  • Arsenal just not good enough – Carragher

Arsenal just not good enough – Carragher

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has not been impressed by Arsenal’s forwards this season.

The Gunners are in pole position in the Premier League after beating Brentford at the weekend.

Manchester City drawing against Liverpool ensured the Gunners ended the matchday on top.

However, Carragher stated on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports: “We are only a third of the way through the season but if this is the Arsenal we are going to see this season I don’t think they can win the league.

“So many games are going to the wire and sometimes they can go against you. Those 1-0 wins could easily be 1-0 defeats. There isn’t the same pace and fluidity, creating chances and I don’t think it is anything tactical.

“I am still seeing the same things from Arsenal. I just think individually the attacking players have been average whereas they were on fire last season.

“Martinelli, Saka, Jesus and Odegaard, who was up there with Kevin De Bruyne last season. I know he (Odegaard) has had some injury problems but the stats aren’t great.”

Arsenal prepared to sell Thomas Partey

Premier League giants Arsenal are preparing to offload Thomas Partey in January.

The Gunners are eager to continue their squad revamp for manager Mikel Arteta.

One of the areas where they have invested recently is midfield, with Declan Rice coming in from West Ham.

Per ESPN, Partey is set to leave in January, given his fitness issues in recent months.

The club may then use those funds to sign another midfielder or a centre forward.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney is a key midseason target, but he is also wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea.

  • I don’t want to be Gerrard in Liverpool – Szoboszlai

I don’t want to be Gerrard in Liverpool – Szoboszlai

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has said he doesn’t want to be compared with the club legend, Steven Gerrard but only wants to be himself.

Szoboszlai admits his first days with Liverpool were surreal.

The midfielder has been outstanding for the Reds since his summer arrival from RB Leipzig.

“It’s crazy,” Szoboszlai told Football Focus. “When I came, [in] the first days I was like, ‘Am I on PlayStation or something?!’

“It was great to know them and how they are, not only from the television. To play with them is even better.”

While keen to avoid comparisons with Reds legend Steven Gerrard, Szoboszali also said: “I don’t want to be him, I want to be myself.

“But of course if they put a paper in front of me now and say you’re going to have the same impact or the same career here in Liverpool, I’m going to sign it directly!”

  • Relegation threat: Chelsea facing heavy points deduction

Relegation threat: Chelsea facing heavy points deduction

Legal experts say Chelsea are in real danger of a heavy points deduction after the Everton ruling on Friday.

Everton have been hit with a 10-point deduction after being found to have breached ‘profit and sustainability’ rules by the Premier League. Everton intend to appeal the decision.

Lawyer Stefan Borson, who advised Manchester City on their Financial Fair Play case, posted to social media: “Without seeing the judgement/award -10 points for Everton feels harsh for a straightforward FFP [Financial Fair Play] breach to me.

“But reinforces that sanctions against City [if proven] and now Chelsea [if charged and admitted on the off-books payments] will be potentially relegation inducing.

“One thing is for sure, given the scale of this sporting sanction, Chelsea’s calculus [in my opinion] that they could breach PL P&S [Profit and Sustainability] and just take a fine as a cost of doing business, must be in urgent and immediate reconsideration.

“The January window may be interesting. Even in the best case, they can no longer rely on being able to convince an Independent Commission to accept their Covid and Sanctions allowances as exceptional adjustments [to the extent that was the plan.”

  • Man Utd need to stick with Ten Hag – Beckham

Man Utd need to stick with Ten Hag – Beckham

Manchester United legend David Beckham is backing Erik ten Hag to stay.

Beckham says United need managerial stability.

He told Sportstar: “I am a true Manchester United fan who only wants the good for our club and only wants us to get back to top level again.

“But that has to start at the top. It has to start with ownership.

“We have talked about the change that should happen. I have been very vocal about Manchester United needing a change. When Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down in 2013, there was always going to be a dip. You can’t stay at the top level.

“But we stayed put for the amount of years because we had the stability of having someone like Sir Alex Ferguson, our manager.

“Now we have had quite a few managers over the last 10 years and that is unfortunate because it brings the stability that we had with Sir Alex Ferguson, you don’t have that anymore. It shows in the way we play.”

  • I should’ve joined Man City sooner – Kovacic

I should’ve joined Man City sooner – Kovacic

Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic admits he wishes he had joined Manchester City sooner.

The pass master swapped Chelsea and London for City and Manchester, choosing to work under Pep Guardiola.

Kovacic believes that he could have won even more trophies if he had signed for Guardiola’s team earlier in his career.

“It’s amazing and tough because I’m learning a lot of new things and I would have loved to come at an earlier age to learn,” said Kovacic, while on international duty.

“But it’s never too late to learn. I think like that. So I’m happy I can learn from him and what he tells you.

“I would’ve loved someone to have told me a few years ago. But yeah, now I can still learn and you can really tell he is fantastic. I’ve really enjoyed it from the first moment. It was tough the first few days to understand what he wants – ‘don’t move there, go there’.

“So I like to run a lot on the pitch sometimes – ‘go there, go there’. But he told me, ‘Be more calm, don’t run too much’. So it was like a little bit of surprise for me as well and it’s nice. The club you can tell from the first day is amazing. The people are great, and the city is also nice.”

  • Chelsea are really good, no doubt – Guardiola

Chelsea are really good, no doubt – Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admits his side struggled at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

The Premier League champions were unable to win against the Blues on Sunday.

Despite leading 4-3, a late Cole Palmer penalty earned a point for Chelsea, with Guardiola telling reporters:

“They are a really good team so there’s no doubt,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“Liverpool couldn’t win. They were much, much better than Arsenal and in the end, Arsenal drew. So you know, it’s Chelsea, they won’t go away.”

He added: “I always have to think about what we can do to get better. It’s not going to happen that we come here and win 7-0. They are trying to rebuild. We have no complaints.”

  • EPL: Arsenal move second after Burnley win

EPL: Arsenal move second after Burnley win

Arsenal moved level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City courtesy of a hard-fought 3-1 victory over beleaguered Burnley.

The Gunners had struggled to break down a disciplined Clarets side for much of the first half but broke the visitors’ resistance on the stroke of half-time when Leandro Trossard bravely nodded in at the far post for Arsenal’s 1,000th goal at Emirates Stadium.

Oleksandr Zinchenko completed the scoring with an acrobatic finish into the top corner after Dara O’Shea had inadvertently steered another Trossard corner onto the crossbar.

Arsenal finished the game with 10 men after second-half substitute Fabio Vieira was shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Brownhill, but the Gunners held on comfortably.

Burnley stay in the relegation zone while Arsenal trail league leaders City on goal difference – although Pep Guardiola’s team can restore their three-point lead with victory at Chelsea on Sunday.

  • Wolves score twice in stoppage time to beat Tottenham

Wolves score twice in stoppage time to beat Tottenham

Wolves scored twice in stoppage time as they came from behind to beat Tottenham in the Premier League.

Mario Lemina netted the winner in the seventh minute of additional time at Molineux, sliding the ball into the far side of the net after an expertly timed pass by Pablo Sarabia.

Sarabia had levelled six minutes earlier with a sublime finish, volleying home after flicking the ball to himself in the air.

Spurs’ 10-game unbeaten start to the season was cut short by their chaotic 4-1 defeat by Chelsea on Monday, but they issued an immediate response on Saturday as Brennan Johnson tapped home after latching on to a Pedro Porro pass.

Tottenham’s impression was momentary, however, and Wolves quickly grew into the game with energetic pressing in the final third, albeit lacking any real cutting edge in front of goal.

Wolves failed to convert numerous chances, with Hwang Hee-chan and Sasa Kalajdzic missing the target from close range, but remained persistent in their attacking intent.

Tottenham failed to come away unscathed after Wolves’ late heroics as they succumbed to back-to-back defeats, missing out on a chance to go to the top of the table.

  • Thomas Partey informs Arsenal he wants to leave

Thomas Partey informs Arsenal he wants to leave

Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey is ready to leave Arsenal in January.

TMW says Partey has informed Gunners management he wants to depart over the New Year.

Juventus have been alerted and are in touch with Partey’s minders.

However, the midfielder wants to wait for other suitors to come forward as he would favour remaining in England.

Interest from Saudi Arabia and Al-Ahli has also arrived after a failed attempt last summer.
