Serie A: Osimhen is Premier League bound – Gianluca Di Marzio

Football transfer guru, Gianluca Di Marzio has posited that Nigerian and Napoli  striker, Victor Osimhen will join a premier League club next season.

According to him, Osimhen will join a London club, either Arsenal or Chelsea come next season.

It would be recalled that Nigerian striker recently extended his contract with Napoli until 2026, featuring a release clause estimated at 130 million euros.

PSG eyes Osimhen as a potential successor to Kylian Mbappé, whose departure from the club seems imminent.

Osimhen boasts Ligue 1 experience from his time at Lille, where he made 27 appearances and netted 13 goals in the 2019-2020 season.

However, Di Marzio suggests that Osimhen’s preference lies with Chelsea or Arsenal, rather than returning to Ligue 1.

With PSG as frontrunners due to their rapport with Napoli, Osimhen’s focus remains on a potential move to the Premier League, where he aims to showcase his talent on a new stage.

“I’m not so convinced that Osimhen goes to PSG, he has already played in France with Lille, logical, PSG is something else and would allow you to face matches like the Champions League semi-final, but his preference was and remains England,” Di Marzio said in quotes relayed by Spazio Napoli.

“Chelsea and Arsenal are two clubs that could grab Osimhen.”

Tottenham defender: What we failed to do in Chelsea defeat

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven admits they are in a tough spot in the Premier League.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea on Thursday night in a blow to their top four hopes.

On the game, the rapid defender stated they were not good enough on and off the ball.

He told Sky Sports: “Today was not a good performance from us. We can do much better.

“First half we didn’t try to play. We didn’t push forward when we come out. We tried to play in the second half but there was not that confidence today.

“We have to take a look back a this game and bounce back better at the weekend.”

On their top-four chances, van de Ven added: “It will be difficult. I don’t want to look up to the Champions League after this game, it was not a good performance from us and it is important we play a good game on Sunday.”

EPL: Jens Lehmann writes off Arsenal title hopes

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann believes his old club will NOT win this season’s Premier League title.

Lehmann admits he can’t see Manchester City dropping any points over the remainder of the season.

He told the Daily Mail: “He’s (Mikel Arteta’s) done a good job but unfortunately, you’re talking to a guy who loves Arsenal, wants them to win and not just to be up there. I was very disappointed with how they lost to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

“Afterwards, they showed a great reaction beating Chelsea and Tottenham. But to be a big club, you have to win trophies.

“They’re very different to us (Invincibles) in their approach – much more cautious and slower with the ball. Physically, they run a lot more and have more high-intensity runs but they don’t play faster than us because we were a one-touch team. They all take three, four touches at a time. And if you’re too cautious in football, you can’t win trophies. Most of the time, the bravest teams win the league. I would love them to win the title but that has cost them in certain games.

“It’s 20 years since we won the league and I hope Arsenal win but it’s not in their own hands anymore and that’s a weakness.”

  • Everton lodge appeal against two-point deduction

Everton lodge appeal against two-point deduction

Everton have formally lodged an appeal against the two-point penalty imposed on the club earlier in April for breaching Premier League financial rules.

The Toffees indicated their intention to appeal last Monday, the same day the sanction was announced. The PA news agency understands that appeal has now been lodged.

The club admitted breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) for permitted losses by £16.6 million ($207 million) for the assessment period ending with the 2022-23 season.

The independent commission which imposed the sanction disclosed in the written reasons for its decision that the Premier League had initially sought a five-point penalty.

This was reduced to two by the commission, after mitigation was taken into account, notably the fact that the club was being punished twice in the same overlapping period.

In February Everton had a 10-point penalty for an earlier PSR breach reduced to six on appeal.

Everton will now be aiming to achieve a further reduction to the two-point penalty via the latest appeal.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have both now appealed against the sanctions imposed on them, and the hope for all concerned will be that both outcomes are known heading into the final round of Premier League matches on May 19.

The commission which issued the two-point penalty will also hold a separate hearing to settle a dispute between the club, and the league around costs which Everton contend are associated to the construction of their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

This dispute is not covered by the new ‘standard directions’ for dealing with PSR cases before the end of the season in which clubs are charged, so any sanction imposed would almost certainly apply next season.

“You never know, at the moment I have enough on my plate to think about,” he told reporters ahead of a Europa League quarter final first leg with West Ham United.

“But I’m still young as a coach and for sure it’s a nice one (thought).

“I speak regularly with some colleagues who coach in the Premier League and they know that each game is really tough to prepare and to play.

“It’s a very exciting competition with so many great players, coaches, great clubs, stadiums – and West Ham is one of them. We are facing them tomorrow with great respect but with great excitement that we have a great chance to go through and keep going in a great season as well.”

EPL: Chelsea, Manchester City could be expelled from Premier League if….

Chelsea and Manchester City could be expelled from the Premier League if they are found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play, FFP.

Recall that Everton and Nottingham Forest are currently serving punishment in form of point reduction after an independent commission decided to deduct four points over their own breaches of its Profit and Sustainability rules.

Everton had thier 10 points reduction reduced to six after they filed an appeal.

Forest are accused of exceeding their PSR threshold by up to £34.5million in the pertinent period.

The points deduction has seen Nuno Espirito Santo’s men drop into 18th in the relegation zone on 21 points.

Manchester City are awaiting the outcome of 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League at the start of last year, with a trial date set by bosses but yet to be officially confirmed.

Chelsea are yet to be charged, but there have been fears that the club could soon be punished, after spending more than £1 billion since being taken over by Todd Boehly in May 2022.

The UK Sun reports that there has been a warning from three men in the commission who meted out the punishment to Forest, which could spell trouble for Man City and Chelsea.

Robert Glancy KC, Mark Hovell and Steve Holt wrote how unlimited sanctions ranged “from a warning through to expulsion from the Premier League”.

In their 52-page document, they added: “Where a PSR breach is “minor”, then it will be for other Commissions to determine if any points deduction is necessary, appropriate or proportionate.

“But if the breach is properly described as “major” then it may be the case that even a very severe sanction such as expulsion is more appropriate.”
