Why I had to leave Man City – Sterling

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has revealed why left Premier League defending champions Manchester City.

He said, “As a person, you strive to achieve. I felt my playing-time at City was being limited for different reasons and I couldn’t afford to waste time. When I look back I didn’t want to see a decline and I want to keep that level.

“Since the age of 17, I have been a regular starter. But to get to a peak time in my career to and be playing as regular was something I didn’t want to accept. I tried to fight and change the scenario but it didn’t come.

“At first, I had a few options but this was the one that was tailor-made for my personal goals. It made a lot of sense for my family and with the direction of the club. They have been in four or five finals in the last few years and it made a lot of sense.

“I have a lot of memories and top moments at City but in the year and a bit that I was in and out of the team it made me value a lot of things. It was difficult and my kids went to school there but it’s one of those things in life where you have to make the right decision for yourself and your family.”

Rabiot personal demands stall Man Utd move

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot’s personal demands are stalling his move to Premier League side Manchester United.

The two clubs have agreed a fee for the France international.

But Gazzetta.it says the move is being delayed due to his huge wage demands.

The midfielder – and his agent mother Veronique – are asking for a whopping £8.5m a year contract to get the deal done.

What appeared to be a straightforward deal now appears to have a spanner in the works.

The 27-year-old’s mother is believed to be a tough negotiator and is also reported to be making demands about Champions League football guarantees.

Rabiot was pictured at Juventus training on Wednesday as the saga of his transfer deal continues.

Liverpool sign new defender, Oludare Olufunwa

Liverpool have signed defender Oludare Olufunwa on a free to bolster their U21s squad following a successful trial.

The 21-year-old has signed for the Merseyside club after being released by Southampton at the end of last season.

Olufunwa featured twice for the Southampton first team last season – representing the South Coast side in the EFL Trophy.

Olufunwa played for the club regularly in Premier League 2 during the first half of the 2021-2022 campaign.

According to DailyMail, the center-back trained closely with Southampton’s first XI during their pre-season training camp ahead of the 2019-2020 campaign.

He will now provide extra competition for the young Reds who are looking to secure a place in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Olufunwa will also look to prove his credentials while Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio are out on loan at Blackpool and Austria Vienna respectively.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s first XI kicked off their 2022-2023 Premier League season with a draw against Fulham.

The Premier League giants will have been disappointed with the result considering Fulham were only just promoted to the English top-flight.

Premier League: Haaland scores twice as Man City beat West Ham

Erling Haaland has scored twice on his Premier League debut for Manchester City in a routine 2-0 win away to West Ham United.
After a decent start from the Hammers, the reigning Premier League champions dominated and hardly put a foot wrong with their passing in the first half.
A key moment was goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who had started the game well, being forced off with an injury around the half-hour mark to be replaced by Alphonse Areola.
And it was Areola who conceded a penalty on 36 minutes after clumsily bringing down Haaland. The Norwegian picked himself up to dispatch the spot-kick coolly into the bottom corner to open his account for City.
David Moyes, whose starting XI had contained none of his summer signings, did bring on new Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca around the hour mark with his side looking to punish some uncharacteristically sloppy passing from the visitors.
And the Hammers did improve but Haaland killed the game off with a well-taken low finish after running onto Kevin De Bruyne’s through-ball to make it a debut to remember.

EPL: Brentford fight back to draw at Leicester

Brentford produced a terrific fightback from 2-0 behind to secure a point against Leicester in a thrilling match at the King Power Stadium.

A header by Belgium defender Timothy Castagne opened the scoring for the Foxes, the only Premier League club not to have signed a player in the summer transfer window so far.

Leicester were the dominant side in the first half with Youri Tielemans hitting the post before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall doubled the lead 25 seconds into the second half.

Brentford hit back when Ivan Toney scored from close range after a move that started when Leicester lost possession from a throw-in.

Toney wasted a great chance to equalise when he headed wide after Leicester’s Wesley Fofana nodded against the post at the other end.

But Brentford were not done as substitute Josh Dasilva struck an 86th-minute equaliser after cutting inside on to his left foot, starting the Bees’ second successive season in the top flight with a point.

  • EPL: Man U lose to Brighton at Old Trafford in season opener

EPL: Man U lose to Brighton at Old Trafford in season opener

Manchester United have lost their first English Premier League (EPL) game of the season to Brighton and Hove Albion.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the enthralling encounter ended 1:2 in favour of Brighton.

Pascal Gross’ two first-half goals were enough to hand the Seagulls their first win ever away at Old Trafford.

Brighton deserve the victory, having capitalised on United’s ponderousness in the opening 45 minutes.

United livened up in the second half and managed to pull a goal back, but couldn’t find a leveller.

The Old Trafford side’s goal came from an own goal by Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

Chelsea player Hudson-Odoi submits transfer request

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has submitted a transfer request to leave Stamford Bridge.

The winger started just 11 games in the Premier League last term as his campaign was scuppered by an Achilles injury.

Sky Sports says Hudson-Odoi has asked to leave the Blues in search of regular first-team football and his representatives have been given permission to negotiate a move.

The report adds that European heavyweights Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have shown an interest in taking the winger on loan, along with two Premier League clubs.

Those could be Southampton and Leicester City.

Despite earning three caps for England in the past, Hudson-Odoi has hinted at switching his allegiance to Ghana ahead of this year’s World Cup.

  • I’m disappointed in Ronaldo – Gary Neville

I’m disappointed in Ronaldo – Gary Neville

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville admits he’s “disappointed” by the behaviour of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has told the club he wants to leave Old Trafford in pursuit of trophies and Champions League football but an exit is yet to materialise and no concrete offers have been forthcoming.

Tensions heightened further last week when the forward was subbed off during a 1-1 friendly draw with Rayo Vallecano and he left the stadium before full-time – with manager Erik ten Hag calling the episode “unacceptable”.

Neville said last night: “I’m a little bit disappointed in him. Because he’s letting the manager go into those press conferences.

“He’s a good age, he’s been one of the best players in the world. Could he not do that interview?

“On Sunday we’re going to ask for him after the game, could he not come out and speak to us instead of getting other people to say it?”

  • Resilient Fulham frustrate Liverpool to 2:2 draw

Resilient Fulham frustrate Liverpool to 2:2 draw

English Premier League side Liverpool football club (FC) were held to a frustrating 2:2 draw away from home by resilient Fulham FC on Saturday.

Liverpool were forced to come from behind twice in the game in their Premier League opener of the season at Craven Cottage.

Fulham took the lead in the first half through a Aleksandar Mitrovic header. It took the introduction of Darwin Nunez to spark Liverpool into life as he equalised in the second half.

Again, Mitrovic scored to restore the home side’s lead from the penalty spot after being fouled by Virgil van Dijk.

However, Mohamed Salah kept up his incredible record on the opening day, scoring for the sixth-straight year to earn the Reds a share of the spoils.

I don’t know if Todd Boehly sleeps – Tuchel

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has hailed the work ethic of new owner Todd Boehly and his team.

Boehly has just overseen the signing of Brighton fullback Marc Cucurella today.

Tuchel said: “I would describe him as super hard-working and learning on the job.

“Going into the transfer market as new owners is one of the toughest things you can do. I have nothing but the biggest respect for them. I don’t know when they sleep, maybe they never sleep.

“But we have a very open, honest and direct line of communication and the transfers we’ve done speak for themselves.”
