of United to more than $3.6 billion (£2.98bn), meaning that is likely to be the lowest amount the owners would consider selling for, though it is understood they will attract offers far above that and could seek as much as £5billion to sell.

Pep Guardiola extends contract at Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the reigning English Premier League (EPL) champions until 2025, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 51-year-old has guided Manchester City to four league titles, four League Cups and the FA Cup since taking over in 2016 and his deal was set to expire in the summer.

“I am delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City Football Club will continue,” club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak disclosed in a statement.

“He has already contributed so much to the success and fabric of this organisation, and it’s exciting to think what might be possible given the energy, hunger and ambition that he clearly still has.”

Guardiola’s current spell at Manchester City is his longest in charge of a single club since he began his managerial career in 2008.

“I am so pleased to be staying at Manchester City for another two years…,” Guardiola said.

“I know the next chapter of this club will be amazing for the next decade. It happened over the last 10 years, and it will happen in the next 10 years because this club is so stable.

“From day one I felt something special being here. I cannot be in a better place.”

The Spaniard managed boyhood club FC Barcelona from 2008 to 2012 and spent three years in charge of German giants Bayern Munich before joining Manchester City.

Manchester City are second in the league with 32 points from 14 matches, five points behind leaders Arsenal with the season paused for the World Cup in Qatar.

Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Premier League club Manchester United by mutual agreement with immediate effect following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

United issued a 67-word statement on Tuesday evening announcing they had reached a mutual agreement with the player to terminate his contract.

“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford,” said a Manchester United statement.

Ronaldo is with Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar and is set to captain them in their opening Group H game against Ghana on Thursday.

He had has just over seven months remaining on his £500,000-a-week contract with United and his departure leaves him free to sign for another club when the transfer window opens in January.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

After Man Utd trials, I thank God I joined Arsenal – Martinelli

Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has recalled being rejected by Manchester United as a teenager.

The Brazil international signed for the Gunners more than three years ago, but it could have been so different for the wide man.

He said: “I thank God that I came to Arsenal in 2019. I really believe that things happen for a reason and I’m so happy here.

“It’s funny to look back now, because I could so easily have ended up somewhere else.

“You see, I used to be part of this project at Manchester United. I was actually there for several trials. I even met many of the senior players.

“When I was 17, I had my last session there, so I went back to Brazil waiting for news.

“One day my dad called me into the living room. He had spoken to my agent and, well, ‘United had said no. Not just no, for this year… no, we don’t want him at all’.”

Man Utd explore sacking Ronaldo without payout

Manchester United are making legal moves to sack Cristiano Ronaldo without compensation for this week’s interview with Piers Morgan.

United have begun the legal process of effectively sacking Ronaldo by tearing up his £500,000-a-week contract without paying the Portugal star a penny of the £16million he would have earned until it expired in June, says the Daily Mail.

United’s lawyers are satisfied Ronaldo has breached the terms of his contract with his explosive allegations against the club, the Glazers, manager Erik ten Hag and his teammates.

The interview aired in two parts on Wednesday and Thursday following a slew of teaser clips since the weekend.

United said earlier in the week that they would consider their response once the full facts were established, and issued a statement on Friday.

It read: “Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview. We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion.”

United felt they had to offer some response in the face of Ronaldo’s claims but would not comment on what the process will involve.

Edu promoted to sporting director at Arsenal

Edu Gaspar has been named sporting director of Arsenal.

The former midfielder had previously been the club’s technical director, focusing on the men’s and women’s teams, but his responsibilities now extend to the academy.

This is the first time the Gunners have employed a sporting director and is also a promotion for Edu, who has been in contract talks with Arsenal for a number of weeks.

Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham said: “We are delighted that Edu is recommitting his future to the club that he so clearly loves, after making such a positive and critical contribution to our progress in his time with us so far.

“Edu’s promotion formalises his already growing influence over our academy operations, and we look forward to Per and Edu working together to strengthen the integration between our men’s first-team and academy yet further.”

Arsenal’s academy manager, Per Mertesacker, will remain in place and the plan is for him to work closely with Edu.

Man Utd take down Ronaldo’s poster at Old Trafford

Premier League club Manchester United have taken down a poster outside Old Trafford that featured Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portugal attacker’s future at the club is in serious jeopardy at present.

Ronaldo gave an unsanctioned interview to Piers Morgan, where he criticized the club, its leadership and owners, and manager Erik ten Hag.

Per the Daily Mail, a mural of Ronaldo was taken down at Old Trafford this week, marking a shift in United’s view of the player.

The Portuguese is likely to see his contract torn up by mutual consent after the World Cup.

However, it is unclear if Ronaldo would be willing to forego the salary he is due for the rest of the season.

  • Chelsea coach Potter gives excuse for Newcastle defeat

Chelsea coach Potter gives excuse for Newcastle defeat

Chelsea coach Graham Potter has given excuses for the Blues’ loss at Newcastle.

Chelsea lost 1-0 via a Joe Willock winner for Newcastle.

Potter said, “It was a tough game for us. Losing Ruben (Loftus-Cheek) and Aspi (Cesar Azpilicueta) at half-time. You can see in the two teams the different schedules. Newcastle have one game a week and we have a tough schedule. That showed. But there were also too many enforced errors. We got through a few times but we didn’t have enough quality.

“In a game of few chances, they got a winner. We changed things but we didn’t have enough. You could see in the first half they were pushing us back. We could not get out of the defensive third as much as we like. So we put on an extra man in the middle of the pitch. Conor had a good shot but then our defensive line was a bit off and we conceded a good finish.

“For different reasons, you have 13 matches in six weeks, a lot of those games away from home. It is what it is and it has been tough challenging. We have a break now and we need to re-energise. For us in terms of what we’ve had with an incredibly intense period, it is what it is. We need to take the positives. A lot of the boys will be away but we can get away, regroup and go again when we come back.”
