Top 5 players Chelsea must sign this transfer window

With the transfer window set to close, various clubs are taking drastic steps to offload players and sign new players, here’s a look at 5 players Chelsea could sign to bolster Thomas Tuchel’s side as the summer transfer deadline approaches.

    Denzel Dumfries

Since his debut for Inter Milan in 2021, Dumfries has made 35 league appearances for the Nerazzurri and has grown into one of the best full-backs in the Serie A.

His performances at Inter have proven that his skill set fits into Tuchel’s 3-at-the-back system.

His ability to make overlapping runs, his blistering pace, his strength, and aerial prowess make him a suitable candidate for a Chelsea move.

According to reports, Inter Milan will only entertain offers within the range of £29m to £33m to facilitate the departure of the Dutch right-back, but by the looks of things, Chelsea may just budge and cough out a transfer fee in that range in a bid to bolster their right-back options for this season.

    Wesley Fofana

Following his exemption from Leicester City’s match-day squad against Southampton on August 20, Fofana’s departure from Leicester appears imminent – in fact, as an explanation for his absence, Brendan Rogers reported that the young centre-back wasn’t in the right state of mind owing to bids from Chelsea.

Chelsea has ramped up their interest in the French centre-back and has had two bids rejected by Leicester City. However, Leicester City maintains its stance and will only release Fofana if Chelsea meets their record fee price tag.

While there are apprehensions as to whether the 21-year-old will be able to handle the pressure that comes with the price tag, he remains a top target for the London club.

Fofana is a long-term plan for Chelsea, with Thiago Silva struggling with fitness due to age constraints, and can also slot in as a replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta at right-centre-back.

    Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

With Tuchel sitting at the helm of transfers, a reunion is on the cards for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Thomas Tuchel. The 33-year-old striker was an integral peg in Thomas Tuchel’s Dortmund calvary.

The former Arsenal captain star has a good record playing for Thomas Tuchel, scoring 56 times in 63 appearances under the German gaffer.

Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku on loan and the consequential need for a striker, Chelsea has made inquiries about signing the Gabon star. Discussions between Chelsea and Barcelona have progressed, and the teams will soon reach an agreement to complete the transfer.

Although enjoying a fine form at Barcelona, the arrival of Robert Lewandowski and registration issues might contribute to Aubameyang’s departure from Spain. The deal under discussion is estimated between £15m and £25m.

    Frenkie De Jong

Since joining the Spanish giants in July 2019, Frenkie De Jong has become integral to Barcelona’s midfield.

Following the incessant injuries and fitness struggles of Ngolo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, Chelsea has explored the possibility of signing Frenkie De Jong. This is in a bid to strengthen the midfield depth of the London side.

Frenkie De Jong’s midfield proficiency and ability to beat the high press, create goal-scoring chances, and score goals give him an edge on Chelsea’s transfer list. His ability to also play different positions contributes to Chelsea’s interest in the Dutch international.

Chelsea has agreed to meet Manchester United’s offer of a £72m fee to sign De Jong. However, he is owed £17m in deferred wages by Barcelona and will not agree to leave until he gets his pay. Barcelona wants him to stay, but only if he decides to take a significant pay cut.

    Wilfried Zaha

Thomas Tuchel has faced numerous issues with his attackers at Chelsea since joining Chelsea in 2021. However, with the transfer window deadline ticking, signing a new attacker is imminent.

Wilfried Zaha has 281 premier league appearances and has recorded 91 goal contributions in nine years for Palace. His dribbling, pace, strength, creativity, and goal-scoring abilities have made him one of the most reliable wingers in the premier league. He has also proven to be a big game player for Crystal palace, scoring twice for Crystal Palace against Aston Villa in their last game.

Following the track record of Chelsea’s recent signing, Chelsea has focused on signing players that are premier league proven: Marc Cucurella and Raheem Sterling. However, Wilfried Zaha, who has been on the London outfit’s radar for a while, might become Chelsea’s latest addition.

Although Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira stated that the Ivorian attacker is not up for sale, they will be unable to resist when the correct bid comes in.

  • Rashford apologises for swearing after scoring against Liverpool

Rashford apologises for swearing after scoring against Liverpool

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has apologised for swearing after scoring in victory over Liverpool on Monday night.

The 24-year-old looked to be at his best once again against Jurgen Klopp’s side, netting what would turn out to be the winner for United in the 53rd minute.

According to Tribalfootball, a clip showing off an alternative angle of Rashford’s finish and celebration was then released by the club on Wednesday, which showed the pumped-up England star let loose after finishing smartly past Alisson.

While his bad language can’t be heard in the clip posted by the Red Devils, a sheepish Rashford took to Twitter shortly after to tell fans to ‘excuse’ his language having known he dropped expletives during the jubilant celebrations before laughing it off.

Rashford tweeted, “Please excuse my language it was just in the heat of the moment” following by a laughing emoji.

  • Liverpool not thinking about the title race – Robertson

Liverpool not thinking about the title race – Robertson

Liverpool fullback Andrew Robertson admits talking about the title race is meaningless at the moment.

The Reds have only managed two points from their first three Premier League games of the season.

Two draws and a Monday night loss to Manchester United have put them on the back foot in the title race, with Man City grabbing seven points from their three games.

Post-game, Robertson told the club’s website: “It’s early on in the season but even if we were at the top of the league we wouldn’t be thinking about the title race.

“We’ve always been consistent with that every season, you don’t really think about it until you get closer to see where everyone’s at. The start of the season is always a bit messy where you just try to find your feet.

“This season we haven’t done it and yeah, we’re not thinking about that. We need to get our first win on the board, we need to get our first win, we need to try to get ahead first in the game and try to put in a good performance, get our first clean sheet and get back to our basics. And if we can do that, that’s the only way we will win games, it’s as simple as that.

“We’ve always been a hard-working team, we’ve always been honest, we’ve always been passionate. We need to keep doing that but we also need to be clinical in both boxes and if we do that I believe the results will come. But they need to come quickly.”

I haven’t joined Man Utd for money – Casemiro

Departing Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro says he hasn’t joined Manchester United for money.

At his farewell ceremony today at the Santiago Bernabeu, Casemiro took questions from the media.

He said, “It wasn’t that fast. After the Champions League final there were already talks that my cycle was ending. It was a very important decision for me. It was very difficult for me to talk to the president, but honesty is one of my values and I always have to be honest with him.

“I think the feeling that the cycle was over.”

Asked if it was a question of money, Casemiro continued: “People who think that know I’m not like that. If it was for money I would have left four or five years ago. The club has always behaved well. It is my decision, to close a cycle. He who thinks like this does not know me.”

On moving to United, he said: “I want to transmit my values. What Real Madrid taught me here I want to teach here. The mentality of winning titles, games, training… I want to learn from the League. I’m really excited. I am in the best moment. I’m still enjoying it.”

And on a reunion with former Real teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Casemiro added: “I have not spoken with him, but I am very excited to play with him. El Bicho will continue to be a football legend. I hope he stays there. He is one of the best of all time. I’m excited to play with him and with more teammates.”

EPL: Leeds United unleash embarrassing defeat on Chelsea

Leeds United unleashed an embarrassing defeat on Chelsea in a thrilling English Premier League encounter at Elland Road on Sunday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that at the 69th minute of play, Leeds were already 3 goals up as Chelsea struggled to get themselves into the game.

Brenden Aaronson first pulled the trigger in the 33rd minute of the game before Rodrigo added another in the 37th minute and Jack Harrison capped it off in the 69th minute.

Sterling had thought he scored his first goal for Chelsea in the 15th minute of play, but was ruled out for offside.

However, Aaronson did not miss the mark thereafter. Awful Mendy handed Aaronson his first Leeds goal on a plate.

The keeper took too long on the ball in the six-yard box and he then tried to take Aaronson, who nicked it off his toes and then had a tap-in to do from close range.

Leeds quickly doubled their lead after Harrison whipped a superb free-kick delivery into the penalty area from the left and Rodrigo rose up high above James and powered his header into the right corner of the net, bringing the first half of the game to a close.

As the second half began, Harrison made it 3-0. James picked out Rodrigo in the box with a cross from the left, but could not control it and instead the ball fell perfectly to Harrison, who poked the ball into the back of the net from close range.

TNG reports Leeds continued their unbeaten start to the season with the win, having beaten Wolves 2-1 on the opening day of the season, before drawing 2-2 against Southampton, despite holding a 2-0 lead as they headed into the final 20 minutes.

Chelsea had experienced a similar start to the season before this embarrassing defeat from Leeds. Chelsea had beaten Everton 1-0, before conceding a late equaliser against Tottenham to draw 2-2 at Stamford Bridge.

The Tottenham game saw a fracas between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte on the sidelines. The fracas ended with Tuchel being handed a one-match touchline ban.

  • Arsenal maintain perfect start to go top of EPL

Arsenal maintain perfect start to go top of EPL

Arsenal swept aside Bournemouth to continue their perfect start and rise to the top of the Premier League table.

Captain Martin Odegaard put the Gunners in control inside the opening 10 minutes with a well-taken double.

After the break, William Saliba curled home a beautiful third before Gabriel Jesus saw his clever finish ruled out by VAR for offside.

It is the first time Arsenal have won their opening three fixtures since the 2004-05 season.

Bournemouth had won their first home game back in the Premier League against Aston Villa and there was a rousing feel to this Saturday teatime kick-off at the division’s smallest ground.

It took a mere five minutes for that feeling to be punctured as Odegaard tapped in after Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers had saved Gabriel Martinelli’s low strike.

The Norway midfielder struck again shortly after when he nabbed the ball off Jesus’ toes to sweep a clinical left-footed finish past the helpless Cherries keeper.

Arsenal bided their time before sealing the win but did it in style when the impressive Saliba elegantly found the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Jesus was then denied a deserved goal by a tight VAR review that ruled him just offside from Odegaard’s clever through ball.

It is very early days – and there are far harder tests to come – but the Gunners have laid down a marker with their superb start to the season.

  • Richarlison has made Tottenham nasty – Conte

Richarlison has made Tottenham nasty – Conte

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte says Richarlison has transformed the team’s approach.

His ability to get under opponents’ skin was seen as an attractive quality to Conte, who wanted to make his team more streetwise this season.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s hosting of Wolves, Conte said: “For sure Richy is a player that made us focused, nasty. He’s a player I like.

“He’s always into the training session with his mind. For us I think this is a good sign.

“We are working also on the tactical aspect because the season will be long and there are many games that we have to play also with four strikers.

“In the end at Chelsea, we played with Lucas Moura as wing-back, (Ivan) Perisic – we are talking about in the past a striker -, Richarlison, Kulusevski, Sonny (and Kane).

“But to do this, it’s important to have organisation in the tactical aspect.”

  • EPL: Brentford shock Man Utd 0-4 at halftime

EPL: Brentford shock Man Utd 0-4 at halftime

Manchester United are 4-0 down at halftime of their Premier League clash at Brentford.

Brentford are just the third side to score four goals against Manchester United in the first half of a Premier League game after Tottenham in October 2020 and Liverpool in October 2021.

Josh Dasilva opened the scoring when his shot slipped through United goalkeeper David de Gea on nine minutes. Mathias Jensen made it two from another De Gea error ten minutes later. Ben Mee and Bryan Mbuemo also struck to send the hosts 4-0 up at halftime.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville remarked: “I thought Manchester United would do better but they have been mauled, bullied, messed about with like you wouldn’t believe and there is nowhere to hide. Brentford are absolutely rampant and brilliant.”

  • Nobody will break my record soon in EPL – Werner

Nobody will break my record soon in EPL – Werner

Former Chelsea striker, Timo Werner, has revealed that nobody will break his record in the Premier League anytime soon.

Werner returned to Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig earlier this week after two years spell at the London club.

He revealed that a combination of missed chances and plenty of VAR decisions against him severely impacted his confidence at Chelsea.

“I had a few misses in my first year at Chelsea. Then I think I set a new record for VAR decisions against me – nobody will break that record anytime soon! All of that led to me losing confidence in my second year,” Werner was quoted by Sportskeeda as saying.

In 89 games, Werner scored only 23 times, including just 10 in the Premier League, as he struggled to replicate his prolific Leipzig form at Chelsea.

  • How Man Utd has reacted to Brighton loss – Ten Hag

How Man Utd has reacted to Brighton loss – Ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says his team has been working this week on the mistakes made in defeat to Brighton.

United face Brentford in London tomorrow.

Ten Hag said: “After every game, I analyse what went wrong and where we can improve, where we have to improve, and how we have to train.

“We tell and show the players this too, to give them the solutions.

“We learnt a lot [from the first game] but it’s normal when you start a season, every season in that part is the same.

“You have a new start, you make mistakes. Football is a game of mistakes, so we know we have to improve in many factors.

“I know there is always pressure, I have the experience, how it is, I know we have to win every game, I know the fans, I know everyone expects Manchester United to win every game, we have to deal with that and all I can do is prepare the team as well as I can this weekend.”

On Brentford, he added: “Every game is hard. Really good (team), same as last week, Brighton, they have a team and coach long together and a good structure…”
